Case Study — Bank Manager Threatened With a Lawsuit

Birth data (read out in class): 16 September 1963, 10:40 AM IST (5h30m east of GMT)
Lagna: about 3° Scorpio. Moon: 10°07' Leo, in Maghā.
Class date: 27 November 2010. Running Rahu mahādaśā, Rahu antardaśā.

The situation (sent in by a student): the native is a bank branch manager. A large client phoned to have his gold deposit sold to clear a loan; she sold it, and he came in that evening and signed the papers. The gold rate then rose. He now says the gold was sold before he signed and that he was forced to sign, and threatens a police complaint. She asks whether a court case is coming.

The student's own reading, sent for confirmation: tension and loss of her superiors' support until the first week of December; marginally better till 24 January; after that she fights back. He advised worship of Durgā for Rahu. He doubted her 1-carat ruby, because Sun is in the 8th of this year's Tithi Praveśa chart.

Career Confirmation (D-1 and D-10)

D-1 (Scorpio lagna):

• 9th lord Moon and 10th lord Sun are together in the 10th house, Leo.
• Sun is 10th lord in the 10th with dig-bala. (Offered by a student; the teacher accepted it.)

D-10 (Leo lagna):

• Sun and retrograde Saturn are in the 10th, Taurus.
• Saturn is 6th lord in the 10th → routine work. Starting as a clerk in a bank is quite possible.
• Sun is lagna lord in the 10th with dig-bala → a managerial, governing post.
• 10th lord Venus is with Jupiter in Gemini, a sign of Mercury. So Jupiter (finance) and Mercury (accounting) both act on the 10th lord.
• Sun = "like a king, sit back and delegate tasks". Venus = plan everything carefully and go through every detail. Both are present → authority together with close, detailed management.
• "Somebody who started as a clerk or something and then grew into a manager does make sense."

A10 in D-10 — the Work Environment

• Banks, accounting and that whole environment belong to Mercury.
• The teacher reads A10 of D-10 at 15° Capricorn. Mercury is at 12°21' Cancer in D-10, opposite it: a 97.8% graha dṛṣṭi on A10.
• Next largest influence on A10: Jupiter, 87%. Mercury = counting and calculation; Jupiter = a lot of money.
• Mars sits in Capricorn, but by longitude he falls in the 12th from A10, so he does not count.
• Mercury on A10 can show the press, communications, or banks where accounting is done. With Jupiter beside it, a banking environment.

"10th lord is how you apply yourself in the work, and A10 is the environment in which you work, the tangible environment in which you work."

• Here the 10th lord is Venus: she worries over every detail and has everything planned out.
• The recording renders "A10" as "8th house" in this passage. It is A10: the 97.8% figure is the one just measured on A10, Mars is in the sign of A10, and Mercury in Cancer does not aspect the 8th house (Pisces) at all.

Vimśottarī: How Big Is the Event?

First decide the scope.

• If it costs her the job, it belongs to the whole mahādaśā.
• A lawsuit fought for a couple of years and won is an antardaśā event.
• A few threatening calls and nothing more is a 4–5 month matter — a pratyantardaśā.

"Not every event has the same scope. Some events affect whole life. Some events affect a big period."

Rahu daśā and antardaśā (read in D-10, Leo lagna):

• Rahu is 7th lord in the 7th (Aquarius). The 7th can show own business.
• She is in service. From the 6th house (service) taken as lagna, Rahu is the 2nd lord in the 2nd — a māraka. Rahu daśā as a whole is a problem for the service career.
• The earlier Mars daśā was good: Mars is in the 6th house of service, yoga-kāraka for Leo lagna and a friend of Sun.
• Rahu, a malefic, sits in the 7th: if she wants a business of her own, this is the time for it.
• In the Rāśi chart Rahu is in the 8th: a sudden development, tension.

Rahu–Rahu–Moon pratyantardaśā (20 September – 10 December 2010):

• Moon is debilitated in the 4th house of D-10 (Scorpio), the house of peace of mind.
• He is the 12th lord (losses, compromises) in the 4th → loss of mental peace.
• From Rahu, counting in reverse ("Rahu's world is reverse"), Moon is again in the 4th, and is the 8th lord. Either way a dusthāna lord in the house of comfort.
• Moon is the kāraka of mental peace, debilitated in the sukha-sthāna, in an evil sign. → anxiety, confusion, lack of direction.

Rahu–Rahu–Mars pratyantardaśā (next):

• From lagna: Mars is yoga-kāraka in the 6th. Good for the job. Some fighting, but successful fighting.
• From Rahu (reverse): 4th and 11th lord in the 2nd. Not great, but no fall.
• She will not lose or leave the job in this period.

Rahu–Jupiter antardaśā (after that):

• Jupiter is in the 11th, aspects the 7th by graha dṛṣṭi, and is the 8th lord of change.
• He is more likely than the present periods to move her — a change of job, contracting, independent consulting.

Verdict from the daśā:

"This Rahu-Rahu-Moon, Rahu-Rahu-Mars is unlikely to destabilize the career. It will cause problems. There will be some tremors, but not an earthquake in her career."

Since it is a short-term matter, go to the annual chart.

Tithi Praveśa 2010–11 (6 October 2010)

Rāśi of the year (Aquarius lagna):

• Sun (19° Virgo), Mercury (11°) and Saturn (14°) are in the 8th. Saturn afflicts both.
• Hora lord of the year is Saturn. He is in the 8th with the 8th lord (Mercury) and with Sun, his enemy and a māraka (7th lord).
• Not a good year. Health can suffer unexpectedly.
• 10th lord of the year's Rāśi is Mars, and he is lagna lord in lagna in the year's D-10 → no fall in career.

D-10 of the year (Aries lagna):

• Mars, Rahu and Venus are all in Aries. By longitude Mars is in the 1st house; Rahu and Venus fall in the 12th.
• Lagna lord Mars in lagna is the saviour.
• Venus is the māraka (2nd and 7th lord); Rahu is the bādhaka lord. The two together in the 12th of loss, in an inimical sign of Mars — this is the one bad combination.
• Sun and Jupiter are in Scorpio. By longitude they are in the 7th, not the 8th. Both are functional benefics (5th and 9th lords). Even if a small time error put Jupiter in the 8th, it would show sudden changes that are good.

"There are no serious bad combinations here, a combination that will make you say, okay, she is going to lose job, there is a big fall in the career, nothing like that."

"My feeling is she has nothing really to worry. Things are going to be fine."

• Things get steadily better; the matter is settled by about the third week of February, if not earlier.
• The coming Vimśottarī pratyantardaśā of Mars (6th house) asks for some fighting. The Tithi Praveśa chart does not show much fighting. Combining both: the client may threaten and not do much.
• The student's three windows (till early December, till 24 January, after that) match the year's Moon and Mars periods.

What the site's charts show differently: the class places Rahu in Aquarius in the natal D-10; the site's node is a fraction of a degree lower and falls in Capricorn. The site's engine puts the tithi return at 3:34 PM IST on 6 October 2010 with Pisces rising in D-10; the class chart has Aries rising, which needs a moment a few minutes later. The annual chart on the page is cast for 3:40 PM so that it matches the class.

The Ruby and the Finger

• She wears a 1-carat ruby. The student doubted it because Sun is in the 8th of the Tithi Praveśa chart.
• For rings ignore the Tithi Praveśa chart. Go by the natal chart.
• Sun is 10th lord in the 10th in Rāśi and a friend of the lagna lord; in D-10 he is the lagna lord himself, in the 10th. Ruby is good for her career, the managerial career above all. She keeps it.
• One point against: Moon is in Maghā nakshatra. "From that point of view it is not a good ring. But overall it is a good ring to wear."

Which finger:

• The common scheme: index = Jupiter, middle = Saturn, ring = Sun, little = Mercury.
• The teacher's scheme — the fingers are the four puruṣārthas: index = mokṣa, middle = artha, ring = dharma, little = kāma.

"It's not really Saturn finger, it is Artha finger, and Sun is the one giving Artha in this chart."

• Sun is the 10th lord and in the 10th of D-10 → right-hand middle finger is best. The ring finger is also acceptable.

Propitiation

• Durgā — the student's recommendation ("Om Dum Durgāyai Namaḥ") stands. Rahu daśā runs for a long time, with a chance of losing the job or giving it up for a business; Durgā or Caṇḍī makes that passage smooth.
• The larger reason is not career. Rahu is in the 8th in Rāśi — "always very bad": accidents, sudden health complications. For that Durgā is very good. If she picks one deity, it is Durgā.
• For career she needs nothing more. If she wants, an Āditya stotra or a simple Sun mantra ("Om Sūm Sūryāya Namaḥ").
• Add one suggestion: the period favours a business of her own built on her expertise. She should explore it instead of staying in service.
