Dasha Varga Schemes, D40/D45 & Annual TP Lagna Karmic Theme

Varga schemes: Dasha Varga (the 10 divisions used for Vimsopaka Bala), Shodasavarga (16 divisions), Shadavarga (6 divisions). D40 (Chatvarimsamsa) and D45 (Akshavedamsa): deeper karma charts rarely used but important for specific analysis. Vimsopaka Bala vs Ashtakavarga Bala — the fundamental difference: Vimsopaka = inherent dignity of a planet across multiple divisional charts; AV = how much support the planet gets in its position. Annual TP chart: the position of the TP lagna relative to the natal lagna reveals the karmic theme of that year — same sign = personal year, trine = continuation, 6/8 = difficult year.

"The annual TP lagna position from natal lagna tells you the karmic theme of the year — what kind of year this will be in terms of your dharmic journey."

— P.V.R. Narasimha Rao

What's in Shodasa Varga but NOT in Dasha Varga

The extra charts in the 16-varga scheme that are NOT in the 10-varga scheme include:

  • D-40 (Khavedamsa): Shows karma inherited from maternal ancestors; what you carry from your mother's family line
  • D-45 (Akshavedamsa): Shows karma inherited from paternal ancestors; grandfather's karma affecting you

Why D-40 and D-45 Are Less Important for Common People

  • In the grand scale of karma, the karma you carry from your OWN past lives FAR outweighs the karma you inherit from ancestors
  • These ancestral karmas are secondary influences
  • However, when the D-40 or D-45 shows a terrible combination (e.g., a curse in the family), it must be taken seriously
  • Example: If a grandfather committed a terrible sin (cheated his guru, mass destruction), up to 7 generations can suffer the consequences
  • "If you see a really bad combination in D40 or D45, you should pay attention to it."

Practical example: A family where every marriage breaks — engagement broken, wife dies young, etc. This is likely a family curse visible in D-45 (paternal karma). The ancestral sin must be identified and remedied.
