Guessing the career from the Rasi chart alone:

• The 10H is Gemini, Mercury's sign — an intellectual sign
• Saturn and Ketu are in it — hard work, discipline
• The guess: a reasonably intelligent person doing very hard, disciplined work; a lot of physical labour or struggle

"We would have guessed it's the chart of a laborer."

Why Rasi alone is not enough:

"We have so many counter-examples, like twins who are born 3 or 4 minutes apart who have totally different lives, having the same Rasi chart. So scientifically speaking, Rasi chart is not sufficient to correctly guess everything about a person."

D-10 Chart (Dasamsa)

Lagna: Leo

• 1H (Leo): Ketu
• 2H (Virgo): Saturn
• 5H (Sagittarius): Venus, Jupiter
• 7H (Aquarius): Sun, Rahu
• 10H (Taurus): Mars
• 11H (Gemini): Moon
• 12H (Cancer): Mercury

The 10th house is the crucial house of this chart, because D-10 is the chart of career and the 10th is the house of career. (In D-24, the chart of learning, the 4th house would be the key quadrant, because the 4th shows learning.)

Step 1 — Lord or occupant? Mars occupies the 10H. Venus owns it (Taurus). Sometimes the lord of a house dominates and gives its results; sometimes the occupant does.

Step 2 — Where is the 10th lord? Venus is in the 5th house, a trikona.

• 1, 4, 7, 10 are the quadrants — Vishnu Sthanas. Vishnu shows effort.
• 1, 5, 9 are the trikonas — Lakshmi Sthanas. Lakshmi shows blessings, earned by the pūrva puṇya of past lives.

Step 3 — Who is in the 10th? Mars, the 9th lord (Aries is the 9th from Leo).

Conclusion — blessed in career: One trikona lord (9L Mars) is in the 10th, and the 10th lord is in the other trikona (5H). The 10th house is linked to both houses of blessing.

• A student objected that nobody is in the 9th house. It does not matter: the sign and its lord count whether or not a planet sits there.
• This says she is blessed in her activities in society. Whether she is blessed physically is a separate question, read from the Rasi chart.

What kind of career? Mars is alone. Venus is with Jupiter. So Venus dominates, and the career is given by Taurus and Venus — a Venusian career: entertainment, beauty, enjoyment.

Raj Yoga — a quadrant lord (Vishnu) joining a trikona lord (Lakshmi):

Venus (10L) and Jupiter (5L) are together in the 5H → Raj Yoga.

• It involves the 10th lord — the key quadrant of this chart
• Jupiter is very strong, in his own sign Sagittarius
• It does not fall in a dusthana. It falls in a trikona, where Lakshmi's blessings are
• The 5th house in D-10 is following. In career, your following is in proportion to your abilities. In a politician's chart the 5th shows whether he has a mass following. It shows subordinates, those who follow you and take orders from you.

"Looking at this chart, it becomes very clear that this is a very successful person with a lot of following. And then she's an entertainer. She's in a Venusian business."

Does the yoga need its daśā? A student asked. PVNR: a Raj Yoga this strong may operate throughout life. But it is triggered in a particular daśā, when a particular transit comes — many things are needed to trigger any good or bad result. When the daśās are taught, this chart will be taken up again to time when she became Miss World and entered films.

Back to the Rasi Chart — What Saturn and Ketu Mean

The Rasi chart is not wrong. It shows what she does physically.

• Saturn — discipline and hard work. She probably shoots till 9 or 10 at night. When the director and producer call her to the sets, she has to be there at that time. Before she steps out she has to spend half an hour getting ready. For all her following, she labours.
• Ketu — detachment. At the physical level she has to be detached from her own sukha. Whatever people expect of her, she has to do.
• Venus and Moon, the two planets of entertainment, aspect the 10th house from the 4th — by graha dṛṣṭi (7th aspect, Sagittarius to Gemini) and by rāśi dṛṣṭi (both are dual signs). What she does physically is not only hard work; she emotes and acts, so some such influence has to show even at the physical level.

"Had you been guessing the career based on this chart, it's very difficult to come up with the right career. But if you use this chart, it's extremely, extremely clear."

Books that use only the Rasi chart explain her as an actress by "Venus and Moon aspect the 10th". But other planets aspect it too. Such rules work, yet predicting from them alone takes a lot of guessing and very good intuition.

Saturn as 5th and 6th Lord in the 10th

A student asked: Saturn rules two houses for Virgo lagna. How do you judge him in the 10th?

• 6th lord in the 10th: service, working hard, and enemies and quarrels. She will make many enemies in her career.
• 5th lord in the 10th: popularity, support, fame.
• Which prevails? Neither. Both give their results. She may be very popular and yet have enemies.
• When? That depends on the daśās. Look at the planets that are in the 5th or the 6th, or that have argala, rāśi dṛṣṭi or graha dṛṣṭi on them. The daśā or antardaśā of such a planet may make Saturn give the results of one house more than the other.

This too is to be timed later: when she rose to fame, and when she had quarrels and made enemies in the industry.

Graha Malika Yoga

A student pointed out a Graha Malika in the Rasi chart, from Sun to Jupiter, and asked whether four houses are enough. Four is enough.

Definition: Four or more consecutive houses, with no gap, each holding at least one of the seven planets. Rahu and Ketu are not counted. It can be 4 grahas or 5 or 7, but the houses must be at least four. Translated: planetary garland.

Result: A very positive yoga that very powerful people have. It shows a transformation in life that brings great success. The results are read from the starting sign and the ending sign.

In her Rasi chart: Sun (2H) → Mercury (3H) → Venus, Moon (4H; Rahu not counted) → Jupiter (5H). Graha Malika from the 2nd house to the 5th.

• This is the physical chart, so the 2nd house here is not wealth. It is a resource of the body — the face. (1st head, 2nd face, 3rd neck.)
• The 5th house is popularity.
• This is one interpretation; yogas are taught later.

In her D-10: A student proposed one starting from Mars: Mars (10H), Moon (11H), Mercury (12H), Ketu (1H), Saturn (2H). It fails. A garland that needs Rahu or Ketu to complete it is not a Graha Malika. Remove Ketu — the lagna itself does not count either — and the 1st house is empty, so the chain breaks. No Graha Malika Yoga in D-10.

6th and 7th Houses in D-10 — Service or Business

A student noted that the chart does not show service. He was applying a standard thumb rule of the Dasamsa:

• 6th house = service. It is the house of working hard.
• 7th house = business. It belongs to the Kama Trikona, the houses of desire. One with many desires is not satisfied and goes into his own business.

In her D-10 the 6th house is empty and the Sun and Rahu are in the 7th. She works hard, but she is not at anybody's mercy. She chooses her films by her own desire. So the 7th house is playing a role. It need not mean business as such — though she may well have a successful business too.

"Thumb rules work only 99%. You have to be intelligent to apply them properly."

A businessman who works very hard for his own business may still have a strong 6th house. Apply the thumb rule blindly and you will call him a man in service.
