BPHS Ch.24 — 6th Lord in Houses 7–9: No Marital Bliss (12L in Lagna from 7H), Famous + Bold + Wealthy (7H), Diseased + Unclean + Loose Morals (8H) & Deals in Misfortune Articles (9H)

BPHS Chapter 24 — 6th Lord in the Seventh, Eighth and Ninth Houses

The method is the same for every result: take the house that signifies the matter as lagna, and see which lord the 6th lord becomes from there and which house he occupies from there.

6th Lord in 7th House

(Verse 67 — repeated quickly, because the first recording failed)

Results: dāra-sukhojjhitaḥ — no marital bliss, no happiness from spouse; kīrtimān — famous; guṇavān — virtuous; mānī — respected and honoured; sāhasī — bold; dhana-saṃyutaḥ — wealthy.

No marital happiness

• From the 7th house: the 12th lord of losses is in lagna. Deprivation in 7th house matters; some problem with respect to marriage.

Famous

• From the 5th house of fame and following: the 2nd lord of resources is in the 3rd, an upachaya. A good chance of accumulating followers.

Virtuous

• From the 9th house: the 10th lord, a quadrant lord, is in the 11th of gains, with argala on the 9th. He is dhārmic.
• "He may even be a fighter for dharma, because the planet is 6th lord."

Respected

• From the 10th house: the 9th lord is in the 10th — a trine lord in a quadrant from the house of action and honour in society.

Bold

• From the 3rd house of boldness: the 4th lord is in the 5th — a quadrant lord in a trine.

Wealthy

• From the 2nd house of wealth: the 5th lord of pūrva-puṇya, a trine lord, is in the 6th, an upachaya.
• Upachayas from the 2nd are what matter for wealth: "Wealth is one thing that you accumulate."

6th Lord in 8th House

Results: sick, with many diseases; inimical to people in general; wants other people's money; paradāra-rataḥ — interested in other people's wives; aśuciḥ — unclean.

Diseased

• The 6th lord of diseases is in the 8th house of chronic trouble, tension and anxiety. He may not have good health.

Inimical to people

• From the 7th house of interaction: the 12th lord of losses is in the 2nd, a māraka sthāna and the house of resources.
• The 2nd feeds a house. This planet does not want to feed the 7th; as 12th lord from the 7th he wants to deprive it. "When the resources are deprived, it is death. That is how the 2nd house is māraka."
• He is also the lord of quarrels, and he has argala on the 7th. So the native is not good at relations. He is a fighter, argumentative, quarrelsome.

Wants other people's money

• The 7th shows other people; the 2nd from the 7th — the 8th house — shows other people's money.
• From the 8th house: the 11th lord is in lagna. He wants to increase the 8th house. This is why the 8th is the house of easy money: inheritance, something suddenly got from somebody else.
• Seen from the 7th as lagna: the 12th lord is in the 2nd. When this happens from one's own lagna, the native loses money. Here it happens from the 7th, so other people lose money — which means he gets it.

Interested in other people's wives

• A student asks whether it means loose morals. Literally it means interested in other people's spouses. It could mean loose morals, it could mean much sexual desire, it could mean many things. Two lines of reasoning combine:
• From the 9th house of dharma and morals: the 10th from the 9th is conduct in moral matters. The 10th lord is in the 12th from the 9th — the house of compromise, giving up, loss. In the previous combination the same lord was in the 11th from the 9th, the house of gain; here he is in the house of loss. He compromises on morals.
• From the 12th house of pleasures of the bed: the 7th lord of relations is in the 9th, a trine. A quadrant lord in a trine is good for the 12th. The planet promotes pleasures of the bed.
• A planet that promotes pleasures of the bed does not by itself mean interest in other people's wives; it may only mean a man who demands much of his own wife. It is the bad placement from the 9th, added to this, that gives the result: an immoral person interested in physical pleasures.

Do not read the verse mechanically

• A student says he has the 6th lord in the 8th. The teacher says he has it too (Aquarius lagna with co-lords Saturn and Rāhu; one lord in the 6th, the other in the 8th). "This is a possibility. Don't worry if you have it."
• To see the dharma of the person, look at the Navāṁśa and its strength.
• The 12th from dharma is not necessarily loss of dharma. It may be studying dharma in a foreign country. The 8th house is also the house of sādhana.
• The 9th is also father and guru. The 10th lord from the 9th in the 12th from the 9th can show the guru's or the father's karma going into giving — work that involves much sacrifice on his part.
• Ask: who aspects, who is there, where are the 9th, 8th, 7th lords and the lagna lord, and how is this planet related to the lagna lord? For the student, the 6th lord is in a quadrant from the lagna lord; for the teacher, it is with the lagna lord in lagna.

"There are hundreds of possible results. He is just focusing on some results in each case so that you understand different angles to look at things."

Unclean

• If it means immoral, that is already explained. If it means physically unclean: seen from lagna itself, this is a dusthāna lord in another dusthāna. He does not support lagna. Bad health, bad looks, poor clothes, something unkempt about the person.
• A student adds another reading, and the teacher accepts it: a person who puts all his energy into sādhana and does not care about anything else.
• The teacher's example is a saint whose 6th lord was not in the 8th, but whose 6th and 8th lords were together in lagna — Aquarius lagna, with 6th lord Moon and 8th lord Mercury in it. Lagna is spoiled by the two dusthāna lords, which is similar to the verse.

"He just wore the same veṣṭi, even though it was very dirty, for several weeks continuously. He looked very dirty and he didn't care."

• Others take a clean bath and wear clean clothes before meditation. He did not care. He was in dhyāna all the time; even when his cloth fell off during pūjā he did not care. Not caring about one's physical condition is also a way this combination shows.
• Note on the name: the recording gives this saint as Ramana Maharshi. The details given — Aquarius lagna, Moon and Mercury in lagna, pūjā before Kālī — do not fit the Virgo-lagna chart of Ramana Maharshi used in Lesson 15. The name in the recording is uncertain.

6th Lord in 9th House

Results: kāṣṭha-pāṣāṇa-vikrayī — sells wood (kāṣṭha), stones (pāṣāṇa) and the like; in his dealings (vyavahāre) sometimes loss, sometimes gain.

Sells wood and stones

• A student starts from the 7th house of business: the planet is in the 3rd house of initiative from the 7th, so he shows initiative in business.
• Why these odd articles? There is no specific house for them. Kāṣṭha also carries the sense of wood for burning a body, and pāṣāṇa of the things needed for the dead.

"This is not just somebody who sells wood or stones or pebbles. This could mean somebody who deals with things that have an unfortunate connotation."

• For such things Saturn is the significator and the 12th is the house. From the 7th house of business this planet is the 12th lord, so the business has a 12th-house flavour: things relating to death and misfortune.
• In the modern day: caskets and coffins, funeral services, burial plots. In general, a business with some connotation of misfortune.

Mixed results in dealings

• From the 11th house of gains: he is in the 11th, so he gives gains; but he is the 8th lord, so he gives upsets.
• "He wants to give a roller coaster ride." Good times and bad times in what he gains from business.
