D3 Drekkana — Siblings Analysis with Arudha
Full D3 (Drekkana) analysis for siblings: counting siblings from 3H/11H, reading sibling lagnas from the D3, and using Arudha Padas to identify the actual sibling in the world. PVNR's note: D3 is less reliable than D7 — sometimes you must explain things away. Rahu-Ketu as end markers for sibling counting.
"Unless you make a lot of failed predictions, you will not get your concepts right."

Example Chart
Drekkana (D-3) Analysis: Siblings
Direction of Count (Odd/Even Lagna Rule)
- Odd sign Lagna → count forward (zodiacal direction)
- Even sign Lagna → count backward (reverse direction)
Younger Siblings (D-3 Lagna = Taurus, Even Sign → Count Backward)
- 1st younger sibling: Count 3 backward = Pisces → Lord = Jupiter (in Libra)
- 2nd younger sibling: 3rd from Pisces counting backward = Sagittarius → etc.
Elder Siblings (D-3 Even → Count Backward)
- 1st elder sibling: Count 11 backward = Cancer → BUT there is Rahu in Cancer
- Rahu indicates a miscarriage/stillbirth at that position
- After asking: there WAS a miscarriage between them — so Cancer = the miscarried child
- 1st living elder sibling = Virgo → Lord Mercury (in Taurus)
Critical Rule: Always check for miscarriages when analyzing D-3 and D-7. A miscarriage occupies a "slot" in the sequence. Missing this shifts everything and all predictions will be wrong.
Rahu-Ketu as "End Markers"
- In D-3 and D-7 sequences, when you encounter Rahu or Ketu in a slot, that is normally the end of siblings/children.
- Exception: If Jupiter aspects the next sign or the lord of the next sign is connected to Jupiter, and Jupiter is in a friendly sign, Jupiter's protective power can allow one more child/sibling beyond Rahu.
- In this chart: Rahu in Cancer (D-7 analysis), but next sign Capricorn has lord Saturn in Sagittarius with Jupiter's Rashi Drishti → second child possible.
Analyzing a Sibling's Chart from D-3
- Find the sibling's sign
- Find the lord of that sign
- The sign where that lord is placed = the lagna for that sibling
- Analyze all houses from that lagna — personality, intelligence, career, speech, marriage, health
For the younger sister (Pisces sign, lord Jupiter in Libra):
- Lagna = Libra with Jupiter in lagna
- 5th lord = Saturn in 12th → not very intelligent (contradicts Jupiter in lagna initially)
- Moon in 6th house (10th lord in 6th) → service career, teacher role
- Mercury in 8th house → widely read, knows something about many subjects
- Mars in 2nd → very aggressive in speech
- Moon in Jupiter's sign in 6th → caring teacher (not university, but nurturing teacher)
- Rahu in 10th in Moon sign (enemy) → does not ensure strong career, career changes
- Jupiter in lagna = benefic, caring; Venus as lagna lord in 11th = diplomatic, has friends
Confirmed by student: She works on-and-off as a teacher, not highly intelligent but caring.
Analyzing a Sibling's Spouse (Upada / UL)
To find the spouse of a sibling, do NOT look at 7th from the sibling's lagna.
- Your relationship with your sibling is a real, karmic relationship (blood bond).
- Your relationship with your sibling's spouse is through Maya (social bond created by the marriage).
- Therefore: use the Upada (UL = A12 Arudha) from the sibling's lagna to see their spouse.
- The sign where UL falls = lagna for the sibling's spouse.
For the younger sister (Libra lagna): UL = Capricorn → Ketu in Capricorn → brother-in-law's lagna
- Ketu in lagna: spiritually inclined or headless/stubborn, impossible to argue with
- Ketu in Capricorn (Makara = Kali Yuga sign) → more headless than spiritual
- Saturn in 9th → atheistic tendency (won't take religion easily), but will follow rules/traditions
Ketu in lagna characteristics:
- Alone: headless, does things without thinking, you can't understand why
- With Jupiter: gets Jupiter's wisdom/head → very wise
Contrasting Rahu vs. Ketu stubbornness:
- Ketu in lagna: doesn't care if others understand them, just follows their own path silently
- Rahu in 3rd: argues, fights, wants to convince people, very vocally stubborn
Sun in 9th House (Dharma Sthana)
- Idealistic, strong in principles
- Forces principles/ideas on others
- "Kingly" nature — like Rajiv Gandhi: cannot adapt or change
- Service vs. business judgment: more planets/indicators in 6th = service career
Mercury in 8th House (Beneficial Placement)
- One of the few planets for whom 8th house is GOOD (not malefic)
- Results: widely read, knowledge of many subjects, can talk about anything
- Can be "jack of all trades" or a genuine know-all
- "Jack of all" if Mercury is weak; genuine polymath if Mercury is strong
Saturn in 9th House
- Not religious in the deep sense; will follow customs/rituals but question God's existence
- Tends toward atheism or questioning nature regarding religion
- Will not accept things easily; always questions before accepting
Badhakasthana (Obstacle Houses) — Repeated from Lesson 17
- Chara (Movable) lagna → 11th house is Badhakasthana
- Sthira (Fixed) lagna → 9th house is Badhakasthana
- Dviswa (Dual) lagna → 7th house is Badhakasthana
Nature of Badhaka troubles: Inexplicable, without clear cause. In Shastra: from pretas and bhutas (spirits/ghosts). In practical understanding: subconscious or mental problems with no physiological explanation. Distinct from:
- 6th house troubles: from enemies (reason can be identified)
- 8th house troubles: ill health with physiological cause
- Badhaka: completely inexplicable, undiagnosable — and can coexist with gains
Ketu as Badhakesha (from sibling's upada chart): gains possible (as labhasthana lord), but constant inexplicable worries/mental disturbances during Ketu dasha.
Sibling's Children: 9th from Upada
Rule: To find children of a sibling (or any relation), take the 9th house from their Upada. This is because children are the dharma (9th) of their marriage (Upada).
For the younger sister: UL = Capricorn → 9th from Capricorn = Virgo → this is the lagna for her children
- Saturn in Virgo (in the sign) → 1st child indicator = strong Saturn influence, female (Saturn in female sign)
- Mercury is lord of Virgo → 2nd child indicator = strong Mercury influence, also female
- Aspects: Sun aspects → could indicate male; Moon aspects → female
Order of priority for child reading:
- Planet in the sign (most important)
- Lord of the sign
- Planets aspecting the sign
Venus Dasha effect for children (Virgo as lagna): Venus = 2nd and 9th lord in 12th house → children will go far from home/parents, possibly abroad. But Venus in 9th lordship protects them.
Confirming D-3 and Drekkana Analysis
After analyzing:
- Younger sibling: most features confirmed (teacher, caring, aggressive speech, diplomatic, on-and-off service)
- Elder sibling (Taurus lagna with Mercury): smart, adaptive learner, confirmed
- Brother-in-law (from UL = Gemini, Sun in lagna): Sun gives noble/authoritative nature but Saturn's aspect dilutes it → not dominating; Saturn in 4th → sukha lopa (heart problems, suffering silently)
Important observation: The chart seen from D-3 represents what IS VISIBLE TO THE QUERENT. If the querent is unaware of something about his sibling, it may not show clearly. You will see the sibling's life from the querent's vantage point.
Sex determination in D-3: Less reliable than in Saptamsha (D-7). Sometimes gives wrong gender. Use planet+sign combination as a guide but don't be overconfident.
Rule for gender from signs:
- Odd signs = Male; Even signs = Female
- Exceptions: Gemini = female, Cancer = male, Aquarius = female, Pisces = male
