Matri Shoola Dasha — Analyzing Mother's Fate

Shoola Dasha can be started from a house other than lagna to see a relative:

• 4th house → Matri Shoola Dasha (mother)
• 9th house → Pitri Shoola Dasha (father)
• 3rd house → sibling

Matri Shoola Dasha starts from the stronger of the 4th and the 10th.

Which Dashas Can Kill

• For the native: Arudha Lagna and its trines (also the 3rd from Arudha Lagna).
• For father and mother: the corresponding Arudha — A9 for father, A4 for mother — and its trines.
• A student proposes the 8th from Saturn. PVNR: Saturn is the karaka of longevity for the native. For mother, take the Sthira Karaka of mother and its trines.
• The dasha of A4 itself is stronger than that of its other trines.
• A sign that links both — the trines of A4 and the trines of the Sthira Karaka — is the strongest candidate.

Sthira Karaka, Not Chara Karaka

• The Chara Karaka (Matrikaraka) shows mother from the point of view of sustenance, activities, rajas.
• For death, or mortal suffering short of death, use the Sthira Karaka.
• Sthira Karaka of mother = Mars or Moon, whichever is stronger.

"Sthira karakas are Shiva rupas. Chara karakas are Vishnu rupas. Naisargika karakas are Brahma rupas."

What It Is Used For

Shoola Dasha here is a sanity check — is there potential in this period or not. It is not used in this class to pinpoint the death.

"Using Shoola Dasha, it is possible. But we will never ever go into that. All we will do is some sanity check."

Example chart

A student of the class, absent that day. His mother is in the last stage of cancer, diagnosed the week before — the middle of July 2006. The doctors gave three to six months. This is the son's chart, read for the mother.

Amavasya

• The moment the chart opens it shows Amavasya: he has Amavasya dosha.
• A student asks for the percentage left. "For Amavasya you don't care. Only for Chaturdashi you care about the percentage."

Matri Shoola Dasha (Rashi Chart)

A student wants to go straight to D-12. PVNR first checks the rashi chart: is a potentially fatal dasha running for mother?

• Aries lagna. The 4th house is Cancer; its lord Moon is in Virgo, the 3rd from it. A4 = the 3rd from Moon = Scorpio.
• Sthira Karaka of mother: Mars or Moon. "Moon is much stronger." Moon is in Virgo.
• Running: Scorpio dasha, 2004 to 2013.
• Scorpio is A4 itself — the first of its trines, and stronger than the other two.
• Scorpio is not a trine from the Moon. But the trines from the Moon are Virgo, Capricorn and Taurus, and Venus, lord of Taurus, sits in Scorpio. So Scorpio is linked both to A4 and to a trine of the Sthira Karaka.
• Had Virgo dasha been running instead, it would have been an even stronger candidate.
• Conclusion: a decent chance of suffering to the mother, or her death, between 2004 and 2013. A student points out that this is nine years long — PVNR agrees; it is only the sanity check.

Which Dasha Applies

• Navamsa lagna is not vargottama, the lagna lord is not in the 7th, the 7th lord is not in lagna, the Sun is not in lagna. None of the conditions for a conditional dasha apply. Vimshottari from the Moon is used.
• He has just entered Saturn Mahadasha: Saturn–Saturn–Saturn is running. He is at a dasha chhidra, the boundary of two mahadashas — usually a hard time with many changes.
• The seed comparison (Part 5) leaves Janma Vimshottari in place.

L4 in the Dwadasamsa

To judge how the time is for mother, the lagna to take is L4 — the Arudha of the 4th lord — in D-12.

• D-12 lagna is Libra. The 4th is Capricorn; its lord Saturn is in Aquarius. Capricorn is the 12th from Saturn, and the 12th from Capricorn is Sagittarius = L4.

Houses of Longevity and the Marakas

• The 3rd gives vitality and the 8th gives long life. Weakness or affliction there robs both.
• The 2nd and 7th are the 12th from them: the 2nd is loss of vitality, the 7th is loss of longevity.
• Combinations to watch: 3rd lord in the 2nd, 2nd lord in the 3rd, 7th lord in the 8th, 8th lord in the 7th.

Mercury is the strong maraka: 7th lord in the 7th. PVNR recalls the previous class, where the husband's death also involved the 2nd and 7th from L7.

Saturn is the 2nd lord in the 3rd. He is also the 3rd lord, so his agenda is mixed: give vitality and take it away.

Saturn Weakens the Sign He Occupies

A student says the 3rd lord in the 3rd should strengthen it. PVNR: for any other planet, yes. Not for Saturn.

• A planet in Marana Karaka Sthana counted from its own sign hurts that sign, whatever the lagna.
• Jupiter in Taurus is in the 3rd from Pisces — bad for Pisces.
• Venus in Pisces is in the 6th from Libra. Exalted, good for Taurus, but he hurts Libra: "He may promote it to some extent, but he can also give a fatal blow to Libra at some point of time."
• Saturn's Marana Karaka Sthana is the 1st house. So Saturn in his own sign is in Marana Karaka Sthana from that very sign.
• Mars in Aries as 3rd lord in the 3rd for Aquarius lagna is excellent. Venus in Libra does not weaken Libra. Jupiter in Pisces does not weaken Pisces.

"Saturn is the only guy — he will weaken the sign that he occupies even if it is his own."

Ketu makes it worse. Ketu burns the house he is in, and Saturn and Ketu together in a house destroy it.

"If Saturn was alone, even though he is in Marana Karaka Sthana, still he would not have really punished that much. … Vitality would have taken some blow, but maybe he wouldn't have acted as a maraka."

The 8th Lord and the Moon

• A student notes the 3rd lord is with the 8th lord on one axis. Moon, the 8th lord from L4, is with Rahu and is opposed by Saturn and Ketu. So Saturn is linked to the 8th as well as to the 2nd and 3rd.
• Leaving L4 aside: Moon is the natural karaka of mother, and here Moon is beaten down by Rahu, Saturn and Ketu.
• Moon is also in the bādhaka sthāna from the D-12 lagna (Leo, the 11th from Libra).
• General reading, apart from any dasha: the mother is not very fortunate — unhealthy or sad, many ups and downs. In Saturn or Rahu dasha these results come to the front.

The Worse Period Ahead

• Saturn–Saturn is not good. Look at the pratyantardashas.
• After Saturn's own pratyantardasha comes Mercury's — the true maraka.
• Saturn–Saturn–Mercury: 17 November (2006) to 19 April (2007).

"In my view, the time after November is even worse compared to now."

Transit

A student asks about Saturn's transit in the Moon's sign. PVNR: "Saturn in Moon sign, mother suffers" is generic and does not hold up statistically. Read transits from the natal reference for the matter:

• From natal L4 in Sagittarius, Saturn has been transiting Cancer, the 8th, and Saturn dasha began while he was there. Mars was in Cancer with him at the time.
• That raises the chances.

Tithi Pravesha Charts — Disease This Year, Danger Next Year

Both annual charts are read in the Dwadasamsa, from L4 of that chart.

2005–06 (the running year)

• Hora lord, ruler of the year: Mars.
• D-12 lagna is Leo; the 4th is Scorpio. Mars is taken as its stronger lord. He is in Capricorn, so L4 = Virgo.

From Virgo:

• Mars rules the 3rd and the 8th: the ruler of the year is the 8th lord. He is exalted in Capricorn but retrograde — equivalent to debilitation — so not that bad in himself. Still the 8th lord.
• 8th house, Aries: Sun and Ketu. Sun is the 12th lord. The 12th lord in the 8th is a Viparita Raja Yoga and the Sun is exalted, but he is eclipsed by Ketu, Rahu aspects him from Libra, and Mars has graha drishti on him from Capricorn. "There is a strong problem in the 8th house."
• The Sun's agenda is the 12th house: imprisonment, hospitalization, being immobile and confined to one place — also sadhana and moksha.
• Saturn is the 5th and 6th lord, together with Mars in Capricorn.

Cancer and Tumours

• With tamasic planets — Rahu, Ketu, Saturn — involved in the 8th, the disease can be cancer. "Cancers are unlikely to be caused if there aren't any tamasic planets. Cancer is a tamasic disease."
• Extra growth such as a tumour is usually Jupiter and Venus — rajasic, not tamasic.
• A student objects that cancer is a growth. PVNR offers to take the comment back, then states his understanding: cells are destroyed and that destructiveness spreads. What grows is the process of killing.

Why Saturn Dasha Gave the Diagnosis

The cancer was found in Saturn's dasha of the Tithi Pravesha year.

• The result belonged to the planet in the 8th (Sun) or the lord of the 8th (Mars). Saturn, conjunct Mars, gave it on Mars's behalf.
• Saturn is the karaka of all disease and suffering: the project manager. The lord of the house is a group manager; planets in the house are group members. Look for links between them.
• Saturn does not always give Mars's results. They are at loggerheads — one slow, one fast. "You drink your juice, I will drink my juice." Here they join hands: Mars is the 8th lord, Saturn is the 6th lord and the karaka of disease.
• Mars's retrogression makes no difference to this.
• Saturn dasha does not mean disease for everyone. He must be associated with the 6th or 8th house or the planets in them.

Is Death Shown This Year?

• The 7th house is not strong. The 7th lord Jupiter is with the 9th lord Venus.
• No strong maraka combination — only combinations of disease: Sun and Ketu in the 8th, the 8th lord with Saturn.
• A student points to Rahu, 6th lord in the 2nd. PVNR: any malefic in the 2nd is capable of killing, but this does not worry him. The 7th lord or the 3rd lord in the 2nd would.

The Opening — Jupiter

• From L4 Jupiter is the 4th lord in the 4th, with the 9th lord Venus. Though he owns the 7th, he has nothing else to do with the maraka houses.
• He aspects the 8th house and carries the energy of the 9th lord, the protector, into it. He can lessen the disease — "if not cure, lessen the severity … so that life can be prolonged by a few years."
• Jupiter's dasha in this annual chart: 28 July to 29 September. Then Rahu's, which is not so good.

(The site's engine has Jupiter at 7°30′ Libra in this annual chart, exactly on a Dwadasamsa boundary, and shows him in Capricorn with Mars and Saturn. The class has him in Sagittarius with Venus. Every other placement matches.)

2006–07 (next year)

• D-12: L4 = Pisces.
• Mercury, the 7th lord, is in the 7th (Virgo), and lagna lord Jupiter is there with him. Mercury is the maraka from natal L4 as well, and his natal pratyantardasha begins in November.
• Mars, 2nd lord — and 9th lord — is in the 9th with the 8th lord Venus and the 6th lord Sun. The house of protection is weakened by the 6th and 8th lords.

"Until this October, chance is very little of death. But from this October to next October, there is a strong chance."

PVNR's reading of the doctors' three to six months: not three; more like six, or more.

Disease Houses — Parashara's Distinction

Asked for the house of disease, the students say the 6th, then "6 and 8". PVNR:

"Parashara says that 8th house is the house that shows diseases. 6th house is the house that shows enemy. But we normally use the 6th house also for diseases."

The 12th lord's results: hospitalization, immobility, confinement.

Remedies for the Mother

"Always when somebody is in danger of death, there is nothing like Mahamrityunjaya Mantra."

• Mahamrityunjaya (Tryambakam yajāmahe) every day, with a sankalpa naming the mother and asking for her health and longevity. The sankalpa may be said in English. If it does not avert death, it eases it and gives a better passage afterwards.
• Relief is needed from Saturn (dasha lord) and Mercury (pratyantardasha lord, and maraka in next year's chart).
• For Mercury, a form of Vishnu. Mercury is with Mars in the natal chart → Narasimha. The mantra Ugram vīram Mahāviṣṇum, 108 times daily, and the Narasimha Kavacham. The mantra was taught by Rudra — the one whose withdrawal of blessing brings death.
• Sudarshana Homa for Mercury, done in her name and near her, so she breathes the smoke.
• 28 July to 29 September is the best opportunity (Jupiter's dasha in the annual chart).

"During August and September, do meditation like a possessed man."

"As long as you have expectation, that is new karma. Without any expectations, just submit yourself to Narasimha and Shiva and then do these mantras."

Three to Six Months Is Not a Sentence

PVNR tells of a young man with advanced blood cancer, given three to six months. His sister did the Mrityunjaya mantra and several pujas were done; he went through chemotherapy and survived. Full recovery took two to three years. PVNR had told the sister that the next six months were critical and that if he came through them he would do well. A person close to death who vows to dedicate the rest of his life to the deity can survive even a terminal disease — but must then keep the vow.

"If you say Maraka dasha is running, so he is going to die, there is nothing productive in it. On the other hand, if you suggest something, then it is productive."
