Marriage — Can Sun–Jupiter Give It? Is It 2001?

Question (September 2001): an alliance is close to being settled. "Should I get married soon?" Age 26.

D-9 is the chart of marriage. (A student went to D-7: "First let him get married, then you can talk about children.")

Natal D-9 — Sun–Jupiter

• Sun is the 5th lord in the 5th, and 7th from Venus. But do not dwell on the daśā lord; look at the antardaśā lord.
• Jupiter is in UL and in the Dārapada, and he is the 9th lord of dharma.
• Bhoga: Jupiter is 11th from Sun; the 11th from Jupiter is the lagna. Bhoga in the 1st, 7th or 9th house can give marriage.
• So the running antardaśā can give marriage.

Which annual year?

• The factors to check for marriage: 1st house, 7th house, 9th house and UL. "UL is more important."
• Marriages in Andhra Pradesh cluster in Māgha māsa, which falls around February — in the next annual year.
• The students did not see marriage in the 2001 annual chart. In its D-9, with Venus daśā of the year running, there are no good links between UL, A7 and lagna. The teacher let that stand: look at 2002, and come back to 2001 "with a microscope" only if 2002 shows nothing.

Marriage — the 2002 Annual Chart

Tithi Praveśa: begins February 8, 2002. Ruler of the year: Mars.

Rāśi of the year — Sagittarius lagna

• Lagna lord Jupiter is in the 7th house (with Rāhu — Guru-Cāṇḍāla is there). A lagna lord in a house favours the matters of that house.
• 7th lord Mercury and 9th lord Sun are together, and they are in UL (Capricorn). The 9th lord is dharma.
• UL lord Saturn is at 14° Taurus. The Vivāha Sahama is at 10° Taurus, four degrees away. The UL lord sits on the marriage sahama.
• A7 lord is Sun, and he is in UL. The 7th lord and the A7 lord are together in UL.
• Several links among UL, A7, lagna and the 7th house — the links the 2001 chart lacked.

D-9 of the year — Sagittarius lagna

Houses to check in D-9: the 9th, the 7th, the lagna and UL.

• 9th house: Sun in own sign, Leo. Very strong.
• 7th lord Mercury is in the 3rd. A kāma trikoṇa lord in another kāma trikoṇa: "7th lord in the 11th or 3rd is good."
• Mercury is in the Ārūḍha Lagna — a tangible new beginning in dharmic life.
• Jupiter rules both the lagna and UL, and has argalā on both.
• Jupiter is with Mars, the 5th lord: a rāja yoga of lagna lord and 5th lord. Jupiter is debilitated but retrograde — the class notes take the retrogression as giving results akin to exaltation; Mars is exalted. Both are strong.
• Mars is the ruler of the year. So the lagna-and-UL lord is tied to the ruler of the year.

Which daśā of the year

• The year opens on February 8 in Mars daśā, which runs only till February 10 — two days.
• Then Mercury. He is the 7th lord in both rāśi and D-9; in UL in the rāśi; in a kāma trikoṇa and in Ārūḍha Lagna in D-9.

"He is the 7th lord in both Rāśi and Navāṁśa, he is in UL in Rāśi, and he is in a kāma trikoṇa, in Ārūḍha Lagna, in the Navāṁśa."

• Prediction: marriage after February 10 — about when Māgha māsa began that year (February 11 or so).
• Asked whether to go ahead with the career in danger: "Happily get married", stay alert about the job, keep the resume at hand. The break will not be a long one.

Result

The family fixed the wedding for mid-February 2002. The date fell in Mercury–Jupiter of the annual chart: Mercury the 7th lord, Jupiter the lagna and UL lord joined with exalted Mars, the ruler of the year. He had his H-1 papers by then, married, and returned with his wife.

Common sense in timing

• If the chart gives a window — say January to April — and the family is from South India, February is the likely month: far more marriages happen in Māgha than in any other month.
• You can go further. A year has three or four good muhūrtas in such a window. Name those days and you have a good chance of being right.
• The reverse: if one of your candidate months has no good muhūrtas, do not pick it. Nearly everybody in South India finds a good muhūrta and avoids certain months.

"When you have a couple of possibilities and you want to pick the right one, use some common sense also."

• The same holds elsewhere. People who want to marry usually do so within a year or two. A person seriously looking for a job change, with a good resume, changes within months. Make the prediction by common sense and use astrology to confirm it. "That works many times."

Job Change — 2005

Situation (April 2005): more than three years in one job. Heavy travel. He dislikes the company, the work and the travel; the company has no direction. He wants out, but since marriage he also wants stability.

Natal chart

Sun daśā ends and Moon daśā begins in July 2005. Moon rules the 3rd and sits in the bādhaka sthāna, but that is the 9th house. Some chance of a job change.

Annual chart 2005

Tithi Praveśa: February 5, 2005, 4:33:01 PM IST. Ruler of the year: Mars. He comes in the middle of the Saturn daśā of the year.

D-10 of the year — Pisces lagna:

• Saturn: in lagna, his maraṇa kāraka sthāna. "Lagna Śani gives depression." Sadness and frustration, no change.
• Mars: ruler of the year, exalted in the 11th house, with the lagna and 10th lord Jupiter.
• Jupiter: lagna lord in the 11th with exalted Mars (9th lord) and Moon, in several yogas. Recognition for his work — which tempts him to stay.
• Rāhu: the 12th lord eclipsing the 6th lord (Sun). Politics, tension, unhappiness at work. No change.
• Venus: 3rd and 8th lord in the 10th house, in A6. A functional malefic.

"If 8th lord is in 10th or 10th lord is in 8th, that particular planet can give a change of job."

The class notes give the general rule: for a job change, the daśā lord must have some connection with the 3rd or 8th house. Venus owns both.

Told: start looking now; the change comes in Venus daśā, after August 16 — August to October.

Result: the offer came around August 10 and he moved to a good job in September (September 29, as the teacher recalls it). The change came in Venus.
