BPHS Ch.24 — 8th Lord in Houses 4–6: No Mother/Property + Betrays Friends (4H), Dull Intelligence + Long-Lived + Sudden Wealth A8 in 11H (5H), Victor over Enemies BUT Full of Diseases — Viparita Rajayoga NEVER Applies to Health (6H)

Verses 88–90. The 8th lord in the 4th denies happiness from mother, house and land, though as 5th lord from the 4th he can make the mother herself fortunate; as the planet of sins in the 6th from the 11th he makes the native betray friends. In the 5th he dulls the intelligence and gives long life, and the wealth promised is sudden money, not a steady bank balance: he aspects the 11th, A8 falls in the 11th, and the house of speculation joins the house of pūrva-puṇya. In the 6th he gives victory over enemies by Viparīta Rāja Yoga but a body full of disease, because Viparīta Rāja Yoga never applies to health. Danger from water is traced to A8 in the 4th, a watery house, with the warning not to predict it from this alone; for the snakes the teacher says he can find no reason.

Key principle

When it comes to health, never look at Viparita Rajayoga. If 6th lord is in 8th or 8th lord is in 6th, if one of the lords of that bad house associates with another bad house, it is not a positive combination.

8th Lord in the 4th, 5th and 6th Houses

8th Lord in 4th House (Verse 88)

Results stated:

  • Mātṛ-hīno bhavet śiśuḥ — the child will be without mother
  • Gṛha-bhūmi-sukha-hīnaḥ — no happiness from house, from land and property, and no happiness in general
  • Mitra-drohī na saṃśayaḥ — he betrays his friends, lets them down, is dishonest with them; "there is no doubt"

Mother, house, land, happiness:

  • Residence, landed property, comforts and mother are all 4th house. The 8th lord there ruins them.
  • Seen from the 4th as lagna, the same planet is the 5th lord in lagna — a good combination for the mother herself. Parāśara reads from lagna instead, and denies happiness from mother.

"Mother may be a very successful person, very lucky person, but he may not be happy with mother. His relation may be bad."

Betrays friends:

  • The 9th is dharma; the 8th is loss of dharma. So the 8th is one of the houses of sins and adharmic acts. (The 6th shows the person's weaknesses; the 8th shows sins.)
  • From the 11th house of friends, the 4th is the 6th house. The planet that shows the native's sins sits in the house of obstacles, problems and enemies of the friends.
  • He creates problems for his friends, and in an adharmic way.

8th Lord in 5th House (Verse 89)

Results stated:

  • Jaḍa-buddhiḥ — dull, unmoving intelligence; a slow mind
  • Svalpa-prajñaḥ — very limited intelligence, very little discretion
  • Dīrghāyuḥ — long-lived
  • Dhanānvitaḥ — endowed with wealth

Dull:

  • The 5th is the house of intelligence. The 8th lord, who brings troubles and ups and downs, destroys it. Not smart, not a good scholar.

Long-lived:

  • The 8th lord shows troubles, but he also shows longevity. In a trine, the lord of longevity sits in the house of pūrva-puṇya; pūrva-puṇya comes to the support of the life.

Wealthy — how to read it:

  • From the 5th he aspects the 11th house of gains (graha dṛṣṭi, the 7th aspect). The 8th lord gives unexpected developments, so: unexpected gains.
  • Taking the 5th (pūrva-puṇya) as lagna, he is the 4th lord in lagna: some pūrva-puṇya relating to comforts.
  • From the 2nd house of wealth he is not strong. He has argala on the 2nd (he is in the 4th from it), but he is the 7th lord from the 2nd. He can give some wealth; it is not a strong indication of steady accumulation.
  • The 8th is the house of speculation and the 5th is pūrva-puṇya. A decent combination for a lottery or money that comes unexpectedly.
  • A8: the 8th lord in the 5th is in the 10th from the 8th. The 10th from the 5th is the 2nd. An ārūḍha cannot fall in the 1st or 7th from its own house, and the 2nd is the 7th from the 8th, so take the 10th from there: A8 is in the 11th. The 8th is sudden developments (also death); its ārūḍha in the 11th means sudden gains.

"When he says [wealthy], he is actually referring to that angle, not necessarily somebody who always had a big bank account and maintains a big bank account, but somebody who will suddenly get lot of money."

8th Lord in 6th House (Verse 90)

Results stated:

  • Śatru-jetā — victor over enemies
  • Roga-yukta-śarīraḥ — his body has many diseases
  • Bālye sarpa-jalād bhayam — in childhood, danger from snakes and water

Victor over enemies:

  • Like every other house, the 6th suffers from the 8th lord. Here that means the enemies suffer.
  • It is also a Viparīta Rāja Yoga. The planet gives enemies, tension and fighting, and the native wins at the end.

Diseases — Viparīta Rāja Yoga does not apply to health:

"When it comes to health, never look at Viparita Rajayoga. If 6th lord is in 8th or 8th lord is in 6th, if one of the lords of that bad house associates with another bad house, it is not a positive combination. So he has lot of diseases. He doesn't have a healthy life."

  • The teacher says he has stated this several times before. For the physical body, when there is viparīta there is no rāja yoga.
  • What it does mean: it will not be disastrous. "It means you won't die. … You will be fighting."

Danger from water:

  • A student raises the elements. The teacher lays the mapping out from the natural zodiac:
    • Dharma trikoṇas (1, 5, 9) — fire. Aries, Leo, Sagittarius.
    • Artha trikoṇas (2, 6, 10) — earth. Work accomplished is solid; it is there for people to take and use. Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn.
    • Kāma trikoṇas (3, 7, 11) — air. Desire is like air. Gemini, Libra, Aquarius.
    • Mokṣa trikoṇas (4, 8, 12) — water. Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces.
  • A8: the 8th lord in the 6th is in the 11th from the 8th. The 11th from the 6th is the 4th. A8 is in the 4th, a watery house. So there is a watery influence on A8, and danger from water is possible.
  • The caveat is the teacher's own:

"Just because you see 8th lord in the 6th house in a particular chart, don't predict this. This is just one way to look at it. He is just teaching one way after another, so he is just expanding our thinking."

  • It is not foolproof by itself. It needs another influence — Moon, or a watery planet, or a watery planet in the 3rd from ārūḍha lagna.

Danger from snakes:

  • Snakes are shown by Rāhu, but the verse speaks of the 8th lord in the 6th in general, irrespective of Rāhu. The teacher gives no reason:

"Actually, I am not sure. It just seems too specific. … I cannot think of any reason."
