Example Chart — Career Recognition and Vision Analysis

The Rāśi Chart

A student in the class: a web application developer who began as a hardware engineer.

Lagna: Pisces 18°33' with Saturn in lagna (2°46' Pisces). Rahu at 18°29' Aries in the 2nd. Mars and Ketu in Libra in the 8th. Jupiter retrograde in Cancer in the 5th. Navamsha lagna Sagittarius.

Vision Problems

• 10th house = Sagittarius. Its most significant point is 18°33', the degree of the lagna.
• Saturn aspects it from the lagna (10th aspect), but from 2°46' — "a very border aspect".
• Rahu at 18°29' Aries throws the 9th-house aspect — 4 minutes from exact.

"Rahu sees right at the bullseye."

• A student objects that the time may need rectifying. Even a couple of degrees of change leaves Rahu within 5°.
• "The real role is being played by Saturn and Rahu. Mainly Rahu, more than Saturn."
• The native says the trouble is always in the right eye; the left is fine. That fits: the right eye is the 2nd house, and Rahu sits in it. The 2nd is weak because of Rahu, and the 2nd lord Mars is afflicted by Ketu.
• An explosion once hurt that eye. Ketu shows explosions and sits with the 2nd lord Mars in the 8th. That is injury to the eye, not loss of vision. Ketu in the 8th "has nothing to do with him wearing eyeglasses".
• The onset should link to Saturn and Rahu in daśā, or at least in transit.

Rahu in the 2nd — Money

A student asks if a strong Rahu in the 2nd gives money in Rahu daśā.

• From lagna: Rahu is the 12th lord in the 2nd — he may give and make you spend. The 2nd is not one of Rahu's good houses. "Neutral or below average."
• For money and material status, look from Arudha Lagna. AL is Scorpio (lagna lord Jupiter in the 5th; the 5th from Cancer). Rahu is in the 6th from AL: "overcoming all the obstacles, killing all the enemies and being very successful."
• Whenever Rahu's daśā or antardaśā comes, the native is seen as an achiever. Always give importance to AL for material things.

Jupiter — The Planet of Fortune

• Jupiter is the 2nd and 5th lord from AL, placed in the 9th from AL.
• In Navamsha he is lagna lord in the 9th (Sagittarius lagna, Jupiter in Leo). Navamsha is the key chart for fortune, so Jupiter shows fortune in both charts.
• But in rāśi he is exalted and retrograde. "Exalted retrograde planets are referred to as debilitated planets." A yoga-bhaṅga of sorts: much fortune is written, but he must work hard to find the key.
• Remedy: pray to Jupiter through a guru figure — Dattātreya, Dakṣiṇāmūrti, Sai Baba.
• Double benefit: Jupiter is also the 10th lord, so the remedy protects the vision, and he is the lagna lord of rāśi and Navamsha, so it supports overall well-being.

D10 Rectification — Taurus vs Aries Lagna

The native's complaint: "Why in the job do I have to keep fighting?" — recognition at work is low.

• The Dashamsha lagna is on a border. It changes at 18°; the lagna is 18°33'. About 1 minute 46 seconds earlier it would be Aries instead of Taurus.
• Planets (Taurus lagna): Mercury, Jupiter, Ketu in Aries (12th). Mars, Rahu in Libra (6th). Saturn, debilitated Moon in Scorpio (7th). Venus in Pisces (11th). Sun in Capricorn (9th).
• The class first votes Aries: Mercury, 3rd and 6th lord, in lagna with Jupiter and Ketu — software as the main career.
• PVNR asks what he did first. Hardware, in R&D; software came later.

Why Taurus:

• The 6th house is strong, with two planets — Mars and Rahu — and they aspect the lagna (Mars by his 8th aspect; both by rāśi dṛṣṭi from Libra to Taurus). The career therefore began with Mars and Rahu: hardware.
• With Aries lagna Mars and Rahu fall in the 7th and the hardware start cannot be explained.
• The 2nd house is weak, but the 2nd lord Mercury is strong, with Jupiter and Ketu. He gives resources to work with. "Mercury and Ketu can show a computer." The class notes read it as Mercury with Ketu (software) in Aries (engineering).
• Mercury sits in the 12th: a move abroad may be needed, or a sense of giving something up — compromise. The 12th is foreign countries: he works as a software engineer in the USA. With the 8th lord Jupiter beside Mercury, working abroad can bring trouble or anxiety.
• A student points out that with Aries the 8th lord would be involved, giving tension. The same holds for Taurus: Jupiter is the 8th lord. Alone in the 12th he would give a rāja yoga. Here he afflicts Mercury, the 5th lord of recognition, and Ketu, co-lord of the 7th. An important combination in the 12th means compromise; Jupiter gives "a nagging sense of unhappiness".
• 10th lord Saturn in the 7th aspects lagna. Saturn remains a planet of service even in the 7th. With the debilitated Moon: an unhappy, fluctuating mind at work.

A5 — Recognition Analysis

Recognition and promotion are read from A5, the manifestation of the 5th house.

Taurus lagna — A5 is in Scorpio (5th lord Mercury is in the 8th from Virgo; the 8th from Aries is Scorpio).

• A quadrant from lagna, so there is some recognition.
• It holds Saturn and the debilitated Moon. Its lord Mars is in the 12th from it.
• Saturn is yogakāraka here and gives yoga, but "Saturn never gives full recognition. You have to work hard and then you will get some recognition."

"Sun, Jupiter, all these planets who are plentiful — them being in A5 shows a lot of reputation. Saturn is a planet of depletion. It's not a planet of plentifulness."

• The class notes list Sun, Jupiter or Venus in A5 as giving a lot of recognition.
• Moon + Saturn = depletion of the mental energy. Linked to A5: "whatever recognition he gets will make him sad." His perception is that he is not recognised, though some recognition is there.

Aries lagna — A5 would be in Gemini: the 2nd house, a good house for an ārūḍha; no planets in it; Venus aspects it; its lord Mercury is in the 11th from it with Jupiter. No serious affliction — "there should be very good recognition".

That is not his experience. Taurus is confirmed, and the students who voted Aries agree.

Which Planet to Propitiate — Moon or Saturn

• Moon, debilitated 3rd lord: weak initiative. Not laziness — "Taurus lagna people are usually not lazy" — but he thinks and plans before he starts. Praying to the Moon raises initiative and energy.
• Saturn is the key planet for career. In rāśi he is in lagna — maraṇa kāraka sthāna for Saturn — and aspects the 10th. In D10 he is the 9th and 10th lord, yogakāraka, aspecting lagna, and the lord of AL in the 11th from AL (D10 AL is Capricorn), able to give much gain. "Somebody with good intentions not being able to do what he wants to do." Prayed to, he gives the yoga and recognition — but, being Saturn, he expects work.

Service vs Business

• 7th house (business): Saturn and the debilitated 3rd lord Moon.
• 6th house (service): Mars and Rahu. "The 6th is much stronger than the 7th."
• The 7th lord Mars sits in the 6th. He is giving service, but his agenda is independence. After a lot of service the native may do something independent. The class notes place that in Mars daśā: service first, then independent work.
• Mars is active now, so he has started to think that service is not good enough. With Mars and Rahu in the 6th, "he is not very likely to be happy in the next several years".
• "Once Rahu comes anywhere, it will be only service."
• Advice: a business would be a passing phase and not very successful; he would work in it as hard as if he worked for somebody else. He will want to do it, but he is better off in service.

Kali Worship — Selecting the Form Based on Sign

The remedy chosen for the Moon–Saturn pair in the D10.

• Moon and Saturn together, in a Mars sign (Scorpio): Kali, or some form of Chandi.
• Read the 7th adhyāya of the Chaṇḍīpāṭh — where she kills Chaṇḍa and Muṇḍa and becomes known as Chāmuṇḍā.
• A student asks whether a female deity is chosen because a planet is debilitated. "Usually for debilitated planets, female deity." The Moon is debilitated; Saturn is not, but the remedy is for the combination.

• "Sagittarius is slightly different."
• Moon alone in a Jupiter sign: Tārā or Sarasvatī.

"The Kali who helps you cross the ocean of this life. Not the Kali who kills all the demons. Not the aggressive Kali, but the peaceful Kali."

• He likens this to the way Ramakrishna worshipped Kali. The class notes name the form: Tāraṇa Kālī, the Kali whom Ramakrishna Paramahamsa worshipped.
• The timing was right. The same Moon–Saturn pair stands in the 10th house of this year's annual chart, and Saturn's period was a few weeks away. A week of the reading before it starts, and Saturn gives his results more fully.

Simhasana Yoga and Shashi Yoga

Both came up in the native's 2006 annual chart (Part 11), where Saturn and the Moon are together in Cancer in the 10th from Libra lagna.

Simhasana Yoga

• Saturn in Cancer, with Cancer being either the 10th house or the lagna. A rāja yoga.
• As a sign Cancer is not a good place for Saturn. For Libra lagna, Saturn in Cancer in the 10th is excellent: "He gives kingdom."
• Separate from that, Saturn is yogakāraka for Libra and Taurus lagnas, because he owns a quadrant and a trine. In the annual chart he is both yogakāraka and giver of Simhasana yoga.

"Don't contest for mayor, because this is only the annual chart. It should be there in your natal chart."

Moon and Saturn Together, Both Strong

"Moon and Saturn is not always sad."

• If Moon and Saturn are together and both strong, the pair is a yoga. It gives a lot of energy. "You become insensitive to pain, to yourself or to others. You just hurt anybody, including yourself, to get what you need to get done."
• The recording is unclear on the name; it most often sounds like Śakti Yoga, and PVNR ties it to the worship of a form of Śakti. The published class notes write it as Shashi Yoga.
• The weak pair — as in the native's D10, Moon debilitated — is the depleted, unhappy one.

2006 ATP Analysis (Annual Chart)

Tithi Praveśa: January 17, 2006, 1:12:56 AM IST. The year runs to February 4, 2007.

• Rāśi: Libra lagna. Saturn and Moon in Cancer (10th). Mars in Aries (7th). Jupiter in lagna. AL in Aquarius.
• D10: Capricorn lagna. Saturn in Cancer (7th). Mercury in Leo (8th). Sun, Venus, Ketu in Virgo (9th). Mars in Scorpio (11th). Jupiter in Taurus (5th). Rahu in Pisces (3rd). AL in Libra.
• Hora lord = Mars, the ruler of the year. In the 7th in rāśi; in D10 in the 11th in his own sign. He is in his own sign in both charts (Aries, Scorpio), so he is strong. The ruler of the year shows a lot of gain: in D10 his agenda is gains in career.
• The periods run Mars, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu, Venus, Sun, Moon — the Ashtottari order, compressed into the year. Mars had only a few days at the start and returns for a few days at the end.

Mercury — February 8 to April 10 (running at the time of the class)

• In D10 Mercury is the 6th and 9th lord in the 8th. 6th lord in the 8th is a good yoga.
• But the 8th lord Sun is in the 9th and the 9th lord Mercury in the 8th — a parivartana of the 8th and 9th lords. "It's a duryoga. It's a terrible yoga."
• Which wins? He is more the 9th lord: the 9th — fortune, guidance, protection — is much the stronger house, with several planets in it. Virgo is also Mercury's exaltation and mūlatrikoṇa sign, so he is stronger as lord of Virgo. So: a break or fall in fortune.
• Not a time when the boss takes his side. The Sun is involved and is with Ketu, so there can be politics at the workplace. Advice for such a period: stay out of it.
• The native confirms: politics at work is making him unhappy and has removed his protection.

Saturn — April 10 to May 16

• D10: lagna lord in the 7th, aspecting lagna. Strong desire and motivation; he safeguards the career. A lagna lord does not harm the lagna.
• Rāśi: lord of AL in the 6th from AL — vanquishing rivals. Yogakāraka (4th and 5th lord) in the 10th with the 10th lord Moon, giving Simhasana yoga and the Moon–Saturn yoga.
• Saturn is all the stronger for being in Cancer, where he gives Simhasana yoga. Praying to Kali for the Moon–Saturn pair helps here too.
• "He will feel like a king" — tempered by transits and other things, but a great relief. Less vulnerable, more valued.
• Saturn is against change; a change of job in his period is very unlikely.

Jupiter — May 16 to July 21

• D10: 3rd and 12th lord in the 5th house of recognition. The 3rd lord in the 5th can give a short break and then a better job — or a change within the company.
• Rāśi: in the 9th from AL — protects the status.
• D10: in the 8th from AL — "benefic in the 8th is good"; a sudden rise.
• A very good chance of some rise in this period.

Rahu — July 21 to September 3

• In the 3rd house of D10, a good house for Rahu. "He is again excellent."
• In D10 he is also in the 6th from AL (Pisces from Libra).
• April 10 to September 3 is an excellent stretch.

Venus — September 3 to November 16

• Yogakāraka for the D10 lagna. Debilitated, but retrograde, so he acts as if exalted.
• He is in the 9th with the Sun — kāraka of the boss — and Ketu. A very good time, with some tension from the boss now and then: the Sun and Ketu afflict him in the 9th.

Sun — November 16 to December 7

• The Sun is the other half of the duryoga. There is a parivartana, so he may give something, but it is hard to say what.
• Expect politics again. "Don't do anything political at that time. It will happen by itself."

"You can't avoid the spark. At least let it remain a spark. Don't let it become a wildfire."

Overall: the worst ends on April 10; another bad patch comes in November–December; otherwise a good year.
