PVNR's Chart — Aries Narayana Dasha Three-Parts (1995–2007) & Additional Rules

Full Three-Parts Rule application to PVNR's Aries Narayana Dasha (April 1995 – April 2007): Aries = Sirshodaya sign (results come in first third). Planets in Aries, planets aspecting Aries, and Mars (Aries lord) each get their assigned slot. Events: career change, SJC work, marriage, children — all mapped to specific quarters. Additional interpretive rules: Arudha Lagna results are Desha-Kala-Patra dependent; Badhakasthana lord or planets in Badhakasthana can take the person abroad; applying these rules to Aries dasha results.

"When you look at Arudha Lagna, the results of various combinations are Desha-Kala-Patra dependent. The same yoga manifests differently based on where and when."

Setting Up the Three-Parts

  • Aries = Prishtodaya sign → LAST slot gives sign results
  • Lord of Aries = Mars, placed in Aries itself (also Prishtodaya) → takes LAST available slot after sign takes its slot
  • Wait: Sign takes LAST; lord is also Prishtodaya and wants the LAST available slot — but LAST is already taken by the sign
    • So lord takes the LAST of the remaining two = SECOND slot
    • FIRST slot goes to associations (7 planets)

Timeline: 12-year dasha; each slot = 4 years (48 months)

SlotDurationContent
1st (Associations)Apr 1995 – Apr 19997 planets aspecting/occupying Aries
2nd (Mars's results)Apr 1999 – Apr 2003Results of Mars as Aries lord
3rd (Aries itself)Apr 2003 – Apr 2007Results of the sign Aries

Associations Slot: 7 Planets (Apr 1995 – Apr 1999)

7 planets occupy or aspect Aries by rasi drishti: Venus, Saturn, Mars, Mercury (in Aries), plus Moon, Rahu, Ketu (in Aquarius aspecting Aries)

Rahu's effective advancement = 30° − 16°53' = 13°7'

Order by longitude advancement in sign (from Chara Karaka logic):

  1. Moon (28°33' Aquarius) — Atmakaraka (highest degree)
  2. Mars (26°40' Aries) — Amatyakaraka
  3. Saturn (15°6' Aries) — Maatrukaraka
  4. Rahu (effective 13°7') — Pitrukaraka (Rahu comes before Ketu — traditional view)
  5. Ketu (same longitude as Rahu — Ketu usually follows Rahu; or assess strength)
  6. Venus (7°54' Aries) — Gnatika karaka
  7. Mercury (3° Aries) — Dara karaka (lowest)

Each gets ~7 months (48 months ÷ 7 ≈ 7 months)

Moon (Apr 1995 – Nov 1995)

  • Moon is the 11th lord (Cancer owns 11H from Virgo lagna)
  • Moon occupies 6th house (Aquarius)
  • Moon aspects Aries (8th house) from Aquarius
  • Logic: 11L in 6H bringing 11H results to 8H = gains through service or overcoming obstacles
  • Result: Gains related to job/service; changing jobs; working through obstacles
  • What happened: PVNR returned to USA from India/Korea, found one job, then switched to a better one within 3 months ✓

Mars (Nov 1995 – Jun 1996)

  • Mars is the 8th lord in its own sign Aries (8th house)
  • 8L in 8H in own house = good period (lord is strong in own house despite dusthana placement)
  • 8th house = changes, instability
  • Result: Good changes in life; visa approvals; instability with positive outcome
  • What happened: Job visa to USA approved; switched jobs; child born (shown by A5)
    • Student identifies A5 in Aries → correctly predicts child birth ✓

Saturn (Jun 1996 – Jan 1997)

  • Saturn is the 5th lord (Capricorn) AND 6th lord (Aquarius) from Virgo lagna
  • Saturn is debilitated in Aries (with Neecha Bhanga — partially overcome)
  • 5L in 8H → scholarship, occult learning, BUT anxiety about children
  • 6L in 8H → Vipritha Raja Yoga (good eventually) BUT also accident potential (6L + 8H)
  • Result: Scholarship/learning in occult; anxiety; possible accident; some health concerns
  • What happened: Some occult scholarship/learning; vehicular accident (6L in 8H); health not perfect ✓

Rahu (Jan 1997 – Aug 1997)

  • Rahu = co-lord of 6th house (with Saturn)
  • Rahu in own sign Aquarius (strong) → 6L strong in 6H
  • Strong 6th lord = "successful sailing despite not smooth sailing" — overcoming obstacles with effort
  • Result: Obstacles and hard work, but successful overcoming them; service-related career activity
  • What happened: Working hard, performing well, overcoming professional obstacles ✓

Ketu (Aug 1997 – Mar 1998)

  • Ketu = 3rd lord (Scorpio) in 12th house (Leo)
  • Ketu is the significator of parampara (guru-disciple lineage) and Vedic knowledge
  • 3H = communication, writing; 12H = moksha, spirituality, occult
  • Ketu aspecting Aries (8H) = occult knowledge, parampara relationships
  • Result: Communication, writing, spirituality increase, meeting a guru
  • What happened:
    • Joined the Jyotish List on the internet (Sep 1997) — posting actively every day
    • Met Pt. Sanjay Rath on that list — identified him as a future guru
    • Very active writing/teaching period on Jyotish
    • "Ketu is the significator for parampara. Ketu's aspect on Aries can show parampara relationships coming related to occult knowledge." ✓

Venus (Mar 1998 – Oct 1998)

  • Venus = 9th lord (Taurus) AND 2nd lord (Libra) from Virgo lagna
  • 9th lord = fortune, guidance, guru
  • 2nd lord = wealth, resources
  • Venus in Aries (8H) = good for Aries; may be bad for Venus personally (inimical sign for Venus) but that's a separate issue
  • Result: Guidance from a guru; resource accumulation; fortune through guru connection
  • What happened:
    • April 7–8, 1998: Pt. Sanjay Rath sent email accepting PVNR as his student (second student ever)
    • Devoted significant time communicating with PVNR, teaching privately
    • "Venus is the 9th lord of guidance and guru. It gave me a lot of guidance during that period." ✓

Mercury (Oct 1998 – Apr 1999)

  • Mercury = Lagna lord (Virgo) AND 10th lord (Gemini) from Virgo lagna
  • Mercury in Aries (8H) = good for Aries; lagna lord in any sign brings positive energy to that sign
  • Result: Good health; good career; positive overall period
  • What happened: Positive, stable period in career and health ✓

Mars's Slot: 4 Quarters (Malefic — Avastha First)

Mars = Amatyakaraka; 3rd and 8th lord; in Aries (own sign = Moolatrikona). Malefic.

Quarter 1 (Apr 1999 – Apr 2000): Mars's Avastha

  • Mars in Moolatrikona (Aries 0°–12°): excellent strength
  • Nrityalipsa avastha (Chayanadi): very energetic state
  • Sthala Yoga: any planet in 8H in the sign ruling that 8H gives Sthala Yoga (specific yoga of place/stability)
  • Result: Excellent period for 8th house matters — occult learning; powerful energy; good career
  • What happened: Excellent performance, occult knowledge growing, very energetic, Sthala Yoga results ✓

Quarter 2 (Apr 2000 – Apr 2001): Mars's Yogas

Key yogas of Mars (all graha drishti based):

  • Vipritha Raj Yoga with Saturn (6L and 8L together in dusthana → good eventually)
  • Rajasambandha Yoga #1: AmK (Mars) conjoins 10L (Mercury) → important person in a "king's court" (workplace recognition)
  • Rajasambandha Yoga #2: AmK (Mars) in own sign → additional Rajasambandha
  • Guru-Mangala Yoga (Mars and Jupiter in graha drishti through samsaptaka)
  • Vesi Yoga: any planet in 2nd from Sun → balanced, truthful, happy; Mars is in 2nd from Sun here
  • Negative yogas: Mars (8L malefic) afflicts Mercury (LL), Venus (9L), Saturn (5L) — all trine lords
    • But: Saturn is CLOSEST to Mars (15°6' vs 27° for Mars), and Vipritha RY with Saturn dominates
    • Mercury and Venus are far away (3° and 7°54') — their affliction is weak
    • So positive yogas dominate
  • Result: Career recognition; important person in workplace; Badhaka lord (Jupiter) associated with 8L (Mars) and 9L → settling abroad possible
  • What happened: Career recognition; became important person in team; received Green Card

Quarter 3 (Apr 2001 – Apr 2002): Mars's Owned Houses = 3rd and 8th

  • 3rd house = communication, writing, but also 12th from 4H = big expenditure on 4H matters
    • Mars + 3rd house + real estate = buying property (Mars = karaka for real estate purchases, taking loans)
  • 8th house = instability, changes
  • 3L and 8L placed in a dusthana (8H) = actually good for these houses' results (dusthana lords in dusthana = good)
  • Result: Job change; instability in life; buying a house; big investment
  • What happened: Changed job from one company; bought a new house (construction started March, received July, moved in August); period of instability from all these changes ✓

Quarter 4 (Apr 2002 – Apr 2003): Mars's Occupied House = 8th House

  • Mars being in 8H — its raw placement result, forgetting everything else
  • Mars is Amatyakaraka in 8H = bad for career (AmK in 8H = trouble in professional life)
  • 8H = changes, instability, shocks
  • Result: Problematic period in career; job loss; dynamism but not happy
  • What happened: Company went into "hibernation mode" after startup, laid off a significant portion of the engineering team including PVNR; then worked from home for an Atlanta company (more dynamic than wanted); not very happy ✓

Aries Sign Slot (Apr 2003 – Apr 2007)

  • Aries = 8th house from Lagna → occult studies, instability, changes; but bad for health
  • Aries = 6th house from AL → malefic sign (Mars rules Aries) in 6th from AL = GOOD materially (material energy, success, achievements)
  • Aries = 3rd house from Moon → mentally, lots of energy, initiative, communication

Rasi aspects on Aries: from Aquarius (6H), from Scorpio (3H), from Leo (12H):

  • 6H aspect = fights, conflicts, obstacles
  • 3H aspect = communication, initiative
  • 12H aspect = giving up, losses

Overall: Good for material achievement (malefic sign in 6th from AL); good for occult; bad for health. Period of health concerns (PVNR notes: "for the last 1 year my health is not really great" — mentioned during the class itself, which was in 2005, within this period) ✓

Additional Interpretive Rules Covered

Same Rule Works for Divisional Charts

"These principles also equally apply to any Divisional Chart, but there you have to focus on a particular area of life that the Divisional Chart corresponds to."

— PVNR

The Three-Parts Rule works for D-9 ND (marriage), D-10 ND (career), D-24 ND (learning), etc. Just filter results through the lens of that division's domain.

About the Results of a Sign — Sub-Division

For the 1/3 slot given to the sign itself, traditional knowledge does not provide further subdivision rules. But you can always look at:

  • Sign nature (element, guna)
  • House from Lagna, Moon, and AL
  • Rasi drishti aspects on the sign
  • Planets in those aspecting signs

Range of Results

PVNR stresses that the natal chart sets a range of possibilities (minimum to maximum). The Three-Parts Rule identifies when a result peaks within that range:

  • Bad sub-period (inimical placement, bad avastha) → result bottoms out WITHIN the range (still within what the chart allows)
  • Good sub-period (yogas, good avastha) → result peaks within the range
  • The chart itself determines the absolute range; the dasha and its sub-periods modulate within that range

"If a planet is in adhishatru sthana and giving the result of its state, it will bottom out within the range of possibility. When the planet is in a good yoga and giving the results of that yoga, it will peak."

— PVNR

A Warning About External Sources

PVNR mentions that information about the Three-Parts Rule also exists in Pt. Sanjay Rath's book "Narayana Dasa" and on the Vedic Astrology Yahoo Group. However:

"Don't be surprised if there are some inconsistencies. Sanjayji intentionally slightly misrepresents things in a few places — he doesn't like spoon-feeding. This is the most authentic teaching to me privately, and this is what works in practice."

— PVNR

Some intentional variation exists between public and private teaching. The version taught here is the operational one.
