Vimsamsa (D-20) — Spiritual Attainment and Deity

Vimsamsa is not only the chart of puja; it is the chart of spiritual pursuit. Its lagna changes if the birth were 1 minute 13 seconds earlier, so it is also a test of the rectified time.

Atmakaraka in Lagna — The Supreme Blessing

If the Atmakaraka (AK) is in the Lagna of any amsha chart, God comes to that person in the domain of that amsha.

"I have my Atmakaraka Moon in my lagna in Siddhamsa, so learning came so easily to me. By the age of 10, I was a BA in Sanskrit. It came — everything came so easily to me. I was very blessed in learning." — PVNR

In the student's D-20: lagna is Pisces; AK = Moon, and Moon is in the lagna → spiritual growth comes naturally, effortlessly

Maha Raj Yoga in Vimsamsa

• Moon (AK, and the 5th lord of devotion) is in the lagna; the lagna lord Jupiter is in the 7th house aspecting the lagna
• Lagna lord and 5th lord in a Raj Yoga on the lagna axis — with that 5th lord also the Atmakaraka — is a brilliant Maha Raj Yoga
• Conclusion: if the rectification is right, he is a very genuine spiritual person and will become important in his spiritual organisation
• A caution PVNR adds: outward marks — vibhuti, rudraksha malas — tell nothing about how genuine a person is. Look at the heart, not what the face shows. The chart is the better witness.

Which Deity? — 5H and 2H in Vimsamsa

5th house in Vimsamsa = the deity you have special personal attachment to. Read the planet in the 5th and the lord of the 5th.

• Here the 5th is Cancer with Sun in it; its lord Moon is in the lagna
• Sun could have given Rama or Shiva; but Moon, sitting in the lagna with the Raj Yoga, dominates
• Moon in Pisces — a sattvic deity — can certainly show Krishna; Pisces can also show Jagannatha
• Confirmed: the student is specially attached to Krishna ✓

2nd house in Vimsamsa = Kula Devata — the deity the family has traditionally worshipped

• Here the 2nd is Aries with Mars + Venus → some rajas and tamas; not a sattvic deity
• Mars can show Hanuman, Veerabhadra, Subrahmanya
• Confirmed: the student's Kula Devata is Veerabhadra, a son of Shiva ✓

"Kula Devata is in the 2nd house. Whichever planets are strongly influencing the 2nd house, they show which god your family used to worship."

Jupiter Dasha, Moon Antardasha (2001–2003)

• Jupiter is the lagna lord of the Vimsamsa and Moon is in its lagna — both tied to the lagna, so in Jupiter–Moon the Raj Yoga begins to fructify
• The spiritual pursuit finds a new direction. Confirmed: in this period he joined a group reciting Soundarya Lahari and came into contact with a Swamiji.

Saturn Dasha in Vimsamsa (from 2006)

• Saturn is in the 12th house of the Vimsamsa, in Aquarius — his own sign and Moolatrikona. From Pisces lagna he is the 12th lord in the 12th → Vimala Yoga
• The 8th and 12th houses are very important in Vimsamsa — a dasha of a planet there brings spiritual experiences
• In the Rashi chart too Saturn is in the 12th: tapasya and spiritual experiences
• Badhaka in the 12th: for Aries lagna the Badhakasthana is the 11th, Aquarius, owned by Saturn and Rahu — and both are in the 12th of the Rashi chart. So inexplicable tensions and worries come to an end in Saturn Dasha.

Dasamsa (D-10) — Image and Career Rise

D-10 lagna is Virgo. The Arudha Lagna (AL) is Sagittarius.

Planets Counted from the Arudha Lagna

• Planets in the 9th from AL protect the status — the image is protected and raised
• 3rd and 6th from AL are the houses of fighting and achieving. A saintly planet there — Jupiter, Mercury or Venus — shows someone who looks like a loser from the material point of view, or else a sadhu

Jupiter Dasha (running): Jupiter is the AL lord but sits in the 6th from AL. He is also in the 9th from Lagna, so the native is protected. But in these years he looks laid-back, easily contented, not a great winner.

"This is a period when you will look like a laid-back person who doesn't try, who doesn't want something really high and mighty, he just becomes happy very easily."

Saturn Dasha: Saturn is in the 9th from AL → he boosts the image.

Saturn in the Dasamsa

• Saturn owns the 5th and 6th and sits in the 12th
• 6th lord in the 12th = Vipareeta Raj Yoga → a sudden rise
• No business in this dasha — he stays in service

Dikpala Amsha of the Dasha Lord

• Jupiter in Ananta amsha → in Jupiter Dasha the focus is on spirituality and understanding things; not promising materially
• Saturn in Indra amsha → power and authority. Saturn is at 28° — well inside the 27°–30° division, so no small ayanamsa error can move him out of it

"When you see a planet in Indramsha's dasha coming, especially if that planet is well placed from Arudha Lagna and associated with the 5th house from Lagna, you can predict without doubt that that person will rise."

Here all three hold: Saturn is in Indra amsha, in the 9th from AL, and is the 5th lord.

"My prediction is you will rise to great heights in your career. You will become some big shot. It may not happen as soon as Saturn comes — Saturn is a slow planet. But within Saturn Dasha, I think you will rise to great heights."

How brittle such readings are: had Saturn been at 27°01′, a slightly different ayanamsa would put him in another amsha. Check how close a planet is to a border before predicting from its amsha.

The student had himself feared Saturn Dasha because Saturn is in the 12th. PVNR's answer: Jupiter, in the 6th from Lagna in the Rashi chart, can give some health problems; Saturn, the Badhaka lord in the 12th, can remove them. Saturn is the better dasha even physically, not only for career.

Physical Appearance and Ayurvedic Constitution

Can known physical traits be used to fix the lagna? Yes — within limits.

Lagna Is the Body; Moon Is the Mind

• Aries lagna, no planet in it, Sun aspecting it. A student says: "he is aggressive." PVNR corrects this: lagna is the body; attitude and mental outlook are read from the Moon
• Here Moon is with Jupiter, Mercury and Ketu — all sattvic — so he is not an aggressive person
• Fire in the body does not make a person aggressive. It dries the body out.

Pitta / Kapha / Vata from the Lagna

• Pitta (Mars or Sun influencing lagna): stocky and athletic, neither fat nor thin, good muscles — and little hair. Pitta burns the hair; a bald head is a strong hint of a Martian or solar lagna.
• Kapha (Jupiter or Venus in lagna, in a Kapha sign): well-built, fat, with thick, oily, lustrous hair
• Vata: very thin, emaciated, weak

"Pitta people are athletic, they have good muscles, and they tend to not have a lot of hair. That is a strong hallmark of Pitta people."

This chart: the lagna is in a sign of Mars and receives the graha drishti of only one planet — the Sun, another Pitta planet. Venus and Mars also aspect it by rasi drishti, so there is a little Kapha, but he is about 90% Pitta. An Ayurvedic doctor reading the pulse would find the same.

• What the Ayurvedic doctor examines to find the dominant element: the nadi (pulse), the heart, the urine, the stools, the coating on the tongue
• A daily tonic that suits such a constitution: a little shatavari, guduchi and brahmi in milk

What Works Always, and What Does Not

• Always works: Pitta/Kapha/Vata build. Also single strong features — big eyes mean a strong Venus (in lagna, aspecting it, or owning it).
• Does not always work: the face shape given for each lagna in the classics. Aries people usually have a big round face, but PVNR has seen every kind of face with every lagna.
• Fixing a lagna from appearance alone is very difficult. It is useful for choosing between two neighbouring lagnas — say Aries or Taurus — from how thin or fat the person is.

Prakriti vs. Vikriti

Prakriti = inherent nature
Vikriti = the change in that nature brought by dashas and transits

"It is that vikriti that gives you trouble. And the goal of a doctor should be to restore the prakriti."

The constitution is read from the lagna; the kind of problems a person gets is read from the dusthanas — the 6th, 8th and 12th houses and the influences on them.

Planets That Bring Disease

A planet that links a dusthana with the lagna brings disease to the body

• 6th lord in lagna
• 8th lord in lagna
• 8th lord aspecting lagna
• a planet in the 8th aspecting lagna

In the student's chart Venus is in the 8th and aspects the lagna (by rasi drishti) → Kapha-type problems such as colds now and then, even though his nature is Pitta.

Blood Pressure

• High blood pressure is fiery → Pitta. Pitta planets as dusthana lords afflicting Moon → high BP
• Low blood pressure is weakness, more air → Vata. A Vata planet afflicting Moon → low BP
• General guidelines that work in most cases, not certainties
• The troublemakers to check are the 6th, 8th and 12th lords and the Badhaka lord; whatever planet they afflict, the tissue or function it rules suffers

D-6 Health Analysis During Dashas

D-6 lagna is Cancer; the lagna lord Moon is in the 9th with Saturn.

Jupiter Dasha (running)

• Jupiter = 6th lord and 9th lord
• As 6th lord he can give disease; as 9th lord he protects
• Rahu and Ketu occupy the 6th house, so if a disease is to be given they step in ahead of the house lord
• Net: health not perfect, not smooth, but no major problem

Saturn Dasha (from 2006)

• Saturn = 8th lord, in the 9th, afflicting the lagna lord Moon
• A student objects that the 9th is the house of protection. PVNR: it helps when the 9th, 6th or lagna lord is there — not when the one whose agenda is to spoil sits there
• Moon will put up a fight; Saturn will want to give some defeat. Not terrible, but worse than the present period.
• Moon rules blood and the mind → watch blood pressure, and guard against depression
• Saturn is a Vata planet → the blood problem is likely to be low BP
• Confirmed: the student already has low BP ✓ — it is there even in Jupiter Dasha, so it can get worse in Saturn Dasha
• Spiritual practice can add to it: detachment from material things can turn into depression

"Not in this case, but in some cases when you see Saturn with Moon in Shashtamsa or D30, Trimsamsa, you can even expect suicidal tendencies. Basically no enthusiasm in life."

Advice: do not ignore early signs. Avoid foods that increase Vata, take herbs that keep the pressure up, and do not aggravate the mind.

D-2 (Hora) for Financial Analysis

PVNR reads the Kashinatha Hora here. Its lagna is Aries.

Key Rules in the Hora Chart

• 2nd house = property, wealth. Venus, the 2nd lord, promises good wealth when his dasha comes
• A planet in Marana Karaka Sthana (MKS) withdraws what its houses give:
  • 9th lord in MKS → financial protection is withdrawn → tight situations
  • 12th lord in MKS → cannot spend as much as one wants → restrained spending
• Badhaka lord in the 12th → tensions over; a good dasha
• 11th lord in the 12th → what is gained is directed into spending

The Two Dashas

• Two planets are in MKS in this Hora chart: Jupiter in the 3rd and Rahu in the 9th
• Jupiter Dasha: Jupiter owns the 9th and 12th and sits in MKS → protection withdrawn and spending restrained. Not a great financial period — tight, but managing.
• Saturn Dasha: Saturn, the 11th lord, is in the 12th, and the 11th is also the Badhakasthana → the Badhaka lord is in the 12th. Tensions end, there is more stability, and he earns well and spends without anxiety.

"Always you find Badhaka lord in the 12th house, be assured that that will be a good dasha."

Saturn Dasha — The Whole Picture

• Spiritually: the pursuit reaches a new height
• Professionally: new heights
• Financially: stable
• Health: the weak side — blood pressure and state of mind need watching

PVNR closes by commending the student: the first in the class to rectify his own chart and present it, and the class was convinced.

Sunrise Definition — PVNR's Position

PVNR explains his definitive position on the sunrise definition used for computing Ghatika Lagna, Hora Lagna, and other special lagnas.

Three Definitions in Software

1. Center of Sun's disc truly on the eastern horizon (PVNR's choice)
2. Tip of Sun's disc truly on the eastern horizon
3. Apparent rise — the first visible ray, while the disc is still below the horizon and seen only through refraction — Sanjayji's method; also the one used for certain rituals

The choice matters at the borders: in this chart the sunrise definition decided which planet was the Hora Lord of the Tithi Pravesha.

Why PVNR Uses the Center of the Sun

Sunrise = the moment Lagna and Sun are in exact conjunction. Sunset = the moment they are exactly opposite.

At sunrise by this definition:

• Lagna = exact longitude of Sun (lagna is the eastern horizon, Sun is exactly there)
• Ghatika Lagna = exact longitude of Sun (starts where Sun is)
• Hora Lagna = exact longitude of Sun (starts where Sun is)

All three — Lagna, GL, HL — are at the exact same point at sunrise. They then move away from the Sun at different speeds:

• GL moves at 5× the speed of Lagna
• HL moves at 2× the speed of Lagna

This creates perfect symmetry: everything starts together and then diverges. With the apparent-rise definition, GL and HL are still with the Sun at sunrise but the Lagna is slightly away — the symmetry is lost.

"There is a certain symmetry. With my definition, at the time of sunrise, Lagna will be exactly where Sun is because lagna is the eastern horizon. Ghatika lagna will be there, Hora lagna will be there, everything is conjoining. And then they move away from Sun with different speeds."

Why Not the Apparent Rise (Sanjayji's Method)

The refraction/atmospheric method is undefined and arbitrary because:

• Atmospheric refraction depends on atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity
• On a cloudy day, you may not see the Sun at all — what then?
• Even "had there been no clouds" varies with weather conditions

"The definition that Sanjayji uses is totally arbitrary — I cannot accept that definition. It is not just arbitrary, it is an undefined construct."

The tip-of-disc definition is at least well defined; it only lacks the symmetry. PVNR expects that Sanjayji will one day accept the center-of-Sun definition — one of the few differences left between them.
