Lagna vs. Moon — Deep Teaching (Revisited)

Moon = The Legislator Within

• Moon = mind
• Mind functions at 3 levels:
  1. Experiences the world (receives input through senses)
  2. Processes experiences — forms desires, impressions, synthesizes what you want to do
  3. Forms agenda for action — decides how you want to change/influence the world
• "Mind is that through which you experience the world AND that which synthesizes your response to it"
• "Mind is not just reaction — it is also the basis of action"
• "If mind is dead, you are basically God (jivanmukta) — you don't do anything"

Lagna = The Executive Within

• Lagna = that through which you actually act in the world
• Lagna implements the agenda set by Moon
• Lagna is "a dumb servant" — it acts, but does not contemplate
• "Moon forms the agenda; Lagna implements that agenda"

Combined Understanding

• To understand a person's actions: need BOTH Moon (agenda) and Lagna (implementation)
• To understand why someone acts a certain way: look at Moon's nakshatra, sign, etc.
• To understand how they act: look at Lagna's sign, lord, etc.
• "Moon is the legislator who makes rules; Lagna is the executive who enforces them"

Introduction to Sarvatobhadra Chakra (SBC)

What It Is

• Sarvatobhadra = "auspicious in all directions/rounds"
• A nakshatra-based chakra (diagram) for looking at overall life force through transit
• One of the principal tools for nakshatra-based transit analysis
• Shows transit influences on the natal nakshatra pattern

Vedha — The Key Concept in SBC

• Vedha (primary meaning = to pierce; secondary = obstruction) — when a transiting planet has Vedha on a natal nakshatra, it:
  • Purifies or
  • Obstructs that nakshatra's energy
• "Nature of planet slightly modifies because of Vedha"
• Vedha = a kind of aspect or influence in the SBC framework

Latta — The Unfavorable Blow

• Latta = a "kick" or blow
• If a planet has Latta on the Janma Nakshatra (natal Moon's star, shown in red) → unfavorable for the native
• "Planet having Latta is generally not good"
• In JH software: right-click → "Highlight Rasis and Latta" to see Latta placements

Planetary Nakshatra Aspects in SBC

Each planet has special nakshatra aspects (beyond the zodiacal 7th house aspect):

Note: The 15th nakshatra is common to all = every planet aspects the 15th nakshatra from itself.

Speed Affects Direction of Aspect

• Retrograde (vakri) planet: aspects go backward (full aspect in backward direction)
• Normal speed: aspect in direct forward direction
• Fast moving: full aspect in forward direction
• Moon's normal speed ≈ 13°/day; fast = >13°

Upagrahas (Sub-Planets) in SBC

• If any upagraha occupies a nakshatra that becomes active in Tribhagi: propitiate that nakshatra's deity
• "If Kala, Mrityu, or Gulika is in the currently active nakshatra, worship the deity of that nakshatra"
