BPHS Ch.25 — 8th Lord in Houses 7–9: Two Wives + Maraka for Native (7H), Long Life + Thief + Blame-Game (8H) & Adharmic + Atheist + Harsh Wife + Takes Others' Money (9H)
8L in 7H: two wives/multiple marriages (8L = 2L from 7H = Maraka of first wife; "can kill first wife → second wife"; from native = instability and change in marriage); Maraka for native (8L in 7H = 2L from lagna = "strong Maraka; in this planet's dasha native must be careful about personal danger; if malefic = sure result"); business losses (7H = partnerships; 8L creates turbulence there). 8L in 8H: long life guaranteed (lord blesses own house of longevity; "even if very weak = medium life; not short; this is the best placement for longevity"); thief/appropriates others' resources (8H = 2nd from 7H = others' wealth; lord strong there = "strong in appropriating others' resources"); blameworthy/no moral character (8H = 12th from 9H = loss of dharma; lord strong in 12th from dharma = "person compromises dharma; no moral character"); blame-game/fighting (8H = anger; lord strong = fighting with people in relationships; difficult to have good relations). 8L in 9H: adharmic (8L = destroyer in 9H of dharma = "dharma is demolished; lord of destruction in dharma house"); atheist (no faith; 9H is occupied by its destroyer); harsh wife not evil wife (from 7H perspective, 8L = 2L in 3H from 7H = "2H of wife's speech in 3H of boldness = wife speaks aggressively and assertively; Dushta here means harsh speech, not moral wickedness; PVNR: 'Dushta mukhe sarva gram dushta — bad speech = world thinks you are bad'"); takes others' money (9H = 3rd from 7H; 3H = Maraka from 2H of other people's wealth; "other people's money goes into his fortune — fortune that belongs to others").
"The 8th lord in 9th makes the person adharmic and atheist — the lord of destruction is placed in the house of dharma; dharma is demolished. The wife spoken of as "dushta" — Parashara means she speaks harshly and aggressively. Dushta mukhe sarva gram dushta — if your speech is bad, the whole world thinks you are bad. It is about speech, not moral wickedness."

BPHS Chapter 25: 8th Lord in Houses 7–12
8th Lord in 7th House
Sanskrit result: Two wives; danger/loss in business; Maraka for native
Explanation:
- From the wife's perspective: 8th lord = 2nd lord from 7th house = Maraka; can kill the first wife → chance of second wife
- From the native's perspective: 8th lord in 7th shows instability and change in marriage → multiple marriages possible
- For business: 7th house = interactions and partnerships; 8th lord creates turbulence there = business losses
- As Maraka for native: 8th lord in 7th is also 2nd lord in lagna (from the native) = strong Maraka; during that planet's dasha, native must be careful about personal danger
- If malefic is there: results are sure; if no malefic, may be avoided by looking at Navamsha, D10, etc.
8th Lord in 8th House
Sanskrit result: Long life (medium if planet very weak); thief; blameworthy/blame-game person
Explanation:
- Long life: Lord of longevity house blesses the house → even if very weak = medium life (not short); this is the best placement for longevity
- Thief: 8th house = 2nd from 7th = other people's resources; lord of that house in its own house = strong in appropriating others' resources
- Blameworthy (Nimjaha): 8th = 12th from 9th = loss of dharma; lord strong there = person compromises dharma, no moral character
- Blame-game (Anjaninda): From 7th house perspective, this planet is a strong Maraka for relations; difficult to have good relationships with others; also 8th house = house of anger → fighting with people
8th Lord in 9th House
Sanskrit result: Adharmic (betrays dharma); atheist/no belief in God (Nastika); evil wife (Dushta bharya); takes others' money
Explanation:
- Adharmic: 8th lord = destroyer; placed in 9th house of dharma = lord of destruction placed in dharma house = dharma is demolished
- Nastika: Belief in God comes from 9th house; that house is occupied by its destroyer = no faith
- "Evil" wife (Dushta bharya):
- Not necessarily morally evil; from wife's perspective, 2nd lord in 3rd house = 2nd house of speech in 3rd house of bravery/boldness = wife speaks aggressively, harshly, assertively
- "Dushta" here may mean harsh/aggressive speech, not wickedness per se
- "Dushta mukhe sarva gram dushta" — if your speech is bad, the whole world thinks you are bad
- Takes others' money: 9th house = 3rd from 7th house; 3rd = Maraka from 2nd of accumulation (of other people); plus 9th = fortune, and other people's money (8th) is in fortune house = other people's money goes into his fortune
8th Lord in 10th House
Sanskrit result: No paternal happiness; miserly (Kishana); jobless/career instability (if no benefic aspect)
Explanation:
- No paternal happiness: 8th lord = 12th from 9th (loss of father/paternal happiness); placed in 10th has Argala on 9th house = bad influence actively impacting 9th house → separation from father or no father's happiness
- Note: This applies to 8th lord in 9th even more strongly (but that verse focused on dharma)
- Miserly: Kishana = possibly "tail-bearer" per some translators (PVNR to verify from Sanskrit dictionary); tentatively means someone who doesn't spend on others
- No job/career instability: 10th house = career; 8th lord = instability; in career house → instability in career; specifically if no benefic aspect
8th Lord in 11th House
Sanskrit result: No money (if malefics); sad in youth, happy in old age; long life (if benefic present)
Explanation:
- No money: 11th = house of profit and desire-fulfillment; 8th lord = instability there = desires not satisfied, gains don't come regularly
- Sad in youth, happy in old age:
- Life phases by Kendra: 1st = childhood, 4th = education/learning, 7th = marriage/partnerships, 10th = career accomplishment
- From 1st house: 8th lord is in 11th = house of frustration of desires from childhood lagna = unfulfilled childhood desires
- From 10th house as lagna: this planet is 2nd lord in 2nd house = lord of gains in house of resources = accumulates well in career/accomplishment phase → happy old age
- Long life (with benefic):
- 8th lord in 11th has Argala on 8th house (11th is Argala on 8th) AND Argala on lagna (11th is Argala on lagna from 1st) → both longevity house and lagna are blessed
- Even without benefic, there is Argala on 8th → conducive to long life
- Note: long life with Argala on lagna can mean a life full of tensions (8th lord nature)
— PVNRGeneral principle (PVNR): 8th lord in 6th, 9th, 11th, 12th all have Argala on 8th house → all can be conducive to long life (not just 8th lord in 8th)
8th Lord in 12th House
Sanskrit result: Spends on bad/adharmic things; short life (especially with malefic); Viparita Yoga for overcoming tensions
Explanation:
- Spends on bad things: 12th = house of expenditure; 8th = adharma (12th from 9th); so spending goes toward adharmic activities
- Short life:
- One view: Lord of longevity in house of loss = longevity is lost
- But Viparita view: 8th house = tensions and anxiety; lord in 12th = tensions are "given up"/released = Viparita Yoga; good for overcoming tensions and worldly success, but not good for longevity in this case
- Not as concerning as 8th lord in 7th; 8th lord in 12th is modifiable by benefic aspects
- With benefic: secondary Argala on 8th, so medium or long life possible
- Good for spiritual progress: 8th house = sadhana (spiritual practice); 12th = moksha/liberation/stagnation; lord of sadhana house in moksha house = able to release worldly distractions and focus on practice; 8th lord is 5th from 8th = good combination for spiritual advancement
