AV + Sudarshan Chakra Dasha — PVNR's D24 1987 Academic Success
PVNR's framework for combining Ashtakavarga with SC Dasha: use the AV score of the SC dasha house from each chakra reference point — this adds a quantitative layer. PVNR's own D24 chart for 1987 academic success (IIT Madras + Rice University): all three chakras in D24 agreeing on education success in 1987. D10-D24 cross-linking: Jupiter as teaching planet — when Jupiter activates both D10 (career) and D24 (learning) simultaneously, a major teaching or learning career event occurs. Sincerity, humility, and the 6 enemies of consciousness as prerequisites for good predictions.
"The six enemies of consciousness — kama, krodha, lobha, moha, mada, matsarya — are the biggest blocks to good predictions. A clear mind is the most important astrological tool."

Ashtakavarga + SC Dasha — PVNR's Framework
Parashara's Statement
Parashara said: "Use Ashtakavarga with SC Dasha and you can give daily, monthly, annual predictions very well." He did NOT specify how to combine them. What follows is PVNR's interpretation.
Why AV Applies to SC Dasha Pravesha Charts
AV was taught as: from each planet, certain positions are auspicious and inauspicious for that planet. The classic objection: "If Sun is in Capricorn, why care about which other signs are good for Sun?" Answer: You are not comparing Sun with his transit position — you are correlating the natal AV (which positions are NATAL auspicious) with where planets are in the pravesha chakra. The pravesha chakra is a different point-in-time chart.
PVNR's AV Application Rule
| Level of Prediction | AV to Use |
|---|---|
| Annual (Mahadasha year) | AV of natal chart |
| Monthly (Antardasha) | AV of the Mahadasha pravesha chart (year chart) |
| Daily (Pratyantar) | AV of the Antardasha pravesha chart (month chart) |
Logic: The natal chart governs the whole life; the year chart governs that particular year; the month chart governs that month. So use the AV appropriate to the governing chart for each level.
What you look for:
- Find the score (Bhinna AV) of each planet in the sign it occupies in the pravesha chart
- A high score = that planet has strong cooperation from many references = its agenda will manifest strongly
- A low score = poor cooperation = planet's agenda is blocked or weak
AV Scores
| Score | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 0 | Terrible |
| 1–2 | Very weak |
| 3 | Below average (but acceptable for Saturn/Mars) |
| 4 | Average |
| 5–6 | Good |
| 7–8 | Excellent/maximum cooperation |
Note for Saturn and Mars: Their AV scores are generally lower everywhere. A score of 3 is like "average" for them, not below average. Think of it like grading on a curve within that planet's own range.
AV Meaning (clarified by student question): "Jupiter AV score of 6 in Gemini" means Jupiter is auspicious in Gemini with respect to 6 out of the 8 reference points (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, Lagna). It shows how well-supported Jupiter is when in Gemini from 6 different cosmic perspectives.
Parashara vs. Varahamihira AV Tables
There is a conflict between Parashara's AV tables and Varahamihira's (Brihat Jataka). Kalyanavarma and Mantreshwara follow Varahamihira — thus most classical AV books use Varahamihira's tables.
PVNR's position (based on textual analysis):
- Varahamihira's text uses Sanskrit terms that are similar in metrical structure (e.g., "Sukha" vs "Shukta") — easy for a single letter corruption to change the meaning of a house
- Parashara built 4-way redundancy in his AV teaching: (1) list of good houses, (2) list of bad houses, (3) count of good houses, (4) count of bad houses — all four given for each planet. Even if 3 are corrupted, the 4th should catch the error. This is like a checksum in telecommunications.
- This redundancy is unique to AV — Parashara did not do this for any other technique. He was protecting critical Kali Yuga knowledge.
- "As if he was writing error-resilient code for us."
Conclusion: PVNR uses Parashara's AV tables. JH (Jagannatha Hora) software defaults to Parashara's method. If you use other software or consult AV books, be aware of the difference — especially for Moon and Venus AV positions.
Example Chart 2 — PVNR's D24, 1987 Academic Success
D24 Natal Chart (PVNR)
- Lagna: Gemini (in D24) → Mercury is lagna lord
- Mercury placement: 5th house of D24
- A5 (Arudha of 5th house): in Gemini → 5th from AL is also Gemini → Gemini = key house for recognition of ability, achievements
- Jupiter: 7th and 10th lord of D24
1987–1988 Year SC Dasha D24 Entry Chart
| Planet | Position in D24 Entry Chart | Natal D24 Bhinna AV Score | Assessment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jupiter | Gemini | 6 | Excellent — 6/8 references cooperate |
| Saturn | Aries | 3 | Acceptable for Saturn (average within his range) |
| Mercury | Pisces | 7 | Maximum — strongest possible support |
| Sun | (auspicious sign) | 6 | Excellent |
| Venus | Cancer | 4 | Average |
| Moon | (some sign) | 3 | Average |
Dominant planets this year: Jupiter (6), Mercury (7), Sun (6) — all very strong
Interpretation from Natal D24
Mercury's agenda in natal D24:
- Mercury = lagna lord (Gemini lagna D24) in 5th house
- 5th house = recognition of abilities, scholarship, new knowledge
- 5th from AL and A5 are in Gemini (Mercury's sign)
- When Mercury is strong (score 7 in Pisces) and Mercury is in a good house from the dasha sign → recognition, academic fame, accumulating new knowledge
Sun's agenda in natal D24:
- Sun = 3rd lord in 6th house (in D24)
- 3rd lord = initiative, determination; 6th house = overcoming obstacles, defeating rivals
- When strong: initiative used to overcome obstacles, doing well in competitive exams
Jupiter's agenda in natal D24:
- Jupiter = 7th + 10th lord
- 7th = desires for learning, new relationships in learning; partnerships
- 10th = karma/work in society relating to learning
- From AL: Jupiter in 2nd house from AL = "fattens the image" (2nd from AL = feed/nourishment for image; any benefic there grows the image)
- Mercury from AL: 5th lord in 9th from AL → protects image and makes people perceive academic achievement
SAV (Sarva Ashtakavarga) of Surya Lagna:
- In 1987, Surya Lagna progressed to Aries
- From Aries, which houses are strongest in SAV?
- 5th house (Leo): Strongest — recognition of abilities, scholarship, being known
- 3rd house (Gemini): Second strongest (score ~84) — determination, effort, repetition
- 12th house (Pisces): Third strongest (score ~33) — giving, sharing, teaching, compromise
PVNR's Confirmed Events (1987–88)
-
12th house = compromise in learning branch: He scored well (engineering entrance) but missed first-choice computer science in Madras → ended up doing electronics. The 12th house showed "compromise on desired learning path."
-
12th house = teaching: From early in engineering school, PVNR was well known for teaching fellow students before exams. "I used to love teaching from childhood — even in third class I would teach my younger siblings things they would learn 3-4 years later." This was a recognition by peers of his teaching ability.
-
Strong 5th house (recognition of abilities): Gemini/Mercury at score 7 confirmed.
D10–D24 Cross-Linking — Jupiter as Teaching Planet
An example of how divisional charts must be combined for complete understanding:
Why does PVNR teach Jyotish? Look at two charts:
D24 (learning environment):
- Jupiter = 10th lord (in D24 lagna Gemini)
- 10th house in D24 = karma relating to learning/knowledge environment
- Jupiter governs "what work I do within the learning environment"
D10 (career/work in society):
- Jupiter = 4th lord (4th house from D10 lagna) in 5th house of D10
- 4th house = learning, education; 5th house = ability, scholarship, recognition
- Jupiter in D10 shows: "in my career, Jupiter brings learning-related abilities and scholarship to the fore"
Common Factor: The same Jupiter governs both the 10th house of learning chart (D24) AND the 4th-lord-in-5th in career chart (D10).
Conclusion: Jupiter links learning with karma. He will do Jupiterian work relating to knowledge in society = teaching knowledge.
Jupiter is also retrograde (vakri) in D10:
- Retrograde planet = strong desire carried from past lives; deep-rooted quality
- Retrograde planet gives results as if exalted regardless of actual dignity
- Jupiter in D10 is debilitated but vakri → acts as if exalted in 5th house
- Result: Very strong, deep-rooted drive to teach, share knowledge; this carries across multiple incarnations
General principle: When the same planet governs a life area from TWO different divisional charts, that area manifests strongly. A link between D10 and D24 through Jupiter = "teaching knowledge in society" is clear and unambiguous.
House, Lord, and Arudha for Any Topic — Extended Examples
Friends
- 11th house: The friendship itself (intangible environment of closeness)
- 11th lord: The intelligence/thinking behind the friendship
- A11 (Arudha of 11th house): How the friendship manifests tangibly (what the world sees)
- L11 (Graha Arudha = Arudha of 11th lord): The actual, real, living friends
In divisional charts:
- 11 in D24 → friends from school/college (learning environment friends)
- 11 in D10 → professional connections/colleagues (career environment friends)
- 11 in D20 → spiritual satsangh friends
Close friendship vs. ordinary relationship:
- 11th house = friendship (people close to your heart, people you genuinely care about)
- 7th house = general relationships and partnerships (people you deal with for pursuing goals — not necessarily emotional closeness)
Friend as Business Partner
If a friend also becomes a business partner → look for link between 11th house (friendship, D1) and 7th house in D10 (business partner in career chart). If such a link exists natally, this pattern is likely to manifest.
Wife as Business Partner
If wife also functions as business partner → link between 7th in D9 (Navamsa = wife) and 7th in D10 (Dasamsa = business partner) must exist. If the same planet governs both or they share a parivartana, this will manifest.
Wife as Enemy (in divorce)
If wife becomes enemy after divorce → link between 7th in D9 and 6th in D10 (enemies in career). This can be seen if planets ruling these houses are linked.
