BPHS Ch.15 Verses 10–12 — Vehicle Timing (12th & 24th Year), D16 Shodasamsa & Critical Distinction: 4th House vs 4th Lord vs A4
Verses 10–12 (vehicle timing, possibly spurious but instructive). Verse 10: 4th lord in 11H + Venus in 12H → vehicle in 12th year. Logic: 4th lord in 11H = 8th from 4th = unexpected gains for 4H; Venus (karaka) in 12H. Verse 11: 4th lord + 10th lord together + 4th lord exalted in D16 or D9 → vehicle in 24th year. D16 (Shodasamsa) = primary divisional chart for vehicles; 4th lord exalted here confirms vehicle quality. Verse 12: Parivartana between 4th lord and 11th lord (exchange) → vehicle in 12th year. 11H = desires fulfilled; exchange directly links comfort (4H) with gaining (11H). General closing verse: "Shubham shubhatve bhavasya" — benefic on house → good results; malefic → bad results. Parashara explicitly says these combinations are examples only. Critical teaching on 4H vs 4th lord vs A4: 4th house = subjective comfort/happiness from the vehicle; 4th lord = attitude toward vehicular comfort; A4 (Arudha of 4th) = the actual vehicle as seen by others. Example: A4 with Saturn = ordinary car (others see Hyundai, not BMW); 4th house benefics = person loves and feels proud of that ordinary car. Inverse: A4 with Jupiter = others see grand vehicle; Saturn on 4H = person is never satisfied with it.

BPHS — 4th House (Continued): Specific Vehicle Timing Verses
Verse 10: 4th Lord in 11H (Debilitation?) + Venus in 12H → Vehicle in 12th Year
The verse is highly specific and PVNR found it problematic:
- Lagna sthana adhipa saumya = Lagna lord is a natural benefic
- Sukhe ye nija rashi ke = 4th lord in debility? (possibly in own sign)
- Karake vyaya bhavaste = Venus (karaka of vehicles) in 12th house
- Sukhe ye lava sam gate = 4th lord in 11th house
PVNR's verdict: Likely spurious or contains a transcription error. When testing which lagnas allow the 4th lord to simultaneously be in debilitation AND in the 11th house — the only possible case is Leo lagna with Ketu as the stronger 4th lord (Ketu debilitated in Gemini = 11th house from Leo). But then the lagna lord (Sun) is not a natural benefic. The combination appears contradictory.
Best interpretation (if the verse is accepted): 4th lord in 11th house + Venus in 12th + lagna lord is benefic → vehicle obtained very early in life (in the 12th year).
Reason 4th lord in 11th can indicate early vehicle:
— PVNR"4th lord in 11th house means the lord of the 4th is in 8th from the 4th house. 8th from any house shows sudden gains or inheritance for that house. So the lord, who wants to give good results to the 4th house, being there can show unexpectedly getting a vehicle."
Verse 11: 4th Lord + 10th Lord + 4th Lord Exalted in D16/D9 → Vehicle in 24th Year

- 4th lord (Bandhunathe) is with 10th lord (Karmeshena)
- 4th lord is exalted in its navamsa or D16 (Shodasamsa — the divisional chart for vehicles)
- Dvi chatva rimsha = 42? or 24? — likely 24th year
→ In the 24th year, the person will get/enjoy a good vehicle
Why D16?: Parashara designates Shodasamsa (D16) as the chart for vehicles and comforts. This is the appropriate divisional chart when looking at vehicles specifically.
Verse 12: Exchange of 4th and 11th Lords → Vehicle in 12th Year
An exchange (Parivartana yoga) between:
- 4th lord in 11th house AND
- 11th lord in 4th house
→ Same result: vehicle obtained in the 12th year
Why this combination works:
- 11th house = fructification of desires, getting what you want
- 4th house = vehicular comforts
- Exchange = both houses directly support each other's agenda
- 4th lord in 11th + 11th lord in 4th = a Parivartana yoga that strongly links the two houses
PVNR's speculation on "12th year": The specific year timings (12, 24) may be from a Rasi dasha system starting from the 4th house (or 4th lord's position). There may be a Narayana-like dasha variant where if the 4th lord is in the 11th house, the 12th year of life corresponds to a key dasha period.
General Principle (Verse End): Shubham Shubhatve
— PVNR"Shubham shubhatve bhavasya, papatve phalam anyatha"
Translation: If the house has benefic influence → indicate good results. If the house has malefic influence → indicate bad results accordingly.
This is Parashara's explicit statement that these combinations are examples only — the real principle is reading benefic/malefic influences on each house and house lord and drawing conclusions accordingly.
Key Distinction: 4th House vs. 4th Lord vs. A4
A crucial teaching from this lesson that applies to all houses:
