Curses from Past Life — Afflictions as Karmic Debts

How specific afflictions in the natal chart indicate past-life curses (Shaapa): planetary curses from Sun (father), Moon (mother), Mars (siblings/enemies), Mercury (relatives), Jupiter (teacher/Brahmin), Venus (wife/spouse), Saturn (servants/poor). Each curse blocks a specific life area until resolved through remedies, donation, or service.

"Unless you make a lot of failed predictions, you will not get your concepts right."

Curses from Past Life (from Book 1 Notes, pp. 76–77)

This material is from the Book 1 compiled notes and applies the curse-analysis framework to the example chart.

General Rule

When someone loses a job for a long time or faces persistent inexplicable obstacles, check for curses from past life using Moola Dasha (not Vimshottari).

Types of Curses (Affliction = Mars, Saturn, Rahu, or Ketu — by occupancy or Graha Drishti)

Planet/House AfflictedCurse Source
Venus, 7th house, 7th lordCurse of wife from past life
Moon, 4th house, 4th lordCurse of mother
Sun, 9th house, 9th lordCurse of father
Mercury, 6th house, 6th lordCurse of maternal uncle
Jupiter afflicted by 2 maleficsCurse from Brahmana

Activation: If Moola Dasha is running the planet involved in the curse, the curse "sits on your head."

Nature of Curses by Planet

  • Mars gives an angry curse (from anger/wrath)
  • Saturn gives a sad/sorrow curse (from grief/pain)
  • Rahu and Ketu give a shock curse (sudden, inexplicable)

Application to Example Chart

  • Curse of wife: No — Venus, 7H, 7L are not afflicted
  • Curse of mother: No — Mars afflicts 4H, Saturn afflicts 4H lord, but not all 3 indicators afflicted
  • Curse of father (weak): Rahu afflicts Sun (9th lord) and 9th house — weak because only one malefic, not two. Weak curse of father. The father may have felt cheated (Rahu's energy). Could have manifested when native was young. Current dasha (Saturn) = not involved in father curse.
  • Saturn's karma in D-6 (Chandra Rekha amsha): Not bad — no major obstacles from Saturn's past-life karma

Key Principles Summarized

Birth Time Rectification Protocol

  1. Identify how much error the person estimates
  2. Find which divisional chart has lagna closest to a border within that error range
  3. Start with D-9 and D-3 (for 5–10 minute errors)
  4. Use known events (marriage, siblings, children) to confirm
  5. Verify with Narayana Dasha (most reliable for external events)
  6. Use Tithi Pravesha as additional confirmation
  7. Multiple confirmations → increase faith in chart → better predictions

Core Dasha Philosophy

  • Vimshottari = Moon-based = mental perception of events (someone may feel imprisoned on their wedding day → 12th lord strong)
  • Narayana = sign-based = objective reality, always perfect for external events
  • When multiple dashas converge on the same event = high confidence
  • Converging dashas = why events actually happen in reality

Sibling/Child Analysis Hierarchy

What you want to seeChartMethod
Sibling/childD-3 / D-7House from lagna (odd = forward, even = backward)
Their spouseD-3 / D-7Upada (UL) from sibling's/child's lagna
Their childrenD-3 / D-79th from Upada
GrandchildrenD-79th from Upada of child's lagna

Important Rules for D-3 / D-7

  • Rahu/Ketu in a slot = normally the end; no more siblings/children beyond that
  • Jupiter (in friendly sign) aspecting the next sign = can override Rahu, allowing one more
  • Always ask about miscarriages — they shift the entire sequence by one slot
  • Gender from sign: Odd = male, Even = female; Exceptions: Gemini = female, Cancer = male, Aquarius = female, Pisces = male
  • Sex determination in D-3 is less reliable than in D-7

D-10 Career Reading Framework

  1. Lagna = inherent nature in career
  2. 6th house / 10th house = where career energy lies
  3. Arudha Lagna = image colleagues have of you
  4. Amsha (Dikpala) = specific nature of the work
  5. Debilitated planets in D-10 = patient, hardworking (not bad)
  6. Exalted planets in D-10 = excited, good when things come easy, but won't work hard
