The 3rd from Swamsa shows courage and the skill of the hands: malefics give a warrior, benefics a docile and diplomatic person, Venus the brush, Mercury the pen, Mars weapons; malefics in the 3rd and 6th give a farmer or a soldier, and Jupiter in the 9th a big landlord. The 9th shows dharma and faith: benefics make one righteous and devoted to teachers, malefics faithless, Saturn with Rahu one who betrays his elders, Sun with Jupiter their confidant — and a malefic must be weak for its worst to show. The 10th of Navamsha is fortune, since the Artha trines map to it: benefics give stable fortune, malefics a fluctuating income, Mercury the results of Saturn, and Sun, Moon and Jupiter a Raja Yoga. The 4th gives the residence and its materials, mainly for prasna: Moon with Venus a palace, Saturn with Rahu stone, Mars with Ketu brick, Jupiter wood, Sun thatch. Karakamsa is the desire carried from the past life and Lagnamsa what has materialised; Jaimini uses the words loosely and usually means the Navamsha lagna.

- The 9th is dharma, inherited from the father, and belief in God. A malefic there makes it hard to believe, to follow elders, to listen to the guru.
- A student objects that faith and honesty are separate things. The teacher agrees it must be read with care: he has met atheists who are among the nicest people and do their dharma well, and very religious people who are judgmental. "Take it with a pinch of salt."
- A malefic must be weak for its worst to come out. A strong malefic in the 9th supports the house — bhagya is good — but in the way he thinks right, for example through a foreign land. For bhagya to be ruined, the malefic there must be badly afflicted.
- Moon and Mercury together elsewhere give high intelligence; in certain amshas, afflicted — typically in Scorpio, where Moon is debilitated — the pair turns to illicit sex.
10th House from Swamsa (Fortune)
All the Artha trines map to the 10th of Navamsha (Part 4), so this house is fortune and income.

- The karaka of cattle as a herd is Sun. The cow is Moon.
Moon — Lord of Medicines
- Asked which planet shows medicine: Moon. The teacher wants scriptural references, not just "mother heals".
- A tantra text addresses Shiva as the one who wears on his head the Moon, lord of medicines.
- Moon shows the places where medicines are kept.
- The 4th is the house of healing, and its karaka is Moon.
- Venus heals too: the Sanjeevani mantra and the Sanjeevani herb are Venus.
Karakamsa vs Swamsa — Clarification
- At the Sun + Venus sutra (Part 5) Jaimini moves from "Swamsa" to "Karakamsa". Strictly, Karakamsa is the Atmakaraka's Navamsha sign and Swamsa/Lagnamsa is the Navamsha lagna.
- Jaimini shifts between the two words. The teacher: typically he means the Navamsha lagna.
- Karakamsa shows the desire carried from the past life. Lagnamsa shows what has materialised.
- A government post is better seen from Lagnamsa — "if you are working for a government, what has Atmakaraka got to do with it?" Some matters must still be seen from Karakamsa.
