Q&A: Exchange of Results Across Dasha Levels

Question: two planets that are together exchange their results. Does that work only at antardasha level, or at Mahadasha level too? (The teacher calls it "the parivartana of the results"; the case discussed is two planets together, not a sign exchange.)

Answer: it applies to Mahadashas as well. It may not start when the Mahadasha starts.

• Mercury and Mars together, Mercury dasha of 17 years: Mercury may begin with his own results. When Mars antardasha comes, or even a Mars pratyantardasha inside an earlier antardasha, the exchange is triggered. From then on Mercury dasha gives Mars results. Once Mercury–Mars is over it is almost certainly Mars results only.
• Worst case, it is triggered when the antardasha of the other planet comes.
• In Mars dasha: Mars–Mercury will certainly trigger it. Earlier triggers are possible through a planet connected with the pair: the dispositor (if they sit in Jupiter's sign, Mars–Jupiter–Mercury), or an aspecting planet (Mars–Rahu–Mercury if Rahu aspects them), or simply Mars–Mars–Mercury.
• The moment of triggering is hard to time. In between, the two results can be merged.
• Once triggered it stays: Mars behaves as though he is Mercury.

"If we are both living in the same house, you do not necessarily become like me on day 1. You may become like me on day 100."

• Relationship decides the speed. Good friends exchange earlier. An uncomfortable pair may exchange late or never: "If Moon and Rahu are together, Moon will give Moon result, Rahu will give Rahu result." The same for Jupiter–Rahu.
• A student objected that two people keep their own agenda. The teacher: once one starts thinking like the other, he picks up the other's agenda and may forget his own.
• Exchange at antardasha level (Mercury and Venus exchanging inside Saturn dasha) is also right but matters less: one to three years, against 10 or 17 at Mahadasha level.

Q&A: Narayana Dasha — What the Sign Itself Gives

Under the three-part rule one third of a Narayana Dasha belongs to the sign itself. A student listed the three things noted earlier for the sign (guna of the sign, its house, sign aspects) and asked what "aspects" means there.

• Sign aspects on the dasha sign, not planets. Results of planets aspecting the sign are given in another third and are not counted here.
• Leo dasha: Leo is aspected by Libra, Capricorn and Aries (not Aquarius). Some of Libra's agenda is pushed in Leo dasha, marginally, and Leo pushes his in Libra dasha. "It is basically give and take." This is Libra the sign, not its occupants.
• Argala on the sign counts too (e.g. the 4th sign from it).
• These are slight modifiers. The key is which house the sign is: from lagna, from Moon, from Jupiter, from Hora Lagna and from Arudha Lagna.

"The key thing is what house is it from lagna, what house is it from Moon, what house is it from Jupiter… and what house is it from Arudha Lagna. So this is the most important thing."

• Nature of the sign: sattvic, rajasic or tamasic; fiery or watery; productive or dry; an inauspicious sign like Scorpio or a positive one like Pisces or Cancer.
• The nature does not change the result shown by the houses. It accentuates its positive or negative side. Cancer is a sign of creation: the creative, positive traits are magnified. Scorpio is a very evil sign: the negative traits are magnified.
• This is not a subdivision of the dasha years. How to subdivide the period among the three parts: "There must be somewhere, but we do not know."

Q&A: Stronger Rashi Lord When Two Lords Exist

A student's case: Amatya Karaka in Gemini in Navamsa; the 6th from it is Scorpio, which has two lords. Mars is with Rahu, Ketu is alone. Which one to take for the deity?

• Take the stronger lord, and judge strength here by count only. Relationships between the planets do not matter (the student pointed out that Rahu and Mars are enemies).
• "If Mars is with planets and Ketu is alone, Mars is the lord of Scorpio, not Ketu in that case. That is what Parashara teaches specifically, and that is what Jaimini teaches."
• The weaker lord can also be suggested and will lead to the right path in the end; here Mars is the better choice.
• Mars with Rahu → Subrahmanya (Kartikeya). There is a theory that this deity, the one who feeds, should be a Shakti form because the mother feeds. Subrahmanya can feed too. Such classifications (only a Vishnu avatara as Ishta Devata, only a Shakti here) are useful up to a point; taken to the extreme they are useless.
• Worship of Subrahmanya ensures the native always has food, resources and work.
