The Annual Chart for the Year of the Move

He left in February 1985. He was born in June, so the Tithi Pravesha year then running began in mid-1984. That is the annual chart to read, not the 1985 one.

Ruler of the Year (Hora Lord)

In a Tithi Pravesha chart the Hora Lord rules the year. The houses he owns and occupies give the theme of the year.

• 1984 TP chart: Libra Lagna. Hora Lord = Mercury
• Mercury owns the 9th and 12th and sits in the 7th (Aries)
• One planet joins all three houses of foreign travel
• From the Hora Lord alone: a strong chance he goes abroad that year, or if already abroad, flourishes there

What Are Sahamas?

"Sahama" means an important point. Each is a mathematical point in the zodiac for one matter, stated like a planet's position: "Paradesha Sahama is at 23° Capricorn."

• Named in class: Karyasiddhi, Punya, Raja, Paradesha, Paradara, Vivaha, Putra, Jalapatana
• Jalapatana Sahama = crossing the ocean
• Paradesha Sahama = foreign land
• Vivaha Sahama = marriage
• They exist in every chart, natal or annual, and fall elsewhere in each year's chart. For a year's reading use the sahamas of that year's TP chart, not the natal ones. (Punya Sahama here: 6° Pisces in the natal chart, 14° in the TP chart.)
• Judge by who occupies the point, who is close to it, who owns the sign, and what that lord is joined to. That tells whether the matter has an important event in the year.

Reading the Two Sahamas

See whether the lord of either sahama links to the planet giving the trip (here Mercury), to the karaka Rahu, or to the 7th/9th/12th or Badhakasthana.

Jalapatana Sahama: 12° Leo

• Libra is movable → the 11th, Leo, is the Badhakasthana. The sahama sits in it.
• Its lord, the Sun, is with Rahu, the karaka. (They are in the 8th; the house does not matter here, the conjunction does.)

Paradesha Sahama: 23° Capricorn

• Lord Saturn is in Libra at 18½°, with 7th lord Mars at 25° Libra
• Saturn and Mercury are in samasaptaka: each aspects the other. Mercury is the 9th and 12th lord.
• Saturn sits on the axis of both and completes the link

Both sahamas tie in to the 7th, 9th, 12th, the Badhaka or Rahu, and the Hora Lord is the 9th and 12th lord in the 7th. A very good chance of leaving the motherland that year.

"Abroad" Means a Different Culture

• The 7th, 9th and 12th, the Badhaka and Rahu do not by themselves mean another country. Tamil Nadu to Kashmir, or Boston to California, is the same thing: a place whose culture is not yours.
• When watery signs or Jalapatana Sahama are involved, it is probably a crossing of the ocean. Here Jalapatana Sahama is involved.

Chara Karakas in Annual Charts

A student's question. Chara karakas change every year; for a year's reading take them from that year's chart.

• 1984 TP: Atmakaraka = Venus, in the 7th house of the Rashi chart
• AK in a kendra = a year of good fortune; you feel comfortable with what you are doing. Whether it turns out well later is another matter.
• AK in the 8th of the annual chart = the soul is not happy where it is

Timing Inside the Year

PVNR hides the dasha window and asks the class which dasha should give the result.

• The main planet is Mercury. But Mercury is with Venus, so Venus is likely to give Mercury's results.
• It was so: he left in Venus Dasha of the year, which ran December 25 – March 10.
• The dasha used inside a Tithi Pravesha year is Tithi Ashtottari. The published class notes rate Tithi Pravesha with Tithi Ashtottari as more accurate than the other dashas.

Why This Technique

Had he come in 1983 asking when he would go abroad: cast the Tithi Pravesha chart for each coming year, find the year with a strong chance, and then name the period, December to March.

"Most of the correct predictions that I made to people were made based on this technique, not other dashas that I teach. Those are also important, but those are fallible. And this is also fallible, but this is less fallible."

• People rarely ask what will happen in 20 years; for that, use Vimshottari and the other dashas.
• They ask about a job in the next six months, a marriage that is overdue, a child long awaited. Whatever they ask usually happens within 3–5 years, and the annual charts of those years answer it.
