Mars and Saturn in the Kārakāṁśa — Weapons

Audible words of the verse: kuje … kuntāstra-dhārakaḥ

• The condition the teacher reads out: Mars alone.
• Result: the native carries a kunta.

"What is kunta? He will be wearing a weapon like a spear."

• The teacher then asks the class: "Why will Mars give a spear?" The answer is lost on the recording.
• If Saturn is there instead of Mars: dhanur-vidyā — archery.

Moon and Jupiter in Svāṁśa or the 5th — The Author

Audible words of the verse: svāṁśe vā pañcame …

• Condition: Moon and Jupiter in the svāṁśa (Kārakāṁśa) or in the 5th from it.
• Result: grantha-kartā — an author of books.
• Venus and then Mercury are named next in the same series. What he says of them is lost.

Jupiter by himself

Audible words of the verse: sarva-vid … jīve, na vāgmī … sabhā …, … viśeṣeṇa, veda-vedānta-vit

• Jupiter alone: he knows a great deal, and he knows Veda and Vedānta.
• na vāgmī: he is not an orator. He does not speak well in an assembly.
• The teacher asks why this falls to Jupiter. His answer is lost.

Saturn and Mercury in the Same Places — Sabhā-jaḍa and Mīmāṁsaka

Audible words of the verse: sabhā-jaḍo bhaved bālaḥ ukta-sthāna-gate śanau; mīmāṁsako bhavet … ukta-sthāna-gate budhe

Ukta-sthāna = "the said place": the same places as in Part 2, the Kārakāṁśa or the 5th from it. These verses are not about the 2nd from Kārakāṁśa.

"If the first house or fifth house from Kārakāṁśa contains Saturn, then the person will be sabhā-jaḍa — one who basically freezes in the assembly, who can't say anything."

• Saturn in the 1st or 5th from Kārakāṁśa: sabhā-jaḍa — dumb in an assembly.
• Mercury in the same place: mīmāṁsaka — a follower of Mīmāṁsā.
• The teacher compares Jupiter and Saturn here at some length. That passage is lost.

Other results heard in this passage

The planets that go with these results cannot be made out:

• vedānta-vit … gīta-jña — a knower of Vedānta, and one who knows song.
• sāṅkhya-yogī, vedāntī.
• paramahaṁsa is spoken once here, and once later next to "Jupiter, Ketu". The sentence around it is lost. Unverified.

The 2nd from Kārakāṁśa — Speech, Ketu, and Which Kārakāṁśa

Audible words of the verse: pāpa-dṛṣṭe … mānavo vaktum akṣamaḥ

The verse is on a speech defect read from the 2nd from Kārakāṁśa. Its opening is lost. The teacher's remarks show it concerns Ketu.

"If a malefic is aspecting, it will be more so."

"The problem will be so acute that you can't mention how difficult the problem will be."

• A malefic aspect makes the defect worse: vaktum akṣamaḥ, unable to speak.

Ketu and speech

"So Ketu is the main planet for speech difficulties. Forget Kārakāṁśa."

• Ketu shows speech difficulty in any chart, with or without the Kārakāṁśa.
• He starts on a case he knows, with Ketu in Kanyā, then withdraws it: "No, actually, no. This is not true." Do not take a Ketu-in-Virgo rule from this class.

Which Kārakāṁśa?

"When he says second house from Kārakāṁśa, which Kārakāṁśa is he talking about? … It is not clear."

• The verse does not say in which chart the Kārakāṁśa is to be taken. He names the navāṁśa and one other chart; the second name is garbled.
• His method: take a few charts of people who have speech problems. See the 2nd from Kārakāṁśa in the triṁśāṁśa, see it in the navāṁśa, and see which one holds.
