VE7 Special Lagna — Marriage Research

A student has applied the VE7 rule to a chart and cannot find the marriage. The teacher works it on screen. He calls this "speculative experimental research", and says so again for the recording:

"This is just research. So it can be false, even though, like I said, 80% of the charts I have seen do satisfy it. But it is not really infallible."

Theory

• Lagna starts at the Sun's position at sunrise and moves non-uniformly through the zodiac in 24 hours.
• Parāśara defines special lagnas that start at the same point and move at uniform speed, returning to the Sun's position at the next sunrise:
  • Bhāva Lagna — once round the zodiac
  • Horā Lagna — twice. Seed of 2; the 2nd is the house of money; Horā Lagna shows wealth.
  • Ghaṭī Lagna — five times. Seed of 5; the 5th is the house of power; Ghaṭī Lagna shows power and authority.
• The research extends this: take the rising of any planet instead of sunrise, and any house number as the speed factor.
• VE7 = Venus with factor 7. Venus is the kāraka of marriage; the 7th is the house of marriage. (In the teacher's software: Edit → Planetary Special Lagnas Research.)
• Me10 is the corresponding lagna he has spoken of for career.

The Rule

"Take the 7th house from VE7, and that has to be linked to lagna in some way. The lord of that house being in lagna, or lagna lord being in that house, or the lagna lord and the lord of that house aspecting each other or being together. Even half aspect is fine, half aspect or three-quarter aspect, but there has to be some link between the 7th from VE7 and lagna for marriage to occur."

• The link must be made by the daśā or antardaśā that brings the marriage.
• The daśā lord need not aspect VE7 itself (the student's mistake). It must be in a yoga with a planet or sign that connects the 7th from VE7 to lagna.
• Natal chart: use the nakshatra daśā. It is not always Vimśottarī — if a conditional daśā applies ahead of Vimśottarī, use that, or the principle may fail.
• Annual Tithi Praveśa chart: use Tithi Aṣṭottarī.
• Satisfied in about 80% of the charts he has seen.

Example chart

The teacher reads the data out: 4:44 AM Eastern Standard Time, "5 hours west of GMT". Married March 24, 1973.

Rāśi chart: Leo lagna with Mercury and Venus in it. Sun (lagna lord), Saturn and Ketu in Virgo. Jupiter in Aquarius in the 7th. Moon and Rāhu in Pisces in the 8th.

VE7 is at 10° Virgo. The teacher checks the margin before using it:

• Lagna changes sign about every 2 hours. VE7 moves 7 times faster: 120 ÷ 7 ≈ 17 minutes per sign.
• At 10° of the sign about 6 minutes of the 17 have passed. VE7 changes sign if the birth is 6 minutes earlier or about 12 minutes later. If the birth time is right within 6 minutes, VE7 stands.

7th from VE7 = Pisces. It holds Moon and Rāhu; neither is linked to lagna, so set them aside. Its lord is Jupiter.

The daśā: the student had Venus–Venus (Venus daśā from August 1972) because of a wrong birth time in his file. With 4:44 AM, Venus daśā begins only in 1981. The marriage came in Mercury daśā, Saturn antardaśā.

Mercury:

• Lord of VE7 (Virgo), placed in lagna.
• Mercury in Leo and Jupiter in Aquarius aspect each other (graha dṛṣṭi, the 7th aspect). Jupiter is lord of the 7th from VE7 and aspects lagna.
• So Mercury is one of the planets connecting the 7th from VE7 to lagna.

Saturn — "antardasha is even more important":

• He is in VE7 (Virgo).
• He aspects the 7th from VE7 directly: Saturn in Virgo, full graha dṛṣṭi on Pisces.
• He is the dispositor of Jupiter, the lord of the 7th from VE7.
• Link with lagna: he is with the lagna lord Sun. Not very close, not far — within 9°, both in the first 10° of Virgo, in the same drekkāṇa.

"So both Mercury and Saturn actually link it, and moreover, apart from 7th from VE7, they are actually linked with the VE7 itself."

The 1972 Tithi Praveśa Chart

• Hora lord of the year: Mercury. Lagna: Leo.
• VE7 is at 7° Aquarius — safe; it would take an error of 4–5 minutes to change sign.
• The 7th from VE7 is Leo, which is the lagna. The link is trivial. Marriage can occur in the year.
• In Tithi Aṣṭottarī the marriage fell in Saturn daśā. The teacher says his logic for Saturn is not strong:
  • Saturn is lord of VE7 (Aquarius).
  • Saturn in Taurus has a three-quarter aspect on Leo (the 4th from him) — lagna and the 7th from VE7 — and a half aspect on its lord Sun in Virgo.
  • Sun or Jupiter could equally have given it; Jupiter in Sagittarius aspects Leo.
  • What lets Saturn win: he is the 7th lord in the rāśi chart and again the 7th lord in the navāṁśa (both have Leo lagna in the year chart). "This is only one technique."

The Tājaka Chart for 1972–73

Looked at near the end of the class.

• Here too the 7th from VE7 holds the lagna, so any planet in that sign or aspecting it can give the marriage.
• Pātyāyinī daśā (the daśā that goes with Tājaka charts): the marriage falls in Mercury daśā. Mercury has only a half aspect on lagna, though a close one — Mercury at 14°, lagna at 10°. A candidate, not a strong one.
• Mudda daśā (compressed Vimśottarī, also used in Tājaka annual charts): Saturn–Venus runs from March 23 to April 1, 1973. Saturn is in lagna, in the 7th from VE7. Venus is lagna lord. Both lords are tied directly to the 7th from VE7 and to lagna.

"In general, I find Patyayini Dasha to be more useful, but here … the Mudda Dasha, that is actually showing the result much clearer."

• The examples he had circulated used only Tithi Praveśa charts. The principle was verified on the natal rāśi chart, the Tithi Praveśa chart and the Tājaka chart.

The site does not compute VE7, Tithi Aṣṭottarī, Pātyāyinī or Mudda daśā; those values are the teacher's. The planetary placements above are checked against the cast charts.

Rāśi Only — the Precision Limit

A student asks whether to check VE7 in the navāṁśa as well. No.

• Even 12 minutes is tricky: near a border, one minute changes the sign.
• These lagnas must have some role in the divisional charts. But credible research with Ghaṭī Lagna, VE7, Me10 and the like in charts other than rāśi is ruled out by precision.

"How can you know that time is accurate within 1.2 minutes? No way. … We do not want to go there, so just stick to Rasi."

The Same Chart — Business in D-10

Two students had been asked about this native's business. It is the chart of Part 4: the placements read out (Moon at 12° and Rāhu at 5° of Pisces in the 8th; the D-10 below) are those of the 1950 chart. She runs a yoga studio.

Why D-10 Shows Business

D-10 has Taurus lagna.

• A student objects that the 7th house of D-10 is empty. The teacher: an empty house is not the test.
• The 7th lord Mars is in a trine (Virgo, the 5th).
• A7 is in the 3rd and A3 is in the 7th — an ārūḍha exchange between the 3rd and 7th, "very conducive to business".
• Moon is 3rd lord and lord of A7 (business, a tangible partnership). She is in the 11th in Pisces with the 11th lord Jupiter. One planet ties the 3rd, 7th and 11th.
• Moon, Jupiter and Mars are on the 5th–11th axis: Gajakesarī, Chandra–Maṅgala and Guru–Maṅgala yogas. The 11th holds the 3rd and 11th lords and is aspected by the 7th lord.

"All the Kama Trikonas are converging towards 11th house of gains."

• The yoga studio is unusual as a business, not unusual astrologically: the 11th is Pisces with Moon and Jupiter — traditional teaching with a spiritual element.
• The chart is auspicious for business in general. Moon and Mars periods are especially conducive.

Moon Daśā, Antardaśā by Antardaśā

Moon daśā began a couple of years before the class.

• Mars (just over): 7th lord in the 5th. Quite good.
• Rāhu (running): bad.
  • From lagna he is 10th lord in the 8th. A student calls it "not very good"; the teacher: "You don't have to say not very good, it's bad."
  • As lord of ārūḍha lagna in the 11th from ārūḍha lagna he is not bad.
  • From Moon, the daśā lord, he is 12th lord in the 10th: loss or compromise in career.
  • From both lagna and the daśā lord he ties the 10th to a dusthāna — tension and losses in career.
  • From the 7th of business he is in the 2nd, a māraka sthāna. "This is a very dangerous antardasha." About one more year of it; a time to take things easy.
• Jupiter (next): brilliant. This antardaśā gives the result of the Gajakesarī yoga. From the following February, about a year and a half looks good.
• Saturn: 11th and 12th lord in the 3rd from Moon. Good for business.
• Mercury: very good — 7th lord in the 2nd. (The recording says "from lagna"; in the cast D-10 Mercury is in Aries, the 2nd from Moon, and is 7th lord from Moon.)
• Ketu: okay, not great; not as bad as Rāhu.

The Current Year's Tithi Praveśa Chart (2008–09)

The students had judged the year bad from the Tithi Aṣṭottarī daśās. The teacher stops them: first see whether the year chart itself is weak, then go month by month.

• Hora lord (ruler of the year): Jupiter, the 8th lord in the 8th. Not that bad, since he is in his own house, but it is a year of tension and struggle.
• Weekday: Tuesday. Mars is 4th and 9th lord in the natal rāśi chart — not bad.
• Year lagna: Taurus, the 10th from natal lagna — not bad.
• Moon is in gaṇḍānta.
• In the year's D-10 (Leo lagna): Moon is 12th lord and is with Rāhu. Rāhu matters because he is a 7th lord, of business — and Rāhu is also the running natal Vimśottarī antardaśā. The other 7th lord, Saturn, is in the 8th. Jupiter, the year's ruler, is 5th lord but also 8th lord and the dispositor of that 7th lord.
• Good features in the D-10: śubha-kartarī on lagna from Mercury and Venus; Sun and Mars in the 7th of business with a rāja yoga between lagna lord and 9th lord; Mercury is 2nd lord in the 2nd.
• Periods within the year: Moon, Venus (10th lord in the 12th), Saturn and Rāhu are the bad ones. Sun, Mars and Mercury have potential — Sun is 4th lord in the 5th with the 5th lord Mercury in the rāśi chart, and has a rāja yoga with Mars in D-10.

The class places Moon and Rāhu of the year's D-10 in a māraka sthāna; the site's chart has the two together in Aries, the 9th. Every other placement above matches the cast chart.

Next Year's Tithi Praveśa Chart (2009–10)

A quick look; the teacher says he has not gone into detail.

• Hora lord: Sun. Sun and Saturn are both in the year lagna — not good, but there is distance between them.
• Rāśi: a rāja yoga of Venus and Mercury, but in the 12th. Perhaps good developments through relocation.
• D-10: lagna lord Jupiter in the 5th and 9th lord Sun in the 11th aspect each other. The ruler of the year is in a rāja yoga.
• Better than the current year. Not "great", as the students had it.

Remedy

• The problem is Rāhu. The students propose Durgā; the teacher approves.
• A student worries about Jupiter in the 8th of the year chart. The teacher: do not choose remedies from the Tithi Praveśa chart. Look at the natal chart; there Jupiter is with Moon in the 11th (D-10) and is no problem.
• In the natal rāśi chart Rāhu is in the 8th with Moon — Moon at 12° Pisces, Rāhu at 5°, within 7°. This antardaśā is bad for mental peace: anxiety, tension.

"Definitely during this antardasha praying to Durga is a very good idea."

A Note on the 7th House

• Rāhu as 7th lord in the 8th is a māraka and can trouble marriage. The other 7th lord, Saturn, is in the 8th from the 7th. Both 7th lords are on the 2nd–8th axis.
• The students report that the marriage was short. The teacher: from this one cannot say whether it is death or divorce, only that the marriage is not smooth. For the spouse, look at the navāṁśa and the 7th lord.
