Five Planets in Leo — Narayana Dasha 3-Part Rule, Annual TPs & D10 Rectification

Configuration: Mars 2°48', Rahu 3°42', Jupiter 7°56', Moon 10°19' and Saturn 28°58' all in Leo, the 5th house. Mercury and Ketu in Aquarius. Sun in Pisces.

Venus: in the class software Venus is at the very end of Aries, in lagna. The site's ayanāṁśa puts it a few arc-minutes later, at 0°01' Taurus. Read Venus in Aries to follow the class — it changes Venus's sign in D9, D12 and D20.

The chart was brought by a student for another reason. The teacher uses it for the "tricky" case of many planets in one house. Such charts carry every kind of yoga, good and bad. The students list Gajakesari, Guru-Mangala, Chandra-Mangala and Guru-Chandala yogas. Mars, Jupiter and Saturn are retrograde: every planet that can be retrograde is.

Dwisapthathi Sama Dasa

• The 7th lord Venus is in lagna. So the nakṣatra daśā to use is Dvisaptati Sama Daśā.
• "After a long time we are getting an example" of this daśā.

Exchange of Results — Many Planets in One Sign

Question: in Mars daśā, whose results does Mars give?

Method:

1. Forget who the planets are. Arrange them in order of beneficence.
2. The first and the last exchange results.
3. The second and the second-last exchange results.
4. The one in the middle gives his own.

For this chart:

• Jupiter is the most benefic, retrograde or not.
• Moon is next. Birth is on Śukla Trayodaśī, two days before full Moon, so Moon is a benefic.
• Then Mars, then Saturn, then Rahu. Mars is more benefic than Saturn, Saturn more than Rahu.
• Order: Jupiter → Moon → Mars → Saturn → Rahu.
• Jupiter and Rahu should exchange. They will not. "Jupiter will say, you want me to give your result? I will give my result." They are also about four degrees apart, a close affliction of Jupiter. Both give their own results.
• Moon and Saturn exchange. Moon daśā gives Saturn's results. Saturn daśā gives Moon's results.
• Mars, in the middle, gives his own.
• Mercury and Ketu are together in Aquarius. Mercury gives Ketu's results.
• Venus gives his own.

The exchange belongs to the rāśi chart. In the divisional charts these planets are no longer together, so apply the normal rules there.

Narayana Dasha — Leo Dasha (2014–2019)

The class is held in 2006. Cancer daśā is running. Leo daśā runs 2014–2019, age 34 to 39.

Key Prediction

• So many planets in one sign, and that sign's daśā is coming. Many yogas fire together.
• From the rāśi chart and the Narayana Daśā alone you can say: after 2014, five years of great change, many ups and downs. Exactly what happens when is harder.

"So many planets in that one sign and that daśā is coming. So 2014 to 2019, so much will happen in his life."

Psychology of prediction. A student objects that everyone has a midlife readjustment. The teacher's answer: do not say it flatly, or the native will shrug. Say that in his case it will be so large that at 40 he will look back and say "oh man, the last 5 years was something." A subjective statement like this is right nine times in ten. Here, though, the chart does show something big.

Dasha Pravesha Chakra (Period Entry Chart) for Leo Dasha

Even when nobody asks, investigate a feature that stands out. The entry chart of Leo daśā has Scorpio lagna:

• Lagna lord Mars in the 11th → very good; health and success.
• Co-lord Ketu in the 6th → lagna lord in the 6th gives some health problem, but Ketu in the 6th is good. Some worries, he comes out of them easily.
• Saturn and Rahu, the 4th lords, in the 12th → comfort at home is lost. Rahu in the 12th gives foreign travel or settling abroad. He may be out of the US for long stretches, and may leave it.
• The nakṣatra daśā of those years is Saturn's, then Rahu's. In D4 Saturn is the 7th lord in the bādhakasthāna (Cancer lagna, Saturn in Taurus, the 11th), and the bādhaka lord Venus is in the 7th: a parivartana between the 7th and the bādhakasthāna. Saturn's Dvisaptati Sama Daśā gives travel abroad. (Venus is in Capricorn in D4 only with Venus at the end of Aries in rāśi, as in the class software.)
• Jupiter, 2nd and 5th lord, in the 8th:
  • 5th lord and kāraka for children in the 8th → some unhappiness or problems related to children.
  • Occult studies are possible.
  • 2nd lord in the 8th can also give sudden gains — speculation, stocks.
• 10th lord Sun in the 5th → recognition for ability at work. A great career in those years.
• Health, finances and career are all fine. Overall a good time materially.

Narayana Dasha 3-Part Rule Applied to Leo

Leo is a śīrṣodaya (head-rising) sign. The sign takes the first available third. Each third is 20 months.

5th Lord in the 12th — Occult Scholarship

• The 12th house is the 8th from the 5th. The 5th is the house of scholarship. Its lord in the 8th from it = scholarship in occult or unconventional subjects.
• Likewise the 5th lord in the 11th is in the 7th from the 5th, the house of desire: great learning in sensual matters.
• The 4th house is the process of learning. The 5th is what you have already learnt and stored.
• Count the 5th lord's house from the 5th to know what kind of knowledge the person has.
• Here there is also a parivartana between the 5th lord Sun and the 12th lord Jupiter. Occult knowledge is certain. If he is not interested now, the time has not come. 2015–2017 is when the interest can start.

The Daśā Running Now — Cancer (to 2014)

The native's mother is worried that he will leave the US. The teacher checks the entry chart of the present Cancer daśā (Aquarius lagna).

• Lagna lords Saturn and Rahu are in the 4th. The 9th house is empty; the 9th lord is in lagna. No strong combination for settling abroad. He stays for now. The chance is in Leo daśā, not earlier.
• Moon and Venus in lagna — a dhana yoga, resources and abundance, strongest in lagna or the 2nd (the published class notes add the upachaya houses). Mercury and Sun are in the 2nd, also well placed.
• Venus in lagna is also the 9th lord: prosperity.
• Saturn and Rahu in the 4th always reduce the 4th house. The 4th lord Venus with Moon in lagna gives some happiness, but contentment is missing.
• Saturn and Rahu in the 4th are in parivartana with Venus in lagna. An exchange of lagna lord and 4th lord is good in itself, but once it has given its result it works as if Saturn and Rahu were afflicting Moon in lagna.
• Verdict for these 11 years: he makes a lot of money and is very successful, but he is not happy.

Annual Chart Analysis (Tithi Pravesha 2017–2019)

To confirm the last third of Leo daśā, look at the annual charts of those years.

2017

Capricorn lagna.

• Ruler of the year Venus: yogakāraka (5th and 10th lord) and exalted, but retrograde. Exalted and retrograde is equivalent to debilitation. He is with Sun, the 8th lord. A setback: yoga-bhaṅga of what he was enjoying.
• Moon, the 7th lord, in the 8th house with Rahu → death or death-like suffering.
• A student asks whether it means a break in marriage. It is a possibility. But the 7th lord in the 8th is a māraka in the rāśi chart. In navāṁśa it would speak more of marriage; rāśi is physical existence. So: grief, suffering, an accident.
• A year of some negative events.

2018

Leo lagna.

• Lagna lord Sun is in the 8th house with Mercury, the 2nd lord. Hora lord Jupiter owns the 8th, and sits in the 3rd, his Maraṇa Kāraka Sthāna.
• Mercury is debilitated but retrograde, so he behaves as if exalted. Sun and Mercury are within 6–7 degrees: a good yoga, but in the 8th.
• Some suffering again, much less than 2017.
• Mercury, planet of learning, in the 8th → the suffering leads him to occult learning.
• Moon, the 12th lord, in lagna, and Rahu in the 12th in Cancer, a fruitful sign → strong interest in mokṣa. Who am I, what am I doing in this world — these questions come up after the setbacks of 2017.

2019

Gemini lagna.

• Lagna lord Mercury is in the 9th in Aquarius, and Rahu, co-lord of the 9th, is in lagna: an exchange of the lagna lord and the 9th lord.
• Hora lord Sun is in the 10th, where he has directional strength.
• The year looks good.

Why Suffering Turns the Mind

• Religiousness or spirituality either comes naturally or needs a big blow.
• From birth the mind attaches to the thought "I am this body". As long as you think you are the body you are bound: you either suffer your karma or exhaust your good karma.
• When the body suffers, the mind starts to ask whether this is all there is.
• Keep asking "Who am I?". Nobody can hand you the answer. Only experience convinces. There is no progress meter. "When it happens, it just happens."

D10 Rectification — Cancer vs Leo Lagna

Why D10

• D20 lagna is close to a border: about two minutes of birth time either way changes it. There is no known spiritual event to fix D20 with.
• There is a known fact for D10: the career. If the lagna goes back behind 12° Aries, the D10 lagna changes from Leo to Cancer, and D20 changes with it. So settle D10 first.

Career of Native

• A successful financial analyst, employed by a company. An intelligent job with subjective analysis.
• Planets for it: Mercury and Jupiter. For financial analysis Jupiter is important.
• Nakṣatra daśā: he is running Venus daśā (2000–2009), and the career most likely started in it. So Venus has to be well placed in the right D10.
• D10 Narayana Daśā: Virgo 2001–2003, Libra 2003–2006. Success came in these two. He got his start in Virgo; the growth came in Libra.

Leo Lagna (6:45 AM) Does Not Fit

• Mars in lagna, Saturn in the 10th, parivartana between Saturn and Venus. That shows a dominant, aggressive leader, not financial analysis.
• Libra: Jupiter is there, the 5th and 8th lord in the 3rd = Maraṇa Kāraka Sthāna. Libra's lord Venus is in the 6th = Maraṇa Kāraka Sthāna. Two MKS planets tied to Libra. Success in Libra daśā does not make sense.
• Virgo: Rahu is there, as 7th lord in the 2nd house. Rahu does not like the 2nd. A planet who dislikes a house is a bad tenant: he spoils it. For a man in service, Rahu as 7th lord also shows the end of service. Virgo's lord Mercury is in the 12th. A break in career in Virgo daśā does not make sense.

Cancer Lagna (6:43 AM) Fits

Time moved from 6:45 to 6:43:00.

• Mercury in lagna; 10th lord Mars in the 2nd; the 10th house aspected by Jupiter, the 9th lord (graha dṛṣṭi from Libra).
• Rahu is the 8th lord in the 3rd house — Viparīta Rāja Yoga, and Virgo is his mūlatrikoṇa. "Rahu likes 3, 6 and 11. These are the three houses he likes."
• Virgo daśā (2001–2003): Rahu excellent, and Virgo's lord Mercury is in lagna. A rising career is likely.
• Libra daśā (2003–2006): Libra is the 4th house, holds A2 (accumulated wealth) and Jupiter. The 9th lord aspecting the 10th gives independence in career. "You may have a boss, but you will be kind of like your own boss." After 2003 he is taken more seriously and his views matter. Jupiter gives analysis and sage advice.

Conclusion: the D10 lagna is probably Cancer, not Leo.

Key D10 Principles Taught

• In D10, a debilitated planet shows a practical approach; an exalted planet shows an idealistic one. The lagna lord Moon is debilitated: results on the ground matter to him, not great ideas.
• Moon in D10 shows the mind in professional matters. Moon in Scorpio, a martial sign → dynamism. Saturn aspects it (graha dṛṣṭi from Taurus) → some unhappiness. He is not fully happy.
• A student asks whether the 3rd from AL in D10 shows the end of a career, as the 3rd from AL in rāśi shows the final passing. The teacher has never tried it. Test it on charts.

AL (Arudha Lagna) Rules — Planets in 7th and 12th from AL

In the rectified D10 the Arudha Lagna is in Pisces. AL is status and how you appear to the world.

Saturn or Rahu in the 7th or 12th from AL:

• "If Saturn or Rahu are in 7th or 12th from Arudha Lagna, they give Rāja Yoga. That is what Parāśara says. They will give excellent material prosperity. Just material."
• Rahu in Virgo is in the 7th from AL. This is the second reason Virgo daśā gave a rise.

8th from AL:

• Benefic in the 8th from AL → sudden, unexpected rise.
• Malefic in the 8th from AL → sudden, unexpected fall.
• Jupiter in Libra is in the 8th from AL: well placed.

Venus in the 7th from lagna (Venus, lord of Libra, is in Capricorn):

• The 7th is a good house for benefics in general. Not for Venus.
• "Venus is the kāraka for desire, and if he is in the house of desire, he will give too much desire. That kind of desire cannot be satisfied."
• He wants too much from the career. Result: needless disappointment. "You have every reason to be happy, but still you are unhappy."
• From AL the same Venus is in the 11th, the house of fulfilment of desires. To the world he looks like a man who has everything. He himself thinks, "I wish I had that."
