Student Chart: Druk Dasha Sagittarius (2003–2012) — Mars+Venus Raj Yoga in 9H, Mercury+Ketu in 8H (Karma+Jnana), Rahu with Moon (Confusion then Expansion)
A student’s chart (Gemini lagna, Jupiter in lagna, Moon exalted with Rahu) is read for her Sagittarius Druk Dasha, November 2003 to November 2012. Natally Sagittarius holds Venus and Mars, a Dhimanta yoga. The dasha lagna is Aries, the 5th from Sagittarius: Mercury and 8th lord Ketu in the 8th raise sadhana, chiefly Karma yoga; lagna lord Mars and 7th lord Venus form a Raja yoga in the 9th, so she works with others in dharmic activity; 5th lord Sun debilitated in the 7th gives humility in devotion; 4th lord Moon with the badhaka lord Rahu gives confusion of direction first and expansion later. The Dasha Pravesha Chakra of 2003 repeats the 8th-house theme. The next dasha, Virgo (2012–2021), strengthens the 12th from its lagna Capricorn in both charts, so inner detachment and progress come then. Two antardashas show how a factor seen in only one chart is not predicted.
Key principle
So there is some disturbance in the spiritual direction of the person, but at the end there is a big expansion of the spiritual direction of the person.
Example Charts
Example chart
Lagna: Gemini 3°21', Jupiter in lagna. Moon: Taurus 26°41', with Rahu.
Atmakaraka: Moon. Bhratrikaraka: Mercury. Moon–Rahu and Mercury–Ketu lie on the 6th/12th axis.
Druk Dasha: Sagittarius, November 2003 – November 2012. She has no specific question; she wants the dasha read.
Natal Chart — Influences on Sagittarius
- Sagittarius is the 7th house, and the 8th from the Moon.
- It holds Venus (5th lord) and Mars (6th lord): Dhimanta yoga. They aspect lagna and Jupiter in it, tying lagna, 5th and 6th together.
- The dasha activates the Dhimanta yoga. Nothing much beyond that.
Dasha lagna = 5th from Sagittarius = Aries.
Reading from Aries as Dasha Lagna
8th house (Scorpio) — Mercury with Ketu, who is the 8th lord:
- The 8th is sadhana, the hard work put in for spiritual progress. Ketu, karaka of moksha, there is always beneficial. Sadhana increases in this period.
- Asked what kind (the teacher warns this is not foolproof): Mercury is earth, so Karma yoga — service through action. Ketu is a fiery planet, so some jñāna.
- Sadhana is any effort directed at finding God: a ritual, a mantra, meditation, pranayama, detachment cultivated by vichāra, or selfless service of people, husband and children.
9th house (Sagittarius) — the dasha sign:
- Lagna lord Mars and 7th lord Venus together: a Raja yoga in the house of religion.
- The 7th is other people. She becomes outgoing and joins with others for dharmic activities. The class confirms she is more outgoing than two years earlier.
- 9th lord Jupiter is in Gemini, the 3rd — his maraṇa kāraka sthāna — yet he aspects the 9th by graha dṛṣṭi. A 9th lord aspecting the 9th gives strong dharma.
5th lord Sun, debilitated in Libra, the 7th:
- The 5th is the house of devotion. Exaltation is a state akin to excitement, debilitation a state akin to humility. In D-20 and spiritual matters a debilitated planet shows humility: humility in bhakti.
- A trine lord in a kendra, debilitated, is not a bad combination.
- The Sun is ego and aspects lagna by graha dṛṣṭi. Sun in the 7th makes a person authoritative with others. Debilitated, that tendency withdraws.
4th lord Moon, exalted in Taurus with Rahu — the one point of confusion:
- The 4th lord shows the spiritual direction and the sense of "I have the right way now".
- Rahu is the bādhaka lord from Aries and eclipses the Moon. That sense is disturbed a little.
- Rahu also goes beyond limits and is good for spiritual progress.
"There is some disturbance in the spiritual direction of the person, but at the end there is a big expansion of the spiritual direction of the person."
Dasha Pravesha Chakra of Sagittarius Dasha (November 2003)
Read from Aries:
- 8th (Scorpio): Venus and Mercury. Venus and Ketu (in Libra) exchange signs as 7th and 8th lords. Venus is bhakti, Mercury is karma. The natal Mercury–Ketu theme repeats: detached karma with a subtler understanding.
- 9th (Sagittarius): empty, aspected by Saturn and the Moon from Gemini. Not much by itself. But 9th lord Jupiter is in Leo, the 5th, a trine from the 9th. Dharmic activities increase, as the natal chart said.
- Lagna: Rahu in Aries, exchanging signs with Mars in Aquarius. First it is the bādhaka lord Rahu in lagna: doubting and questioning in religious matters. When the parivartana gives its result it is as though Mars were in lagna — Ruchaka yoga, a determined pursuit of spirituality.
The Next Dasha — Virgo (November 2012 – 2021)
Dasha lagna = Capricorn.
- Natal: 4th lord Mars and 5th lord Venus, the yogakaraka, are in the 12th. 12th lord Jupiter aspects the 12th. In the previous dasha Jupiter strengthened the 9th; now it is the 12th.
- Dasha Pravesha Chakra (November 2012): Mars in the 12th. 12th lord Jupiter is in the 5th, the house of purva punya, with Ketu, the karaka of the 12th. A graha mālikā runs from the 9th to the 12th.
- Reading: do not predict renunciation. Some detachment will certainly develop.
"My feeling is until 2012 there will be some slow progress, some effort. And after 2012, in the next coming 9 years, there will actually be more inner progress."
Antardashas
Each antardasha is nine months.
- Aries antardasha (from November 2006), lagna Leo. Natal: 4th, 5th and 10th strong. Entry chart: 3rd house strong, showing determination; Saturn and Ketu in lagna, which is good. Nothing striking.
- Cancer antardasha (from August 2007), lagna Scorpio. Natal: Mercury and Ketu in lagna — spirituality increases. Entry chart: Jupiter in lagna — wisdom; Saturn, Venus and Ketu in the 10th; Sun, Moon and Mercury in the 9th, with 9th lord Moon and 10th lord Sun together: Dharma-karmādhipati yoga.
- The natal chart from Scorpio does not repeat it. The 10th lord Sun is debilitated in the 12th; the 9th lord Moon is in the 7th with Rahu. Dharmic activity with other people, but no big karmas. Shown in one chart only, so it cannot be predicted with confidence.
PVNR's Assessment
- Sagittarius dasha: more dharmic activity and more sadhana, chiefly Karma yoga with some jñāna; outgoing, working with others; some confusion of direction, then expansion.
- Both this dasha and the next are eventful for spiritual progress.
- Up to 2012 it is effort. From 2012 to 2021 comes inner detachment and considerable progress.
