BPHS Ch.17 — Son Becomes Enemy, Lagna Lord in 6H + 6th Lord in 6H (Dog Danger), Viprita Raja Yoga's Health Cost & Practical Modifiers

Enemies — the 6th-11th Exchange, the Son as Enemy, Fear of Dogs

11th Lord in 6H + 6th Lord in 11H → Loss of Money through Enemies in the 31st Year

"Labheshe ripu bhavasthe, rogeshe labha rashige, ekatrimshat same varshe, shatru mula dhana vyayah"

• 11th lord in the 6th house
• 6th lord in the 11th house — a parivartana between the 6th and the 11th

→ Shatru mula dhana vyaya: loss of money on account of enemies, in the 31st year.

Reading it from each house:

• 11th as lagna (the house of gains): the exchange is between its lagna lord and its 8th lord. That is not a good parivartana. Gains suffer — a loss in that period, or no gains.
• 6th as lagna: the 6th lord is in the 6th from the 6th. Enmity is exacerbated.

What can and cannot be said from the combination alone:

"Whether there is financial loss due to conflict or not, you cannot just say based on this, but there will be some enemies and some enmities, some litigations or some rivalries."

Some problem from enemies is very likely, and gains may also be hit.

5th Lord in 6H + 6th Lord with Jupiter + 12th Lord in Lagna → The Son Becomes an Enemy

"Suteshe ripu bhavasthe, shashtheshe guru samyute, vyayeshe lagna bhavasthe, tasya putro ripur bhavet"

• 5th lord in the 6th house
• 6th lord with Jupiter
• 12th lord in lagna

→ Tasya putro ripur bhavet: his son becomes his enemy.

The reasoning:

• The 5th lord shows children; the 6th house shows enemies. The 5th lord in the 6th is by itself not good.
• Jupiter, the karaka of children, is with the 6th lord, the lord of quarrels.
• 12th lord in lagna puts the arudha of the 12th — the tangible loss — in the 2nd house, the family. A loss in the family.

"If you do not get along well with your son, it is a big loss in your family."

When all of these are together, the son himself becomes the enemy.

A joke, and he says so: Surya the planet must have had this combination in his chart — his son is his enemy. Then seriously: take royal charts, and plenty of people go against their father.

Lagna Lord and 6th Lord Both in 6H → Fear of Dogs in the 10th or 19th Year

• Lagna lord in the 6th house
• 6th lord also in the 6th house

→ Fear of a dog in the 10th or the 19th year.

The teacher doubts the verse:

• Among the planets the karaka for dogs is Saturn. The verse has no link with Saturn.
• The lagna lord in the 6th with the 6th lord is a fairly common combination, not a rare one.
• A student in the class has had no trouble with dogs. "Very good. Good for you."

"How you can arrive at fear from dog just based on that, it beats me. There has to be some Saturn involvement. So maybe this particular verse may or may not be authentic."

No Verse Is Applied Alone — Modifiers

This came up over the Moon-Jupiter leprosy verse, when a student said he has that very combination.

How Common the Combination Is

• Moon and Jupiter are together in 1 chart out of 12.
• Of those, 1 in 12 has them in the 6th house.
• So every 144th person born has Moon and Jupiter in the 6th.

"That is quite a high probability. And to believe that all of those will get leprosy in the 22nd and 19th year is not really very likely. So there are going to be some modifiers."

Where the Modifiers Come From

"At the end of the chapter, Parashara himself may indicate some modifiers. Even if he doesn't, in the previous chapters, whenever he gave excessively good or excessively bad results, he has given modifiers."

So look at:

• where the 6th lord is
• what other influences are on the house
• who aspects it

A functional benefic changes the result. Mars in the 6th was called bad. But if Mars is also the 9th lord — a functional benefic, the lord who protects — he may not give that much disease.

The Student's Chart

No birth data is given in class; only these placements.

• Aries lagna.
• In the 6th house: Jupiter, Moon, Mercury and Ketu, with Saturn's aspect on the house.
• Mercury is the 6th lord, in his own house. The student suggests Mercury is protecting.

The teacher's reading:

• "There is a lot going on." Several other planets dominate that house, and they may be the ones who give its results.
• Jupiter is the 9th lord. He modifies the result, and may even be protecting the native from the others.
• Saturn is the badhakesha (lord of the 11th from a movable lagna) and Ketu is the 8th lord (Scorpio). Those two are the more problematic.

"Any problems that you may get, they may be related to those planets rather than Jupiter and Moon."

Looking Ahead — the 7th House Chapter

The 6th house chapter took two or three classes: "This is just disease, disease, disease chapter."

"In the next class, we will take up the 7th house, which will be more fun. It is marriage, the success of marriage, the marital life. This is a long chapter. This has 40+ verses, and he even talks about the longevity of wife."

6th and 12th Lords in Exchange → Spleen Disease in the 29th or 30th Year

• 12th lord in the 6th house
• 6th lord in the 12th house

→ Gulma roga in the 30th year (trimshad varsha) or one less. The verse does not say one less than what, so it is one less than the number just given: the 29th.

Gulma is the spleen. It need not be the spleen exactly; it can be a disease in that region of the abdomen.

A student checks: is it the two lords together? No. It is the 12th lord in the 6th and the 6th lord in the 12th — an exchange.

A student asks: is this not normally a good combination? It is. A parivartana of the 6th and 12th is a Viprita Raja Yoga.

"These Viprita Raja Yogas are good materially. They will give you success, you will finally win over your enemies. But there can be some suffering also built into Viprita Raja Yogas."
