D-7 (Saptamsa) — Finding Children: Complete Rules

Counting Children

Step 1: Look at the D-7 Lagna. Is it an odd or an even sign?

• Odd signs (Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius) → count forward
• Even signs (Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces) → count backward

Step 2: The 5th house counted that way = the first child.

Step 3: Take the lord of that sign and see where he sits. The sign holding the lord becomes the Lagna of that child inside your D-7. If the lord sits in the sign itself, take the sign itself.

Step 4: Later children: the 3rd from the previous child's house, in the same direction (the next child is the younger sibling of the one before). So 5th, 7th, 9th, 11th and so on.

Manduka Gati — the frog jump: the hop from one child's sign to the next is the frog's jump.

Rahu and Ketu end the series:

• "Whenever you encounter Rahu and Ketu, there is an end." A node sitting in the sign the frog jumps over tries to hold the frog and stop the next child.
• If the planet giving the next child is strong (own sign), he wins and the child comes.
• If not, the count stops there.

Ketu in the Lagna: Ketu reverses whatever is done. With Ketu in the D-7 (or D-3) Lagna you may have to reverse the direction of counting — an odd Lagna counted backward.

Not covered in class: what to do after six children, when the count returns to the same sign (there is a further jump). PVNR also began a rule for children from more than one spouse, was interrupted by a question, and did not return to it.

A student's question: "Suppose Venus is not there?" Every planet is in some sign. Wherever the lord is, that sign is the child's Lagna.

What the Child's Lagna Shows

"It doesn't mean my daughter, my first child, will have Taurus lagna. But if you take Taurus as lagna and analyze this chart, you can see what happens in the life of my daughter."

• The D-7 shows the child as the parent sees the child — the child from the parent's vantage point.
• This is still reality, not Maya: Arudhas are not being used here.
• The father's D-7 and the mother's D-7 need not say the same thing about the same child. Each is one snapshot.
• PVNR's illustration: his father thinks of him as an intelligent engineer and astrologer; his mother thinks of him as someone who ignores his health and does not sleep enough.
• The same counting applies in a mother's D-7.

Male/Female Determination — 3 Principles

Apply these to the sign holding the lord (the child's Lagna), not to the 5th sign itself. See which influence dominates.

Principle 1: The Sign

The four exception signs are Gemini, Cancer, Aquarius, Pisces. For them the result is reversed.

Principle 2: The Planets in That Sign

Principle 3: Exaltation and Debilitation

• An exalted planet in the sign → male
• A debilitated planet in the sign → female

More exceptions exist — for example an exchange between planets can reverse the sex. PVNR leaves them out: the sex of a child only needs predicting during a pregnancy, before the scan. Pay attention to the child's nature, intelligence, learning and career instead.

PVNR's D-7 (Saptamsa) — His Own Children

Birth data (as rectified by PVNR): April 4, 1970, 5:47:13 PM IST, Machilipatnam (81°E08', 16°N10').

D-7 Lagna: Gemini = odd → count forward.

D-7 placements used: Venus and Rahu in Taurus (12H), Ketu in Scorpio (6H), Jupiter in Sagittarius (7H), Mercury in Aries (11H).

First Child (Daughter)

• 5th from Gemini = Libra.
• Lord of Libra = Venus. Venus is in Taurus.
• First child's Lagna = Taurus.

Sex:

• Principle 1: Taurus is even → female.
• Principle 3: no exalted or debilitated planet in Taurus.
• Principle 2: Rahu (male) and Venus (female) → half and half. But Venus is in own sign and stronger than Rahu.
• Verdict: female. His first child is a daughter.

Nature: Taurus → hardworking. Venus → passionate, creative. A Venusian and Rahu influence on her.

Checked against the daughter's own chart:

• Virgo Lagna with Rahu in Lagna (Rahu in Moolatrikona).
• Venus, Saturn and Ketu in Pisces. Venus is the 9th lord, exalted in the 7th house → Lakshmi Yoga and Malavya Yoga. Venus aspects the Lagna.
• Venus is her Atmakaraka — the significator of the soul (Atma = soul), the planet that shows the true nature of the soul within. PVNR has not yet defined how to find it; he only names it here.
• She also has Jupiter in own sign Sagittarius in the 4th house → Hamsa Yoga. Venus still dominates the personality, because he is also Atmakaraka.

"She is a very creative person, has a lot of Venusian qualities. So that actually tallies with what you see in my chart."

Second Child (Son)

• 3rd from Libra = Sagittarius.
• The jump from Libra to Sagittarius passes over Ketu in Scorpio. Ketu wants to cut everything off. He tries to hold the frog and stop the second child.
• Jupiter is in Sagittarius in own sign. He is strong and he wins.

"Had Jupiter not been here in Sagittarius, Ketu would have stopped. This person would have had only one child. ... Without Jupiter's blessings, the second child would not have come."

• Lord of Sagittarius = Jupiter, sitting in Sagittarius itself → second child's Lagna = Sagittarius.

Sex:

• Principle 1: Sagittarius is odd → male.
• Principle 2: only Jupiter there → male.
• Verdict: male. His second child is a son.

Checked against the son's own chart:

• Jupiter in Pisces in Purva Bhadrapada 4th quarter: own sign, own nakshatra, exalted in Navamsa. Pisces is more sattvic and peaceful than Sagittarius — the sign of the Maharshis.
• Libra Lagna with four planets in the 10th house (Cancer): Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus = lords of the 10th, 7th, 9th and Lagna together → several Raja Yogas. Dharma-Karmadhipati Yoga from Mercury and Moon; Lakshmi Yoga from Mercury and Venus.
• Arudha Lagna in Capricorn. The 3rd from AL holds Jupiter; the 6th from AL is empty; no malefic aspects either sign. Unblemished 3rd and 6th from AL = a saintly nature. (Even with benefics there, a rasi drishti of malefics on those signs would leave some non-saintly qualities.)
• Jupiter in Pisces has graha drishti on Cancer, the house of karma, and so on all four planets there. A planet such as Jupiter or Saturn aspecting a cluster of Raja Yogas can dominate them.
• So Jupiter sets his basic nature, as the D-7 shows. At the time of the class he is 5, about to turn 6: soft-spoken, always sweet, walks away smiling when shouted at, far more mature than his age.

Timing Events in Children's Lives From the Parent's Dasha

Take the child's Lagna in the D-7. Read the parent's running Vimshottari Dasha lord from that Lagna.

PVNR is running Mercury Dasha at the time of the class:

For young children do not look for marriage, children or fame. Look at the 4th (education), the 5th (abilities, scholarship) and the 6th (health — a planet tied to the 6th operating can mean health trouble).

Ketu Dasha (2011–2018 in PVNR's chart):

• The son will be about 13 to 20.
• From Sagittarius, Ketu is in the 12th house, in own sign (Scorpio). The 12th is the house of giving and of Moksha. Ketu is Moksha Karaka. Ketu in the Moksha Sthana is powerful.
• The son will be very spiritual in that period, with important events from the point of view of spirituality.

"It doesn't mean he will get Moksha in that time. He is just a teenager. But for a teenager, he will basically be more interested in religious matters, and more than religious matters, spiritual matters."

Limits:

• The parent's Vimshottari Dasha gives only approximate results for a child. Do not use it for "will he pass this month's examination".
• A result like the one above holds, but perhaps for a 3-year stretch inside the 7 years, not for all of it.
• For precise results there is a Narayana Dasha computed for each individual child.
• The child's own chart makes everything clearer.

Overall Luck With Children

A student who had read other books mixed up two rules. They are separate:

PVNR's D-7: Gemini Lagna → 5th lord is Venus. Venus is in the 12th house, a dusthana — but in own sign (Taurus). The 12th lord in the 12th is Vimala Yoga, a yoga of contentment.

"So basically you can say that overall I am very happy and contented with children. That is what Venus would show."

If the 5th lord is in his Marana Karaka Sthana: suppose Gemini rises in D-7 and Venus, the 5th lord, is in the 6th house. The 6th is a dusthana and it is the Marana Karaka Sthana of Venus. Without looking at anything else you can say the person is unhappy, dissatisfied and unfortunate with respect to children. Suggest a remedy that strengthens the 5th lord — worship of a deity who stands for that planet.

Marana Karaka Sthana (Marana = death, Karaka = causing — the death-inflicting house):

D-3 has no such concept. There is no "overall happiness with siblings"; read only the individual siblings.

A student's question: can Venus in the 12th of D-7 show settling abroad? No. D-7 is not the chart of where you live. It shows who your children are, your relations with them, and whether you are happy with them.

Relationship Between Parent and Child

The same method PVNR used on Sanjay Gandhi's D-12 in the previous class.

• The Lagna lord of the D-7 is the native, from the point of view of children. In PVNR's D-7 that is Mercury in Aries (11H).
• Compare his position with the planet that stands for each child.

Daughter (Venus in Taurus): Mercury and Venus are 2nd/12th from each other — not very good. What eases it: Mercury and Venus are natural friends, and they are temporary friends too (planets in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th and 12th from a planet are its temporary friends). Compound relationship = Adhimitra, very close friends. Sun and Saturn in 2nd/12th would have been worse. So some hurt now and then on both sides, but overall a lot of harmony.

Son (Jupiter in Sagittarius): Mercury in Aries and Jupiter in Sagittarius are in trines.

"Here the relationship between me and my second child is a blessing given to me by gods because of my past karma."

• Had Jupiter been in Cancer (a quadrant from Aries): still good, but it would need effort from both.
• Had Jupiter been in Scorpio (8th from Aries): a troublesome relationship.

The 6/8 example recalled: in Sanjay Gandhi's D-12, Mercury in Aquarius showed his father and a planet in Cancer showed his maternal grandfather — 6th/8th from each other. Feroze Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru were always at loggerheads.

D-3 (Parashari Drekkana) — Siblings: Review and Caveats

Counting Rules (Same Principle as D-7)

• Odd D-3 Lagna → count forward; even → count backward.
• Younger siblings: the 3rd house = the first younger sibling. The 3rd from there = the next younger one. Keep taking the 3rd.
• Elder siblings: the 11th house = the elder sibling born just before you. The 11th from the 11th (the 9th) = the one before that. Keep taking the 11th.
• Ketu in the Lagna, or a strong influence of Ketu on it → you may have to reverse the direction.
• Sex of a sibling: hard to judge from D-3. The three D-7 principles are not carried over to it. (From the published class notes; not on the recording.)

Learn It on Known Charts

"When you hear principles, they will make sense, but when you actually start applying them in real charts, then you will see all the kinks in your armor."

Use charts where the birth time is reasonably sound and you know the siblings and children.

PVNR's Caveat on D-3

"In the case of D3, sometimes you get good results, but not always. I am not really sure if D3, the Drekkana chart as we use today, is really perfect, or there are some missing links somewhere. ... You sometimes just have to somehow explain things away and satisfy yourself even though it does not make perfect sense."

"On the other hand, with D7, things work beautifully. As long as you have the right lagna, things just work beautifully."

His advice: do not put much weight on D-3 for now.
