Alternative Arudha: Exact Longitude Reflection (NOT Just Sign Count) — Standard Approach Limitation (Only 6 Possible Positions, No Longitude); Dhirubhai Ambani (Sagittarius Lagna): Standard AL Pisces FAILS; Alternative AL 29° Taurus → 6.5/8 Planets Aspect 11th = India's Richest Confirmed; A2 in 5th + A10 in 9th from AL
Standard Arudha limitation: sign-based approach gives only a sign (6 possible positions for each pada) with no longitude; "without a longitude you cannot reckon precise houses from the Arudha for further analysis." Alternative approach (longitude-based): (1) take exact longitude of house cusp; (2) find exact longitude of house lord; (3) calculate angular difference from cusp to lord in degrees/minutes/seconds; (4) add same difference from lord's longitude → Arudha pada = specific longitude point; (5) exception: if result falls within 0-30° or 180-210° from starting house cusp → take 10th therefrom. Source: PVNR attribute to Sanjay Rath who taught both approaches; longitude approach reportedly in some manuscript version not in standard BPHS. Dhirubhai Ambani validation (Dec 28 1932, Chorwad; Sagittarius lagna 1°20'): Standard AL = Pisces (Jupiter LL at 0°10' Virgo → standard calculation) → 11th from Pisces (Capricorn) has only ~2.5 planetary influences; 12th from Pisces has more = "contradicts being India's richest." Alternative AL: distance from lagna (1°20' Sag) to Jupiter (0°10' Virgo) = 268°50'; reflect from Jupiter → 29°00' Taurus = Alternative AL. "Taurus = bull — Dhirubhai was bull-headed, determined, a market bully = fits far better than Pisces = sage/Rishi." 11th from 29° Taurus = 29° Pisces: Mars (8th house aspect = full), Jupiter (7th = full), Rahu (full), Saturn (3rd aspect = full), Venus+Mercury (half), Sun+Moon (3/4) = 6.5/8 planets = ~85% coverage. "Parashara: if many planets aspect 11th from AL = very financially successful. 6.5/8 = overwhelming confirmation." 12th from AL = ~3.25 aspect units (substantially less). A2 (Dhanapada) = 20°02' Libra = 5th from Alternative AL (kona = wealth flourishes). A10 (Rajapada) ≈ 12° Aquarius = 9th from Alternative AL (kona = career/kingdom flourishes greatly). "Any Arudha pada in kendra or kona from AL = that life domain thrives."
"The standard sign-based Arudha for Dhirubhai Ambani gives Pisces — a rishi or sage. But he was India's richest man, a bull-headed market fighter. The alternative approach, using exact longitudes, gives 29 degrees Taurus — the bull. And from that Taurus Arudha, 6.5 out of 8 planets have significant aspect on the 11th house. That is overwhelming planetary influence on gains. This is validation."

The Problem With Standard Arudha Calculation
The validation test: Parashara says if many planets aspect 11th from AL, the person will be very financially successful. For someone like Dhirubhai Ambani (India's wealthiest, self-made), the 11th from AL should have overwhelming planetary influence.
Standard approach result (Dhirubhai Ambani):
- Lagna: Sagittarius 1°20'; Jupiter (lagna lord) in Virgo 0°10' (9th house by bhava) → take 9th → Virgo; from Virgo count 9 → Virgo again → exception → take 10th from Virgo → Gemini. But Gemini = 7th from Sagittarius → exception again → take 10th from Gemini = Pisces
- Standard AL = Pisces
- 11th from Pisces = Capricorn: only Saturn (occupant) + Jupiter (full aspect) = ~2.5 influences
- 12th from Pisces = Aquarius: has more aspects (~4 influences)
- Problem: 12th > 11th = contradicts being India's richest. Standard approach fails here.
PVNR's conclusion: The issue may be that the standard approach gives a sign (not a point/longitude), and without a longitude, you cannot properly reckon houses from the AL.
Alternative Arudha Longitude Approach
Core logic: Since Parashara defines houses as 30° segments from a reference point, any Arudha pada (used as a reference for further house reckoning) must have a longitude — not just a sign.
Method:
- Take the exact longitude of the house cusp (not the sign beginning)
- Find the exact longitude of that house's lord
- Calculate the angular difference from house cusp to lord (to the degree/minute/second)
- Add the same difference from the lord's longitude → this gives the Arudha pada longitude
- Exception: if the result falls within ±30° of the original house cusp (i.e., in the 1st or 7th house from the starting point) → take the 10th therefrom instead (subtract 90°)
Comparison with standard:
- Standard: gives only 6 possible positions for each pada (3rd, 4th, 5th, 9th, 10th, 11th from the house)
- Longitude approach: pada can be anywhere in the zodiac (except 0–30° or 180–210° from the starting house)
Source/attribution: First mentioned to PVNR by Sanjay Rath as "two approaches — one based on signs (what I use publicly), one based on longitudes (experiment with this)." PVNR experimented for years and found it makes more sense. Not clearly in extant BPHS text, but reportedly in some other manuscript version.
Dhirubhai Ambani — Alternative Approach Validation
Birth data: December 28, 1932, 6:37 AM IST, Chorwad (70°14'E, 21°01'N)
Lagna: Sagittarius 1°20'; Lagna lord Jupiter at 0°10' Virgo
Alternative AL Calculation:
- Distance from Lagna (1°20' Sagittarius) to Jupiter (0°10' Virgo): exactly 270° minus 1°10' = 268°50'
- From Jupiter (0°10' Virgo) add 268°50': 0°10' Gemini minus 1°10' = 29°00' Taurus
- Is 29° Taurus in 1st or 7th from Sagittarius? No (7th = 1°20' Gemini to 1°20' Cancer). No exception.
- Alternative AL = 29° Taurus
Personality note: Taurus = bull. Dhirubhai was famously bull-headed, determined, a market bully. Fits far better than "Pisces = sage/Rishi" from standard approach.
11th house from AL (29° Pisces):
| Planet | Aspect Type | Strength |
|---|---|---|
| Mars | 8th house aspect (full) | 1.0 |
| Jupiter | 7th house aspect (full) | 1.0 |
| Rahu | 2nd house aspect (full for Rahu) | 1.0 |
| Saturn | 3rd house aspect (full for Saturn) | 1.0 |
| Venus | 5th house aspect (half) | 0.5 |
| Mercury | 5th house aspect (half) | 0.5 |
| Sun | 4th house aspect (3/4) | 0.75 |
| Moon | 4th house aspect (3/4) | 0.75 |
| Total | 6.5 / 8 planets |
— PVNR"On average, every planet has ~80-85% aspect strength on the 11th house from AL. Parashara says: if all or many planets are aspecting 11th from AL = very financially successful. This fits well."
12th house from AL (29° Aries): ~3.25 aspect units (Mars half, Saturn 3/4, Jupiter 3/4, Sun+Moon half each, Rahu 1/4) — substantially less than 11th.
A2 (Dhanapada) calculation:
- 2nd house cusp: 1°20' Capricorn; Saturn (2nd lord) at 10°41' Capricorn = 9°21' further into the sign
- Distance from 2nd cusp to Saturn = 1 sign + 9°21'; reflect from Saturn: Saturn + 9°21' = 20°02' Capricorn
- 20°02' Capricorn = in 1st house from AL (29° Taurus → 1st house = 29° Taurus to 29° Gemini)? No, Capricorn is not near Taurus. Actually: Capricorn is the 1st house from the 2nd house cusp (Capricorn itself). Exception: 20°02' Capricorn falls in the 1st house from the original 2nd house → exception applies → take 10th from there = 20°02' Libra
- 20°02' Libra: which house from AL (29° Taurus)? Count: 29° Taurus → 29° Virgo = 5th house; 29° Virgo to 29° Libra = 6th house? Wait: 29° Taurus to 29° Gemini = 1st, to 29° Cancer = 2nd, to 29° Leo = 3rd, to 29° Virgo = 4th, to 29° Libra = 5th. 20° Libra is before 29° Libra → A2 in 5th from AL = trine (kona) → wealth flourishes
A10 (Rajapada) calculation:
- 10th house cusp: 1°20' Virgo; Mercury (10th lord) at 21°43' Scorpio = 3 signs + 20°23' further
- Distance from 10th cusp to Mercury = 3 signs + 20°23'; reflect from Mercury: 21°43' Scorpio + 3 signs + 20°23' ≈ 12° Aquarius
- From AL (29° Taurus): 9th house = 29° Capricorn to 29° Aquarius; 12° Aquarius is within this range → A10 in 9th house from AL = trine (kona) → career/kingdom flourishes greatly
— PVNR"Any Arudha pada which is in a kendra or kona from Arudha Lagna will flourish. A10 in 9th trine from AL = career extremely successful. Compare: standard approach gives A10 in 11th from AL — good but doesn't satisfy the kona/kendra criterion as strongly."
