BPHS Ch.24 — 5th Lord in Houses 10–12: Rajayoga + Accumulated Fame (5L in 10H), Whatever He Touches = Gold (5L in 11H) & Occult Scholarship (5L in 12H)

The last three placements of the 5th lord. In the 10th: "not really a classical Raj Yoga" but like one, a trine lord in a quadrant; he enjoys his comforts because the planet aspects the 4th (Parāśara says bhogī, one who enjoys, not merely one who has); and fame accumulates because from the 5th its lagna lord is in the 6th, an upachaya. A student with Mars as 5th lord in the 10th enjoys the work, not the comforts: Moon and Venus are the kārakas of enjoyment, Mars turns water into steam. In the 11th: scholar, liked by people (7th lord in lagna from the 11th), writer, very capable, many children. The wealth comes from the 11th and not the 2nd: the planet has no argala on the 2nd, only a 3/4 aspect, but A5 falls in the 2nd, so he is known as wealthy and resourceful. In the 12th: no happiness from children, or an adopted child, since from the 5th its lord is in the 8th. The same placement puts the lord of devotion in the house of surrender and gives scholarship in the occult; PVNR’s example is a Pisces-lagna man with Moon in Aquarius, troubled over children and a famous astrologer.

Key principle

The lord of the house of devotion is in the house of surrender. If the sense of surrender can be triggered in that person, he can make a lot of progress.

5th Lord in the 10th, 11th and 12th — Rājya, Lābha, Vyaya

5th Lord in 10th House

Verse: suteśe rājya-bhāvasthe rāja-yogo hi jāyate, aneka-sukha-bhogī ca khyāta-kīrtir naro bhavet

  • Rāja-yogo hi jāyate — a rāja yoga results
  • Aneka-sukha-bhogī — one who enjoys many pleasures
  • Khyāta-kīrtiḥ — one who has earned great fame

Rāja yoga:

"It's not really a classical Raj Yoga, but it's kind of like a Raj Yoga because there is a link between trine and quadrant. Trine lord is in a quadrant."

  • One house is fame, the other is kingdom and accomplishment in society. He accomplishes something and gets fame for it.

Enjoys comforts:

  • From the 10th the planet aspects the 4th house of sukha.
  • Anyone with a rāja yoga has comforts. A president, a governor, a CEO has luxuries at home and may be too busy to enjoy them. Here the planet also aspects the 4th, so there is a good chance he enjoys them.

"He uses the word bhogi, means one who enjoys, not just one who has."

Accumulated fame:

  • Take the 5th house of reputation as lagna: its lagna lord is in the 6th, an upachaya.
  • A lagna lord in the 6th makes the person strong. He overcomes obstacles and conquers. Here he is a conqueror of fame.

"So he becomes famous and then he becomes more famous and then he becomes more famous. That is why he uses the word khyatakirtihi. Instead of just saying famous."

A student's chart — Mars as 5th lord in the 10th:

  • The student has 5th lord Mars in the 10th and says he gets his pleasure from the work itself, not from material comforts.
  • PVNR: that is so in this case because the planet is Mars. With Moon or Venus as the 5th lord in the 10th there would be good enjoyment too. Moon and Venus are the kārakas of enjoyment. Mars is the planet of action and fire.

"Enjoyment is of jala tattva, and Mars basically converts that water into steam."

  • Seen from the 4th house Mars is in the 7th, his maraṇa kāraka sthāna, aspecting the 4th. That can give a lot of discomfort. In this chart Mars is at least a friend of the 4th lord, so it is not bad.
  • Another student adds: the 4th is the comforts you possess; enjoying them is through lagna, the body. So there must be a link with lagna. PVNR agrees: if the 5th lord in the 10th also aspects lagna, is a friend of the lagna lord, and Moon or Venus is in lagna, the native enjoys his comforts well.
  • In this student's chart Mars does aspect lagna. His main problem is elsewhere: the lagna lord is in Capricorn with Saturn. That is why he cannot enjoy much.

5th Lord in 11th House

Verse: suteśe lābha-bhāvasthe vidyāvān jana-vallabhaḥ, granthakartā mahā-dakṣo bahu-putra-dhanānvitaḥ

  • Vidyāvān — learned, a scholar
  • Jana-vallabhaḥ — liked by people, a favourite of people
  • Granthakartā — an author
  • Mahā-dakṣaḥ — extremely capable
  • Bahu-putra-dhanānvitaḥ — with many children and much wealth

Scholar: the 5th lord is in a quadrant from the 5th (the 7th from it) and aspects it.

Liked by people:

  • 7th = other people; 11th (5th from the 7th) = the emotions of other people.
  • From the 11th as lagna, the planet is the 7th lord in lagna, a quadrant lord in lagna. People feel comfortable and emotionally connected around him.
  • Earlier verses that gave "liked by people" also turned on the 11th. It is an important house for this.

Writer: from the 3rd as lagna the planet is in the 9th, the house of fortune and protection for communication. He will write, or at least communicate with people.

Very capable (mahā-dakṣa):

  • The 5th is also the house of abilities, and its lord aspects it.
  • With the planet in the 11th, a kāma trikoṇa, people are comfortable with him. He gets things done and organises well.

Many children: the 5th lord is 7th from the 5th and aspects it.

Wealth — the link with the 2nd is weak:

  • The 11th is the house of gains, and a trine lord is in it. But to say money, the 2nd must be involved.
  • From the 2nd as lagna this is the 4th lord in the 10th. Good, nothing fancy. A planet in the 10th from the 2nd gives good wealth, but it does not say super rich. It is not a trine lord in a quadrant or a quadrant lord in a trine.
  • A student suggests argala on the 2nd. There is none; it is the reverse. The 2nd is 4th from the 11th, so the house of wealth has argala on this planet. The planet has argala on the 10th, on lagna and on the 8th, not on the 2nd.
  • It does have the 3/4 aspect on the 2nd: the 4th-house aspect that every planet has.
  • So the 2nd is not what dominates. The 11th is. From the 11th a quadrant lord is in lagna.

"It's like whatever he tries, it works basically. To use a Telugu saying — whatever he touches becomes gold. That kind of touch he will have. That is what we are talking about when we say he is accompanied by wealth."

  • One link with the 2nd does exist: A5, the kīrti pada, falls in the 2nd house (the lord is 7th from the 5th; the 7th from the 11th is the 5th itself, which is barred, so take the 10th from it).

"Whether he has a lot of wealth or not, he is actually known as a wealthy or resourceful person."

5th Lord in 12th House

Verse: suteśe vyaya-bhāvasthe jātaḥ putra-sukhojjhitaḥ, datta-putra-yuto vāsau krīta-putrānvito 'thavā

  • Putra-sukhojjhitaḥ — left by the happiness of children: no children, or the children have left him behind
  • Datta-putra-yutaḥ — or he has an adopted child
  • Krīta-putrānvitaḥ — or a purchased child

"Basically, there is something unnatural about child."

Why:

  • The 5th lord is in a dusthāna from lagna, and also in a dusthāna from the 5th.
  • From the 5th house of children as lagna, the lagna lord is in the 8th. The 8th shows getting from somebody else, like getting somebody else's money. So an adopted child: taking somebody else's child and making it yours.
  • Do not generalise. See where Jupiter is, how the Saptāṁśa is, how this planet stands in the Saptāṁśa. But by itself this is not a good combination for children.

Example — Pisces lagna, Moon in Aquarius:

  • A man PVNR knows has Pisces lagna with the 5th lord Moon in Aquarius, the 12th.
  • His first child was born autistic; a second was born normal. After a divorce the children live with their mother. He has married again and his second wife cannot have children. He does not have the happiness of children.

The positive results:

  • 5th = bhakti; 12th = giving up, surrender.

"The lord of the house of devotion is in the house of surrender. If the sense of surrender can be triggered in that person, he can make lot of progress."

  • From the 5th house of scholarship its lord is in the 8th. One could read that as no scholarship. It can also mean scholarship in 8th-house matters, the occult, astrology.
  • The same man with Moon in Aquarius in the 12th is a very good and very famous astrologer.
  • With respect to children, unless there are redeeming features, some bad result can be expected.
