The Events and the Question

• Married: October 6, 1979 — at 17.
• Son born: March 14, 1991. Her only child.
• Husband passed away: November 7, 2005.
• Asked: why these happened, what the next years hold, and her happiness from the child — the son is everything for her now.
• The class covers the marriage and the husband's death. It ends before the son and the future are taken up.

How Sure Is the Lagna?

• Rashi: 10 min 40 s earlier the lagna would be Leo; 1 h 54 min later, Libra. An 11-minute error is assumed not to be there. Virgo is taken.
• Navamsha: Makara (Capricorn), but 3 min 8 s later it becomes Kumbha (Aquarius). Both have to be kept in mind; the marriage is the event to test with.
• The class then works throughout with Capricorn, and the marriage and the husband's death both read well from it. PVNR does not work out the Aquarius alternative.

Which Dasha?

The special conditional dashas are checked first:

• Lagna vargottama? No.
• Lagna lord in the 7th, or 7th lord in lagna? No.
• 10th lord in the 10th? No.
• Sun in lagna? No — he aspects lagna (rashi drishti from Gemini), but is not in it.

None applies → Vimshottari.

A student asked why only these four are checked and not the day-birth/night-birth dashas. PVNR: the conditional dashas that apply to half of all people only seem to supplement Vimshottari. These rare ones seem to override it — to work better than Vimshottari when they apply.

Marriage — Mercury Dasha, Saturn Antardasha, in the Rashi

Mercury:

• Lagna lord in the 9th house.
• In the 2nd from Upapada, with the Upapada lord Mars.
• Mercury dasha is capable of giving marriage.

Saturn:

• With A7 and AL. In general he gives good relations.
• He is with Ketu and gives Ketu's results. Ketu is one of the planets with Argala on UL (below).

UL in the 8th house (a student: can that give marriage at all?):

• UL is not just the bringing of the marriage. It is the entire marriage.
• UL in the 8th from lagna → the marriage may not be smooth.
• But UL lord Mars is in the 2nd from UL, and he is with lagna lord Mercury. The two signs are badly related; their lords are together — and in the 9th, the house of protection and bhagya. So the weakness of UL is not so bad.
• Negatives remain: 7th lord Jupiter is in the 6th, and the Navamsha has negative indications too.
• UL in the 8th or 6th does not by itself mean no marriage or big problems. It is a negative, to be weighed with the other positives and negatives.

The 2nd from an Arudha:

• Parashara, in the Arudha pada chapter, marks the 1st and 2nd from any Arudha as the most important houses.
• The 2nd is food, sustenance. A planet there that is unfavourable to the Arudha withdraws its food — it starves. A favourable one feeds it till it is fat: a very rich, very positive image.
• Here the planet in the 2nd is the Arudha's own lord.

"Being the lord of that particular Arudha, being in the 2nd house, he will feed it like anything. So he is very auspicious."

Argala on UL (Aries) in the Rashi

"Lagna and pada are for the status of the person in general. For marriage, we better see UL."

• Parashara: 1 = minimum effect, 2 = medium effect, 3 = full effect. Three is excellent.
• When the antardasha comes of a planet causing Argala on UL — Venus, Moon, Ketu, Jupiter and so on — the marriage can prosper: she can get married, or if already married have a good life with her husband.
• Ketu is one of them, and Saturn gives Ketu's results. It happened in Saturn antardasha.

PVNR then asks whether the Rashi alone is convincing. It is not: Mercury with the UL lord, Saturn with Ketu — "they are not really strong planets who definitely give that result." The Navamsha is.

Marriage — Mercury–Saturn in the Navamsha

In the Navamsha the 1st, 7th and 9th are the extremely important houses.

• Mercury: owns the 9th and occupies it in exaltation. A very strong dharmic activity.
• Saturn: exchanges houses with Venus (Saturn in Taurus, Venus in Aquarius), so Saturn can give Venus himself.
• Saturn is lagna lord and Venus is the yogakaraka. A parivartana between lagna lord and yogakaraka is very auspicious.
• Saturn aspects the 7th house, Cancer (his 3rd-house graha drishti from Taurus; Taurus also has rashi drishti on Cancer).

Argala in the Navamsha

The question: does Saturn have Argala on the houses that matter for marriage? (Taking Saturn as he stands, ignoring the parivartana.)

On lagna (Capricorn):

• Venus in the 2nd and Rahu in the 12th (reversed): both unbroken → 2.
• Saturn from the 5th: obstructed by Mercury in the 9th.
• Moon from the 11th: obstructed by Jupiter and Sun in the 3rd.
• Net 2 — medium results.

The rule PVNR draws here: if the Argala left on a house after removing the obstructions is 2 or 3, then any planet causing Argala on that house — obstructed or not — can give that house's results. So Venus, Rahu, Saturn and even Moon can give a new beginning relating to dharma.

On the 7th house (Cancer):

• Ketu in the 12th (Gemini), reversed: one Argala, unobstructed. It would be obstructed by another planet in Gemini with Ketu, or by Rahu in Leo.
• Saturn from the 11th: obstructed by Mercury in the 3rd.
• Moon from the 5th: obstructed by Jupiter and Sun in the 9th.
• Net 1 — no strong results of the 7th house can be claimed from this.

Argala on Planets (Not Just Houses)

The Principle

• Argala can be on planets as well as on signs and houses.
• Argala on a house shows conclusive results of what that house stands for. Argala on a planet shows conclusive results of that planet's significations — the agenda of that planet.
• The planets with Argala on it are the ones promoting its agenda.

"When the antardasha of a planet promoting the agenda of Venus comes, Venus's agenda can be fulfilled."

• Venus is taken because he is the karaka for marriage. One could equally take Saturn, karaka for steadfastness, struggle and suffering in dharmic life.

Argala on Venus (Aquarius) in the Navamsha

• Count planets, not houses: two causing, one obstructing, leaves one.
• Venus's significations — getting married, falling in love, dharmic life — have planets suggesting strong results. When the antardasha of Saturn, Jupiter or Sun comes, those results can be given.

Why Saturn's Antardasha Delivered

• Saturn has Argala on the 7th house, on lagna and on Venus — on several important factors.
• Full or half? See the functional nature. A functional malefic gives only half the results of his Argala.
• For this Navamsha lagna Saturn owns lagna (benefic) and the 2nd (neutral) → functional benefic. He gives his result in full.

Navamsha Narayana Dasha

• At the marriage: Taurus dasha, Aquarius antardasha.
• Parashara: the sign containing the planet that gives the Argala gives the result.
• Aquarius contains Venus — one of the two planets (with Rahu) holding the unbroken Argala on the Navamsha lagna, and the karaka for marriage.
• So what Parashara said works with Narayana dasha of the Navamsha as well as with Vimshottari.
• The class had been using the rule with Vimshottari, but Parashara specifically referred to rashi dashas — he did not say which one. Trying Narayana dasha is justified.

Tithi Pravesha Chart for 1979 — The Year of Marriage

The annual chart for 1979–80 has Aries lagna in both Rashi and Navamsha.

Ruler of the Year and the Dasha

• Saturn is the hora lord → ruler of the year.
• Tithi Ashtottari dasha on October 6: Saturn dasha, Sun antardasha. The ruler of the year gave the result.

In the TP Navamsha (Aries lagna)

• Saturn, Venus, Mercury in Leo (5th). Sun in Capricorn (10th). Jupiter in Scorpio (8th). Moon, Rahu in Virgo (6th). Mars, Ketu in Pisces (12th).
• Sun and Saturn exchange signs: 5th and 10th lords → a Raja yoga. An uncomfortable one, since Sun and Saturn are enemies, but a Raja yoga.
• 7th lord Venus is with Saturn.

Argala on lagna (Aries):

• 2nd-house Argala: Ketu in the 12th (reversed), but Mars is with him and obstructs → cancelled. (8th lord causing, lagna lord obstructing. Subjective judgments are for later; by the strict rules it is obstructed.)
• 4th and 11th: none.
• 5th house: Venus, Mercury, Saturn — the 7th lord and karaka of marriage, and the ruler of the year. Nothing in the 9th to obstruct.
• 3. The results are bound to be given.

Argala on the 7th house (Libra):

• 2nd house: Jupiter in Scorpio and Rahu in Virgo (12th, reversed); Moon in Virgo cancels one → 1.
• 11th house (Leo): 3 planets, unobstructed.
• 4th house (Capricorn): Sun, unobstructed.
• 5 planets, including 7th lord and karaka Venus himself.

"When so many people are pushing the agenda of the 7th house, the 7th house results are bound to happen."

Argala on UL (Cancer):

• 2nd house (Leo): 3.
• 5th house: Jupiter in Scorpio and Ketu in Pisces (9th, reversed); Mars in Pisces obstructs → 1.
• 4.

UL 4, 7th house 5, lagna 3: every house that matters for marriage is fortified by Argala.

Who Gives It

• Venus, Mercury and Saturn are the strong ones. Mercury is not so happy — he is the 6th lord. Venus and Saturn are definitely capable.
• Dasha or antardasha in an annual chart? Parashara's principle speaks of antardasha. Whether that holds at the annual level is not clear. PVNR's thinking: the period is already narrow — a dasha here is like a pratyantardasha or sukshma dasha of the natal chart — so consider the dasha itself.
• Whose result did Saturn give? Venus, Mercury and Saturn are together and exchange results among themselves, and Saturn also has the parivartana with Sun. "It's a mess. Let's leave it." All of them are capable.

A Side Check — Shatabdika Dasha

• Lagna is the same in Rashi and Navamsha, so the conditional dasha for vargottama lagna applies to the annual chart. Out of curiosity: who gave the marriage by it? Jupiter.
• Jupiter is 9th lord in both, but in the 8th house of the Navamsha. Not much sense.
• In Tithi Pravesha charts Tithi Ashtottari is always much better than Vimshottari; this dasha is a competitor to Vimshottari, not to Tithi Ashtottari. It does not apply well here. Stay with Tithi Ashtottari.

Husband's Death — Venus Mahadasha, Mercury Antardasha (Nov 2005)

Back in the natal chart. Mercury antardasha in Venus mahadasha had just started when the husband passed away.

The Puzzle

• Mercury is 9th lord in the 9th of the Navamsha, exalted — the witness of the marriage. Why did he take the husband?
• First answers from the students: he is also the 6th lord (of the Navamsha); a student points to A6 — separation.
• PVNR turns to the method. The spouse is seen in the Navamsha according to Parashara, so anything about the husband is read there directly. And a newly learnt principle does not replace the old ones: "Forget Argala. We will see later."

House, Lord and Their Arudhas — the Axiom

• 7th house = the relationship itself.
• A7 = the tangible manifestation of the relationship — what the world comes to see it as.
• 7th lord = the intelligence guiding the relationship. Not the husband alone: his intelligence, hers, that of an astrologer who advises them — all of it together.
• L7, Arudha of the 7th lord = the specific person who matters to that relationship. The husband himself.

"L7, the Arudha of the lord of the 7th house — that is the key factor when you are looking at husband. Any specific thing that happened to husband."

The same holds for father, mother or child: for something happening to the actual person, take the Arudha of the lord.

Finding L7 in This Navamsha

• 7th house = Cancer. 7th lord Moon is debilitated in Scorpio.
• Arudha of a lord: count from the lord to his house, then the same count again from the house. (If the lord owns two houses, take the stronger.)
• Moon to Cancer = 9. The 9th from Cancer = Pisces. L7 = Pisces.
• A7 is also Pisces here (Cancer to Moon = 5; the 5th from Scorpio = Pisces).

Thumb rule: if a house and its lord are in mutual trines, the Arudha of the house and the Arudha of the lord fall together — in the third trine.

When they differ — worked on the 11th house of the same Navamsha, Scorpio, whose lord Mars is in Capricorn:

• A11: Scorpio to Mars = 3; the 3rd from Capricorn = Pisces.
• L11: Mars to Scorpio = 11; the 11th from Scorpio = Virgo.

Why Venus–Mercury Took the Husband

Reckoned from L7, Pisces:

• 2nd and 7th lords are strong marakas. A 7th lord in the 7th is a strong maraka.
• The 8th lord, when weak, is also a maraka.
• 3rd and 8th are the houses that give longevity; 2nd and 7th withdraw it.
• So: dasha of the 8th lord, antardasha of the 7th lord in the 7th — who is again the 8th lord from the dasha lord.

"In the dasha of the 8th lord and the antardasha of the 7th lord, the husband passed away. Does it make sense or not? It makes very good sense."

How Did He Die? — Left Open

PVNR asks only for the principle, not the answer.

• A student: the 3rd from AL. PVNR: the 3rd from AL shows how the person's own tangible manifestation ends. For how the marriage ended — husband dying of disease, or by accident — should it be the 3rd from UL? And in Rashi or Navamsha?
• Students: Rashi, because it is physical. PVNR: are the things in the Navamsha not physical?
• Arudhas are always physical, in every chart. Each divisional chart is one conceptual area of life; the Arudhas in it show the physical things of that area. A4 in the chart of vehicles is the car — a physical car. D-24 is learning, a concept; the Arudhas of its 4th and 9th houses are the school you go to and the teacher who teaches you.
