The Question

Brought by a student in 2007. The native married on June 20, 2005. Her family had been told the groom earned a very large salary abroad; that turned out to be untrue. In about two years she has hardly lived with her husband, and her parents have brought her home. They ask whether to apply for divorce.

Why Marriage Came in Venus–Venus

She is running Venus mahādaśā. The marriage came in Venus–Venus.

Navāṁśa (Virgo lagna): Venus is the 9th lord, sits in UL, and is the kāraka of marriage. It makes sense.

Why the Marriage Is Troubled

Navāṁśa:

• 7th lord Jupiter is in the 12th house (Leo).
• UL is with A6. A6 shows separation.

Antardaśās: Sun Now, Moon Next

Sun antardaśā is running. Moon antardaśā follows.

In navāṁśa both sit with Venus in Scorpio, in UL and A6. Being in A6 they can give a divorce.

A student objected: the 6th is fighting — should it not be A8 for a break? PVNR: it can be, and the Sun is the A8 lord.

Sun

• 12th lord — the house of giving up, letting go
• A8 lord
• in A6, and in UL
• He links UL to A6, A8 and the 12th. "This period does have a chance."

Moon

• Born on Śukla Pratipat. The Moon is barely visible, "basically like a line", so PVNR takes this Moon as a malefic.
• But he is the 11th lord in navāṁśa — fulfilment of desires about marriage — and though in A6 he is also in UL and with Venus. He is the lagna lord in the rāśi chart.
• "I am not so concerned about Moon period, but Sun period is of concern."

"Before September 12th, there is a chance that they will actually go ahead and apply for divorce or even get divorced."

If they get through to September, the marriage is very unlikely to break.

The Rāśi Chart from UL

PVNR then goes to the rāśi chart, "because that is the fundamental". Lagna is Cancer; UL is in Virgo.

• Venus from UL is the 9th lord, who saves the marriage, and also the 2nd lord, who breaks it. He is a māraka for the marriage, and his daśā is running.
• Venus sits in Aquarius, the 6th from UL — his maraṇa-kāraka-sthāna — with Mars and Ketu. Mars is the 3rd and 8th lord from UL.
• Sun, Moon and Mercury are in Pisces, the 7th from UL, showing break of marriage. Mercury is the UL lord and is afflicted by the Sun and Moon.
• So: the daśā of a māraka lord, and inside it the antardaśās of two planets in the 7th from UL, one after the other.
• Of the two, the Sun also shows breakage in navāṁśa: 12th lord, A8 lord, in A6, and combusting Venus there.

"So there is a decent chance of breakage before September 12th this year."

Tithi Praveśa for the Year

"Always when you are looking at short term, look at Tithi Pravesh."

TP of 2007, rāśi chart (Gemini lagna, hora lord Mercury):

• 7th lord Jupiter is in the 6th house (Scorpio).
• UL and A6 are together. The link between marriage and the 6th is there at both levels — by house and by ārūḍha.

TP navāṁśa (Aries lagna):

• 7th lord Venus is fine, in the 3rd house.
• The 8th lord is in the 7th house (Ketu in Libra). Not conducive.
• Hora lord Mercury is in the 9th house of dharma, but he is the 6th lord there, a functional malefic, the A8 lord, and in A6. His daśā runs in the June–July time frame.
• Moon is in the 6th house and in A8 in navāṁśa, and in UL and A6 in the rāśi chart.

Timing inside the year:

• Moon daśā, around April–May, can start the process.
• June 24 to August 24 is the critical stretch.
• Jupiter's daśā can also give it, as 7th lord in the 6th.
• If they stay calm till October, things should get better. "But there is a decent chance that they will do something drastic in this period."

If September is crossed, PVNR expects some settlement — not perfect, but a satisfactory improvement on the present.

What an Astrologer May and May Not Answer

The parents' question is: should we apply for divorce and let her study and work on her own?

"As an astrologer, you should not give advice when there are moral and ethical issues."

• Telling her to go on living in a marriage that is no marriage is unfair.
• Telling her "he cheated you, dump him" is unfair to the husband. You do not know the exact circumstances.
• "We can't play God in this kind of situations. It's a personal decision."

"If they say, should I apply for divorce or not? It is not our domain. Our domain is, is it likely that there will be a divorce in this period or is it unlikely?"

The astrologer can also say whom to propitiate if they want the marriage patched up. Asked what to say if the parents want it ended quickly, PVNR answers: you know what helps each way; which one you suggest and which one you keep to yourself is your own ethical judgment.

Gem vs Prayer

A student asked: to bring the break about, do we propitiate the Sun, the planet who breaks this marriage?

No.

"If you propitiate somebody who gives bad result, he will say, okay, I like the guy, let's go easy on him. So he will not actually give a break in the marriage."

"If you wear gem of a planet who shows certain negative results, they happen, the negative results happen. Whereas if you pray to a planet who shows negative results, the negative results are controlled."

• Praying to a planet who shows a bad result controls that result.
• Wearing his gem makes the result happen.
• So if the divorce is what is wanted, the simple means is the Sun's gem — ruby — not prayer to the Sun.
• Tāmasic, tāntric practices aimed at breaking the marriage could also do it. "But let's not go there."

To Save the Marriage: Venus

• Not the Sun. Not the Moon either — he is in the 7th from UL in the rāśi chart.
• Venus. He is the 2nd lord from UL, but also the 9th lord, the kāraka of marriage, and in navāṁśa the 9th lord of protection sitting in UL.

"When the kāraka is in the ārūḍha corresponding to it, he will not cheat it."

• He is the one who gave the marriage, in his own daśā and antardaśā.
• Remedy: Śukra stotra or Śukra mantra, or Lakṣmī. A student suggested fasting and praying to Lakṣmī-Nārāyaṇa; PVNR called it a very good suggestion.

Career (Daśāṁśa)

Daśāṁśa lagna is Taurus.

• The 6th house of service: its lord Venus is exalted, but with the Sun and Rāhu and combust. Not so great.
• The 7th house is very strong: Mars in his own sign Scorpio.
• "This is the chart of somebody who will work for herself" — a businesswoman, contractor or consultant, not an employee.
• Venus daśā is good for starting a career: he is the lagna lord, exalted in the 11th house of gains.
• Venus is also the 6th lord, so it may begin with service.
• Mars antardaśā makes her independent. Mars is the 7th lord in the 7th. From Venus, Mars is in the 9th. The 9th from Mars is Cancer, which holds the 3rd house (initiative) and A7 (networking with people).
• Timing: Venus–Mars, from about May 2009; "probably in 2009–2010 itself".
• Advice: start by working for somebody, and from the first day think about her own business — build contacts.
• A student added that the place of work will be far away, the 8th lord being in the 12th. PVNR: possible, but he did not go into it.
