Chart Case: House Robbery — Read from the Tithi Pravesha Chart of the Year

Native: born June 3, 1965, 3:05 AM IST (birth data read out in class). Event: August 2, 2006. All the gold in the house was stolen. It was kept in a fire-safe vault; the robbers carried off the vault itself, with passports and important documents.

The whole reading is done on the Tithi Pravesha chart of 2006–07 and its Tithi Ashtottari dasha, not on the natal chart. Cast for the birth place, the Tithi Pravesha falls on May 30, 2006, about 8:33 PM IST: Sagittarius lagna, hora lord Mars.

Ruler of the Year

• Mars is the ruler of the year. He is in the 8th house with Saturn, the 2nd lord → something sudden concerning possessions.

Dasha: Jupiter–Rahu–Venus (Tithi Ashtottari)

Jupiter is lagna lord of the annual chart. Why should he give a loss?

Hora chart (losing gold is also losing financial resources; the placements below are those of Kashinatha Hora, Pisces lagna):

• Jupiter, lord of lagna and the 10th, is retrograde in Marana Karaka Sthana (the 3rd).
• Venus, lord of the 3rd and 8th, has graha drishti on him. A kendra or kona lord afflicted by the 8th lord is a duryoga. Jupiter and Venus give it.
• Jupiter stands for gold and religious articles.

Chaturthamsa (D-4) — immovable property and fortune; the gold in the house is seen here. Pisces lagna.

• Lagna has a grahana: Moon and Rahu together in it.
• Lagna lord Jupiter is with the 8th lord Venus in the 2nd: the same duryoga.
• Rahu is the 12th lord of loss, afflicted in lagna, afflicting the Moon, and (the teacher says) casting graha drishti on the Jupiter–Venus pair, which makes the duryoga worse.
• 4th lord Mercury is in the 12th.
• AL of D-4 is Taurus. Jupiter is in the 12th from AL: he is seen to have lost something, some immovable property. (A student noted Jupiter is in UL as well.)
• If Jupiter dasha is to give a bad event, Rahu antardasha is a good candidate: Jupiter wants to do auspicious things, Rahu inauspicious ones.

Rashi chart of the year (Sagittarius lagna, AL in Leo):

• Jupiter is lagna lord in the 11th from lagna. That does not make him a giver of gains.
• From AL he is in the 3rd. Benefics in the 3rd from AL give losses.
• The 3rd is the 12th from the 4th of property.
• He is lord of UL and A6.

Lagna and Arudha Lagna

A student thought houses from AL show only what people perceive. The teacher:

• AL is not what people mistakenly perceive. It is what people see. Houses from AL are the characteristics of the image projected in the world. In this period the image was that of someone who lost big, who kept so much gold at home without a security system.

"Lagna is the unmanifested potential and Arudha Lagna is the actual manifestation."

• Lagna is the intangible self, AL the tangible self. The robbery happened to the tangible self, so read from AL.

Could It Have Been Predicted?

• From the Rashi chart alone, no: only an indication of trouble, loss, material setback.
• With Hora and Chaturthamsa one can speak more confidently. A duryoga is a fall or setback. In Hora it is a financial setback. In Chaturthamsa it is a setback to the house or other immovable property.
• Had he asked about his house, a problem with the house could have been foreseen: lagna lord afflicted by the 8th and 12th lords.
• Rahu is cheating, not necessarily the karaka of robbery. For thieves entering the house and taking property, Rahu and Mars are the karakas. With care one might have got it, "but it's tough".

"Some problem with the house you could have seen, but robbery is very tough to exactly put your finger on it and say it is a robbery."

Recovery Prospects

• Sun, 6th lord in the 9th of D-4, shows no protection.
• Moon is the only candidate.
  • Rashi of the year: he is 8th lord, but he is in the 11th from AL, and he is lord of A11 and A5, which sit together in the 12th from AL. Their lord has gone to the 11th from AL. "The houses occupied from AL are more important" than the houses owned.
  • Hora: 5th lord with Ketu. Not good for finances.
  • D-4 (the key chart): 5th lord in lagna in a friendly sign, and in the 11th from AL where Jupiter was in the 12th. Rahu afflicts him, so he is not strong. If he overcomes Rahu, some recovery, or news of the whereabouts of the gold, is possible.
• Moon's period: February 8 to March 28 (2007). Other periods are unlikely.
• A student had already advised them, from the natal chart, to propitiate the Moon for peace of mind. The teacher: propitiate Durga in the February–March window.

"Usually once you lose gold, somebody robs your house, you won't get it back… If at all there is some chance, it is during February 8th through March 28th."

A Side Question on Marriage

About another chart (no data given): does the 7th lord in the 8th, or a running dasha of the 8th house or 8th lord, deny marriage?

• 7th lord in the 8th shows tension in married life. It does not show no marriage.
• A dasha of the 8th house or 8th lord is not conducive to marriage, but with other supporting factors it can happen.
• It can also show suddenness: a marriage nobody was planning.
• Without the full chart the teacher would not say more.

Chart Case: Job-Seeker (Student Chart, 1949) — Annual Dasamsa

Native: born June 13, 1949, 10:55 AM IST. The most often used student chart of the course. Question: when will he find a job? He had left a permanent job for a contract that was to be renewed. It was not: the contract ended on December 8, 2006.

Tithi Pravesha 2006–07: June 14, 2006, 5:52:30 AM. Hora lord Venus, so Venus is the king of the year. The annual Dasamsa lagna (Virgo) holds for 3.5 minutes either way, so the Dasamsa is used directly. Dasha: Tithi Ashtottari.

Rahu Dasha — the Contract Ends (Rahu–Moon)

All placements are in the Dasamsa of the annual chart (Virgo lagna).

• Mercury, lord of lagna and the 10th, is in the 5th with Rahu, aspected by Mars, Saturn and Ketu from the 11th. The 3rd lords (Mars, Ketu), 6th lords (Saturn, Rahu) and 8th lord (Mars) are all with him or aspecting him: a duryoga on Mercury.
• Rahu is 6th lord in the 5th. His agenda is service, but he is in the 12th from the 6th: loss of service.
• Contract work is seen from the 7th. From the 7th Rahu is in the 11th, the Hara-sthana, with Mercury, who is a maraka for the 7th. Rahu exchanges results with Mercury.
• A3 is in the 7th. Jupiter is lord of both A3 and the 7th, and Rahu is his arch-enemy.
• Rahu is in the 5th of recognition but gives no good yoga. No relief is expected while Rahu runs.

Venus Dasha — January 4 to March 15, 2007

• Venus is ruler of the year and 9th lord of the Dasamsa: a functional benefic.
• In the Rashi chart of the year (Taurus lagna) he is lagna lord. He is in the 12th from lagna (some travel or a move), but in the 2nd from AL, the house of money and status. He is well placed from AL.
• In the Dasamsa he is lord of AL and sits in the 8th from AL. Benefics in the 8th from AL give sudden gains, a sudden rise. (He is Ghati Lagna lord too, but the Ghati Lagna may not be accurate, so it is left out.)
• He occupies A6, A7 and UL. A6 is service, A7 is business: a mix of the two, so again a contract kind of position. UL there: some compromise — a distant place, travel, or a lower salary or contract amount.
• He is in the 4th from lagna and from the Moon, who is in lagna. Rahu afflicts the Moon by aspect; Venus aspects the Moon, and his argala on the Moon is auspicious. No malefic aspects Venus: only Jupiter and the Moon aspect him (both by rashi drishti in the cast chart). Venus is the second karaka of happiness after the Moon. He gives mental peace about the career.

• Until January 4: very unlikely.
• Jupiter antardasha: very likely.
• January 8–18 (Moon, who is in lagna): very auspicious. "Keep sending your resume and keep trying."
• Mars: not very favourable.
• January 23 – February 2 (Mercury): very favourable.
