Leo Lagna 1964 Knee Analysis: 10L Venus in 6H + Saturn(6L) Aspecting 10H + Moon(12L) on 10H = Triple Link; D30 Badhaka Lord in 8H Scorpio = Serious Suffering; Pitta-Vata (60%Pitta+25%Vata); Yogaraj Guggulu + Fennel/Licorice/Turmeric Tea + Mahanarayan Oil + No Red Chili; D20 Aquarius (5L Mercury in 5H = Devoted; 9L Venus 93% = Ritualistic); Lalitha Confirmed by Practice

A Leo-lagna native has severe knee trouble in Saturn mahādaśā. The 10th house is the knees: its lord Venus is in the 6th in maraṇa kāraka sthāna, and the 6th lord Saturn and 12th lord Moon aspect it. D-30 sets the severity: Saturn is the bādhaka lord in the 8th in Scorpio. The teacher works out the doṣa (the knee is mostly vāta; the body is pitta-led and tridoṣic), then gives the measures — yogarāj guggulu, no heating spices, fennel and licorice, a medicated knee oil — and the propitiation of Saturn or Hanumān. The D-20 lagna sits on the Aquarius–Pisces border and is fixed as Aquarius from her Lalitā worship; the chart shows patient, rule-following, devoted practice, and Moon and Mercury aspecting the 12th from the ātmakāraka confirm the deity.

Key principle

She is on the right path and she will have some experiences in the next 7 years.

Example Chart

Example chart — Leo lagna, knees and D-20 upāsanā (1964)
Jan 7, 1964 · 8:44 PM IST
Leo lagna 4°27′, Moon in Libra. D-1: Mars, Venus and Saturn in Capricorn, the 6th — Venus is the 10th lord (knees), Saturn the 6th lord and daśā lord; Moon and Saturn aspect the empty 10th, Taurus. Sun in Sagittarius. D-30: Aries lagna, bādhaka lord Saturn in Scorpio, the 8th (the site shows Venus there too, on the 25° boundary; the class reads Venus in the 7th). D-20: Aquarius lagna at the very end of the sign; Saturn exalted in Libra (9th sign, read as the 8th house by longitude); Moon and Mercury in Gemini, the 5th; Venus and Jupiter in Leo aspect the lagna.

Knee Problems — Leo Lagna, 1964

Native: female, born January 7, 1964, 8:44 PM IST. Lagna 4°27' Leo, Moon 3°44' Libra.
Complaint: severe trouble in the knees that began suddenly. Saturn mahādaśā is running.

A student guessed a watery sign. The teacher: knee problems can come from excess water or from too little lubrication. Kapha, pitta or vāta — nothing is off the table at the start.

Step 1 — Is the 10th house weak?

  • The earlier thumb rule (the house occupied by the 6th lord, the sign of the 8th lord) shows nothing here.
  • Houses and the body: 1 head, 2 face, 3 neck and throat, 4 heart and lungs, 5 upper stomach, 6 lower stomach and liver, 7 kidneys and the parts further down, 8 the hidden parts, 9 thighs, 10 knees and calves, 11 lower calves and ankles, 12 feet.
  • A knee problem needs a weakness in the 10th house or its lord.
  • 10th house (Taurus): no occupants. Aspects on it: Moon 75%, Saturn 69%. Moon is the 12th lord. Saturn is the 6th lord in the 6th. The lords of loss and of disease aspect the 10th.
  • 10th lord Venus is in the 6th house, Capricorn. That is also his maraṇa kāraka sthāna.
  • The earlier rule read the disease from the house the 6th lord occupies. The reverse also works: whichever lord is in the 6th, the body part of his house can suffer.

Step 2 — Daśā

  • Saturn owns the 6th and 7th for Leo lagna. The 7th is neutral for him; the 6th makes him a malefic.
  • He is in the 6th, aspects the 10th, and is the dispositor of the 10th lord. He can give knee problems.
  • Antardaśās: Saturn's own and then Venus's (2006–2009) were the bad ones — Venus is the 10th lord in the 6th. The Sun's, as lagna lord, had some chance of relief and is over. The Moon's is running; as 12th lord he shows no relief. Mars comes next.
  • No real relief while Saturn daśā lasts. It is also unlikely to get much worse, because the worst antardaśās are behind her.

Step 3 — Which doṣa in the knee

  • If Venus were the giver it would be kapha. But the problem came in Saturn daśā, so it is mostly vāta.
  • Capricorn holds Mars (2°, exalted), Venus (25°) and Saturn (nearly 28°). Venus is far closer to Saturn than to Mars. Leave Mars out; pitta is not the issue in the knee.

"This particular problem related to knees is because of Saturn mainly. So I will say 80% vāta, 20% kapha."

  • Dryness, worn joints, not enough lubrication, pain — the arthritis kind of condition Saturn gives.

Step 4 — D-30: how severe

Even a badly placed planet in the rāśi chart does not give serious suffering if it is well placed in D-30.

  • D-30 lagna is Aries. Saturn is the bādhaka lord, in Scorpio, the 8th.
  • A link between bādhaka, 8th and 6th is bad. Here a natural malefic who is bādhaka lord sits in the 8th in a very evil sign.
  • Serious suffering in Saturn daśā. Whatever the rāśi chart shows will be intense.
  • Again it is Saturn that stands out, not Venus. The teacher takes Scorpio as hot: hot and dry conditions in the knee, and the dryness is what must be treated.
  • The teacher places D-30 Venus in the 7th house. The site's chart has Venus on the 25° boundary and shows it in Scorpio with Saturn.

Step 5 — Constitution

  • Lagna lord Sun, a fiery planet, is in a fiery sign (Sagittarius). Pitta.
  • Aspects on lagna: Mars 98% (pitta), Saturn 94% (vāta), Venus 92% (kapha), Rāhu 100% (vāta).
  • Pitta is strongest. Saturn and Rāhu together put vāta ahead of kapha. She is tridoṣic.
  • No strong aspect on the Sun; ignored.
  • Body: 60–65% pitta, 20–25% vāta, the rest kapha. A hot and dry body.
  • Mind: Jupiter has 86% aspect on the Moon. Mentally kapha — stable, possibly lazy.

Step 6 — Ayurvedic measures

For vāta in the joints

  • Yogarāj guggulu. Guggulu is a resin, combined with other things into many preparations (kaiśora guggulu, triphalā guggulu and so on). Yogarāj guggulu removes vāta from the neuromuscular system.
  • Why it is needed: dryness belongs in the colon, pitta in the stomach, kapha in the lungs. Wrong food, poor sleep and stress send them elsewhere. The dryness spreads into nerves and muscles.
  • Mahānārāyaṇa tailam massaged into the knees and left to soak.

Diet — a strongly pitta chart

  • Such a chart loves spices, and they are poison for it.
  • No chilli, no pepper, no cloves, no mustard seed. If she must have chilli, green, never red.
  • Āvakāya — mango in mustard powder and red chilli powder — is a triple pitta combination.
  • Allowed: coriander seed, cumin seed and fennel seed in equal parts. A little cinnamon is tolerable, not good.
  • Buttermilk with chopped fresh coriander after every meal. "That is like amṛta for her."

"If she is doing that and also eating a lot of āvakāya, it won't help. It's basically like you are taking poison and amṛta together. They will cancel each other. Or poison may still remain."

For the inflammation

  • Vāta gives dryness; pitta gives inflammation and swelling. Both may be there.
  • Licorice (yaṣṭimadhu, "the stick of honey") soothes inflammation.
  • Tea: boil fennel seed and licorice in water, let it stand an hour, filter, drink warm. It is very cooling, so add a pinch of turmeric to balance. Sugar if wanted; licorice is already sweet.

Why not simply cool or simply heat

  • Pitta is treated with cooling substances. Vāta is cool and dry, so it is treated with heating ones.
  • Here the condition is hot and dry. Cooling troubles vāta; heating feeds pitta. What is needed is neutral in temperature and moistening.
  • Dry weather with the heater running gets drier still. Extra moisture is the need.

Knee oil

  • Heat mahānārāyaṇa tailam or plain sesame oil with licorice, fennel seed and aśvagandhā. Aśvagandhā counters vāta; licorice and fennel soothe.
  • Leave it some days, heat again, leave again. After about a week filter it and massage the knees with it.

These are the tip of the iceberg. A proper Ayurvedic doctor should diagnose by pulse. From the chart: a vāta problem with some pitta in it.

Step 7 — Propitiation

Saturn is the key.

  • The Atharva Veda mantra for Saturn given by Parāśara, beginning "Śaṁ no devī…". (The rest is not clear on the recording.) Atharva Veda mantras prescribed by the ṛṣis are tuned for prayoga, for results.
  • If the svara is a difficulty: the 108 names of Saturn, powerful in Kali Yuga.
  • The 16 names of Saturn from the story of Daśaratha. The promise is that all problems go; in Kali Yuga it is not that easy, but steady repetition helps.
  • Because the problem is physical, Śani Kavacam also suits.
  • Any of the mantra options in the teacher's Śani homa manual can be chanted, or the homa itself learnt.
  • The other route is Hanumān. Saturn is with Mars, in Mars's nakshatra, and in a sign of Mars in D-30. Hanumān Chālīsā.

D-20 (Viṁśāṁśa) — Same Chart

Fixing the lagna

  • The D-20 lagna is on the border of Aquarius and Pisces.
  • What is known of her practice: a great deal of Lalitā worship — the gentle form of the Mother, not the raudra forms.
  • Pisces lagna: 5th lord Moon is with Mercury, which can show Lalitā. But Rāhu and Ketu sit in the 5th, Cancer, and would show an ugra form as well.
  • Aquarius lagna: 5th lord Mercury is in his own sign Gemini, the 5th, with the Moon. A very sāttvic form of the Mother — Sarasvatī by Mercury, or Lalitā, Pārvatī, Umā, Gaurī by the Moon.
  • Her attachment to Lalitā Sahasranāma and Śrī Vidyā says Aquarius is probably right.

Reading it

  • Lagna in D-20 is the spiritual self and spiritual potential.
  • Lagna lord Saturn is exalted in Libra. That gives strength and potential. The teacher reads him in the 8th house: the lagna is at the very end of Aquarius, so by longitude Saturn falls in the 8th, though Libra is the 9th sign.
  • Lagna lord in the 8th: someone who can spend long hours on pūjā. Many can sit five or ten minutes. She can sit an hour or two, with discipline and patience. A Saturnine lagna adds patience.
  • 5th lord Mercury is strong in his own sign (in the 4th house by longitude). The 5th is devotion. Very devoted.
  • Saturn and Mercury together: she follows the rules — bathe first, keep the place clean. Strict, patient, devoted.
  • Aspects on the lagna: Venus 93%, Jupiter 77%.
    • Venus is the 9th lord, of dharma and religion. Some people are spiritual and dislike ritual. With the 9th lord closely aspecting lagna she is ritual-minded.
    • Jupiter is the 2nd and 11th lord. A student guessed mantra; the teacher corrected it — the 2nd is family, the 11th friends. She wants family and friends in her practice: "Let's do this pūjā, come sit." Not someone who does it alone and does not care who joins.

The current daśā

  • In the rāśi daśā used for spiritual progress, Libra is running, 2010–2017. (The name is unclear on the recording; the teacher's description — Libra as the progression of the 9th house — fits Dṛg daśā.)
  • Libra carries the 9th house, so the progressed 1st house is Aquarius. Take Aquarius as lagna in the rāśi chart: Mars, Venus and Saturn — Aquarius's own lord among them — are in the 12th.
  • That favours detachment and inner experience.

"In these 7 years, she can develop a good level of detachment. So this is a good period for doing intense sādhanā."

  • This daśā is likely to be the peak of her spiritual life.

Is Lalitā the right worship?

  • Ātmakāraka is Saturn, at 15°43' Libra in D-20. The 12th from him is 15°43' Virgo.
  • Aspects on that point: Mars at 15° Taurus, half. Moon at 10°34' Gemini and Mercury at 17° Gemini, almost 75% each.
  • Moon and Mercury are in the 9th from the ātmakāraka — the dharma devatā — and aspect the 12th from him. Mercury is also the lord of that 12th.
  • Mercury in a sign of the Moon can show Viṣṇu. Mercury with the Moon, the Moon dominating, shows Lalitā or Pārvatī, not Durgā. If Viṣṇu, Mercury with Moon shows Kṛṣṇa. Mercury can also show Sarasvatī.
  • So Śrī Vidyā upāsanā is a good line for her. Viṣṇu Sahasranāma may be added. She needs no Caṇḍī, Durgā or other sādhanā.

"She is on the right path and she will have some experiences in the next 7 years."
