Annual TP Analysis — Methodology, Multiple-Planet Exchange & Gandanta Warning
Annual TP analysis methodology: step 1 = identify the Hora lord and check its Raj Yogas; step 2 = check if Hora lord is in lagna or aspects lagna (strong year); step 3 = identify Yogada in the TP chart; step 4 = run dasha + transit for specific event timing. Multiple-planet exchange rule: if 3 or more planets are in a mutual exchange (each in another's sign), arrange by natural beneficence and pair from both ends — BUT Jupiter/Moon/Sun will never exchange with Rahu without a mediator planet. Annual TP analysis of the puzzle chart (Nov 12 1979): Raj yoga Venus(1L)+Mercury(5L) in 6H; Saturn (Hora lord) in 4H — "good year but no mental peace." Gandanta warning: planets at exact water-fire sign boundaries (last 1 navamsa of water + first of fire) are in a terribly dangerous state. Jupiter at 9 arcminutes from Cancer-Leo border = "Ashlesha Gandanta — terribly severe." AK protection rule: when AK dasha/antardasha runs, near-death is possible but actual death is unlikely — AK wants to teach that the body is Maya.
"In the annual TP chart, first identify the Hora lord. If it forms a Raj Yoga, that Raj Yoga will fructify. If the Hora lord is weak, the year will be difficult regardless of other indicators."

Example Chart — The Puzzle
Chart data: October 22, 1943, 7:30 AM IST, Bangalore (77°35'E, 12°59'N)
Person: "Chandrashekhar" — Kiran's father. Libra lagna, Moon at 15°41' Cancer.
The puzzle: Something significant happened to this person on January 14, 1980. What was it?
Annual TP chart (Tithipravesh for 1979–1980):
- Date: November 12, 1979, 10:20 PM, Bangalore
- Hora Lord: Saturn
- Lagna: Gemini with Mandi
- 3rd house: Mars (4°), Moon (7°), Jupiter (14°), Rahu (11°) — Rahu closely afflicting Jupiter and Moon
- 4th house: Saturn (Rahu Hora lord)
- 6th house: Sun (debilitated) + Venus
- 9th house: Ketu
Exchange Rule for Multiple Conjunct Planets
When several planets are conjunct in a house, they exchange results in a specific pattern. The Method:
-
Arrange the planets in order of natural beneficence (most benefic first, most malefic last): Jupiter → Mercury → Moon → Venus → Sun → Mars → Saturn → Rahu/Ketu
-
Fix the first and last: they exchange results
-
Fix the second and second-from-last: they exchange results
-
Continue until all are paired
-
Middle planet (if odd number): gives its own results
Example: If Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Rahu are together:
- Arrange: Jupiter, Moon, Mars, Rahu
- Jupiter ↔ Rahu (first and last)
- Moon ↔ Mars (second and second-from-last)
So Moon gives Mars results, Mars gives Moon results. Jupiter would give Rahu results and Rahu would give Jupiter results — EXCEPT for the major exception below.
Critical Exception: Planets That Refuse to Exchange with Rahu
— PVNR"Jupiter, Moon, and Sun will never exchange results with Rahu."
These three spiritually elevated planets are so repelled by Rahu that they refuse to wear each other's clothes. For an exchange to happen between Jupiter (or Moon or Sun) and Rahu, you need a mediator planet:
- If Mercury is present: Mercury, being a student who admires both, may mediate and allow the exchange to happen
- Without a mediator: Jupiter and Rahu (or Moon and Rahu) will each give their OWN results — no exchange
Practical rule:
- With just two planets (Jupiter + Rahu): no exchange; each gives its own results
- With three planets where one is a possible mediator: complex; use intuition
- Moon+Jupiter+Rahu = Moon and Jupiter not exchanging with Rahu; Rahu is left isolated
Annual TP Chart Analysis
Overall picture of this TP chart:
- Raj yoga: Venus (1L) + Mercury (5L) together in 6H = lagna lord + 5th lord conjunction = significant Raj yoga, despite being in Marakarasthana
- Graha Malika Yoga culminating in that same Raj yoga pair
- Saturn (Hora lord, year ruler) well-placed in 3H = some protection for the year
Negatives:
- Jupiter (10L) in MKS in 3H
- Venus (5L, 12L) in MKS
- Moon (2L) in 3H with Rahu very closely afflicting (Moon at 7°, Rahu at 11° = 4° orb)
- Saturn in 4H: "wherever Saturn is placed, he depletes those houses" — Saturn in 4H = depletes peace of mind, happiness, mother's welfare
Overall conclusion:
— PVNR"Good year overall, but no mental peace. Good things happening around him, but no peace of mind."
Specific concerns:
- 7th lord (Jupiter) in MKS + closely afflicted by Rahu = problem for marriage
- 5th lord (Venus) in MKS = some concern relating to children (5th lord in MKS, though giving Raj yoga = children unlikely to suffer severely)
- 4th house depleted (Saturn) + Moon afflicted = no mental peace
- Dasha running at the time: Mars period (or border of Moon-Mars)
Gandanta — The Most Important Warning
Definition: Gandanta (also written Gandantha) = the junction/border between a water sign and a fire sign:
- Pisces / Aries border
- Cancer / Leo border
- Scorpio / Sagittarius border
The most dangerous point: last 1 navamsa (~3°20') of the water sign + first 1 navamsa of the fire sign. The innermost 1° on each side is even worse. Within 10 arcminutes = terribly severe.
Why it is dangerous: The border between the incompatible elements of water and fire is inherently unstable. Any planet placed here is in an extremely uncomfortable state.
— PVNR"Never ignore a Gandanta planet. When that planet's dasha or antardasha comes, something serious is possible to the body. Even if other things show good results, if you see Gandanta in the natal chart in a bad dasha, you should conclude there is some problem."
In this chart: Jupiter is at the last 9 arcminutes of Cancer (border with Leo). This is "Ashlesha Gandanta" — terribly severe. Jupiter is:
- A functional malefic (3L+6L from Libra lagna)
- Afflicted by Rahu (though not as closely as Moon)
- In Gandanta (only 9 minutes from Leo border)
- In Marakasthana (cancer is 10H from Libra = no, wait — for Libra lagna, Cancer = 10H; MKS for planets = 4H, 7H... actually cancer in D-6 chart position)
AK protection: Jupiter is also the Atmakaraka (AK) of the chart.
Rule about AK dasha/antardasha:
— PVNR"When AK dasha or antardasha is running, death is unlikely even if there is a huge accident. AK wants to teach: 'Body is Maya, not you. Your Atma is you.' So AK will give near-death experiences to teach this lesson, but will not allow the soul to die because that would remove the opportunity for more karma and spiritual growth."
— PVNR"An accident due to Atmakaraka will be LIFE-CHANGING. After such an accident, the person's inner spirituality may awaken. The mind becomes more attuned to the Atma than the body."
Practical implication: When you see a Gandanta planet forming a dasha/antardasha, IMMEDIATELY advise the person to do Mrityunjaya Mantra (108 times daily for 40 days minimum). This may not avoid the event, but can reduce its magnitude.
