Sudarshana Chakra Dasha of D-12 — A Mother's Illness

Year or Month? Ask How Long It Lasted

PVNR first asks how long the illness lasted.

• A one-week illness may not be the theme of the year. The annual dasha may not show it. The month that contains that week will show it prominently.
• Two months of serious illness is a main event of the year. It must show in the annual chart.
• So the scale of the event decides whether to open the year, the month, or a 2½-day period.

The Dasha of the Year

• Open the Sudarshana Chakra Dasha of D-12, the chart of parents.
• Year running: October 21, 2004 to October 22, 2005.
• Lagna Chakra: Libra. Chandra Chakra: Leo. Surya Chakra: Scorpio.
• Read the entry chart of the year (the chart for the start of the dasha) in D-12.

What Each Chakra Shows

• Lagna: what the native does regarding his parents, how he acts.
• Chandra: how he perceives and feels what is happening to them.
• Surya: Viśvadharma — what the world, what God, does to him regarding his parents.
• That the mother fell sick is seen first from the Surya Chakra. How he took it is seen from the Chandra Chakra.

Mother = 4th from the Dasha Sign

• Surya Chakra is Scorpio. The 4th from Scorpio is Aquarius.
• Take Aquarius as lagna in the entry chart to see how the year goes for the mother.
• The student had read everything from Scorpio. PVNR corrects him: from Scorpio you see yourself; for the mother take the 4th from it. His count of good and bad planets should also have been made from Aquarius.
• 4th from the Chandra Chakra sign shows how the mother feels; 9th from it shows how the father feels.

Ashtakavarga of the Year

• For the mother, the Ashtakavarga is recomputed with the 4th house as lagna (Capricorn, the 4th from the D-12 lagna Libra). The scores change by 1 or 2 at most. It does not matter much, because the numbers are read only as large or small.
• Planets in the entry chart and their own Ashtakavarga scores: Moon in Cancer 4; Mars and Venus in Gemini 5 and 4; Mercury in Aries 6; Sun in Scorpio 4; Saturn in Leo 3 ("low but good enough for Saturn").
• No planet is very weak. Only Mercury stands out as strong, so his results dominate — good or bad.
• From Aquarius, Mercury owns the 5th and the 8th: time with children and happiness from them; sudden problems, anxieties and tensions.
• Houses from Aquarius: the 3rd and the 5th dominate. 3rd — travel, initiative, determination in the face of trouble. The 5th is the strongest with 37 — a lot of time with children.

Subjective Reading from Aquarius

• Rahu, co-lord of the lagna, is in the 6th house, Cancer, with the 6th lord Moon. (A student first names Saturn, who is in the 7th in Leo; PVNR takes Rahu.)
• Lagna lord joined with the 6th or 8th lord shows disease, worries, quarrels, obstacles to be overcome — enmity, with a person or with a disease.
• Lagna lord in the 6th: something you are doing gets you into the problem. It is brought upon oneself.
• The two planets are Moon and Rahu. Rahu eclipses the Moon; the Moon is Rahu's worst enemy, more than the Sun or Jupiter. Normally the Moon with Rahu is destroyed. Here the Moon is in his own house, so it is a long fight, not one that ends quickly.
• Jupiter and Ketu are in the 12th house, Capricorn, and aspect Moon and Rahu by graha dṛṣṭi (the 7th aspect).
• 12th house: hospitalisation, or confinement to bed at home. Jupiter there: a learned, wise person taking good care of her.
• Jupiter owns the 2nd and 11th from Aquarius. He is a functional malefic but has no nefarious agenda toward the mother, unlike the 6th lord Moon or the 8th lord Mercury. His graha dṛṣṭi can resolve the tug of war between Moon and Rahu.
• The stress on the 6th and 12th houses shows sickness and confinement during the year.

Food Poisoning

A student brings up food poisoning, from the opening of the class.

• Rahu is kāraka for food poisoning, but he must link with the 2nd house: be in it, aspect it, or aspect its lord.
• Here Rahu in Cancer aspects the 2nd house, Pisces (his 9th aspect), and the 2nd lord Jupiter in Capricorn (his 7th aspect). So it is possible.
• Because Rahu is lagna lord, it is something she brought upon herself.

A Debilitated Planet Does Its Duty Without Hope

Jupiter in Capricorn is debilitated.

• Exaltation is hope and optimism. Things happen coolly and easily.
• Debilitation is doing your duty because you have to — a little depressed, not confident, but still doing it. Things are more difficult, more depressing and slower.
• The doctor or wise person helping her is not very hopeful, yet keeps at it.
• An exalted Jupiter would have said: this will go away, I will tell you a mantra, let us do it.

"Debilitation is kind of like doing your duty because you have to, even though you are not very optimistic and slightly depressed. Still, you just keep doing."

Jupiter with Ketu — the Headless Approach

• Ketu has no head; Rahu has the head. Ketu is the planet of intuition.
• The headed approach: this is the diagnosis, so this is the medicine, so she recovers.
• The headless approach: go by intuition — "let's just do this, it may work."
• Jupiter with Ketu: the help she gets comes by intuition, not by a firm clinical diagnosis or a clear procedure.

Chandra Chakra (Leo) — How the Native Feels

• Saturn is in lagna, Leo — his maraṇa kāraka sthāna. It shows sadness. He owns the 6th and 7th from Leo: sadness over obstacles and relationships in the parental environment.
• Moon and Rahu are in the 12th from Leo; Jupiter and Ketu in the 6th.
• Moon, kāraka of mother, in the 12th: a perception of loss — missing her, worrying about her. Not loss in the final sense.
• Lagna lord Sun in the 4th, Scorpio: through the year his thoughts are on the mother more than the father.
• A student offers "Moon with Rahu, Moon being the universal mother". PVNR: possible, but that is approximate logic. Use the dasha sign.

Moon in the 12th Is Not Death

A student asks: knowing the event we call it a partial loss. Without knowing, could it be total loss?

• Total loss is not read from there.
• The 12th shows loss, compromise, something given up. He gave up maternal happiness for a while. Nothing more.
• For a death, take the lagna of the mother (or father) and see whether mārakas and māraka sthānas are activated in the year.
• Here, from the mother's lagna the 6th and 12th dominate, not the 7th and 8th.

"If there is a loss of mother in that sense, it shows as some māraka sthāna being activated. That's not seen here. All we see is the 6th house is really strong, showing sickness."

• The student had counted planets and looked at nakshatras but done no subjective reading. PVNR: do it — that is where the insight comes from.

Illness or Death? Rajiv Gandhi's D-12 and Indira Gandhi's Assassination

PVNR tests the rule on a chart where the mother did die in the year.

The Dasha of the Year

• Sudarshana Chakra Dasha of D-12. The year began on August 20, 1984 at 1:19:58 PM.
• Lagna Chakra: Taurus. Chandra Chakra: Gemini. Surya Chakra: Capricorn.
• 4th from Capricorn is Aries. Aries is the mother's lagna for the event.
• 4th from Gemini is Virgo, for how she feels it. A death must show from both.

From Aries (Surya Chakra)

• Venus, lord of the 2nd and 7th, is in lagna, Aries. He is the māraka.
• Lordship of the 2nd and 7th alone does not kill. If it did, there would be a death every year.
• The māraka must associate with a malefic: sit in a malefic's sign, be aspected by a malefic, or be joined by one. Venus by himself is a benefic.
• Venus is in Aries, a violent sign ruled by Mars.
• Mars and Ketu, the two lords of the 8th (Scorpio), are in Aquarius — the bādhaka sthāna, the 11th from a movable sign. They are the planets of sudden, violent events.
• From Aquarius they have rāśi dṛṣṭi on Aries and on Venus (a fixed sign aspects the movable signs other than the one next to it).
• Saturn and Mars are in parivartana: Saturn in Mars's Aries, Mars in Saturn's Aquarius. Saturn sits with Venus, so in effect Mars afflicts Venus.
• Saturn shows a servant. In exchange with Mars he acts like Mars — a servant acting as a soldier, a professional killer.
• The lagna and 8th lord Mars afflicting the 2nd and 7th lord Venus in lagna is a māraka combination. Death of the mother in the year is possible.

"Saturn is in Mars' house, Mars is in Saturn's house. Because of that exchange, Saturn will actually act like Mars. A servant is actually acting like a soldier, basically like a professional killer."

From Virgo (Chandra Chakra)

• Lagna lord Mercury is in the 7th, Pisces, with the 7th lord Jupiter. Māraka again.
• PVNR adds that the Lagna Chakra shows it too.

Why the Death Was Violent

• Her own bodyguards shot her as she walked in a garden.
• A death that violent and unexpected needs Mars and Ketu. Without Mars, a violent death of the mother would not be expected in that year.
• Other combinations can bring death: Saturn or another malefic with the māraka, or the 2nd and 7th lord in the 8th or the 3rd.
• This is one technique among many. Every technique that points to the event should also show the violence.

The Rule

• From the lagna of the mother in the year's Sudarshana Chakra, look for māraka combinations.
• If there are none, a loss seen in the chart is an ordinary loss, not a fatal one.

Monthly Drilldown — The Month of the Mother's Illness

A student asks to go one level down on the first chart.

• The illness began on July 19, 2005. PVNR takes the month July 21 to August 21, 2005, through all of which she was sick.
• Read the entry chart of that month (the antardasha) in D-12.

Surya Chakra of the Month: Pisces → Mother from Gemini

• Monthly Surya Chakra: Pisces. The 4th from it is Gemini.
• Lagna lord Mercury is in the 12th, Taurus: giving things away, hospital, confinement, not being able to function fully.
• Ketu is in lagna. He is lord of the 6th, Scorpio — the lord of the house of disease sitting on the head.
• Ketu tests the body to the extreme. He holds that there is no point in living, just get moksha. When Rahu or Ketu give a problem, it is a serious one.
• Ketu is debilitated in Gemini. A student objects that a debilitated 6th lord is good. PVNR: a debilitated planet in lagna is not. The lagna is hammered by a depressed planet who does not want to give her good health.
• Saturn and Venus, lords of the 8th and 12th, are together in the 4th, Virgo. That could have been a Vipareeta Raja Yoga, but it falls in a quadrant, not in a dusthāna. So it is not good for the 4th: little happiness.
• Bottom line: Rahu–Ketu on the lagna.

The Same Planets Repeat

• In the annual chart Rahu and Ketu were on the 6th–12th axis, showing disease.
• In the monthly chart the same Rahu–Ketu associate with the lagna and the 6th lordship.
• That repetition marks the month in which the year's problem comes.

"Look for combinations or yogas in the natal chart. Look for their repetition in the annual chart. Look for yogas or special combinations in the annual chart. Look for their repetition in the monthly chart."

• The same holds one level down: monthly chart to the 2½-day chart.
• If the year shows a chance of a problem, go through each month to find the one in which it can occur.

Chandra Chakra of the Month: Leo → Mother from Scorpio

• Surya shows the opportunity given to the mother this month — the opportunity to be sick and confined. Chandra shows the feeling.
• Monthly Chandra Chakra: Leo. The 4th from it is Scorpio.
• One lagna lord, Mars, is in the 6th, Aries: fighting.
• The other lagna lord, Ketu, is in the 8th, Gemini: problems.
• The 8th lord Mercury is in the 7th, Taurus. 8th lord in the 7th, or 7th lord in the 8th, is a māraka combination that shows death.
• Death is not said from a monthly chart alone. The natal chart must show it, the annual chart must show it, and the monthly chart must show it. The annual chart did not.
• So the reading is death-like suffering, not death.
