Vikram Singhvi — Puzzle Chart: Devastating Event Through Narayana Dasha
Vikram Singhvi's puzzle chart: a devastating personal event analyzed through Narayana Dasha + Vimshottari + annual TP chart in combination. How to identify when a chart indicates a severe crisis period — 8H indicators, 6H enemies, MKS planets. Marana Karaka Sthana (MKS) complete list applied. The 8th lord's special name "Khara" and its signification. Mars in D10 Dasha Pravesha = good boss who protects career interests. Image protection: planets relative to Arudha Lagna determine how events are perceived publicly.
"Signs are circumstances and situations. Planets are animate — they have life force. The attitude with which you cope — that is due to the consciousness within you."

Example Chart
Vikram Singhvi's Puzzle Chart — Devastating Event Analysis
Chart data: April 7, 1970, 6:11 AM IST (73°E40', 26°N40')
Context: He posted on Vedic Astrology Yahoo group that "a devastating event happened last Tuesday; the background was building for the last 2 weeks." Asked: "What area of life? What's in store?"
(Note: PVNR stated in the class that the event turned out to be losing his job, which he later confirmed.)
Step 1 — Determine Narayana Dasha Starting Sign
- Lagna of the chart: Aries (presumably) — confirmed by: first antardasha was Pisces, meaning dasha started from Lagna (Aries)
- Running: Aries Narayana Dasha, Pisces antardasha
Step 2 — Narayana Dasha Analysis (Natal Chart)
Progressed Lagna = Aries (since ND started from lagna)
Pisces antardasha = 12th from Aries = house of losses
- Sun is in Pisces (12th house) in the natal chart
- Sun in 12th from progressed lagna = Marana Karaka Sthana (MKS) for Sun (Sun's MKS = 12th house)
- When Sun is in his own MKS: houses owned by Sun are destroyed/spoiled
- Sun rules: the 5th house (Leo) = children and abilities
First indication: Problems related to children OR abilities/recognition during Pisces antardasha.
Lord of Pisces (Jupiter): Is in the 9th house (well-placed); with Moon
- Jupiter in 9th house: good guidance, traditional/classical knowledge benefits
- Shows: the person will cope with this tragedy well; he will be level-headed, balanced
- "Everything depends on his mind and thinking. Moon with Jupiter is happy — 'don't worry, everything will be fine.'"
Step 3 — Dasha Pravesha Chakra Analysis
The entry chart for Aries Narayana Dasha
Pisces in the Pravesha Chakra:
- Venus (5th and 10th lord) is in Pisces
- But Venus is combust — conjoined with Sun, who is the 8th lord (Khareshvara/Khara)
The Combustion Mythology
PVNR's explanation: In the avatars of Vishnu, Sun = Sri Rama; Venus = Parashurama. When Parashurama met Rama, he gave all his power to Rama and withdrew. Whenever Venus and Sun are together in a chart, Venus loses all his power — he becomes powerless to pursue his own agenda; only Sun's agenda runs.
Here, Sun's agenda = 8th house (Khara, mischief, sudden shock, hard work). Venus's agenda (5th and 10th house = abilities, career) gets abandoned.
Second indication:
- 10th lord (Venus) afflicted by 8th lord (Sun) + combust = career shock
- "There can be some big disappointment in career. There will be some disappointment relating to 5th or 10th house."
Sun also in Arudha Lagna (AL) in Pravesha Chakra:
- 8th lord in AL = changes in image (ups and downs)
- But Sun is the king; Sun in AL is not devastating — it's the image of authority
- Being in a friendly sign (Jupiter's sign, Pisces) → final image won't be totally destroyed
Overall Pravesha Chakra conclusion: Big disappointment in career or children — but person will cope because Jupiter (the lord of Pisces) is in 9th house with Moon, giving calm and good guidance.
Step 4 — Vimshottari Dasha Analysis
Which conditional dasha?
- Sun is in lagna of this chart (natal chart has Sun in 1H) → Sashtihaeni Dasha applies (Sun in lagna = 60-year dasha)
- Moon is also very strong (exalted in lagna) → could use Moon Vimshottari too
Running dasha: Moon Mahadasha, Mars antardasha, Sun Prachanda (Dasha within Antardasha)
Saptamsha (D-7) — for children:
- Moon is in Aries (lagna) in D-7, exalted; but afflicted by Rahu
- 7th lord Moon + 9th lord Mercury together in D-7 = Raja Yoga for children
- Rahu afflicts Mercury closely → birth of first child with complications/anxiety
- PVNR: "There were some complications when they had a child. Things will not happen smoothly."
Dasamsa (D-10) — for career:
Bhoga Calculation (Mars antardasha, Sun sub-period):
- Count from Mars to Sun → 6th sign (counting forward)
- Count same 6th sign from Sun → Gemini = Bhoga
- Gemini = 6th house from his D-10 lagna
- Venus is in Marana Karaka Sthana in Gemini (Venus's MKS = 6th house)
- → Bhoga is the 6th house with Venus in MKS = bad outcome; problems with service/job
Sun characteristics in D-10:
- Sun = karaka for service (not business)
- Sun is the 8th lord (Khara) in D-10
- 8th lord afflicts the 10th lord + in Marka context → "existence itself has some negative result"
Moon Mahadasha overall (from AL perspective):
- Moon is exalted in lagna of D-10 = very good for image during this Mahadasha
- From Arudha Lagna: Moon is in 9th house = protection of image
- "During this whole 6-year Mahadasha, his status will be very good overall."
- But antardasha and sub-periods can bring ups and downs
Rahu antardasha analysis:
- Rahu gives Saturn's results (because they are together in D-10)
- Saturn = exalted 6th lord (service) + exalted 5th lord
- But Rahu will make Saturn act more like the 6th lord than the 5th lord
- Exalted 6th lord = strong enemies; he will have to fight
- "Rahu and Sani together: scheming enemies, harsh means, machinations."
- PVNR: enemy scheming likely happened in late December/early January during Rahu-Rahu period before the event became visible to Vikram
Step 5 — Annual TP Chart Analysis (2004)
TP data: March 22, 2004, 2:54:32 AM (birthplace location)
Hora Lord = Mars = Ruler of the Year
- Mars's events will dominate this year's agenda
- Whatever Mars is associated with will be the main theme of the year
Venus Dasha in annual TP chart:
- Venus and Mars have Parivartana → Hora Lord (Mars) and Venus exchange houses
- Venus = 6th lord of this TP chart; Mars = 5th lord
- This is a Duryoga (dusthana + trikona lords exchanging = bad)
- 6th and 5th are opposing agendas: ability/recognition vs obstacles/work-without-recognition
- Venus in 12th from Arudha Lagna in TP chart = loss of status/image
Reading the Parivartana yoga between enemies:
- Venus and Mars are not friends naturally
- Even a Raj Yoga between Venus and Mars is weaker than between Moon-Jupiter or Mars-Jupiter
- Here it is NOT a raj yoga (one is dusthana lord) → it is a Duryoga = loss
- "They have totally different agendas; each being told to do the job of the other = confusion."
Important principle on Parivartana:
- Kendra lord + Kona lord parivartana = very good Raj Yoga
- Dusthana lord + Kendra/Kona lord parivartana = Duryoga (bad)
- Even if planets are friendly, the nature of houses they rule determines the quality
Conclusion from TP Venus Dasha:
- Some fall in status, loss of image in professional arena
- Combined with Narayana and Vimshottari analysis: most likely a job loss
Step 6 — Prediction and Future Outlook
Immediate: In Mercury antardasha (within Venus Dasha of TP):
- Venus to Mercury = 8th house; 8th from Mercury = recognition bhoga
- "Before February 6th, there is a chance somebody will call him — someone who knows his work will reach out."
- Mercury = 10th lord in 10th house, Lagna lord, Bhadra Mahapurusha Yoga = very good planet
Near-term Sun Dasha (from March 21):
- Sun = 9th lord (dharma) with Jupiter (4th lord, Raj Yoga Parivartana)
- D-10: Sun in 5th house → good for recognition/getting job
- But Sun + Jupiter are in Saturn's house (Capricorn/Aquarius) = monotonous, laborious, routine job
- Jupiter is debilitated in the 5th → some disappointment or acceptance of lesser salary
- "He may get a job but it may not be the perfect job — some undesirable factor, like lower salary."
- 12th lord Sun: some kind of settlement, voluntary adjustment (12th house = giving up something)
Next Year's annual TP (April 2005):
- Hora Lord = Sun = 10th lord in D-10 (year's ruler is connected to career)
- Sun is afflicted by Rahu and Venus, but all are in Jupiter's sign and Jupiter is aspecting them from within 7 degrees
- Jupiter + Sun = Raj Yoga (5th lord + 10th lord) by aspect in the next year
- "When the Hora Lord itself is giving Raj Yoga, that yoga will dominate for the entire year."
- Also Mars in D-10's Dasha Pravesha = good boss who protects Vikram's interests
- "9th lord in 9th house with parivartana with a friend = good boss, excellent support from above."
- Prediction: 2007 May–October = important period for astrology; he will make good predictions and organize significant activities at SJC California
Marana Karaka Sthana (MKS) — Complete List
Each planet has one house in which it is weakest and most destructive to the houses it owns:
| Planet | MKS (Death-like house) |
|---|---|
| Sun | 12th house |
| Moon | 8th house |
| Mars | 7th house |
| Mercury | 7th house |
| Jupiter | 3rd house |
| Venus | 6th house |
| Saturn | 1st house (lagna) |
| Rahu | 9th house |
Effect of MKS: When a planet is in its Marana Karaka Sthana, houses owned by that planet are spoiled/destroyed. The planet cannot perform its normal role; it turns destructive toward its own significations.
Note on Rahu/Ketu degrees in houses: To see how advanced Rahu is in a sign (for Chara Karaka ranking), subtract from 30°. But to see how closely Rahu afflicts another planet by conjunction, use the actual longitude as-is — physical proximity is what matters for affliction.
Khara — The 8th Lord's Special Name
In any divisional chart, the lord of the 8th house cusp is called Khareshvara (or Khara).
- Khara was one of Ravana's army commanders (literally: "mischievous" or "harsh")
- The 8th lord always has an agenda to give sudden shock to whatever it touches
- This is not always negative: if the person already works hard, 8th lord supports that effort
- But if one is idle or relaxed, 8th lord will introduce something that forces activity
- The 8th lord "does not want you to happily relax and enjoy life — he wants you to keep doing something"
When 8th lord is also Khara in a divisional chart:
- In D-10: 8th lord can represent an aggressive boss, unexpected career shifts, or intense work demands
- The point where it becomes destructive: when 8th lord is in conjunction with a functional benefic planet like the 10th lord → the 10th lord becomes "powerless, tortured by Khara"
Image Protection — Planets Relative to Arudha Lagna
| Position from Arudha Lagna | Effect on Image |
|---|---|
| 2nd house | Nourishes and builds the image; if benefic = noble image |
| 3rd from AL | If malefic = shows initiative, boldness (good materially) |
| 6th from AL | If malefic = ability to overcome enemies (good materially) |
| 9th from AL | Protects the image throughout dasha period |
| 10th from AL | Shows visible karma/work in career |
| 11th from AL | Material gains in the image |
| 12th from AL | Loss of image/status |
Special exception for 9th from AL:
- Normally a planet in 9th from AL protects the image
- Exception: if that planet is also the 8th lord → it will break the image (not protect)
- "A planet in 9th from AL tends to protect the status — unless it happens to be the 8th lord, in which case it will tend to break the image."
