Service vs Business Thumb Rule

• A strong 6th house shows a worker. A strong 7th house shows someone who has his own business.
• "This is not something that always works." It is a thumb rule.
• Judge strength by occupants first. If both houses are empty, see which one is aspected.

Applied in the Dasamsa (Virgo Lagna)

• 6th (Aquarius) and 7th (Pisces) are both empty.
• The 6th receives the rasi drishti of exalted Sun from Aries. The 6th is the house of overcoming obstacles, so the question becomes how he overcomes them: by authority, telling others to do it.
• Saturn in Leo has graha drishti on the 6th, his own house: in Saturn's periods he works hard himself. Details are in the Dasamsa section.

Applied to the Elder Brother (Gemini taken as Lagna in the Drekkana)

• Lagna lord Mercury is in the 6th with Saturn, the karaka of the 6th and of hard work. He has an inclination to work: a natural worker, disciplined and hard-working.
• The 7th is also strong (Moon and Mars), so he may be independent too.
• Lagna lord with Saturn always shows a person inclined to work.

Jaya Yoga — Yoga of Victory

Jaya = victory. The teacher brought it in while reading a debilitated 8th lord in the Dvadasamsa. He did not say the yoga is present in the example chart.

"The combination for that yoga is: Lagna lord should be reasonably strong, 10th lord should be exalted and 6th lord should be debilitated."

• The 10th lord is the final karma you do. The 6th lord is the cause of overcoming obstacles. With the 6th lord debilitated the 6th house is weak: there are not many obstacles to overcome.

Debilitated Dusthana Lords

• 6th, 8th and 12th lords being debilitated is good materially.
• The 8th is the house of troubles that must be overcome. If the lord who gives the troubles is sad, that is good.
• 6th or 8th lord exalted is bad news.
• This is not Neecha Bhanga. A weak dusthana lord is simply good.

"You don't want him to be excited, you want him to be sad, because he doesn't have a good agenda for you."

Rasi Chart Analysis

Lagna: Capricorn (Makara). Saturn, the Lagna lord, is in Cancer in the 7th and aspects the Lagna with his 7th graha drishti.

Lagna — the True Self

• Lagna owned by Saturn and aspected by Saturn: hard-working, disciplined, and cold. Not only discipline but cold-hearted discipline. Unemotional rather than compassionate.
• "I am not saying he is a bad person." This is the true self, not the perceived self.
• Mars also has no emotions, but with Mars it is aggression. Saturn thinks, decides what is right, and does it without regard for emotions.

"He is the planet who forces the results of karma on you. If there is no Saturn, it will take many lives to get rid of the bad karma that you did. The greatness of Saturn is he washes it away very fast, because he has no emotions."

• Saturn can also show spiritual sadhakas. So the next question is whether this is a saint or a materialistic person.

3rd and 6th from Arudha Lagna — Saint or Achiever

• The 3rd and 6th from Arudha Lagna are the boldness and fighting ability of the image.
• Benefics there (Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Moon if benefic): a sadhu, a saint.
• Malefics there (Mars, Rahu, Ketu, Saturn): a materialistic achiever.
• Lordship does not matter here. Only the planets placed in these houses and the planets aspecting them count.

In this chart Arudha Lagna is Libra.

• 3rd from AL = Sagittarius, with Mars and Mandi. Mandi is Saturn's son, a highly malefic upagraha; with him Mars is more powerful still. Sagittarius is not a malefic sign, but it is an Agni rasi, and Mars is an Agni graha.
• 6th from AL = Pisces. Empty. Mars aspects it (4th graha drishti; also rasi drishti, dual sign to dual sign).
• Mars is the only planet in or aspecting the 3rd and 6th. Only Martian influence.

Verdict: not a sadhu, not a saint. Someone who is aggressive and forces his will on people.

• The teacher corrected his own word: "materialistic is also a bad word." He did not say the native is unspiritual. For spirituality see Ketu's placement and the Atmakaraka's placement.

Arudha Lagna in Libra — Venus and Jupiter One Degree Apart

• Venus (24°39') and Jupiter (23°53') are in Arudha Lagna. Venus is in own sign and dominates.
• Image: pleasant to be with, and passionate. Venus is the planet of passion — "Venus means Parashurama". He has a clear agenda and goes after it.
• Moon and Venus are both planets of art and a pleasant personality. Moon is easygoing, has no enemies, says yes to everything. Venus is the passionate artist.
• So: cold-hearted in truth (Lagna); known as bold and full of fire in initiative (Mars in the 3rd from AL); pleasant and passionate in person (Venus in AL).

The clash

• Jupiter and Venus are enemies: one the teacher of the gods, the other the teacher of the demons. A student called it an eclipse; the teacher corrected him — eclipse is only for Sun and Moon by Rahu and Ketu.
• Two enemies this close clash, even though Venus is in own sign. In Arudha Lagna this gives a split image: some see him as wise, with judgment and discretion (Jupiter); many see him as a passionate person (Venus).
• The same thing in Lagna would split the true self between two extremes: internal clash, even confusion if Moon is afflicted.
• The teacher's illustration of a dual image was Osama bin Laden: a martyr to one part of the world, a ruthless terrorist to another. He noted this is not that chart.

Who wins

• A planet in an enemy's house does not keep quiet. It fights.

"If I am in this corner of the room and he is in that corner, maybe I will just sit quiet. But if I am in the middle of the room and he is also next to me, we are probably exchanging blows."

• When two planets are very close in longitude, the one more advanced in degrees wins eventually.
• Venus at 24°39' is ahead of Jupiter at 23°53'. Venus wins.
• Had the longitudes been reversed, Jupiter would have won after a tough fight, even in Venus's own sign.
• Had they been far apart (Jupiter at 1°, Venus at 28°) they would not be fighting at all. Jupiter would have given his results easily.

Jupiter's lordship is counted from Lagna, not from Arudha Lagna

• A student asked about the 6th lord from AL. Rulerships are not reckoned from Arudha Lagna.
• Jupiter in AL is not "6th lord in Lagna". He is the 3rd and 12th lord from Lagna, sitting in AL. So the initiative he takes (3rd) and the losses he incurs (12th) are what shape the image.
• Unopposed, Jupiter as 3rd lord in AL would give the image of someone who takes wise initiative: bold, but wisely and for a just reason. Here he fights and loses. A minority still sees him that way.

Remedy for a troubled Jupiter

• Praying to Jupiter strengthens him. But Jupiter is a peaceful Brahmin, a priest; there is a limit to how far he can fight.
• Sun and Jupiter are one group; Venus, Mercury and Saturn are another. Sun is the king. Strengthen the king and he comes to help the priest.
• Vishwamitra knew the astras and could have fought. When Maricha and Subahu troubled his yajna he did not kill them. He went to Dasharatha, took Sri Rama, taught him, and had Rama kill them. Jupiter = Vishwamitra, Rahu/Ketu = Maricha and Subahu, Sun = Sri Rama.
• Rule: when Jupiter is troubled by another planet, praying to Sun gives results faster than praying to Jupiter — unless Sun is a problem in that chart (6th, 8th or 12th lord, joined with Jupiter and taking the other side).
• A student objected that Sun is the 8th lord here. The teacher: he is not with them, and the 8th is not so bad because Jupiter himself owns the 3rd and 12th. Sun and Jupiter have similar agendas.

2nd from Arudha Lagna — Resources of the Image

"Never ignore the 2nd from Arudha Lagna."

• In the world of Maya you judge a person's level by his resources. All houses from AL qualify the image; the 2nd is especially important.
• 2nd from AL = Scorpio, with Mercury, Sun and Ketu. It is the 11th house from Lagna.
• Ketu dominates, being in own sign. He is the 11th lord in the 11th: a malefic in an upachaya (3rd, 6th and 11th are the good placements for malefics), in own sign. Strong. He makes the image look resourceful, but being a malefic there is something malefic attached to it.
• Sun in the 2nd from AL: the resources are perceived as political. Not necessarily his own office; it can be the resources of parents or friends. Political connections count. This is not A2 (actual, tangible resources); it is what people think he has at his command.
• Sun with Ketu: an eclipse. People do not like his political connections; they sense something bad in them. But Sun is at 28° and Ketu at 17°, so "it is not that bad".
• Mercury is the 6th and 9th lord in the 11th, well placed. Mercury in the 2nd from Arudha Lagna is a Raja Yoga according to Parasara: he gives a lot of resources, and makes a good speaker.
