Career Timing with D10 Dikpalas — Four Chart Studies

D-10 Dasamsa — The 10 Dikpalaka Deities

When each Rasi is divided into 10 parts of 3° each, the 10 parts are ruled by the 10 Dikpalakas (guardians of 10 directions in three-dimensional space):

For odd Rasis: Forward (Indra → Agni → ... → Ananta) For even Rasis: Reverse (Ananta → Brahma → Ishana → ... → Indra)

Important notes:

• Brahma and Ananta represent the vertical dimension (up/down) — beyond the 8 horizontal directions. They show exploration beyond the two-dimensional material plane.
• Nirriti can show good or bad things — entirely depends on the planet: Jupiter in Nirriti = breaking academic barriers; Rahu in Nirriti = underground mafia, terrorism.
• Yama is not just "death/killing." He is Yama Dharmaraja. He upholds dharma ruthlessly. "He is the leveler. He just follows dharma. If there has to be killing to uphold dharma, so be it."

D-10 Chart Examples

Chart 2 — Aishwarya Rai (Revisited with Amsa Rulers)

Birth data: November 1, 1973 | 4:07 AM IST | 74°51′E, 12°54′N
D-10 Lagna: Leo

(Recall from Lesson 6: Venus 10L in 5H with Jupiter; Mars 9L in 10H; Raj Yoga = Venus+Jupiter in 5H)

New analysis — Amsa Rulers:

Venus (10L) in 5H (Sagittarius) — Amsa: Indra

Venus is in an enemy's sign (Sagittarius = Jupiter's sign; Venus and Jupiter are enemies). This introduces a flaw in the Raj Yoga:

"Even though she has a great Raj Yoga, Venus is in an enemy's house. She is not really happy or in a good state. There is something negative about it — some disappointments with the career. She may not be doing it with full satisfaction."

But the Indra amsa tells the manner: Indra is the king of the gods. Having the 10L in Indra amsa means:

"She is not just an entertainer — she is a queen-like entertainer. She commands authority. She is an Indra-like figure in her field."

Jupiter (5L) in 5H (Sagittarius = own/Moolatrikona) — Amsa: Kubera

Jupiter in own/Moolatrikona = planet in its "office" → dutiful, performs its function well → gives fame, popularity.

Kubera amsa shows the guiding force behind Jupiter's results here (the 5L's role = following/popularity):

"Whatever following she has, her attitude toward it is money-minded. She will say: I have so much following, so I want more money; only then will I make the movie. She uses her popularity to demand higher fees."

(Note: Whether she actually makes money from this is shown by D-2 Hora. What Kubera amsa shows is her attitude — her following translates in her mind to financial leverage.)

Saturn (2H occupant, Virgo) — Amsa: Nirriti

Saturn owns 6H+7H from Leo lagna. 2H = resources available for karma. Saturn = resources include: the way she interacts with people (7L) and dealing with adversaries (6L).

Nirriti amsa = demonic, irreligious quality. This suggests something negative about those resources and interactions. (PVNR implies something unflattering but doesn't say it publicly.)

Chart 3 — Tom Hanks

Birth data: July 9, 1956 | 11:17 AM | 7 hours West of GMT | 122°W1′, 37°N58′ (Northern California area)
D-10 Lagna: Libra

Artha Trikona Analysis

Key rule: "In D-10 it's not always the 10H that is important. See all Artha Trikonas — 2H, 6H, 10H. Take the strongest — that shows the person's career."

Here the 6H dominates. The person's karma is expressed primarily through overcoming obstacles.

The 6H Dominance

Venus (6L) in 6H (Libra = Moolatrikona):

• Libra is Venus's Moolatrikona = "in the office" = duty-minded, performs to the fullest
• Planet in 6H house of obstacles = this person will overcome obstacles with great energy and zeal

Venus is Vakri (Retrograde):

"Retrograde means a state of having a strong desire that was unfulfilled in the last life. A Vakri planet shows an unfulfilled desire from the past life that must be completed."

In a house of obstacles, retrograde Venus means: a strong past-life desire to overcome challenges, to work hard, to struggle and succeed. There is an almost missionary zeal:

"This person works very hard. Unlike Aishwarya Rai — who has things given to her on a silver platter because her Raj Yoga was in the 5H (blessings, comes easily) — this person's career is in the 6H. Things do not come easily. He has to work hard, but he likes it. He has an unfulfilled desire from the past life to do so."

7L (Mars) also in 6H: 7H shows business/desire. 7L in 6H means even if he is a businessman, he will work extremely hard physically. The desire for business is channeled into hard work.

Venus's Amsa: Indra (same as Aishwarya Rai)

Both charts show Venus in Indra amsa. The career type (entertainment, Venusian) is the same. But the circumstances differ:

• Aishwarya: Raj Yoga in 5H → easily given as a blessing
• Tom Hanks: 6H dominance → comes through hard work and determination

Indra amsa means: an authoritative, powerful figure in his field who commands respect. Not just famous but someone with real authority in the industry.

Venus as Atmakaraka (AK): (The personal Atmakaraka — the planet with the highest degree, showing the soul's primary theme — will be defined formally in 2 classes later, but PVNR notes it here.)

"Sun is Naisargika Atmakaraka — the natural significator of the soul for all charts. But each person's individual Atmakaraka is a different planet — the one with the highest degree. For Tom Hanks, Venus is the Atmakaraka. He puts his soul into this particular theme — entertainment and overcoming obstacles. That makes Venus even stronger."

The 10H — Parivartana

10H is Pisces. In Pisces: Mars and Sun.

But there is a Parivartana (house exchange):

• Mars is in Pisces (Jupiter's sign)
• Jupiter is in Scorpio (Mars' sign)

Parivartana rule: When two planets exchange signs, each planet behaves like the other.

Analogy: "If I go to New Jersey and stay in Narayana's house, I will try to behave like Narayana — the way he takes care of his house. And at my house in Boston, he will try to be like me. Not perfectly, but maybe 70-80%."

Effect: Mars in Pisces behaves like Jupiter. Jupiter in Scorpio behaves like Mars (somewhat). Practically, the planets in the 10H are Jupiter + Sun (not Mars + Sun).

Jupiter dominates (in own sign Pisces via parivartana) → career of respect:

• Teachers, professors, judges, priests — someone you hold with respect as a Brahmin (not as a king, which would be Sun)

Sun (3L — determination) conjunct: Brings determination + politics to the career. This person does his Jupiterian work with political energy.

Parivartana means 6L (Jupiter) effectively in 10H, and 10L (Jupiter) effectively in 1H → Vipareeta element (6L in 10H) → confirms obstacles in career, overcome with determination.

Amsa Rulers

Jupiter's amsa: Nirriti

Nirriti = irreligiousness, breaking barriers, non-traditional work. Rules out pure spirituality.

"This person is respected (Jupiter), is a teacher/professor — but he works in something that people normally don't work into. He breaks some barriers in some activity."

Had it been Rahu in Nirriti amsa: immediately one would say mafia/underground criminal. But with Jupiter: a learned person working in a neglected or unconventional field — noble work that is not mainstream.

Caveat: Nirriti can also indicate some misled knowledge — "Some of his knowledge could be wrong, downright nonsense. Demonic knowledge. Based on the chart, I don't know his economics."

Sun's amsa: Vayu

Vayu = giving strength, uplifting people. Sun = politics, determination.

"He was involved in politics relating to the upliftment of the downtrodden. Giving strength to the weak — Vayu."

This is the chart of Amartya Sen — Nobel Prize-winning economist who worked on poverty economics and upliftment of the poor in developing nations.

Why Not a Politician?

"If Jupiter's parivartana wasn't there — if it were just Sun and Mars in 10H — I would have guessed politician. But because of the parivartana, Mars behaves like Jupiter. It's Jupiter+Sun, not Mars+Sun. He is a political teacher, not a respected politician. The role is reversed. He does deal with politics at the university and in society, but he is primarily a professor."

Service or Business?

Rule for determining service vs business:

"6H for service, 7H for business — thumb rule, works ~70-80% of the time. 7H is the Kama Trikona seed; people with strong desires want to do something on their own."

• Saturn (11L) in 7H → 11H is another Kama Trikona (culmination point); 11L in Kama Trikona seed (7H) = very strong desire drive
• Venus (3L) in 7H → 3H is also a Kama Trikona (seed point); 3L in 7H = another Kama Trikona lord in 7H
• Two Kama Trikona lords (3L + 11L) meeting in the Kama Trikona's primary house (7H)
• Venus = natural Karaka for desire in any chart → also in 7H

"Very clearly, this person has strong desire in his karma. He is not happy working for somebody doing something limited. He has a strong desire to do something — typically these people start their own business."

Lagna lord Jupiter in 9H:

"In Dasamsa, the result for lagna lord in 9H is: the person is very independent. 9H is the house of your boss. If the lagna lord is in 9H, you are your own boss."

7th lord Mercury in 10H (Sagittarius):

• 7L (business consciousness) in 10H (karma) → brings all desire into karma
• Mercury has 4H Argala on the 7H (Virgo) → when a house gets Argala from its own lord, the house is strongly reinforced: not only is Mercury in charge, he also actively contributes to it

What Kind of Business? — Mercury

Vaishyas (traders): Mercury and Moon — both are the Vaishya varna planets. Mercury shows trading/business.

"Mercury shows somebody who is intelligent, analytical — mathematicians, engineers (especially software engineers), computer engineers. He also shows speakers and journalists. And he shows traders and businessmen. Mercury is a Vaishya planet."

Mercury's amsa: Kubera → Money is the primary motivation. All desires and karma are guided by financial goals.

Argala on Mercury from Mars+Ketu (4H from Mercury): Mars+Ketu in lagna (Pisces) = 4H from Mercury (Sagittarius). This decisive argala shows hardware/electronics.

"Mars and Ketu have Argala and Rasi Drishti on Mercury. Mars+Ketu = hardware. So always — not just in a particular dasha, because it's a permanent Rasi Drishti — he was in hardware-related business, building custom high-tech hardware."

7H is Virgo (sign of the 7H) = his business relates to an intelligent, analytical domain (Virgo = Mercurian sign, intelligent designers).

Dharma Trikona — Parivartana and Hamsa Yoga

Parivartana: Jupiter (LL) in 9H (Scorpio = Mars's sign); Mars+Ketu in 1H (Pisces = Jupiter's sign) → Exchange: Jupiter effectively acts in lagna.

5 Mahapurusha Yogas:

A Mahapurusha Yoga creates a great person. Definition:

• The specific planet must be in a Kendra (quadrant: 1H, 4H, 7H, 10H)
• AND the planet must be in its own sign, exalted, or Moolatrikona

Here, Jupiter is not literally in a Kendra, but due to the parivartana with Mars (9L), Jupiter acts as if he is in Pisces lagna (1H) — a Kendra. Jupiter in Pisces = own sign. So there is a Hamsa Maha Purusha Yoga (though not a perfect one — it's formed via parivartana).

Hamsa Yoga result: A very pious, very religious person who spreads dharma in society.

Jupiter's amsa: Ishana → Auspicious form of Shiva; "Ishana Sarva Vidyanam" — gives all knowledge. Religiousness, purity, spiritual knowledge.

Combined with the 9H (dharma) exchange:

"Very clearly, this person is a very pious and religious person. He does his business, but he also has a parallel activity of spreading religiousness. He does something in society relating to religion. He's not a sadhu — he is money-minded and wants to make money — but he is deeply religious and helps people spiritually."

• Ran multiple tech startups (sold companies, now on third startup)
• Specialized in custom high-tech electronics hardware
• Is deeply involved in spreading Jainism to young Jains in America
• Teaches Jainism and yoga in the Jain community

"He balances both aspects. If he gets $6 million instead of $5 million for a company, he will haggle for that. He is very money-minded (Kubera amsa). Yet he helps people and is very religious (Ishana amsa). Both aspects coexist perfectly."

Key Rules Summary from This Lesson

Rule 1: See All Artha Trikonas

In D-10, do not automatically go to 10H. See all three Artha Trikonas:

Take the strongest Artha Trikona. If 6H dominates, the person's karma is defined by overcoming obstacles. If 10H dominates, the actual work/position is dominant.

Rule 2: Raj Yoga Location Matters

Rule 3: Vipareeta Raja Yoga

When the lord of a dusthana (6H, 8H, or 12H) goes to another dusthana — this is Vipareeta Raja Yoga:

• Results come after a lot of struggle/obstacles
• Then: great success — better than a normal Raja Yoga
• The suffering purifies and then the success comes powerfully

Rule 4: Vakri (Retrograde) Planets

"A Vakri planet shows a state of strong desire — something unfulfilled in the last life."

A retrograde planet brings past-life energy and determination to its current-life house placement. In a 6H of obstacles, Vakri = missionary zeal for overcoming challenges.

Rule 5: Parivartana (House Exchange)

When two planets exchange their signs (planet A in B's sign AND planet B in A's sign):

• They behave like each other (70-80% effectiveness)
• Each planet "tries" to fulfill the other's role in that house
• The house occupied by each planet effectively has both planets in it (for analytical purposes)

Example: Jupiter in Mars's sign + Mars in Jupiter's sign → Mars behaves like Jupiter; the house where Mars is effectively contains Jupiter's qualities.

Rule 6: Lagna Lord in 9H in D-10

The 9H in D-10 represents the person's boss/authority. Lagna lord in 9H = "You are your own boss" = strong independence = inclined toward self-employment/business.
