Chaturashiti Sama Dasha, Navamsa Narayana Dasha & Multi-Dasha Convergence for Divorce

Events:

• No children from the first marriage; one abortion during it

Rasi (Libra lagna, 29°13'): Sun exalted in Aries in the 7th; Venus, Mars and Saturn in Taurus in the 8th; Moon and Ketu in Cancer in the 10th; Jupiter in Sagittarius in the 3rd; Mercury in Pisces in the 6th; Rahu in Capricorn in the 4th. UL, A7 and A6 are together in Gemini.

Navamsa (Gemini lagna): Sun in lagna; Venus and debilitated Mars in Cancer in the 2nd; Jupiter in Leo in the 3rd; Moon and Ketu in Virgo in the 4th, which holds UL; Mercury in Libra in the 5th; Rahu in Pisces in the 10th; Saturn debilitated in Aries in the 11th.

Chart Rectification — Libra vs. Scorpio Lagna

Lagna at 29°13'15" Libra — 47 minutes of arc from the border.

• Lagna enters Scorpio 3 minutes 24 seconds later. A 4-minute error in a noted birth time is ordinary.
• Going backward, the navamsa changes after about 11 minutes.
• So the choice is between two charts: Libra rasi + Gemini navamsa, or Scorpio rasi + Cancer navamsa. (The second navamsa of Scorpio needs a 17-minute error and is set aside.)

Looks do not settle it:

• Libra lagna people are typically tall; Scorpio suits a short person better. But the classical body rules by lagna sign are not reliable, and there are short Libra people.
• Other such guidelines from the classics: Aries lagna — big head; Virgo — rather short, a little stout; Leo — short and stout.
• The planets influencing lagna (the class notes add Arudha Lagna) explain the body better than the sign: Saturn gives a thin frame, Mars a well-built body, Venus big eyes.
• Scorpio lagna people are secretive — part of them stays hidden even from the spouse. Libra lagna people are balanced, diplomatic, good at keeping relationships.
• Rasi placements do not settle it either. With Libra, the 7th lord Mars is in the 8th; with Scorpio, the 6th lord would be in the 7th. Both show trouble in marriage. "We want a clincher."

"Marriage and divorce are big events. They are more useful than looks."

The dasha that applies changes with the lagna:

• Libra lagna → Chaturashiti Sama Dasha applies (the 10th lord Moon is in the 10th).
• Scorpio lagna → lagna lord Mars falls in the 7th, and the 72-year dasha (Dwisaptati Sama) applies instead.

Scorpio lagna tested: the 72-year dasha gives Mercury–Jupiter for the marriage and Jupiter–Jupiter for the divorce. Mercury is then the 8th and 11th lord in the 5th in rasi, and the 3rd and 12th lord in the 4th in the Cancer navamsa. The antardasha lord Jupiter has no link with the 7th house or lagna there. No strong link to marriage. Rejected.

Libra lagna tested: Chaturashiti gives Moon–Jupiter for the marriage and Mars–Mars for the divorce (Part 4). "This makes 100 times more sense."

Conclusion: Libra lagna, Gemini navamsa. Lagna is in the 3rd pada of Vishakha.

How far the time is now fixed: not more than 3 min 24 s later, not more than about 11 min earlier — a 14-minute window. Navamsa and Dasamsa are confirmed, which is enough for marriage and career. It is not enough for finer divisions.

Chaturashiti Sama Dasha (84-Year Special Dasha)

An 84-year nakshatra dasha with equal periods. It applies to this chart only with Libra lagna. The main chart for marriage is the Navamsa.

Marriage — Moon dasha, Jupiter antardasha (May 1997)

Moon (mahadasha lord) in Navamsa:

• Has rasi drishti on the 7th house Sagittarius (from Virgo)
• Occupies UL
• Is with Ketu. Ketu and Venus are the karakas of marriage, so Ketu here is not a blemish.
• Is the dispositor of Venus, the other karaka
• Has argala on the 7th lord Jupiter (2nd from him)

Moon in Rasi:

• UL is in Gemini. Moon is the 2nd lord from UL, in the 2nd from UL. The 2nd lord from UL is the one who brings the marriage and sustains it.

Jupiter (antardasha lord):

• 7th lord of Navamsa, in the 3rd house. He is in marana karaka sthana, but he is a kama trikona lord in another kama trikona, and giving marriage is his job.
• In Rasi he aspects the 7th house by graha drishti (5th aspect) and UL by both graha and rasi drishti.
• The pratyantardasha was also Jupiter's.

The strongest candidate need not be the mahadasha lord. Guessing blind, one would pick Jupiter, the 7th lord, over Moon.

"When you are picking the mahadasha, don't expect the best candidate to show up, because his dasha may be coming at the age of 60 years, and people usually don't wait that long to get married."

At mahadasha level a reasonably good candidate is enough. The most important planet shows up at the antardasha level.

Divorce — Mars dasha, Mars antardasha (from 13 January 2004)

Mars in Rasi: 7th lord in the 8th house, with Venus.

• 7th lord in the 8th shows anxiety on account of relationships — marriage, or a colleague at work.
• He is in the 2nd from the 7th house. That alone does not make him a strong maraka for the marriage (rule below).
• Venus, karaka of marriage and harmony, is with Mars, karaka of fight and break. By ownership Mars holds the 7th, but as a karaka he is against Venus. Venus is in his own house there, so the damage in rasi is less.

Mars in Navamsa — the clincher:

• Again with Venus, in Cancer. Venus has nothing special in Cancer; Mars is debilitated there.
• Mars is the 6th lord of the Navamsa.
• He is the lord of A8 and occupies A6 and A11. A6 in Navamsa shows tangible quarrel, fight, litigation, a court case — in matters of marriage and dharma.
• When Mars–Mars comes: big fights, or court and divorce.

Debilitated Mars:

"It is like a bull that has been tied down. Until his time comes he will be unhappy — why did they have to keep me like this? And then when the time comes, he will get a rage and just hit you."

A debilitated Mars is not weak. He is strong in a negative way.

• Mars–Mars began in January 2004. The divorce came in June 2005, but the serious fights must have started in early 2004.

Rule — the lord of a house is a weak maraka for it

• If the lord of a sign sits in the 2nd or 7th from it, he is not a strong maraka for that sign.
• The lagna lord gives vitality. His agenda is to protect. In the 2nd or the 7th he is still unlikely to kill.
• The 8th lord in the 7th or the 3rd lord in the 2nd is a stronger case.

"Lagna lord, wherever he is, he is unlikely to kill. Similarly, 7th lord, wherever he is, he is unlikely to kill the relationship. He will kill only if there are other combinations."

So Mars as 7th lord in the 2nd from the 7th gives trouble and anxiety in marriage. The break comes from what he is in Navamsa.

Vimshottari Dasha Confirmation

The student's confusion was with Vimshottari. Analysed honestly, it works, but less clearly.

• When a conditional dasha such as Chaturashiti or Dwisaptati applies to a chart, it usually explains an event better than Vimshottari. Vimshottari may or may not show the event strongly.

Marriage: Mercury dasha, Jupiter antardasha

• Jupiter, the 7th lord of Navamsa, shows up again as antardasha lord.
• Mercury in Navamsa: lagna lord in the 5th house, and lord of UL (Virgo). Not a bad planet.
• Mercury in Rasi: 9th lord, but in the 6th house. He owns the sign holding UL, A7 and A6 together — relationship, marriage, and also fights and misunderstanding. Not a pleasant combination, but he can give marriage.
• Mercury is not as good a candidate as Moon, but a reasonable one. Mercury–Jupiter giving marriage makes decent sense.

Divorce: Ketu dasha, Rahu antardasha

• Ketu is co-lord of Scorpio — the other 6th lord of Navamsa along with Mars, even though he is a karaka of marriage.
• Rahu is the 9th lord in the 10th in Navamsa. Rahu giving divorce is not obvious.
• What links Rahu: he is in the 7th from UL in Navamsa (6th lord from UL in the 7th from it). In Rasi he is in the 8th from UL, and counted from UL he is the 9th lord of protection in the 8th — protection of the marriage withdrawn.
• Before the event one could not have picked Ketu–Rahu. Asked blind when in the last five years the divorce came, the teacher would have guessed the Mars–Mars period.

"Here Vimshottari is working, but not as crystal clearly as Chaturashiti Sama Dasha."

The trigger — February to July 2004:

• Vimshottari: Ketu dasha, Mars antardasha, 14 February 2004 – 13 July 2004.
• Chaturashiti: Mars dasha, Mars antardasha, from 13 January 2004.
• Two dashas, two levels each — four lords, all of them owners of the 6th house of Navamsa (Mars and Ketu).
• Those months must have triggered the serious misunderstandings and fights, even if there were fights earlier.

What an astrologer can do:

• Had she come before this period, a remedy to Subrahmanya for Mars could have been given. It may have saved the marriage.
• A 6th lord's period can give yelling and pushing, or it can give court and divorce. It is hard to say which. Knowing the period will pass in two years, people can hold on.
• The teacher's example: a woman asked whether to file for divorce. He told her bluntly that her unhappiness was her own karma, that it would continue for about 15 years with or without the divorce, and that things would ease after two years. She decided to go through with the marriage and took up the prayers.

Narayana Dasha (Navamsa ND) Analysis

The Narayana Dasha of the Navamsa is used, not that of the Rasi chart.

Marriage — Sagittarius dasha (April 1991 – April 1999, 8 years)

• Sagittarius is the 7th house of the Navamsa.
• The dasha splits into thirds:
  • First third (1991–93): results of the lord Jupiter, who is in Leo, a sirshodaya (head-rising) sign
  • Middle third: results of the planets aspecting Sagittarius — Rahu, Ketu, Moon, Sun
  • Last third (August 1996 – April 1999): results of Sagittarius itself
• She married in May 1997, when the 7th house was giving its own results. "Makes perfect sense."
• Jupiter's third could also have given marriage, but she was too young then.

Divorce — Capricorn dasha

• Capricorn is the 8th house of the Navamsa, a maraka sthana. The 8th in Navamsa can give a break in dharmic life.
• Capricorn is a prishtodaya rasi (prishtodaya signs: 1, 2, 4, 9, 10 — Aries, Taurus, Cancer, Sagittarius, Capricorn). It gives its own results in the last third: August 2004 – April 2007. Its lord Saturn is in Aries, also prishtodaya.
• The divorce (June 2005) fell in that third.

The antardasha within it:

• The divorce came in Sagittarius antardasha. Taking Capricorn as lagna, Sagittarius is the 12th house and its lord Jupiter is in the 8th from Capricorn.
• Bhoga: Sagittarius is the 12th from Capricorn; the 12th from Sagittarius is Scorpio. Scorpio is the 6th house from the natal Navamsa lagna.
• "There is a very strong case for divorce happening in Capricorn, especially in that one-third."
