Spirituality — Which Planet? (Q6)

Question: under which planet are spiritual leaders born?

No single planet. Jupiter is usually prominent, but every planet can make a person spiritual in its own way — just as no single planet makes a person materialistic.

• Mars and Ramakrishna: he worshipped Kali for a long time, and when she did not appear he took a sword to cut off his own head. He fainted and saw Kali. That force of determination is Mars.
• Rahu and Ketu: in the early stage one prays to the gods. Close to moksha there are kriyas and procedures to be done. People with strong Rahu and Ketu are at that advanced stage.

The Moon–Saturn Combination

Raised by a student in the middle of the spirituality question. Moon is the mind; Saturn is the planet of depression and sadness, the planet of vayu.

The Range of Results

• A simple person, easily satisfied, without many desires.
• A vairagi. Vairagya is detachment, renouncing material things.
• A tendency to depression.
• A suicidal person.

"Vairagya is a form of depression. There is a link between depression, being sad, and then vairagya."

What Decides

• Jupiter's aspect is beneficial. The mind is sad or unexcited by mundane things, but Jupiter gives wisdom, and the person does not commit suicide.
• Suicidal only when: Moon and Saturn very close, no benefic aspect, Rahu or Mars aspecting them, and Moon afflicted again in D-30 — the chart of the subconscious evils.
• Relative strength: Moon strong and Saturn not — not that bad. B.V. Raman has the combination with Moon exalted and Venus there: no depression. Saturn stronger and close to Moon — depression is possible.
• Saturn's agenda: Taurus lagna with Moon and exalted Saturn in the 6th. Saturn is the yogakaraka, lord of the 9th and 10th. He gives selfless service, seva bhava, dharma done with no wish for return — not depression. The mind may still lack happiness because it is always occupied with the duty to be done.
• Leo lagna with Moon and Saturn in Libra (3rd house): Saturn is the 6th lord, and exaltation of a 6th lord is not good. He gives Saturnine problems and makes the person sad about them. Some proneness to depression.
• Distance: at the two ends of the sign it is no big deal. Within 5–6 degrees it is very concerning. The student's case — Saturn at 3°, Moon at 25° — is not bad.

Handling the Client

• A person with Moon afflicted by Saturn keeps thinking "what if this happens". Be optimistic with him. If you are pessimistic too, he takes it even more pessimistically.
• Do not tell him he will commit suicide. Do not even say he will be suicidal.
• If the dasha is also bad, caution the people around him to keep him cheerful.

D-20 — The Spiritual Path (Q6 continued)

Question: can the marga a person follows be seen from D-20?

There are no clear guidelines in the classics or in the tradition. What follows is PVNR's own thinking and observation.

The Chart

• D-20 is the chart of upasana. Parasara says the knowledge of a person's upasana is to be had from the Vimsamsa.

The Houses

Many Paths, None Wrong

• Some do yoga and want the Kundalini to rise. Some leave it alone and surrender to God.
• Worshippers of the Divine Mother treat Her as mother, as daughter, as wife, or as a servant to be commanded. Those who command get results faster, but it is a very risky path: one small mistake and the fall is total.
• Nobody can call one path right and another wrong. If there were only one right path, God would not have created the others.

4th from Atmakaraka in D-20

The path the atma feels affinity towards: the planet in the 4th house from the Atmakaraka in D-20.

"4th house is the house of mother. How the Divine Mother has to guide this particular soul — that is seen from the 4th house from Atmakaraka."

• Based on 20–25 charts of spiritual people of different paths. PVNR calls it experimental knowledge from his own observation, resting on clear logic: the soul must be involved, so the Atmakaraka; and D-20 must be involved.
• He studied great spiritual people first — Aurobindo, Sivananda — because a strong soul takes control of the life early.

What the Soul Wants vs. What the Person Does

• The 4th from AK shows the marga the soul wants. It does not necessarily show the path followed. The mind may be stronger and impose something else.
• A student asked whether a change of Atmakaraka explains a person's change of path. It could be a reason. But even without it the path need not come at once: a person may wander for 20 years, take up Kriya Yoga, try something else, and find the path at 50. It may be the path his soul always wanted, and then he finds peace.
• What the person actually does — bhakti, pujas — is seen from Lagna in D-20: the 5th (mantra, devotion) and the 9th (dharma) and the planets there.
• If the two connect, the person has found his path. Otherwise he is doing something but has not found it yet.
• That is not a bad thing. Finding the path takes hundreds of lives.

Drig Dasa — A First Mention

PVNR had thought of teaching this dasha that day, decided the class was not ready, and then arrived at it anyway.

• Moola Dasa shows the root of what is happening — what was done in a past life that is coming back at this moment. It is not about spirituality.
• Narayana Dasa of D-20 is always useful for spiritual progress.
• Drig Dasa is the one dasha focused on spirituality. It is a Rasi-chart dasha, listed after Sudasa among the rasi dasas in his software.

"It is focused on the light of God that is watching you, the eyes of God that are watching you, the light of God that is falling on you, which is guiding your spiritual pursuit."

The Order of Signs

• It always starts from the 9th house.
• The 9th house and the three signs it aspects come first; then the 10th house and the signs it aspects; then the 11th and the signs it aspects.
• Whether to go forward or backward follows further rules. Computation and judgment were left for a later class.

One Rule to Use Now

A Drig Dasa of a sign containing Ketu or aspected by Ketu is very auspicious. It brings a lot of spiritual progress.

Gems and Prayer (Q7)

Prayer Is Risk-Free

The day before the class was Krishna Sani Trayodasi — Trayodasi on a Saturday in the waning fortnight, with Bharani nakshatra, a very powerful day to pray to Saturn. Someone asked PVNR: Saturn is a bad planet in my chart, can I still pray to him?

"When you are praying to a planet, you don't have to worry about what the planet stands for. If it's a good planet, it will do you more good. If it's a bad planet, it will do you less bad. So worship is always a risk-free thing."

A Gem Is Not a Sattvic Approach

• Wearing a gem is trying to control and manipulate the planets through the energy of the stone. It is rajasic. Some elders suggest no rings at all.
• Strengthen a planet whose agenda is to spoil you and he harms you.

Thumb Rules of the Elders

Thumb rules do not always work.

Do not wear

• The gem of a dusthana lord — 6th, 8th or 12th.
• The gem of the 2nd or 7th lord while a maraka dasha is running. It emboldens him. When no maraka dasha is running, some advise the 7th lord's gem; it is good for marriage.
• A navagraha ring. It is an invention of the last few centuries, not a traditional ring — one ring sold to everybody. If seven planets want to harm you and two want to save you, wear those two, not all nine.

May wear

• The lagna lord's gem: very auspicious. He is the most important planet for you.
• The 9th lord's gem: very auspicious.
• A yogakaraka's gem, even if he is also a badhaka. In the student's chart Mars is badhaka and yogakaraka; red coral may be good for her. For Libra lagna Saturn is yogakaraka; people dread blue sapphire, but it is good for such a person.
• The gems of two planets forming a Raj Yoga, together. In the student's chart lagna lord Sun and 9th lord Mars are together: ruby and coral together — not a popular combination — can make the Raj Yoga give its result faster. There will be some badha with it; the Raj Yoga will still work. Anything you wear brings some good and some bad.

Look from Every Reference

• A planet very good from Lagna may be terrible from Moon — the mind comes under siege. He may be bad from Jupiter — the wisdom stops functioning.
• Look from Lagna, from Moon, from Arudha Lagna, from everything. No planet is always good.

"Unless you are 100% sure, stay away from the gems and instead do twice the prayer."

• Prayer is surrender. Its results come slower but are more sustainable and permanent.
• A gem is borrowed money. You meet the expense now and pay back later — if not in this life, in the next.

Changing Gems by the Hora

A student described someone who changes her ring with the hora of the hour. PVNR sees no link between hora and gem. One could as well go by weekday, tithi, karana, yoga or nakshatra. A person's own dasha and antardasha should decide more than so fine a division of time.
