The question: She has lived in the US for more than 12 years and leaves for India the day after tomorrow. She is nervous. Will they settle, or be forced to come back soon? Will the children, who are in school, manage? She will have to deal with in-laws.

Rāśi and Daśā

• Sagittarius lagna. Moon in Virgo, Hasta 4th quarter.
• No conditional daśā applies: the 10th lord is not in the 10th, the lagna lord is not in the 7th, the 7th lord is not in lagna. A regular Viṁśottarī case.
• Running: Jupiter–Mars. Then Jupiter–Rahu, the last antardaśā. Saturn daśā follows in a few years (2012–2031).
• Jupiter daśā: lagna lord in the 11th (Libra). In an inimical sign and afflicted by Mandi and Gulika, but in general a good daśā.
• Mars antardaśā: Mars is the 5th lord with the 10th lord Mercury in the 9th house (Leo): a Rāja yoga in the house of fortune. Ketu is with them, but Mars is a good planet here. No big problems expected.
• Rahu antardaśā: Rahu is the 3rd lord in the 3rd (Aquarius). He is an enemy of Jupiter but in a trine from him. Quite good.

Why She Goes Now — Chaturthāṁśa (D-4)

• In D-4 the 1st and 5th houses show going back to the motherland; the 9th and 12th show abroad.
• D-4 lagna is Virgo. Jupiter is in the 5th house (Capricorn) with the 5th lord Saturn. From Jupiter, Mars is in the 5th (Taurus). So the move home in Jupiter–Mars is reasonable.
• A student offers Jupiter–Mercury. The teacher: it was a candidate too (Mercury is with Mars), but from Jupiter Mercury is also the 9th lord.
• It will not be smooth. In D-4 Mars is the 8th lord from lagna and the 11th lord from Jupiter, a malefic for him. He gives disturbances, changes, ups and downs with respect to the residence.

Marriage — Navāṁśa

The rāśi may be fine and she may still be quarrelling with her husband over the in-laws, so the navāṁśa is checked.

• D-9 lagna is Scorpio. Jupiter is the 5th lord in the 4th: fine.
• Mars is the lagna lord in lagna. He is also the 6th lord, but a lagna lord in lagna does not break the marriage or give big quarrels. From Jupiter he is the 10th lord in the 10th.
• The 6th and 8th houses are not activated, as they are in the charts with divorce and fights. This period is unlikely to disturb her marital happiness. The in-laws will probably be fine too.
• A student points to Venus in the 7th and Mars opposite. The teacher: not untrue. Venus (7th lord in the 7th, Taurus) and Mars (lagna lord in lagna, Scorpio) aspect each other by graha dṛṣṭi and are not friends. But both are strong, each in its own sign. Not perfect understanding; some tension; both are happy in their own positions.
• What would have been bad: Venus in Aries with Mars (7th lord in the 6th with the 6th lord), or Mars in Taurus with Venus (the 6th lord, a natural enemy, sitting on the 7th lord in the 7th). Worst: both in Aries, or both in Gemini. Here the 6th and 8th are not involved.

Rectification from the Children — Saptāṁśa (D-7)

She has two children, both boys. The rāśi and navāṁśa lagnas are not near a border (the navāṁśa is about a degree away), but the saptāṁśa lagna is on the border: 51–52 seconds earlier and it changes.

At 1:20 PM — Gemini lagna in D-7

• First child from Libra. Its lord Venus is exalted in Pisces with Rahu: a boy on every count.
• Second child from Sagittarius. Its lord Jupiter is debilitated in Capricorn, an even sign: a girl, even though exalted Mars is with him.
• A third child also looked possible. "It's a little dicey."
• Mercury and Saturn are the only planets in trines from this lagna. With just those two in the trines there is a chance of no children at all.

At 1:19:08 PM — Taurus lagna in D-7

• First child from Capricorn. Lord Saturn is in Libra (odd sign: boy) and exalted (boy).
• Second child from Scorpio. Lord Mars is in Capricorn: the sign shows a girl, but he is exalted (boy) and is with Jupiter (boy). Two indicators to one: a boy.
• Third child from Virgo: Ketu is there, so a break. Only two children makes sense.
• Two boys. This is taken as the correct chart. The given time was off by 52 seconds.

The indicators he reads for each child are those of the lord of the child's sign: the sign the lord sits in (odd = boy, even = girl), his dignity (exalted = boy, debilitated = girl), and the planet he is with.

The Children's Prospects (D-7)

Each child is read from the sign of its own planet: the first from Saturn in Libra, the second from Mars in Capricorn.

• Jupiter daśā, first child: Jupiter is the 6th lord, debilitated. That is fine, though health can be a little troublesome.
• Moon antardaśā (the previous year): The friend says last year was bad. The teacher: Moon is in the bādhaka sthāna (Leo, the 11th from Libra) for the first child. Moon is also in the 8th from the daśā lord Jupiter in D-7, which in general means the mother has some trouble on account of children.
• Mars antardaśā: For the first child, the 7th lord exalted: not bad. For the second, exalted Mars in lagna, with Jupiter (3rd and 12th lord) there: nothing standing out, nothing bad.
• Rahu antardaśā: In the 6th for the first child and the 3rd for the second. Good for both.
• Saturn daśā (2012–2031): For the first child, the 4th and 5th lord exalted in lagna: studies will be very good. For the second, the lagna and 2nd lord exalted in the 10th. Jupiter daśā is not that good for either; Saturn daśā is good for both.

"Children will do well in India or wherever they are in the next few years. There are no red flags standing out with respect to children."

Sāḍe-sātī and Saturn's Transit

• Natal Saturn is in the 8th from Moon, and he now transits the 12th from Moon (Leo): mental tension. Her nervousness makes sense.
• Saturn, at 21° Leo, is approaching natal Mars (24½°) and Mercury (26–27°). His transit over a planet brings changes to it. But those two form the Rāja yoga of the 5th and 10th lords, not some combination for accident. His transit over Ketu (7° Leo), which can be troublesome, is already over.
• Saturn is not a bad planet for her: 2nd and 3rd lord, a malefic, in the 5th house, with nīca-bhaṅga. His transit over the Rāja yoga may bring the Rāja yoga out rather than give a setback.

Tithi Praveśa Charts

The long term is fine, so the short term is cross-checked from the annual charts. They are cast for the birthplace; the moments below are the site's computation, the teacher does not read them out.

• 2008–09 (Sep 30, 2008, the current year): Virgo lagna with Sun, Moon and exalted Mercury. The 12th lord Sun in lagna shows a big change. The annual daśā running is Rahu's: Rahu is in the 5th house (Capricorn), the house of going back to the native country, and in the 8th house of the chaturthāṁśa, so the residence is unstable in this period.
• 2009–10 (Sep 19, 2009): Capricorn lagna. The hora lord is Jupiter, and he is in lagna with Rahu: a Guru-Chāṇḍāla yoga on lagna. Jupiter is the intelligence, under stress from Rahu, so tension, anxiety and worry are possible. But they are at opposite ends of the sign (3° and 24°), and Jupiter is retrograde. Mars is in the 6th: very good. The 9th house holds the lagna lord Saturn, the 9th lord Mercury and the 7th lord Moon; the problem there is the 8th lord Sun. Not a bad year.
• 2010–11 (Oct 8, 2010): Capricorn lagna again. The ruler of the year is Venus, the 10th lord in the 10th, with Mars close to him. The lagna lord Saturn is again in the 9th with the exalted 9th lord Mercury and the 7th lord Moon, and Saturn and Mercury are within 12 minutes of arc (14°39' and 14°27'). Jupiter is the 3rd lord in the 3rd, in his own house: no name for it, but it is like the Harṣa, Sarala and Vimala yogas. Ketu is well placed in the 6th. Only the 8th lord Sun is a problem. Even better than the year before.

"I don't see anything to be really concerned about. Her move back to India will work out nicely. That is my conclusion."

Will She Come Back to the US?

• In D-4 Jupiter is in the 5th house with the 5th lord, and most of his daśā is over. Towards the end of his daśā he gives the trip back to her own place.
• A student notes that Jupiter is the 4th lord in the 5th. The teacher: that does not show going abroad, it shows coming back to one's own place. The problem is that Jupiter is also the bādhaka lord (7th lord for Virgo lagna), and a bādhaka lord can show going to a faraway country.
• The coming antardaśā is Rahu's. In D-4 Rahu is in the 6th from lagna and the 2nd from Jupiter. In the rāśi he is in the 3rd from lagna and the 5th from Jupiter. He is the kāraka of foreign residence, yet nothing strong here shows going abroad again.
• Verdict: the chance of coming back to the US is low.

"Instead of going with a negative thinking, 'will I come back', let her go with the intention of settling down there. And there is a very good chance that she will settle down there."

Remedy

• From Moon, the 8th and 12th are heavily occupied: Saturn in the 8th; Mercury, Mars and Ketu in the 12th. A tense, unsettled mind in general, and more so now with Saturn transiting the 12th from Moon. Saturn daśā is coming, and he is in the 8th from Moon. She needs something to relieve the mental tension.
• Iṣṭa Devatā: Saturn is the Ātmakāraka. In the navāṁśa, the 12th from the Ātmakāraka (Scorpio) holds the lagna and Mars in his own sign. Clearly Mars: Subrahmaṇya or Hanumān.
• Why Hanumān: Hanumān also controls Saturn, so he answers both the Iṣṭa Devatā and the sāḍe-sātī.
• Why Mars matters: Every negative combination from Moon has a Mars link: Saturn in the 8th is in a sign of Mars, and Mars himself is with Ketu in the 12th. Mars is also the 5th lord, of devotion.
• The D-20 is left out: its lagna is still on a border and would need another 52 seconds. Mars is in his own sign there with Rahu and Ketu, but the house is uncertain.
• Prescription: Read the Hanumān Chālīsā every Saturday and Tuesday. If only one day, Saturday rather than Tuesday, because the trouble is mainly Saturn's.

"She basically has a good life but tense. That is the bottom line."
