Lady with Bone Marrow Disease (1951)

The Case

• Lagna 2°48' Gemini. Moon 10°17' Leo. The time had been rectified earlier.
• Hospitalized around February–March 2008 and bedridden about four months. A bone marrow problem; the exact diagnosis was not known to the class. A donor for a bone marrow transplant was being sought.
• The student who brought the chart had earlier said only that she should take care. He had not expected it to be this bad.

Which Dasha — Chaturasiti Sama Dasha

• 10th lord Jupiter is in the 10th house (Pisces). When the 10th lord is in the 10th, the conditional dasha Chaturasiti Sama Dasha applies.

"This is the one recommended by Parasara for this chart."

• Running: Saturn dasha, Mars antardasha (June 2007 to March 2009).

Saturn Dasha, Mars Antardasha — Rasi Chart

Saturn:

• 8th lord for Gemini (also 9th lord).
• A6 is in a sign of Saturn. The 6th is disease; A6 is the disease as it manifests. Saturn is lord of the 8th and of A6.
• In the 4th house, a quadrant. Saturn is well placed in 3, 6, 11, not in the 4th.

Mars:

• 6th + 11th lord, a functional malefic for Gemini, sitting in lagna: the lord of disease afflicting the body.
• He is also the Atmakaraka.
• No planet is in Mrityu Bhaga.

Drekkanas:

• Mars is in an Ayudha (weapon) drekkana — big harm to the body. Saturn is in a fire drekkana. Both evil.
• A planet in an evil drekkana gives harsher results; in a soft one the problem is not very serious. Sarpa (snake) is bad. Mriga-shubha ("auspicious animal") and Chatushpada (quadruped) are examples of the other names; Mandi here is in Mriga-shubha.

"Any Mars antardasha is capable of giving a bodily blow, especially in Saturn dasha."

The Hospitalization — Venus Pratyantardasha

• Within Saturn–Mars, Venus pratyantardasha ran March 18 to June 17, 2008.
• Venus is 12th lord (also 5th), conjoined with lagna lord Mercury and with Ketu.
• Ketu is the other 6th lord. Mars shows diseases easy to diagnose; Ketu and Rahu show ones that are tough to diagnose.
• Venus gives bed rest and hospitalization on account of a hard-to-diagnose disease.

"When you look at a sub-sub-phase, you have to see it from the context of the sub-phase. When you look at the sub-phase, you have to see it from the context of the main phase that is running."

• Not every Venus pratyantardasha does this; it comes every couple of years. It does so inside a 6th lord's antardasha in an 8th lord's dasha.

Why D6 Must Confirm

From the rasi chart alone, 8th lord dasha with 6th lord antardasha could be an accident, failed exams, trouble at work, even divorce (6th and 8th end a marriage) — "15–20 different possibilities." To call it a serious disease it must show in D6, the chart of tangible physical disease.

D6, Aries lagna:

• Saturn is Badhaka lord (11th lord of a movable lagna) in Scorpio, the 8th house. The 6th, the 8th and the Badhaka in D6 show big ill health.
• Mars is lagna lord and 8th lord in the 6th house of disease.

"Don't think that lagna lord protects you, not in D6. In D6, lagna lord's job is to give you ill health."

• Both running lords are in the 6th and 8th of D6, and Saturn links the Badhakasthana. Disease confirmed.

Lagna Lord in a Divisional Chart

• The lagna lord of the rasi chart is protection.
• In a divisional chart, lagna and lagna lord are the self from the point of view of that chart's area of life.
  • D24: self in learning.
  • D10: self as expressed in professional life.
  • D9: self as expressed in marital, dharmic life.
  • D6: self from the point of view of ill health. He does not necessarily protect; he can show the illness.

Mercury Antardasha (from March 2009)

In rasi: Mercury is the lagna lord. "The lagna lord never wants to harm the person. If he is weak, he is unable to help, but he never harms." Saturn is also 9th lord, and Mercury and Saturn are friends. Mercury antardasha is to be looked forward to.

In D6: Mercury is 3rd + 6th lord in Cancer, the 4th house, with Badhaka lord Rahu and 8th lord Ketu.

• 3rd and 6th are houses of fight-back. He shows fighting the disease — medication, a recovery procedure — not good health.
• He owns her physical body in the rasi chart; it is not in his interest to destroy it. He is the greatest benefactor of her physical well-being.
• He is in a quadrant, in fruitful, sattvic Cancer. "Planets in Cancer tend to give good results easily and bad results with difficulty." Planets in signs of Saturn and Mars do the reverse.
• Mercury is a friend of Rahu and Ketu, so he has better luck talking them into walking away.
• Counted from dasha lord Saturn (Scorpio), Mercury is 8th + 11th lord in the 9th — the Badhakasthana for a fixed sign. He cannot give complete recovery.

Prediction: the fear that she may die goes. A new lease of life — probably a donor found, the procedure successful, some comfort. But not fully well: still largely bedridden and on medicines. "Complete recovery is several years away, if at all possible."

Remedy — Narasimha

• A student suggested Kali for Mars. The teacher chose Narasimha (Hanuman is the other choice for Mars).
• Mars is in a sign of Mercury in both charts — Gemini in rasi, Virgo in D6. Mercury is Vishnu. Narasimha, an avatar of Vishnu, appeases Mars and strengthens Mercury together.
• Objection: why strengthen the 6th lord? "We are not strengthening, we are praying. We are not wearing the gemstone. For praying, even the worst malefic you can pray."
• The mantra: the 32-syllable "ugram viram maha-vishnum". One hour every day, same time, same place. If she cannot, someone attached to her who has a stake in her staying alive does it for her.
• "It will definitely work in this case." For the child, Chandi Path will work but slowly — the afflictions there are too serious. Here there is more hope.

Maraka Periods — Chaturasiti Sama Dasha

• 2nd and 7th lords are killers. 3rd and 8th lords are killers if badly placed in the 2nd or 7th, or afflicted.
• Saturn (8th lord): more a disease-giver than a killer. A very weak killer; unlikely to kill.
• Mars antardasha: not a killer. Mercury: definitely not.
• Jupiter: 7th lord, so a killer — and very strong in his own house in the 10th. "Killer is relaxing at his own home. He can trigger the bullet from his own home." Saturn–Jupiter, November 2010 to August 2012, is a concern, but the mahadasha lord is no great killer, so probably not then.
• Venus: 5th + 12th lord in the 3rd. Not a killer by the classics.
• Sun: 3rd lord in the 2nd — "a perfect killer." Moon: 2nd lord in the 3rd. Both killers.
• Sun dasha begins May 2014. Sun–Sun and Sun–Moon, May 2014 to October 2017, are the grave danger. "Once the Sun dasha comes, it will be very difficult to save her."

Shoola Dasha

Shoola is Shiva's trident; this dasha is specifically for longevity, serious trouble and death.

• Running: Sagittarius — the 3rd from Arudha Lagna, but with no serious afflictions. It has only the potential.
• Next: Capricorn — the 8th from lagna, and aspected by the evil combination of planets (the group in Leo aspects it by rasi drishti). Capricorn is probably the dasha, and it agrees with the Sun dasha after May 2014.

Conclusion: no danger to life now. "She may have to suffer, she may have to stay in the hospital for a while, but she will live."

Tithi Pravesha 2008–09

Her lunar birthday in 2008 falls on August 3.

• Lagna Leo, full of planets — "a rebirth kind of year."
• Hora lord Venus: 3rd + 10th lord in lagna. Not too great, not too bad. But he is in the first three degrees of Leo — Gandanta. A delicate year.
• 5th lord Jupiter is in the 5th and aspects lagna (9th-house aspect, fairly close in degree). The best thing in the chart.
• Saturn and Mars are together in lagna: a year of some suffering.
• Worst: lagna lord Sun is in the 12th, his Marana Karaka Sthana, with Ketu — eclipsed.
• The 12th is strong. Even if she comes home she keeps visiting hospitals and doctors. Not a year of full relief.

Tithi Pravesha 2009–10

• Hora lord Mars: a quadrant lord in a quadrant, with the yogakaraka. Decent.
• Jupiter is in lagna. Lagna lord Saturn aspects lagna closely from a quadrant.
• It has weaknesses but looks much better. "The next year will be the year when there will be more recovery."
• "Whatever is shown in the horoscope, the degree can actually be modified with prayer."

The site's charts for both years match the class (Leo lagna and hora lord Venus; Aquarius lagna and hora lord Mars). The site puts the 2008 Venus at about 2°13' Leo; the recording sounds like 2°50'. Either is inside the first three degrees.
