PVNR skeptical: "Without Saturn (karaka for dogs), I don't see how this gives dog problems specifically. May be inauthentic verse." Viprita Raja Yoga summary: 6th-12th or 6th-8th exchanges give material success and triumph over enemies but health suffering is integral to the yoga. "The yoga is good but there is usually some pain involved." Practical approach for all Ch.17 combinations: (1) check if combination exists; (2) check functional benefic or strong karaka also associated; (3) check dashas — which dasha is running at the timing year? Conditions (all):
- Functional malefic in the 6th house (papa = functional)
- 6th lord is also with a functional malefic
- Saturn with Rahu (in any house)
→ Sarvadaroga samyutah = always accompanied by disease; a chronically sickly person
Note: No specific disease named — this is a generalized affliction indicating constant ill-health.
Mars in 6H + 6th Lord in 8H → Fever in 6th or 12th Year

- 6th lord in the 8th house
→ In the 6th or 12th year of life: significant fever (jwara) — possibly recurring (malaria, typhoid-like), or hospitalization-level illness
PVNR note: Mars in the 6th is normally considered good (Upachaya house, Mars gains strength there → material success, defeating enemies). But Mars also causes pitta/fever-type diseases. Having Mars in 6th means the person has enemies AND strong resistance — when disease comes, it is typically fever-type but recovery is faster.
Jupiter + Moon in 6H → Leprosy in 19th or 22nd Year
- Moon and Jupiter in the 6th house (Gajakesari yoga in 6th)
→ Leprosy (kushtha) in the 19th or 22nd year
PVNR's skepticism:
— PVNR"Moon and Jupiter are in the 6th house in 1 out of every 144 charts. Claiming all of them get leprosy in those years is clearly not right. There must be modifiers."
- If the 6th lord is also strongly afflicted, the result is more potent
- If a functional benefic (e.g., 9th lord) is also present and protecting, the result is significantly weakened
- Always look at what else is in/aspecting the 6th house before applying such a result
- PVNR's own chart has Jupiter-Moon in 6th → but also Mercury (6th lord itself acting as its own lord, in own sign) → protection from the combination
Rahu in 6H + Mandi in Quadrant + Lagna Lord in 8H → Tuberculosis in 26th Year

- Rahu in the 6th house
- Mandi (Gulika) in a kendra (quadrant)
- Lagna lord in the 8th house (nasharashi = house of destruction)

Logic: Rahu in 6th = chronic, obscure disease tendency; Mandi in kendra = malefic influence on key houses; lagna lord in 8th = native's own vitality undermined by 8th house influence.
6th and 12th Lords Exchange + Moon with 6th Lord → Spleen Disease in 29th or 30th Year

Important nuance: 6th-12th exchange is classified as a Viprita Raja Yoga — normally considered good for material success (winning over enemies, eventual triumph). However:
— PVNR"Viprita Raja Yogas give material success, but they can also bring suffering and health challenges. The yoga is good, but there is usually some pain involved."
When 11th lord is in 6th and 6th lord is in 11th: taking the 11th as lagna, there is a Parivartana between its lagna lord (11th lord) and its 8th lord (6th lord from chart) — that's a challenging Parivartana for gains.
Moon + Saturn in 6H → Blood Leprosy in 55th Year
- Moon and Saturn in the 6th house
→ Rakta kushtha (blood leprosy, reddish skin disease) around the 55th year (pancha pancha sat = 55)
Lagna Lord in Lagna + Saturn in Inimical Sign → Vata Disease in 59th Year
- Lagna lord in the lagna (strong self, good placement)
- Saturn in an inimical sign (Saturn weak or debilitated)
→ Vata roga (wind/vata disorder: arthritis, joint pains, nervous weakness) in the 59th year
PVNR interpretation: Disease happening in the 59th year is actually favorable — it means good health throughout most of life. The lagna lord in lagna = native's constitution is strong, delaying any disease until late age. Saturn in inimical sign = weak, so the vata problem is there, but it's postponed.

Karaka principle reinforced:
- Saturn = karaka for vata diseases → Saturn in inimical sign = those diseases more likely (afflicted karaka amplifies its bad significations)
- Mars = karaka for pitta/fever diseases
8th Lord in 6H + 12th Lord in Lagna + Moon with 6th Lord → Animal Attack in 8th Year
- 8th lord in 6th house

→ Danger/wound from an animal in the 8th year (vasuvarsha — 8 vasus = 8)
Sanskrit number-encoding: Ancient texts use indirect ways to express numbers:

- Adityas = 12 Adityas → means "12"
- Vedas = 4 Vedas → means "4"

- Saturn is in the 8th house from Rahu (so if Rahu in 6th, Saturn in lagna; if Rahu in 8th, Saturn in 3rd)

- In Navamsa, the 8th lord is with Rahu in either a trine or the 8th house
→ Granthi meha adi — gland problems (hormonal/pituitary) or urinary disorders in the 18th or 22nd year
PVNR's caution: If a functional benefic or the 9th lord is also present in the Navamsa's 9th house (trine), it modifies/protects against this result.
11th Lord in 6H + 6th Lord in 11H (Exchange) → Financial Loss from Enemies in 31st Year

- Taking 11th as lagna: its lagna lord is in the 8th from it, and its 8th lord is back in lagna — Parivartana between lagna lord and 8th lord = problematic for gains
- Taking 6th as lagna: 6th lord (6th from 6th) = exacerbation of the 6th house signification
Even without financial loss, there will be enmities, litigation, and rivalry during this period.
5th Lord in 6H + 6th Lord with Jupiter + 12th Lord in Lagna → Son Becomes Enemy

PVNR's wry comment: "Surya himself must have had this combination — his own son (Sun) is the enemy of children (blocks children's house)." Many in royalty have children who turn against them — this combination explains such situations.
Lagna Lord in 6H + 6th Lord in 6H → Dog Attack Fear in 10th or 19th Year
- Lagna lord in the 6th house
- 6th lord also in the 6th house
→ Dog bite or danger from dogs in the 10th or 19th year
PVNR's skepticism: This is too generic a combination to produce such a specific result without Saturn (the karaka for dogs) being involved. This verse may be inauthentic or require additional confirmers.

Key Principle: Modifiers Always Apply
At the end of this chapter, PVNR emphasizes:
— PVNR"Parashara himself, in earlier chapters, whenever he gave extreme results, he also gave modifiers. These disease combinations work as stated when there are no mitigating factors. Functional benefics in the same house, strong karakas, or the 9th lord protecting — all these modify outcomes."
