Physical Death and A9 — the Father's Death in the 1999 TP

Tendulkar's father passed away during the 1999 World Cup in England; he flew back for the funeral. It happened in the Saturn daśā of that year.

The Rasi and Dvadasamsa of the Year

1999 TP, Libra lagna.

• Hora lord: Jupiter. The reading here turns on Saturn, the daśā lord, not on the ruler of the year.
• Saturn is in Aries with the 9th lord Mercury and the Sun, the significator of father. When the 9th lord or the Sun is afflicted by malefics in the rasi chart of a year, suspect something bad for the father. Here both are with Saturn.
• Dvadasamsa: the 9th lord of the rasi chart, Mercury, is in the 8th house, in a trine from Saturn. The 9th lord (or the 4th lord) in the 8th of D-12 = misfortune relating to that parent in that year.
• This shows unhappiness on account of the father. Is it death?

What Is Destroyed in Physical Death?

PVNR asks the class: house, lord, house arudha or lord arudha?

• Physical death is the destruction of māyā — so an arudha.
• A student points out that the intelligence is carried to the next life. The true intelligence carries over; what is gone is the physical, inanimate existence called "father".
• So it is the Kālapuruṣa's manifestation that is destroyed → the house arudha, A9, not L9.

The Death Combination from an Arudha

Take the arudha as lagna. The 8th from it is the house of longevity, the 7th the house of death.

• 8th lord in the 7th = a combination of death.
• 7th lord in the 8th = the same.
• 7th and 8th lords changing places is very inauspicious.

In This Chart (Dvadasamsa of the 1999 TP)

• A9 is in Aries.
• Venus, lord of the 2nd and 7th from Aries, is in the 4th from it — nothing special.
• The 7th from Aries, Libra, holds Ketu. Ketu owns the 8th from Aries (Scorpio). 8th lord in the 7th — and it is Ketu, the planet of dissipation and burning down.
• In the 1st from A9 itself the Moon is eclipsed by Rāhu.
• Verdict: a very strong chance of the father passing away in this year.

Annual TP Analysis — Sachin Tendulkar (1998–2009)

1998 TP — Sharjah

TP on April 18, 1998. Scorpio lagna.

• Hora lord: Saturn — 3rd and 4th lord, a functional malefic, debilitated in the 6th.
• 3rd lord debilitated in the 6th is extremely good.
• Saturn is with Mars and the Sun: three malefics in the 6th from lagna and the 3rd from arudha lagna. Auspicious for destroying bowlers.
• The first daśā of the year is Saturn's own: April 18 – May 6.
• Result: India was almost out of the Sharjah tournament. In the last league game, against Australia, India had to win at a particular run rate. Tendulkar made 140-odd and took India into the final, then made another century in the final and India won the trophy. Back-to-back centuries.

2003 TP — Out of the Slump (Melbourne and Sydney Tests)

Leo lagna.

• He did well in the 2003 World Cup, but in Test cricket he made only 153 runs in the whole year. Muttiah Muralitharan joked at an awards function that he had scored more runs than Tendulkar.
• Two Tests in Australia fall between December 26 and January 5. For exactly those days the annual daśā is Moon–Jupiter antardaśā.
• Dasamsa (Leo lagna): Moon and Jupiter together in the 12th → Gajakesari Yoga, which gives long-lasting fame.
• Look at the lordships: Moon is the 12th lord, Jupiter the 8th lord (he owns Pisces too, not only the 5th). 8th and 12th lords joined in the 12th = Viparīta Rāja Yoga.

"When you are talking about Viparīta Rāja Yoga, it better be in a dusthāna. Had it been in lagna or some other place, it would have been weak. Being in a dusthāna, it is very strong. It is a full Viparīta Rāja Yoga."

• Viparīta means reversal: fortune swings from one extreme to the other.
• PVNR predicted on a Yahoo group that he would make a very high score in these ten days.
• Result: at Sydney, about 240 not out in the first innings and 60 not out in the second — 302 runs without being dismissed, scored on January 2, 3 and 4. Almost twice his Test runs of the whole previous year, in three days.

2005 TP — Surgery (the Year of the Class)

Gemini lagna.

• Background: in 2004 he made 940 runs at an average above 90, yet he was not playing freely because of a tennis elbow, and played second fiddle to others. He had surgery this year. A Pakistani astrologer predicted he would retire.
• Hora lord: Sun — 3rd lord exalted in the 11th. Very good.
• Dasamsa (Libra lagna): the Sun is the 11th lord — the bādhakeśa — in the 12th, his maraṇa kāraka sthāna. Bādhakeśa in the 12th is very good. The 10th lord Moon is with him there.
• No great rāja yoga for a triumphant return. Lagna and lagna lord are not strong in the Dasamsa.
• Jupiter daśā was running. In the Dasamsa Jupiter is the 3rd and 6th lord in lagna.
  • 3rd lord in lagna: a comeback, or a short break? The 8th lord can show retirement; the 3rd lord can show a short break.
• Surgery is read from the rasi chart, not the Dasamsa. The 6th–12th axis shows surgery (6th: fixing a problem; 12th: hospitalisation). The 6th from Gemini is Scorpio; of its lords Mars and Ketu, Ketu is stronger, and Ketu is with Jupiter. So Jupiter can give a medical procedure. It happened in Jupiter daśā.
• He is expected to be away four months. Comeback: Venus or Sun daśā. For Sun daśā (November 9–29) there is quite a strong chance that he is back and does reasonably well — the bādhakeśa is in the 12th, so the bādha is going away; problems with no tangible cause slowly disappear.
• Overall: an average year.

2006 TP — the Predicted Peak

Aries lagna.

• Hora lord: Saturn in the 4th — nothing special. Lagna and lagna lord matter along with the Hora lord.
• Lagna holds the exalted 5th lord Sun — power, ability, recognition, fame.
• Lagna lord Mars in the 3rd. A malefic in the 3rd gives fire and fight. Excellent.
• From arudha lagna: Mars in the 11th, Sun in the 9th protecting. Sun and Mars daśās will be glorious — Sun daśā at the end of 2006, Mars daśā at the beginning of January 2007.
• Mercury (daśā around March–April): in the rasi chart he is the 6th lord debilitated in the 12th, joined by Rāhu, the 11th lord and bādhakeśa, also in the 12th. A better yoga than the one in the 2005 Dasamsa. In the Dasamsa (Taurus lagna) Mercury is the 5th lord and Rāhu is in his own house in the 10th: a rāja yoga of 5th and 10th lords — recognition in career.
• Dasamsa: parivartana between Mercury and Saturn, so Saturn daśā is also good.
• From November on, the rest of the year looks very good.

Rāhu's transit (natal Vimshottari). He is running Rāhu daśā. The daśā lord's transit is extremely important; if it is bad from the natal Moon, the period is unsteady whatever else shows.

• Now (2005): Rāhu is in Pisces, the 4th from natal Moon in Sagittarius. He destroys sukha — no comfort.
• October 11, 2006: Rāhu enters Aquarius.
  • Own house.
  • 3rd from the Moon. Only three houses are good for Rāhu: 3rd, 6th, 11th.
  • 6th from lagna — again one of the best.
  • A trine from arudha lagna. The rules from AL differ: Rāhu in a trine from AL is very auspicious and protects the māyā; Jupiter in a trine from AL takes something away from the māyā.
• PVNR's prediction, posted on a Yahoo group a day or two before the class: Tendulkar will not retire. He will have nagging worries for another year to year and a half. From about November 2006, for a year and a half, he will have a glorious period and reach another peak — "who knows, he may even make 100 centuries", as a student put it. The number cannot be found from the chart. The 2007 TP also looks impressive.

Why Vimshottari here. Dvisaptati Sama daśā applies to this chart — lagna lord in the 7th. Yet PVNR gets far more consistent results from Vimshottari, having followed his scores day by day as a fan. He has no justification. Conditional daśās work impeccably in most charts where they apply; a few charts are exceptions and he does not understand why.

2009–10 TP — the Predicted Retirement

Gemini lagna.

• Hora lord: Moon.
• Dasamsa (Sagittarius lagna): the Moon is the 8th lord in the 7th — the death combination, here death of the career — and Ketu, the mokṣa kāraka, is with him.
• Jupiter is there too: Gajakesari Yoga — something auspicious and long remembered.
• By lordship, though, it is lagna-and-4th lord joined with the 8th lord. Not a rāja yoga. A duryoga for career — but still Gajakesari.
• Rasi chart: the 10th lord Jupiter is debilitated in the 8th, the house of retirement, with Rāhu — Guru Chāṇḍāla Yoga.
• Conclusion: the career ends that year, but not through injury or by being dropped. Because of Gajakesari it will be remembered, like Steve Waugh's retirement — planned, announced, made into a big event, and finished with a century.
• PVNR's prediction: as a fan he wants another ten years, but from this chart "he will retire in 2009–2010 on some kind of auspicious and big bang", with a big celebration.
