Second Marriage — Analysis

Which house shows the second marriage

• First marriage = 7th house of Navamsa.
• When one marriage ends — divorce, or death of the spouse — and another begins, the second marriage is the 8th from the 7th. A third would be the 8th from that.
• Here: 8th from Sagittarius = Cancer, the 2nd house of the Navamsa.
• This holds once divorce proceedings have started, even before the divorce is final. The relationship is understood to be broken.
• Take that sign as lagna to see how that marriage will be: the 12th from it is its loss, the 2nd from it its progress. It is the lagna of the second relationship, more than of the second spouse.

"The second marriage, when the first marriage ends and the second marriage starts, like divorce or spouse dying — in those cases you take the 8th from the 7th."

Polygamy: if a second spouse is added without ending the first marriage, take the 6th from the 7th, then the 6th from that, and so on. Keep adding → 6th. Destroy one and form another → 8th. After twelve spouses the count returns to the same sign; tradition does not say how to handle that.

What does not change:

• The lagna. Sun in lagna and the lagna lord Mercury can always give a new start in dharmic life.
• The underlying weaknesses. Venus is still with the 6th lord Mars. Jupiter, the 7th lord, controls all relationships and is still in marana karaka sthana. Whatever the second marriage shows sits on top of this.

Who gives the second marriage: a planet in that sign, aspecting it, yogakaraka from it — or connected with lagna. Jupiter was the giver as 7th lord; now he is not. Moon is the lord of Cancer; Venus and Mars occupy it. Venus and Mars are now the givers.

Mars from Cancer

• For the first marriage (Sagittarius as lagna) Mars was the 12th lord in the 8th — an aggravating planet for her and for the husband.
• From Cancer, Mars is the 5th and 10th lord — yogakaraka — sitting in that lagna. He is with Venus, the 4th and 11th lord from Cancer — a Raja Yoga there.
• His agenda as 6th lord from her own lagna stays: she may feel like quarrelling. But for the second husband Mars is not an aggravating planet. The tension will be much less.
• Mercury is a fair candidate too: 3rd and 12th lord in the 4th from Cancer, lagna lord of Navamsa, 9th lord of Rasi.

Timing

Chaturashiti: the antardasha running in Mars dasha — Mars–Mercury, October 2005 – July 2007 — is conducive to marriage.

Navamsa Narayana Dasha: can Capricorn, which gave the divorce, also give the remarriage? The same dasha can give both. But Capricorn's only link to Cancer is being the 7th from it. Aquarius, the next dasha (from April 2007), is the better candidate:

• 9th house of Navamsa, and it holds Arudha Lagna — a tangible new beginning
• One of its two lords, Saturn, is in the 11th house
• Aquarius has rasi drishti on Cancer
• Aquarius is aspected by Venus

Both together: April – July 2007 looks interesting.

Vimshottari: Ketu dasha runs. Ketu is the 5th lord from Cancer and is with Cancer's lord Moon. Ketu–Jupiter is running, Ketu–Saturn follows. Saturn is the 7th lord from Cancer — nothing special.

Annual charts (Tithi Pravesha)

"Let us not jump to conclusions based on one technique."

In an annual chart: a link between lagna lord and 7th lord shows marriage that year. A link between lagna lord and 2nd lord shows a second marriage. In the TP Rasi chart take the 8th from UL; in the TP Navamsa take the 8th from the 7th, the 2nd house.

TP 2007 (year begins 24 April 2007; hora lord Mars):

• Navamsa lagna Taurus. Mars is the 7th and 12th lord, in the 11th. The 2nd house Gemini shows the second marriage; the Sun is in it. Lagna lord Venus is in the 3rd. No clear link between Gemini and the lagna.
• "It doesn't seem very favourable, honestly."

TP 2006 (the running year; hora lord Sun, the 2nd lord in the 10th):

• Rasi: Virgo shows the second marriage. Ketu is in it, and its lord Mercury is in the 8th from it with the Sun, the ruler of the year. Jupiter is in the 2nd from Virgo.
• Navamsa: Pisces lagna. Lagna lord Jupiter is in lagna with Mars and Ketu. Mars is the 2nd lord; Mars and Ketu are the 9th lords. A Raja Yoga of lagna lord and 9th lords, and a link between the 1st and 2nd houses — the second spouse coming to the person. Venus aspects them.
• "There is a decent chance in this particular chart."
• Likely givers: Jupiter, Mars, or the Sun as ruler of the year. Jupiter is also the dispositor of the 2nd lord Mars.
• When: October–November 2006, or probably better February 2007. February is Magha masa, a month in which traditional families hold marriages. This is still within Capricorn dasha.

Bottom line: a reasonable chance of remarriage in the coming year.

Remedy for the second marriage

• The second marriage in the Rasi chart is the 8th from UL = Capricorn. Fast on Saturdays.
• The lord of the 2nd from it is Saturn. At the end of the fast pray to Venkateswara and ask for the second marriage.
• Capricorn is also the running Navamsa Narayana Dasha — Saturn again.

Spouse Nature Analysis — From L7 as Lagna

The 7th house is the marriage itself. The nature and attitude of the spouse are seen from the arudha.

From the 7th house Sagittarius first: its lord Jupiter is in the 9th from it, and Saturn is in trine to it, in the 5th. The class notes read Jupiter there as a pious, spiritual side, and Saturn as the scepticism and suspicion. The true nature and personality come from the arudha.

Shortcut when the house and its lord are in trine:

• Here the 7th house (Sagittarius) and the 7th lord (Jupiter in Leo) are in trine.
• Count from the house to the lord and the same distance again → Aries. Count from the lord to the house and the same distance again → Aries.
• So A7 and L7 fall in the same sign. When a sign and its lord are in mutual trine, look at A7 and skip working out L7 (or A9 for L9).

Aries as the first husband's lagna (Navamsa):

• Saturn in lagna, debilitated, in a sign of Mars. Not comfortable, not strong.
• Saturn is the karaka of cynicism and scepticism. He is conservative. When the conservatism becomes too much it turns into suspicion — always looking for the negative.
• People with Saturn in lagna are usually not explosive. They are unsure, diffident, take things slowly. But with Saturn in Aries, that person explodes when the time comes.
• Saturn can also make a person follow dharma — traditional, conservative. Which side shows depends on the influences on him.

Influences on Saturn:

• Positive: argala of Venus, aspect of Jupiter, aspect of Mercury (graha drishti)
• Negative: Rahu's graha drishti, argala of Mars
• Rahu is Saturn's close friend. A friend who wants you a certain way is listened to.
• Mars is Saturn's dispositor — the landlord — and has 4th-house argala on him. The 4th-house argala is a controlling argala.

"Your landlord has argala on you. So he has a very decisive influence on you. He controls you."

• With only the negatives, a negative Saturn. With only the positives, a traditional man. Here both are present and it is a border case. The judgment: Rahu and Mars dominate over Mercury and Jupiter. Suspicious, and aggressive on account of the suspicion.
• Saturn and Mars both on lagna make a curious mixture: very slow at times, very fast at times; usually timid, but in anger able to do anything.

The rest of him, from Aries:

• Intelligent: Jupiter in the 5th, 5th lord Sun well placed in the 3rd, Mercury aspecting lagna. The 5th and 9th lords connected with the 3rd house or lagna make a person intelligent.
• Fortunate: 9th lord Jupiter in the 5th.
• Not happy: Venus and Mars in the 4th house of sukha. The planet of harmony and the planet of anger together in the house of peace of mind. Always uneasy, always seeing things negatively.
• Health: Moon and Ketu in the 6th — struggle, and some health problem is possible; blood pressure or digestion is mentioned.

Children from Second Marriage

Children are read in the Saptamsa (D-7). D-7 lagna here is Aries.

Why the 5th house shows children: it is the 11th from the 7th — the fruit of the first marriage, the marriage fulfilling its objective. The first child of a second marriage is the fruit of the second-marriage house.

Counting: take the 11th from the marriage sign. Odd sign → count forward. Even sign → count backward.

First marriage — 7th house Libra (odd):

• 11th forward = Leo = first child of the first marriage.
• Leo's lord Sun is in Taurus, an even sign — it would have been a girl.
• Rahu is in Leo. Rahu may or may not stop a child. Here he did. There was one abortion and no child.
• The teacher is glad there are no children. Children suffer most in a divorce.

Second marriage — 8th from Libra = Taurus, the 2nd house (even):

• 11th counted backward from Taurus = Cancer = first child of the second marriage.
• Cancer's lord Moon is in the 8th from Cancer (Aquarius), with Ketu.
• "There may not be a child, or there may be an abortion, or some negativity is there."
• What happened in the first marriage may come back in the first pregnancy of the second.
• Second child: 3rd backward from Cancer = Taurus. Its lord Venus is in the 12th from it, with Mars. Also bad.
• Two pregnancies may both be unsuccessful.

A student suggests kumbha vivaha, so that the coming marriage counts as the third:

• Third marriage = 8th from Taurus = Sagittarius (odd). 11th forward = Libra. Its lord Venus is with Mars, and Mars is in the 7th from Libra, his marana karaka sthana. Still a problem for the first pregnancy.
• The second child there falls in Sagittarius, whose lord Jupiter is in his own sign. Better.
• The teacher will not advise kumbha vivaha on the Saptamsa alone. In Navamsa, Cancer looks fine for the second marriage. She can stay with that.

Advice: before she tries for a child in the second marriage, pujas and homas must be done. Otherwise she looks unlucky with children. The chart will be taken up again when she marries.
