Only the Navamsa is read. In each, look at planets in the Navamsa Lagna, in its trines, aspecting it by rasi drishti, and on both sides of it.

Chart 1: P.V.R. Narasimha Rao (PVNR)

• Lagna Taurus
• Sun in Capricorn, the 9th — in trine, and also aspecting the lagna by rasi drishti
• Ketu in Virgo, the 5th — in trine
• Saturn in Leo. Sun is in Saturn's sign and Saturn in the Sun's: parivartana
• Mercury in Aries (12th); Moon and Venus in Gemini (2nd) — kartari on the lagna

Reading

• A student read it first: Sun in trine gives administrative skill. Ketu gives computers and carrying on a tradition.
• Narayana: the Sun there is in exchange with Saturn, so it can also behave like Saturn — one who perseveres, works very hard, is a traditionalist, and gets fame as a result.
• Ketu in trine: good knowledge of computers and small instruments. The stanza's "thief and swindler" was taken as a joke at PVNR's expense.
• The student noted that Ketu is aspected by several planets (by rasi drishti: Moon, Venus, Jupiter and Rahu). Narayana: correct thinking, but secondary. Take the lagna as the reference point first.
• PVNR added the kartari: Mercury, Venus and Moon act almost as if in the lagna. Mercury: a good learner. Moon and Venus: the educationist — a teacher, acharya.

"When you see planets on both sides of lagna, having kartari on lagna, it is almost as if they are in lagna. So you will have some impact of Mercury, Venus and Moon being in lagna also."

Chart 2: A student's son (born 1988)

Birth Data

The boy is known to be very artistic. The Navamsa was opened to see whether Mercury and Venus influence the lagna.

Navamsa

• Lagna Scorpio, a water sign, with Venus, Ketu and Jupiter in it
• Moon in Pisces, the 5th — in trine, in a water sign
• Sun exalted in Aries — aspects Scorpio by rasi drishti. Scorpio is a fixed sign; the signs that aspect it are Capricorn, Aries and Cancer
• Mars in Sagittarius (2nd) and Mercury in Libra (12th) — kartari on the lagna
• Jupiter in Scorpio and Mars in Sagittarius: parivartana

Reading

• Venus in the lagna: critical-minded, reads between the lines, a good eye, good visual memory for charts, figures and forms. Venus in a water sign: very creative.
• Mercury reaches the lagna through the kartari. Mercury and Venus together: the artist who draws.
• Ketu with Venus: spirituality, religious leanings.
• Jupiter and Venus together: the two gurus sitting in the lagna. A student objected that they do not get along. Narayana: it depends on the sign in which they join.
• Jupiter and Ketu on the lagna: he will be involved in carrying on some tradition and will rise to a great position.
• Moon in trine in a water sign: teaching, singing, imagination. It may or may not manifest, but the potential is there.
• Exalted Sun aspecting: administration, a keen social worker.
• A student asked whether Mars and Mercury make a shubha kartari. No. But Mars is in parivartana with Jupiter and acts like Jupiter, and on that footing it becomes one.
• About 7 of the 9 planets influence the Navamsa Lagna. Such people are gifted. Things come to them almost effortlessly.

Chart 3: Bill Gates

Birth Data

October 28, 1955, 21:21:30 (rectified time), 8 hours west of GMT, Seattle (122°W20', 47°N36')

Navamsa

• Lagna Taurus with Jupiter in it
• Sun in Capricorn, the 9th — in trine, and aspecting the lagna by rasi drishti
• Mercury and Ketu in Leo (4th), Rahu in Aquarius (10th)
• Nothing in the 12th, so no kartari from the 2nd and 12th

Reading

• The main influences are Jupiter and the Sun — Jupiter above all, because it is in the lagna.
• Sun: good administration.
• Jupiter: knowledge of a wide variety of subjects and depth in one. "Jack of a lot of things and master of one." In the lagna it gives wisdom and the right judgment — he makes the right call.
• That judgment is not confined to matters of dharma. PVNR: it is a natural ability that comes as a blessing from past dharma, and it works in all areas of life. He can still make mistakes.
• He is good at marketing and is a good businessman. That is Mercury. Mercury is in the 4th, and with Rahu in the 10th there is a kartari on the lagna from the 4th and 10th. Mercury also gives argala.
• Argala takes effect only in the dasa of the planet concerned. Rasi drishti is permanent.

Chart 4: Pope John Paul II

Birth Data

May 18, 1920, 17:30, 2 hours east of GMT, Wadowice, Poland (19°E30', 49°N53'). Narayana called the chart speculative: the time is his own and differs from the published data-bank time.

• Lagna Scorpio, a water sign, with Mercury in it
• Saturn in Cancer, the 9th — in trine
• Moon in Pisces, the 5th — in trine
• Jupiter in Sagittarius (2nd); Venus and Ketu in Libra (12th) — a shubha kartari on the lagna

Reading

• Mercury in the lagna: a good businessman and a good learner. The class notes add: a good learner of the occult.
• The kartari of Jupiter, Venus and Ketu: Jupiter and Ketu on the Navamsa Lagna show one born to spread a parampara. The student's son has the same three planets, but in the lagna itself.
• Saturn in trine: very hard-working, disciplined, rises to fame, a traditionalist.
• Water-sign lagna: creative, compassionate.
• Moon in Pisces in trine: a good teacher, compassionate (class notes).
• Moon and Mercury in trine: acting ability, the classical combination. A student confirmed he had been an actor before he became Pope.
• Venus with Ketu (religious leanings, initiation into a religious order — Part 9): obvious in this chart.
• Tapasvi Yoga (Saturn aspecting Venus and Ketu — Part 9): Narayana said the Pope has it. The correction came at once: "Not exactly, no." Saturn is in Cancer and Venus and Ketu in Libra, and Cancer does not aspect Libra by rasi drishti. A link between Cancer and Libra was then offered (the term is garbled on the recording), so the three planets are connected, but the yoga as the stanza states it is not formed.
