Rāśi Analysis

• 10th house (Pisces): Mercury 8°, Sun 12°, Moon 12°, Venus 14° — a close conjunction of four planets.
  • Mercury (lagna lord) and Venus (5th lord) give a nice Raja yoga.
  • It is spoiled by the Amavasya yoga in the same house. The 2nd lord Moon and the 3rd lord Sun are not welcome there.
  • Venus is retrograde and Mercury is debilitated. Their dispositor Jupiter could have saved them had he been strong; he is not.
• 10th lord Jupiter: debilitated in the 8th with Rahu. "So there is some problem relating to the 10th house."
• Saturn: 8th and 9th lord, so a functional benefic; a natural malefic in the 3rd is well placed. "Saturn is excellent even though he is in an inimical sign."
• Mars: 6th lord in the 9th. Not great, not bad. Mars and Saturn aspect each other by graha dṛṣṭi (7th aspect), so the 6th and 8th lords are linked with one of them in the 3rd — something like a Viparīta yoga. Mars is OK.
• Ketu: 6th lord in the 2nd. Not great.
• Jupiter: 7th and 10th lord debilitated in the 8th. He is a maraka. The worst planet in the chart.
• Rahu: 9th lord in the 8th, the 12th from his own house. The 9th is the fortune and the religiousness of the country. Not good.

What the Amavasya Yoga Hits

"For US it's affecting the government, the executive branch of the government, the 10th house. So some problems in the executive wing of government are possible during the year."

• It also eclipses the lagna lord Mercury.
• The 7th house of relations can be strained too.
• He repeats it at the end of the class: the 10th is the most beaten-down house, so some instability in the government is possible this year.

Ṣaṣṭyāṁśa

• Jupiter is in Purīṣaka aṁśa (excrement). Not a good ṣaṣṭyāṁśa; it shows undesirable things.
• Sun and Moon are together in Kaṇṭaka ("thorn") aṁśa: two planets giving Amavasya yoga, in a thorn aṁśa, eclipsing the lagna lord.

Navāṁśa (Aquarius Lagna)

• Sun and Moon are in the 9th, the bhāgya sthāna (Libra), with Saturn and Ketu. Saturn and Ketu afflicting Sun and Moon is not desirable.
• Moon does not mind Libra, a sign of Venus. Sun is debilitated there. Saturn (exalted, retrograde) and Ketu are much stronger.
• Relations with other countries: the two lagna lords are well placed — Saturn in the 9th, Rahu in the 3rd. So the year starts on a good note.
• But the 7th house has Jupiter, and the 7th lord Sun is debilitated and afflicted by Ketu and Saturn. Not a year of great relations.

Daśās of the Year (Moon-based Vimśottari)

• Saturn (Feb 15 – Apr 13): good.
• Mercury: lagna lord in the 10th. Good. "Right now things are fine, but it will be the summer which will be of concern."
• Sun and Moon (Aug 21 – Oct 8): the Amavasya yoga works. A problem period.
• Jupiter (Dec 21 to about Feb 1): the worst daśā of the year.

Will There Be a War?

• Background the teacher gives: Afghanistan is getting more aggressive; North Korea is about to launch what it calls a satellite, the US, Japan and South Korea suspect a long-range missile and are moving warships, and North Korea says shooting it down is an act of war.
• A student points to Rahu in the 3rd house of aggression. In the Navāṁśa the lagna and the 3rd exchange (Mars in Aquarius, Rahu in Aries). The teacher: that shows aggressive moves, not necessarily war.
• War comes from the 6th. In the Navāṁśa the 6th lord Moon is afflicted by Saturn, Ketu and Sun.

"6th has to be strong for a war to happen. 6th lord being afflicted doesn't really show fighting a war. It will actually show quitting of the wars that you are fighting, withdrawal from the wars, or really doing a bad job with the wars you are fighting."

• Moon as 6th lord does not show great wars. But just after Amavasya he is a natural malefic, so there can be some wars; they will not go well.
• Verdict: the 6th lord is weak. No major wars this year, but no smooth relations either. A problematic year.

US Finances — the Hora Chart

The Hora chart used in class is not one the site casts; the placements below are as the teacher read them.

• The Hora chart has Virgo rising.
• Lagna lord Mercury and the 2nd and 9th lord Venus are together, but with the 11th lord Moon and the 12th lord Sun and the Amavasya yoga. So the 2nd lord again carries the Amavasya.
• 4th house (peace): the Amavasya yoga and four planets. Its lord is in the 6th, a dusthāna, in an inimical sign. No peace or happiness.
• 5th house (emotional stability, judgment): badly beaten down. Mars and Rahu are there — the 8th and 6th lords.

"The feeling of comfort — okay, things are fine, economy is fine — that is unlikely to come to US during this year."

• Better daśās in this chart: Saturn (in the 11th), Ketu (3rd lord in the 11th), Mercury (lagna lord in a quadrant); even Venus is probably fine.
• Sun daśā, after Aug 21: Sun is the 12th lord in the 4th house of happiness, aspecting important planets, and in contact with Saturn. It will bring some bad events. Some problem in the country will affect the mood of Wall Street.

Mechanical Engineering and Auto Industry

• A student asked about US automakers. The teacher widened it to the mechanical engineering industry.
• Take the karaka as lagna. The karaka is Mars (Aquarius in the rāśi).
• From Mars the 2nd house (Pisces) has a bunch of planets giving Amavasya yoga. The 2nd lord of wealth, Jupiter, is in the 12th in debility, afflicted by Rahu.
• Not a good year for the industry.
