Lunar New Year Comparison (1900 vs 2005) — Hora Lord, Multiple Calendars & Mundane Patterns

Washington DC 1900 vs. 2005 Lunar New Year charts both show: Leo rising, Sun+Moon in watery 8th house, Moon as Hora Lord = water-related disaster (Galveston hurricane 1900; Hurricane Katrina 2005). Moon in 8H = Marana Karaka Sthana — the collective mind is helpless. A4 in 12H = people feel restless, lacking comfort. Hora Lord debate: traditional next-day sunrise is a corruption — true Hora Lord = planet ruling the exact moment of the Pisces New Moon conjunction. Multiple New Year charts: Pisces NY = general mood; Libra NY (Kartika Shukla Pratipada) = financial/business chart (Diwali tradition); Gemini NY = weather patterns. Each answers a different question. Town charts: events affecting the whole nation show in the national chart; town-specific events need the town's incorporation chart.

"All the different New Years in India are not contradictions. They are different charts for different questions. Not one calendar is right — they are all right for their purpose."

— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao

Mundane Chart Homework — 1900 vs. 2005 Comparison

Setup

Washington DC Lunar New Year charts:

  • 2005: April 8, 2005, 3:32:36 PM, Washington DC
  • 1900: March 30, 1900 (~3:30 PM), Washington DC

Both years had massive hurricane devastation:

  • 2005: Hurricane Katrina (New Orleans, Mississippi, Louisiana)
  • 1900: Galveston hurricane (near-total destruction of Galveston, Texas)

Similarities Found

Analysis of Similarities

8th house dominance:

  • 8th house = sudden changes, unexpected things (positive or negative)
  • "It can be you inherited $1 million. You never knew about your great-grandfather who left you everything."
  • But 8th also shows sudden loss, catastrophe
  • To determine which: look at sign (watery = water disaster; fiery = fire) and planets

Moon in 8th house = Marana Karaka Sthana:

  • Moon = happiness, emotion, mind of the people
  • 8th house = sudden problems, MKS for Moon
  • Moon does not want to be there — he is impotent in 8th
  • "Moon feels helpless in 8th. He can't do his job of giving happiness."
  • Moon is also a watery planet → watery sign + watery planet = water-related destruction

Hora Lord = Moon in both years:

  • Moon = mind of the people, masses
  • Moon in MKS = collective mind of the country is in a terrible house
  • "The ruler of the year was Moon, and he was in his death-inflicting house in a watery sign — that is the link."

A4 in 12th house:

  • A4 = tangible comfort and happiness
  • 12th house = loss, giving up
  • Interpretation: During these years, people felt uncomfortable, restless; "something is hanging over their heads"
  • Note: If A4 in 12th is in Venusian sign → "not that bad"; if in martial sign → severe

Lesson: If you see another year with Leo rising, Sun and Moon in watery 8th house, Moon as Hora Lord → predict water-related destruction for the country during that year.

The Chart Does NOT Predict Exact Location

  • Even knowing water disaster will hit the US, you cannot pinpoint "New Orleans" vs. "New York" from the national chart
  • For specific towns: use the town's incorporation chart (like New Orleans' chart)
  • "If it takes the attention of the whole nation, it shows in the national chart. A tornado in one town may only show in that town's chart."

New Orleans Research (Student Ted's Profection Study)

New Orleans Incorporation Date: August 25, 1718, 5:46 AM LMT, New Orleans

Using annual profection (30 degrees progressed per year = 1 sign forward per year):

  • Both 1957 (Hurricane Audrey — worst ever fatalities) and 2005 (Katrina) = 11 signs profected from natal Ascendant
  • Both ruled by Moon (11th sign from lagna involves Moon's influence)
  • 1965 (Hurricane Betsy) = 7 signs profected
  • 1900 (Galveston hurricane) = 8 signs from 1718 chart
  • 1915 unnamed hurricane = 4 signs profected

Pattern noticed: Profections landing in Moon-ruled signs and in houses related to Cancer/Pisces (water) correspond to hurricane years.

Recommendation: Use this chart (New Orleans 1718) with tithi pravesha technique (not dashas) to study each hurricane. Look at the TP chart active during each storm.

Hora Lord Debate — When Does the Year Start?

Traditional Practice (PVNR's Analysis)

  • Tradition takes: next day's sunrise hora lord as ruler of the Lunar New Year
  • Reason given: For civil celebration, people celebrate the new year at the next morning's sunrise
  • Weekday lord = hora lord at sunrise (first hora of a day always belongs to weekday lord)

PVNR's Position

  • "The traditional practice is likely a corruption"
  • The astrological year starts at the exact moment Sun-Moon conjunction occurs in Pisces (or Capricorn, etc.)
  • Hora lord at that exact astrological moment = true ruler of the year
  • Precedent: In personalized Tithi Pravesha charts, we always use hora lord at the exact time the tithi returns
  • "Hora is the main governor of the quality of any time period that is starting. Why would we ignore it here?"
  • The next-day calculation was "for celebrations, not for astrology"

Practical implication: When analyzing Lunar New Year charts for mundane predictions, use the hora lord at the exact time of the Pisces New Moon, not the next-day weekday lord.

Multiple Lunar New Years — Each Has a Purpose

There are as many New Years as there are signs (12 solar + 12 lunar potential New Years):

New Year TypeWhenSignPurpose
Indian Lunar New Year (Chaitra Shukla Pratipada)Sun-Moon in PiscesPiscesGeneral mood of people, collective happiness
Chinese New YearSun-Moon in CapricornCapricorn
Gujarati Financial New Year (Kartika Shukla Pratipada)Sun-Moon in LibraLibraFinancial matters, business, stock market
MeteorologicalSun-Moon in GeminiGeminiWeather patterns
(Various signs)VariousDefense, spirituality, politics, etc.

Why Pisces for general mood?

  • Pisces = 12th house = sign of Maharishi, bliss, tranquility, peace
  • "If you want tranquility, Pisces is the sign. If you want aggression, it would be Aries."

Why Libra for finance?

  • Libra = 7th house of natural zodiac = business, commerce, markets, desire, value exchange
  • "Libra is the sign of the marketplace. Business is Libra."
  • In Gujarat, tradition: on Diwali (Kartika Shukla Pratipada = Libra new moon), close accounts, open new books → This practice preserved the financial New Year chart tradition

Why this matters:

  • Not one calendar is "right" — each chart answers a different question
  • PVNR used the Libra New Moon financial chart to predict: 2006 = good for stock market; November 2006–November 2007 = recession/bear market
  • "All the bifurcations and different New Years in India are not contradictions. They are different charts for different questions."

Lost knowledge: In the Panchasiddhantika tradition, all ministers, generals, financiers of a kingdom were seen from Sun-Moon conjunctions in different signs. "Because we are less intellectually capable than the rishis, we use only one now."
