Narayana Dasha — Three Angles of Interpretation & Effort vs Fruits

Three angles of Narayana Dasha interpretation: (1) the dasha sign's house from lagna (what area activates), (2) planets in the dasha sign (their lordships activate), (3) sign lord's placement (where the energy flows). Narayana vs Lakshmi distinction: Narayana Dasha = effort and activity (what you do); Lakshmi Dasha (based on 9H) = fruits received (what you get). ND vs Vimshottari — how to use together: ND gives the high-level frame, VD gives the mind's experience within that frame. Adoption and Saturn: Saturn's special signification for adoption in D7.

"Narayana Dasha shows the events on the ground. Vimshottari shows how the mind experiences those events. They are complementary — use both."

— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao

Three Angles of Interpretation

Once you know the running Narayana Dasha and Antardasha, interpret from THREE angles. Mix all three for complete predictions.

Angle 1: Where Is Narayana (Natal Lagna Reference)

  • See the Dasha sign from the natal lagna
  • Whatever house the dasha sign is from natal lagna = that house is being activated by Narayana
  • Narayana brings his power (effort and divine grace) to that house
  • All planets in the dasha sign, all yogas involving it, all significations of that house → become prominent
  • Ask: What yogas exist there? What planets are there? What house is it from natal lagna?

Clarification from PVNR: "Wherever Narayana is does not mean those things will prosper. It means you will put LOT OF EFFORT into those things. Narayana = effort. Lakshmi = fruits. Don't confuse them."

Angle 2: The Progressed Lagna

Rule for finding Progressed Lagna:

  • If ND started from LAGNA → Dasha sign itself = progressed lagna (Brahma is there)
  • If ND started from 7th HOUSE → 7th from Dasha sign = progressed lagna (because Narayana is with Shiva/7th; so Brahma = 7th from Narayana)

How to use:

  • Take the progressed lagna as the NEW lagna
  • Analyze the ENTIRE natal chart from this new lagna
  • Look at all house positions relative to this new lagna
  • 7th house from progressed lagna = where the strongest desires are in this period
  • Planets in 7th from progressed lagna = what you are most hungry for during this period

PVNR's principle: "If Sun is in the 7th from the progressed lagna (dasha sign), the person becomes extremely power-hungry during that period — will do anything for power."

Angle 3: Dasha Pravesha Chakra (Period Entry Chart)

  • Cast a chart for the exact moment the dasha starts (to the second)
  • In Jagannatha Hora software: right-click the dasha period → "Entry chart of this period"
  • This chart shows the planetary configuration when this new "chapter" began

How to use:

  • See the dasha sign in the entry chart — how strong is it? What planets are in it?
  • See the lord of the dasha sign in the entry chart — is he strong or weak?
  • Planets in the dasha sign of the entry chart = important during this dasha
  • For antardasha timing: See which antardasha signs contain strong yogas in the entry chart → those are the most important antardasha periods

Key principle for antardasha: "When you see a Raj Yoga or strong combination in a particular sign of the period entry chart, directly go to the antardasha of that sign — that is when the yoga is most likely to fructify."

Note on timing granularity: ND gives good results up to Antardasha level (typically 5-12 months). For sub-antardasha timing, use Vimshottari + TP chart.

Narayana vs Lakshmi — Effort vs Fruits

This is a crucial philosophical distinction:

Narayana = the god of effort, action, karma yoga

  • Wherever Narayana is (in ND), that is where you PUT all your effort and energy
  • He wants you to work, work, work
  • He doesn't necessarily give you the fruits — he gives you the activity

Lakshmi = the goddess of abundance, blessings, results

  • Wherever Lakshmi is, that is where the fruits, blessings, and easy results come
  • Tracked by Sudasha (a separate dasha system)
  • When Lakshmi arrives, things happen effortlessly
  • Sri Lagna (SL) = where Lakshmi sits in the natal chart; she travels over time

Practical implication: ND tells you where effort will be invested. To see if that effort will bear fruit, also see Sudasha. If Narayana and Lakshmi are both in the same area at the same time → maximum results with maximum effort.

ND vs Vimshottari — How to Use Together

When to Use Which

DashaUse For
VimshottariHow the person feels, reacts, perceives; inner emotional experience
NarayanaGround reality of events; what is actually happening regardless of feelings
Both togetherMore confident predictions; look for OVERLAP periods

The overlap technique: If Vimshottari suggests career success in a 5-year period, and ND also suggests career activation in a 7-year period, the OVERLAP (let's say 2 years) is when it's most likely to happen. You can now predict with more confidence for a narrower window.

Birth Time Accuracy

  • Vimshottari: needs precise birth time (few minutes)
  • Narayana Dasha: within 10 minutes accuracy is sufficient for reasonable predictions
  • Because ND antardasha is typically 5+ months, a few minutes of error won't change the dasha period

Adoption — Saturn's Special Signification

In the lady's chart example, she was adopted in 1970 (Aquarius antardasha within Sagittarius mahadasha).

Why Saturn Signifies Adoption

  • Saturn is the planet of rejected, downtrodden, and cast-aside people
  • "Saturn was rejected by his own son. He was treated poorly. So he has special affinity for rejected children."
  • Dattaputra yoga (adoption yoga) is connected to Saturn's significations
  • Saturn represents adoption, fostering, taking responsibility for someone society has abandoned
  • This is why Saturn = also servants, laborers, poor people — all those whom "normal" society rejects or overlooks

In This Chart

  • Saturn = 9th lord in 9th house = extremely strong placement
  • 9th house = Lakshmi's blessings; fortune; what comes easily as grace
  • Saturn as 9th lord in 9th = adoption coming as a karmic blessing
  • Aquarius antardasha = Aquarius contains Saturn's influence; Saturn's significations activated
  • Period entry chart (birth chart itself since this is the first dasha): Saturn in 9th house = prominent
  • Result: She was adopted during Aquarius antardasha (November 1969 – May 1970) — confirmed

D-12 for Adoption

  • D-12 lagna has Sun afflicted by 6th lord + 8th lord Jupiter and Saturn
  • Moon in 8th house in D-12 with Ketu = very bad indication for mother in D-12
  • "When Moon is in 8th house in D-12, the person has a very rough relationship with mother — or mother passes away very early"
  • Sun afflicted in D-12 = problem with father
  • Both karakas (Sun = father, Moon = mother) are afflicted → basic parental problem
  • PVNR: "I cannot tell you from this chart whether this person is adopted or just has parental problems. For that we need other principles. But I can tell you there is serious trouble in the parental sphere."

Adopted Parents

PVNR acknowledges this as an open research question:

  • Natural parents: Sun = father, Moon = mother
  • Adopted parents: possibly Saturn shows them, but this is not classical knowledge
  • "Maybe 4th from Saturn or 9th from Saturn for the adopted parents — but I don't know. This needs research."
