House-by-House Rules from Swamsa
7th House from Swamsa (Spouse Nature)
| Planet in 7th | Spouse Description |
|---|---|
| Jupiter or Moon | Good-looking, fair complexion |
| Mercury | Very beautiful, young-looking, talented in fine arts/dance |
| Venus | Very attractive |
| Rahu | Widow/widower, or foreigner, or has Rahuian characteristics |

Rule: Planets in 7th of Navamsha also show the spouse's own chart characteristics:
- "If Mars and Sun are in the 7th house of your Navamsha, your spouse will have strong Mars and Sun in their lagna or associated with their lagna lord"
- You can analyze spouse's profession, personality, health from the 7th house as a chart in itself
Saturn + Mercury in 7th: The spouse was younger (Mercury dominated) but with Saturn's qualities. Spouse's chart had Saturn in lagna — Saturn characteristics confirmed.
4th House from Swamsa (Place of Mating — 10th from 7th)
The 10th from the 7th house (karya bhava for marriage) = 4th house = place where marital union occurs

Karakamsa vs Swamsa — Clarification
- Swamsa (Lagnamsah) = Navamsha Lagna = the main reference point for most rules
- Karakamsa = technically the sign occupied by the Atmakaraka in Navamsha
- Jaimini uses both interchangeably at times, but the teacher's position: "unless specifically stated, treat as Navamsha Lagna"
- For government/career assignments (Sun+Venus): better seen from Navamsha Lagna (actual manifestation) than Karakamsa (desire/soul level)
- "Your desire from past life = Karakamsa; what has materialized = Lagnamsa. Both give different layers of information."
