Studies and Career — Young Man (1992)

The Question

• Born July 8, 1992, 21:56:30 IST (5h30m east of GMT). The time was rectified earlier from 21:54, which moved the D-24 lagna from Gemini to Cancer.
• Rāśi lagna Aquarius. D-10 lagna Gemini. D-24 lagna Cancer.
• He is 20, in the third year of mechanical engineering — the branch suggested from this chart in an earlier class, on the strength of his Mars. He loves cars and cares about energy and the environment.
• He works hard but his grades are low. He is not a good test taker.
• Asked: is it only a matter of time, or should he change his discipline? And will he get an internship next summer?

Rāśi Chart — Jupiter Daśā Now, Saturn Daśā from 2018

Jupiter daśā (till 2018, age 26)

• Jupiter is the 2nd and 11th lord in the 7th house. "He is a clear malefic. He is a pāpī." A functional malefic for Aquarius lagna.
• He is in a kendra, but his aspect on lagna is the aspect of a functional malefic.
• For studies take the 4th house as lagna: Jupiter is again a malefic — 8th and 11th lord, sitting in that 4th.
• "This is not really the best period in his life." And it is the period in which most of his education is done.

Saturn daśā (from 2018)

• Saturn is in the 12th house as 12th lord, in his own sign: Viparīta Rāja Yoga (Part 1), with only duṣṭhāna lords aspecting him.
• Mars and Saturn are the strongest planets in the chart. Mars is the 3rd and 10th lord, a functional malefic. Saturn is the lagna lord and 12th lord, a functional benefic. "So he is probably the strongest planet in the chart."
• Saturn is retrograde. Saturn rewards effort; retrograde, he asks for more effort than should be needed. The results may not come right away.
• "Once Saturn daśā comes, his life will be different. My expectation is that he will be far more successful than he is in the Jupiter period."

Life Is Not Linear

A student objects that his education will be over by 26, before Saturn daśā begins.

"There are some people who don't really excel in studies, but they take off later, because life is not linear. It's not like you need to excel at time X in order to excel at time X+1."

• How a person did in the past is a good predictor of the future, "but not necessarily."
• "There are people who did very well till a certain time and then they just fell off. And there are people who do average, and then they take off when the time comes."

D-10 — Career

The D-10 lagna (Gemini) has plenty of leeway, so it is certain. The D-24 lagna is on a border. D-10 is read first; the purpose of study is career anyway.

Jupiter daśā

• Jupiter is the 7th and 10th lord — slightly malefic overall — debilitated in the 8th house.
• As 10th lord he can start the career; he will be 26 when the daśā ends.
• In the 8th: setbacks and changes. Debilitated: not comfortable or happy with the work. The career does not take off in this period.

Saturn daśā

• Saturn is the 8th and 9th lord. The 8th is neutral, the 9th is a benefic house: overall a benefic.
• He is in the 11th house — good for any planet (Part 1) — as lord of the 9th house of fortune.
• He is alone. Mercury, Jupiter and Sun have only three-quarter aspects on him. No serious affliction.
• "I expect that he will actually have good gains in the career."

Mercury daśā (from 2037)

• Lagna lord Mercury is exalted in the 4th house. Venus is exalted in the 10th house. They face each other.
• A rāja yoga between the lagna lord and the 5th lord (Venus owns the 5th from Gemini; the recording says "6th"), "both exalted, both very good friends."
• Jupiter aspects Mercury; otherwise there are no full aspects on the pair. "It's not really blemished."
• Seventeen years from 2037: "the golden period." The teacher says ages 43 to 60; by the birth year it is 45 to 62.
• Mercury–Venus, around 2040–43: "a pinnacle in the career."

Counsel

• The career starts in an average way before 2018, gains come in Saturn's 19 years, and Mercury daśā puts him in a great position. "Daśās are increasingly getting better."
• "I will not really worry about how he is studying." But a good D-10 is no reason to drop out: "Do whatever you can, get whatever degree you can, and then get whatever career you can, and then keep working."
• When the right daśā comes and the right transits trigger it, the career develops.

D-24 — Studies Now

D-24 lagna Cancer, cast with the revised reckoning (Part 1). Only Mercury moves, from Libra to Aries; the reading is the same either way.

Jupiter daśā

• Jupiter is the 9th lord — the 9th is the house of the bachelor's degree — and he aspects the 9th, his own sign. "A sign lord aspecting itself is not bad."
• But he is in the 3rd house, his maraṇa kāraka sthāna.
• Some weakness, no serious problem. The degree will not break off in the middle.

Venus (the two years just ended)

• 3rd and 8th lord, a malefic, placed in the 5th.
• Tensions, worries and unhappiness in studies.

Sun (starting now)

• 6th lord in the 12th — good in itself — but with the 9th lord Mars. The Viparīta Rāja Yoga is only partial (Part 1).
• Average. Better than Venus. "Don't expect that things will be really smooth and you can suddenly start getting really good grades."

Moon (next year)

• From the daśā lord Jupiter: 11th lord in the 10th, a kendra.
• From the 9th house: 5th lord in the 4th. "A trine lord in a kendra is quite good."
• "The next six months are better than the last two years, but really speaking, towards the end of next year things will improve. 2014 will be a good year for him for studies."

Counsel: keep confidence, do your best, don't worry too much about bad grades, keep slogging. Don't give up.

Internship — 10th of D-24 and 4th of D-10

He wants an internship in summer 2013, towards the end of Jupiter–Sun.

"Internship is, you are doing work. Only thing is, there may not be financial gain, but you are learning to work. […] There has to be a link between the Siddhāṁśa and the Daśāṁśa."

D-24 — from the 10th house

• D-24 is the chart of learning; the 10th is the house of work. Learning in a workplace is seen from the 10th house of D-24. The 6th can also be looked at; the 10th is the main one.
• Take the 10th (Aries) as lagna: lagna lord Mars and 5th lord Sun are together in the 11th, aspecting the 5th. "This is a great yoga."
• The same Sun–Mars pair that reads poorly from the 9th house (fortune in learning) reads very well from the 10th.
• "In the Sun antardaśā there is a very good chance that he can get a good internship. So go for it."

D-10 — the 10th and the 4th

• D-10 is the chart of work. Here both are needed: links with the 10th house, because he is working, and with the 4th house of learning.
• Sun is in the 8th house of D-10 with the 10th lord Jupiter. Being with the 10th lord suggests work. Being in the 8th: "This may not be long. There may be some rocky experience of work."
• Take the 4th house (Virgo) as lagna: Sun is the 12th lord, placed in a trine from it. The teacher calls the 12th lord well placed and conducive to learning. (The recording is garbled at this point.)
• The stronger showing is the one in D-24. "So this will be more learning than actual work. It will be a very good learning experience."
