Narayana Dasha Applied — Lady's Chart (Adoption, Marriage, Current Dasha)

ND starts from: the 7th house, Sagittarius. It holds 2 planets (Venus, Mars); lagna holds 1 (Jupiter). So Narayana is in the 7th, and the progressed lagna is always the 7th from the dasha sign.

Sagittarius Dasha (Nov 1965 – Nov 1971, the first 6 years)

Angle 1 — Narayana in Sagittarius, the 7th house of desire

• With Venus (5th and 12th lord) and Mars (6th and 11th lord). Lordships are counted from the natal lagna Gemini, not from Sagittarius.
• Venus is in an enemy's sign (Jupiter's). Mars is in a friend's sign. Mars dominates.
• Mars as 6th and 11th lord is a functional malefic for Gemini lagna. A functional malefic gets Narayana's power.
• First conclusion: a period of some obstacles and difficulty. Mars is not too bad — he is in a friendly sign.

Angle 2 — progressed lagna

• The dasha started from the 7th, so in the first dasha the progressed lagna is the natal lagna itself, Gemini. Brahma is still in Gemini.
• Now the focus is not on Venus and Mars but on the houses from Gemini.
• 2nd house (family): its lord Moon is in the 12th with Rahu — eclipsed.
• Rahu and Ketu destroy any planet, Sun and Moon above all. Whatever house an afflicted Sun or Moon owns suffers.
• So: loss of family, or friction or a deficiency in the family. This holds for the whole life but is felt most in this dasha.
• Adoption cannot be said with certainty from this.

Angle 3 — entry chart

• The first dasha begins at birth, so the entry chart is the birth chart.
• She was adopted in 1970, before May. That is Aquarius antardasha (Nov 1969 – May 1970).
• Aquarius is the 9th house — father, protection — and holds Saturn, the 9th lord in the 9th.
• The 5th and 9th are Lakshmi sthanas: they show when and from where Lakshmi's blessings come.
• Saturn signifies adoption. Being accepted by someone else can come in the antardasha of the sign that holds Saturn.

Why Saturn Signifies Adoption

• Saturn was rejected by Sun. His father and mother did not take care of him. He was a rejected child, so he likes rejected children.
• Saturn stands for adopting a child, for taking care of a rejected child — datta.
• More widely he stands for the rejected and the downtrodden. They are the ones who have Saturn's blessings.

D-12: Why There Was a Parental Problem

Whether someone is adopted cannot be found from the Rasi Narayana Dasha. Look at the Dwadasamsa. This is read natally, not through the dasha.

• D-12 lagna is Leo. Sun, the lagna lord, is in lagna with Jupiter and Saturn.
• Jupiter is 5th and 8th lord; the 8th is the stronger, so he acts as 8th lord. Saturn is 6th lord and the bitter enemy of Sun. The lagna and its lord are afflicted.
• An afflicted D-12 lagna shows a problem in the relationship with father and mother. Usually a bad relationship; it can also mean she misses them or is away from them.
• Moon is in the 8th house, Marana Karaka Sthana, with Ketu — the weakest planet in the chart.

"If Moon is with Rahu or Ketu, or if Moon is in the 8th house, it is really bad. It shows a problem with mother — a very rough relationship with mother, or mother passing away very early in life."

• Ask such a person about the mother: 90% of the time either she died long ago or the relationship is troubled.
• Both karakas — Sun for father, Moon for mother — are afflicted. Apart from the 4th house, weak karakas show a basic problem.
• PVNR: the D-12 shows there is a problem. He cannot say with certainty from it that it is adoption; there may be principles he does not know.

Parashara's rule recalled here: in D-12 see mother from the 4th from Moon when Moon is stronger than lagna, and father from the 9th from Sun when Sun is stronger than lagna. In this chart lagna is strong, so the houses are counted from lagna.

Adopted Parents — Open Question

• Sun and Moon are the physical father and mother — Shiva and Parvati, from whom creation comes.
• PVNR was taught no principle for adopted parents. His thought: other karakas may apply, perhaps Saturn.
• Suggested experiment for those who know the lives: see whether the 4th from Saturn or the 9th from Saturn makes sense.

Example — Lady's Chart: Marriage and the Current Dasha

Aries Dasha (Nov 1980 – Nov 1988) — Marriage

She was married on November 27, 1987.

Angle 1 — Narayana in Aries

• Aries is the 11th house from Gemini: material gains and fulfilment of desires. (The 7th is desire; the 11th is its fulfilment.)
• Arudha Lagna is in Aries too: status and image build up in this dasha.

Angle 2 — progressed lagna Libra

• Narayana and Shiva are in Aries; Brahma is in the 7th from it, Libra.
• From Libra: lagna lord Venus and 7th lord Mars are together in the 3rd, a kama trikona.
• The 1st is you, the 7th is the partner. When lagna lord and 7th lord are connected, in that dasha you meet people — and can meet the husband. If not marriage, at least important connections.

Angle 3 — Libra antardasha (Jul 1987 – Mar 1988)

• In the entry chart of Aries dasha, Aries rises. Libra is the 7th house.
• A sign does not give marriage only because it is the 7th house. There must be strength or a yoga there — Venus, or the 7th lord, or the 9th lord connected.
• Mercury and Sun are in Libra. Venus is in Virgo in the 6th with Jupiter and Saturn. Mercury and Venus are in parivartana: each acts as if he were the other.
• So in effect Venus and Sun are together in the 7th. Sun is 5th lord (love, emotions), Venus is 7th lord (relationships). A Raj yoga between the 5th and 7th lords.
• The marriage fell in this antardasha.

To find the two or three months, go to Vimshottari pratyantardasha and the Tithi Pravesha chart. Narayana Dasha cannot go finer.

Gemini Dasha (Nov 2001 – Nov 2006) — the Dasha Running at the Time of the Class

Angle 1 — Narayana in Gemini

• Gemini is lagna: her very existence.
• Jupiter is there, within a degree of the lagna. He is 7th and 10th lord, and the karaka of dharma and dhi shakti. No Mahapurusha yoga, but Jupiter in lagna is always a great blessing.

"When he is closely conjoined with your lagna, the inner Guru is very close to your very existence. The inner Guru is guiding you very strongly."

• People with Jupiter in lagna are usually very dharmic.
• Jupiter and Ketu are the planets for astrology and any traditional knowledge.
• Her effort in this dasha goes into lagna's matters and Jupiter's matters. (Effort — not fruits. See Part 8.)

Angle 2 — progressed lagna Sagittarius

• Desire: Jupiter sits in the 7th from Sagittarius. She is hungry for dharmic and intellectual things. Jupiter is 7th lord natally too, so this desire is always there; in this dasha it is at its strongest.
• Moksha: the 7th lord Mercury is in the 12th (Scorpio) with Ketu, who is both 12th lord and the karaka of the 12th. The 7th lord of desire in the 12th = losing desires, overcoming them. (Had he been in the 11th, desires would be had and fulfilled.)
• Ketu in his own sign in the 12th is the house that stands out. If this were her natal lagna you would call her a very spiritual person at once. It is true of the current chart.
• From November 2001 the desire for moksha is very prominent. It does not mean she gets moksha. For spirituality these 5 years are more or less the peak of her life.
• Children: Mars (5th lord) and Venus (6th lord) are in lagna. 5th lord with a kendra lord is Raj yoga; 5th lord with a dusthana lord is bad — and the 6th is maraka to the 5th. The lord in lagna shows where the focus is: she is taken up with her children and takes good care of them. Mars is well placed in a friendly sign; Venus spoils it. Something about the children — their health or another matter — bothers her. The Saptamsa would confirm.
• Health: 6th lord Venus in lagna is not good for health. The 6th house (Taurus) holds Moon eclipsed by Rahu. Lagna lord Jupiter aspects lagna and protects — nothing serious, but health is not smooth. Areas: Moon (blood), Venus (kidneys, uterus).
• Remedy: tell such a person before the dasha begins to pray to Mahalakshmi (Venus) or to Lalita / Parvati (Moon).
• Courage: 3rd lord Saturn is in the 3rd (Aquarius) — confidence, getting what she wants. Natally the 3rd lord Sun is debilitated. Debilitation is the female energy: patience, perseverance. Such people have inner strength and persist, but do not come across as confident. In this dasha she is bolder than in her other dashas — but not as bold as someone who has Saturn in the 3rd natally as well.

"The natal chart sets the maximum and minimum. It sets the limits within which things can happen. And this dasha will show within those limits how things are swinging."

Angle 3 — entry chart of Gemini dasha (Leo rising); antardashas of 5 months each

Points made while reading these:

• Sagittarius: 4th lord = learning; 5th house = scholarship. Ketu is the planet of knowledge that comes down a parampara, guru to shishya. That is what she was receiving in these classes.
• Capricorn: Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu are good in the 3rd, 6th and 11th — not in the 8th and 12th. A planet in the 6th overcomes obstacles; to do so it may have to create some. An exalted yogakaraka is always good. Compared with the Sagittarius antardasha (5th house — things came easily), things now come with difficulty, but they come. The 6th is an artha trikona. Had the yogakaraka been debilitated he would be weakened; had he been in the 12th she would be giving things away.
• Pisces: Jupiter with Rahu is not good. "Rahu is like a big villain and Jupiter is like a priest. You send a priest and a villain into one room — the priest will take all the blows."
• Use: if you plan to take a risk in career, pick a good antardasha for it. Taking it in a bad antardasha fuels the bad trend.

ND for Divisional Charts and the High-Level Picture

• Every divisional chart gets its own Narayana Dasha — Navamsa, Siddhamsa (D-24), Dasamsa and the rest. Each gives the phases of that area of life: learning, career, money, marriage.
• It is still only phases — an antardasha here is about 5 months. But it is more focused: it is for you, not for everybody born 15 minutes either side.
• This is taken up in the next class. Everything in this class is the Rasi chart alone.

What Narayana Dasha is for:

• A very good high-level picture: what is good, what is bad, what kind of result to expect when. In every example the events fell into place like a puzzle.
• Not for fine questions. "Will I get the job offer this week or next week?" — use Tithi Pravesha.
• Within the 5 months, go further with annual charts or Vimshottari.

"High-level is what constrains the low-level. Just because there is a great Raj yoga in the low-level chart, it doesn't mean something great will happen that day. If the high-level picture doesn't permit that, it may not happen."

"So look at Narayana Dasha for the high-level picture and other techniques that we have learnt so far for all the low-level analysis."

Sahamas and Progressed Lagna Research

A student asked whether sahamas would pinpoint the time better. PVNR: maybe, maybe not — he has no experience of it. It is worth research.

• Sahamas are significant points in the zodiac for particular matters (Punya Saham — good deeds; Vidya Saham — learning; Vivaha Saham — marriage). They are computed from the longitudes of lagna and planets and are used above all in annual charts.
• Two experiments:
  • Take the natal sahamas and look for a correlation with the dasha progression.
  • Compute sahamas from the progressed lagna: put the lagna at its natal degree in the progressed sign. In the lady's Aries dasha that is 6°09' Libra. Look for links between these sahamas and the natal planets or the dasha pravesha planets.

"My gut feeling is there may be correlations. I haven't really done any experiments, but it's a very good topic for research."
