Panchanga 5 Tattvas, Nakshatra Sutras & Special Nakshatras from Moon
Panchanga = 5 limbs of time, each mapping to an element: Tithi=Jala (prosperity, happiness), Vara=Agni (life force, vitality), Nakshatra=Vayu (kinetic energy — most important for remedies), Yoga=Akasha (binds all), Karana=Bhu (material manifestation). Creation order: Akasha→Vayu→Agni→Jala→Bhu — therefore Nakshatra (Vayu) is the priority for remediation. Nakshatra Sutras: Vedic mantras for each nakshatra deity (28 total including Abhijit); from Krittika through zodiac to Bharani. Even imperfect recitation carries power — no risk of bad results. Special Nakshatras from Moon: Janma Tara (Moon's own = general wellbeing), Karma Tara (10th from Moon = career), Abhisheka Tara (26th = power). How to activate yogas: find the nakshatra of the yoga's key planet, propitiate that deity.
"More than tithi, more than karana, it is the nakshatra that is the first thing to look at for remedies. It is the Vayu — the kinetic energy that sets everything in motion."
— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao
Panchanga — The 5 Limbs of Time and Their Tattvas
Panchanga = Pancha (5) + Anga (limb) = the 5 ways of classifying any moment in time. Each limb corresponds to one of the Pancha Bhutas (5 elements):
| Panchanga Limb | Tattva (Element) | What It Shows |
|---|---|---|
| Tithi | Jala (Water) | Prosperity, well-being, happiness, sense of connectedness; water holds everything together and lends fluidity |
| Vara (weekday) | Agni (Fire) | Life force, vitality, longevity; transforming potential |
| Nakshatra | Vayu (Air) | Kinetic energy; that which sets things in motion; gives strength to do things |
| Yoga | Akasha (Ether/Space) | Exists everywhere always; binds all other 4 elements together |
| Karana | Bhu (Earth) | Groundedness, material manifestation |
Order of Creation and Remedial Priority
- The order of creation: Akasha → Vayu → Agni → Jala → Bhu
- To strengthen any phenomenon: first strengthen Akasha, then Vayu
- Therefore: Nakshatra (Vayu) is more important than Tithi and Karana for remedies
- "More than tithi, more than karana, it is the nakshatra that is the first thing to look at"
Nakshatra — Why It's Critical
Vayu Tattva Nature
- Nakshatra = airy element of time
- Positive Vayu: gives strength, sets things in motion, provides kinetic energy, carries thought across distances
- Disturbed Vayu: lot of tension, anxiety, inability to get things moving
- "If Vayu is disturbed, if the airy nature is vitiated, there can be a lot of disturbance, tension, anxiety"
Practical Application
- If someone says "I am unhappy at work" → look at the Muhurta of job-joining, especially the Nakshatra
- If nakshatra is bad (e.g., Ashlesha for Jupiter's planet) and lord is poorly placed → Vayu tattva is afflicted
- Remedy: propitiate the nakshatra deity through the nakshatra sutra
Nakshatra Sutras — Vedic Mantras for Nakshatra Deities
What They Are
- Nakshatra Sutra = a collection of Vedic mantras (shlokas), one per nakshatra
- Each nakshatra has a specific ruling deity (different from Vimshottari dasha lord)
- The sutra = a mantra praising that deity in its role as ruler of that nakshatra
- Found in: "Mantra Bhushan" (Ramakrishna Mission publication) with intonation marks
Organization
- The sutras start from Krittika and proceed through the zodiac, ending at Bharani (ruled by Yama)
- This follows the Krittika scheme (some dashas also start from Krittika)
- There are 28 mantras (including Abhijit)
Key Nakshatra Deity Rulerships (Non-Vimshottari)
| Nakshatra | Deity | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Krittika | Agni (god of fire) | First in the sutra arrangement |
| Rohini | Prajapati (Kashyapa Prajapati = amsa of Brahma; progenitor of all beings) | Also called Brahma by some |
| Mrigashira | Soma | |
| Ardra | Rudra (Shiva's form; symbolizes fire in the world) | Pray for peace of mind; Rudrabhisheka + Rudra Chamakam |
| Punarvasu | Aditi (mother of the gods) | |
| Pushyami | Brihaspati (Jupiter deity) | |
| Ashlesha | Sarpa (snake god) | Rahu in Ashlesha = powerful; Jupiter in Ashlesha = weaker |
| Jyeshtha | Indra | |
| Abhijit | Included in 28-star count | Between Uttarashada and Shravana |

Power of Vedic Mantras
- "A donkey reading a Veda mantra-containing book gets Self-Knowledge — meaning even imperfect recitation has tremendous power"
- You don't need to know the meaning; correct intonation (svara/swara) increases effectiveness
- "Even if you read them with some errors, Vedic mantras are so powerful they will only bring good"
- No risk: If you select the wrong nakshatra, you still get a good result (just not the specifically targeted result)
Special Nakshatras from Moon (Counting System)
All counted from the natal Moon's nakshatra (Janma Tara) using the 28-nakshatra scheme:
| Special Tara | Count from Janma Tara | Purpose/Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Janma Tara | 1st (Moon's own nakshatra) | Seed of all; propitiate for general wellbeing |
| Karma Tara | 10th | How you apply your mind to work; for career problems |
| Manasa Tara | (specific count) | Mental state of mind; for anxiety, tension, mental peace |
| Abhisheka Tara | 26th | Power, coronation, authority; for politicians wanting to feel more powerful |
| Vainashika Tara | (specific count) | Destruction nakshatra; propitiate if feeling like everything is being destroyed |
- Example: If Moon is in Ashwini → Karma Tara = Magha (10th from Ashwini)
- "Abhisheka also shows how free or bound you are — power binds"
How to Find in JH Software
- Basics tab → Longitude and basic info section → right-click → "Special tara/Nakshatras from Moon"
- Always use the natal chart for selecting nakshatra, not annual or daily charts
How to Activate Yogas Through Nakshatra
- Find the nakshatra occupied by the planet in the key yoga
- If harmony between planet and deity = yoga functions well (Rahu + Ashlesha = good)
- If disharmony (Jupiter + Ashlesha = weaker) = propitiate that nakshatra's deity
- "To trigger a yoga, find the nakshatra occupied by the yoga's planet and propitiate that deity"
