Marriage Year Analysis — TP & Navamsa Convergence

Confirming a marriage year using the Tithi Pravesha (TP) chart of 1989 and its Navamsa: Venus is the Hora Lord of the year and its 7th lord, the lagna lord in the 7H of the TP Navamsa with Ketu, and the Upapada lord. When the ruler of the year, the 7th house and the Navamsa all point to the same planet, the year of marriage can be called with confidence — the exact sub-period is harder.

Key principle

Venus and Ketu are both karakas for marriage, and both of them are in the 7th house, the house of marriage. So does this year have a very good chance of giving marriage?

Example chart

Navamsa Lagna: Capricorn or Sagittarius?

Rashi lagna is Cancer 20°40' — right at a Navamsa border. If the birth were 2 min 56 sec earlier — roughly 3 minutes — the Navamsa lagna would move from Capricorn back to Sagittarius. Both have to be tested against a known event.

Event: marriage in late 1989, just after Jupiter Mahadasha began (Sept 1989) — Jupiter MD, Jupiter AD, Jupiter PD. So Jupiter alone has to explain it.

  • Capricorn lagna (time as given): Jupiter sits in the 10H but owns the 3H and 12H → not an obvious marriage-giver. Saturn as lagna lord would be the natural candidate.
  • Sagittarius lagna (3 minutes earlier): Jupiter = lagna lord in the 11H (gains) with graha drishti on the 7H → a good candidate.

On Vimshottari alone, Sagittarius looks better. PVNR does not move the time on this one clue — he checks the year chart first.

"If you change it, what will end up happening is you will change time based on Navamsa. Then when you go to Dasamsa to explain something, you will change it back. You will keep changing the time."

Marriage Year Analysis (TP 1989)

The Tithi Pravesha (annual) chart for the year of marriage begins Aug 23, 1989 at 12:26:53 PM IST, cast for the place of birth wherever the native lives that year. Its lagna is Scorpio; its Navamsa lagna is Libra.

  • Hora Lord (ruler of the year) = Venus
  • In the TP Rashi chart Venus owns the 7H and 12H → the 7th lord rules the year. He also sits in the 2nd from Upapada, which is what feeds a marriage.
  • In the TP Navamsa Venus is the lagna lord in the 7H with Ketu. Venus is the general karaka of marriage; Ketu is the karaka of marriage for dharma and continuing the family line. Both karakas in the house of marriage.
  • Venus is also the Upapada lord in the TP Navamsa.
  • → Ruler of the year, 7th lord, lagna lord in the 7H, Upapada lord: every indicator lands on Venus. A marriage this year could be predicted with confidence.

"If you look at this chart, because Venus and Ketu are both significators of marriage and both are in the 7th house, the house of marriage, does this year have a very good chance of giving marriage?"

Which period inside the year: Venus's own period (Dec 13 – Feb 26) was the expected one. The marriage actually came earlier, in Rahu's period — Rahu sits in the TP Navamsa lagna, so he is a candidate too, as is Mars (7th lord of the TP Navamsa). The year is certain; the exact sub-period is much harder to pick.

The TP chart is itself time-sensitive: move it 1.5 minutes earlier and its Navamsa lagna slips from Libra to Virgo, where Venus is no longer tied to lagna or 7H and the year would not show marriage. So the recorded birth time is basically right.

Back to the natal Navamsa: the natal lagna sits 3 minutes from the Capricorn/Sagittarius Navamsa border, and Jupiter — who ran the Mahadasha, Antardasha and Pratyantardasha at marriage — reads better from Sagittarius. Because the year chart is this clear, the time stays and the lagna stays Capricorn. Jupiter is with the lagna lord Saturn in Navamsa and can give Saturn's results — a workable explanation, though not the best one. From Capricorn there are several candidates (Saturn as lagna lord, Jupiter with him, Moon as 7th lord, Mars), and Vimshottari picked one of them.

"Sometimes be satisfied with less than perfect justifications as long as overall you can make sense. It is more important to give reasonable explanations, though not perfect explanations, for all the events."

Narayana Dasha Cross-Check

  • Navamsa Narayana Dasha at marriage: Aquarius dasha, Aries antardasha
  • Aquarius = 7th from Upapada
  • From Capricorn lagna Aquarius is the 2nd → Argala on lagna → can give marriage
  • From Sagittarius lagna Aquarius has neither Argala nor drishti on lagna or 7H → very unlikely
  • Conclusion: Navamsa lagna is Capricorn; the birth time is not earlier by 1.5 minutes or more

D10 Career Analysis (Virgo Lagna)

The native is a hardware engineer (telecom; board, logic and VHDL design) who began as a software and systems analyst. D10 lagna is Virgo or Libra (1.5-minute margin); the reading below takes Virgo.

Artha Trikona analysis:

  • 10H = Gemini (Mercury rules) with Jupiter in it → an intelligent, analytical career, with a respected teacher-like side
  • 6L = Saturn and 10L = Mercury are together in the 2H (Libra) → the link between 2H, 6H and 10H falls in the 2nd house
  • Mercury = intelligence and analysis; Saturn = discipline and hard work — these are his resources

Artha Trikona strength: 2H is dominant → career defined by resources (intelligence + discipline), not by achievements (10H) or by obstacle-overcoming (6H)

Amsas:

  • Jupiter in 10H → Indra amsha → a leader in whatever field he shows
  • Mercury in 2H → Yama amsha → cold, disciplined, unemotional duty

"Yama does not destroy anything. He just discharges his duty coldly, unemotionally, impassionately. So Yama amsha shows careers where you have to just do your duty without any emotions — quality assurance, judiciary, police, prison system."

Reading the two together: Mercury in Yama amsha with Saturn makes him a hard-working, disciplined engineer rather than a famous one — had Mercury been in Indra amsha he would be a well-known engineer, in Kubera amsha a highly paid consultant. The authority shown by Jupiter in Indra amsha comes through a different, Jupiterian activity.

The yoga teacher parallel: asked about it, the native confirmed he has taught yoga for 18–20 years and runs children's camps. D10 shows ALL activities in society, not just the formal job — and this also confirms the D10 lagna.

7th House ≠ Business

The native asked how his 20 years of service show in the chart, given the thumb rule "6th house = service, 7th house = business". Counting planets in the two houses is only a thumb rule. Here the 6th lord Saturn joins the 10th lord Mercury in the 2H, in a trine from the 6H, so the 6th house of service is very strong without holding a planet.

"7th house is desire. Business is only one aspect of desire. If somebody has strong desires, he may not be happy and he may go into business, but that's only a crude approximation of the logic."

  • Moon in 7H → Ishana amsha → desire to spread religiousness in society
  • Jupiter (lord of 7H from Moon = 10H) in Indra amsha → that desire brings recognition/authority
  • Gajakesari Yoga (Moon + Jupiter in kendras) → lasting fame from religious/teaching work
  • The 7H is a Kama Trikona, but its lord goes into an Artha Trikona → the desire turns into actual work in society, not a business

"His career is characterized by those qualities — the resources that they possess — more than what he is actually doing."

Job Loss — October 2002

The native had been out of a job since October 2002. Jupiter Mahadasha had run since 1989 and carried his whole career, so the Mahadasha lord is not what has to be shown bad — the antardasha is.

Jupiter MD, Mars AD:

  • Mars = 3L (short breaks) + 8L (long breaks) from the Virgo D10 lagna → a functional malefic here
  • Mars aspects 10H (Jupiter in Gemini) by graha drishti → desire of 8L to break career
  • Mars in 2nd from AL → malefic in 2nd from AL = weak/starving image
  • Mars has Argala on A8 (Leo) + A8 lord Sun is with Mars → Mars linked to all "break" indicators
  • A8 = actual pink slip (tangible manifestation of 8H break) — not just a house, but the Arudha

"The actual loss of job, the actual pink slip that you get is a tangible thing. It is seen only from A8, the Arudha of the 8th house. That is the manifestation of that 8th house."

Jupiter as Badhakesh:

  • Lagna = dual sign → 7H = Badhakasthana (unexplained obstacles house)
  • Jupiter = 7L = Badhakesh → during Jupiter MD, inexplicable career problems are possible (no clear reason why)

Rahu AD — Getting a New Job

  • Rahu in 3H from lagna → determination (3H = initiative/drive) ✓
  • Rahu in AL (Arudha Lagna) → malefic (6L) = weak image ✗
  • Rahu owns A10 + A9 (fortune, actual career Arudha) with Rasi drishti on A5 (recognition) ✓
  • A10 = actual new job; A9 = fortune/old boss; A5 = someone liking you in interview
  • Rahu AD is likely to bring a new job — through an old boss or someone who liked his work before, and probably at a new company (Rahu in the 3H, a Kama Trikona, shows some risk taken)
  • The image stays so-so through Rahu AD even with a job, since Rahu in AL is a malefic
  • Pratyantardasha: Mercury is the 8th lord in the 12th from Rahu → not supportive. Venus = 9L in 9H from lagna and in a kendra from Rahu → supports him. Best window: Venus PD, Nov 2004 – Apr 2005

"Rahu owns A9 — can show an old boss. If an old boss, somebody that you worked for before, starts a new company or is associated with a new company, that can give the opportunity."

Moon AD (later in Jupiter MD) = better for image:

  • Moon in 5H from AL → recognition; 7H from lagna → strong desire
  • But Moon and Rahu are not friends → Moon cannot deliver its results in Rahu AD

Tithi Pravesha Prayer

  • The new Tithi Pravesha year (2004) starts Sept 6 by Indian time — the evening of Sept 5, about 9:10 PM, where the native lives
  • Hora Lord = Moon → pray to Moon, Parvati, Lalita, Durga
  • Lagna lord of TP = Mercury → pray to Vishnu, Rama (Mercury in Sun's sign)
  • Prayer timing: begin half an hour before the exact TP moment and end half an hour after
  • Outlook for that year: Hora Lord Moon is exalted in the 9H of the TP Rashi chart and 11th from AL → fortune and gains. In the TP D10 Moon and Jupiter (3L + 8L) sit together in lagna → a new job comes, but with continued anxiety and hard work

"Whenever a new year starts in your life, if you can pray to some gods during that time, it will be beneficial. It is like a new birth. So pray to gods shown by the Hora Lord and Lagna Lord."

Vargottama: Inner House Rule

A student found three planets in the same sign in Rashi and Navamsa and asked which one is Vargottama. All three are. Any planet in the same sign in both charts is Vargottama.

Counting from Rashi to Navamsa Sign

"You count from the Rashi sign of the planet to the Navamsa sign of the planet, and then that will give you a house, 1 to 12. That house will be the focus of that planet during that planet's dasha."

  • Vargottama = same sign in both → the count is 1 → the focus is the 1H: yourself, your intelligence, your health, your very existence
  • It is not as good as the planet being in lagna. It gives results relating to the 1st house
  • Such planets are important but not always good. One can make you very intelligent; it can make you dull too
  • This applies mainly to the Mahadasha

Example — Jupiter in the student's chart (Cancer lagna): Jupiter is in Gemini in Rashi (the 12H) and in Libra in Navamsa.

  • Count Gemini → Libra: Gemini (1), Cancer (2), Leo (3), Virgo (4), Libra (5)
  • Jupiter's results, good or bad, are 5th-house-centric: abilities, recognition, children
  • This does not put Jupiter in the 5H. The 5H is the focus during Jupiter's dasha

Sun and Saturn Vargottama in the Student's Chart

  • Sun (own sign, Leo) and Saturn (exalted, Libra) are both Vargottama → in their dashas the results are self-centric
  • Saturn Mahadasha starts the following year
  • From the Cancer lagna Saturn owns the 7H and 8H and sits in the 4H. PVNR calls him neutral — not a malefic, but an 8th lord, and the 8th is not a good house
  • An 8th lord giving his results to the self is not auspicious. But Saturn as 8th lord also shows yoga and sadhana
  • So there are two outcomes: a saintly, austere, yogi-like person — or sickness

"If you become more spiritual, more ascetic, or follow more austerities, then Saturn will not touch you. If you don't follow, he can give health problems."

"Things are not written in stone. There are good and bad aspects. If you promote the good aspect, the bad aspect will be basically suppressed."

PVNR's example: a man had a defect in one eye, given by Saturn. An astrologer in the family called it a blessing — Saturn had to mark the lagna and had done it this way — and said to leave it alone. He had it corrected by surgery, and many other problems followed.

That is the level of advice an astrologer can give. There are only certain levers to pull.

10th Lord in the 6th House of Dasamsa; Exalted or Debilitated

A student asked what the 10th lord in the 6th house of Dasamsa means.

  • The 10th lord is the karma you discharge in society and your achievements. In the 6H of obstacles → to achieve anything, many obstacles have to be overcome. If the planet is strong, they will be

Then: what if that planet is exalted or debilitated?

"Exalted planet is akin to a person who doesn't want to work hard, who wants to enjoy at a party. And debilitated planet is akin to somebody who is willing to work hard — actually who is forced to work hard."

  • Exalted planet in the 6H = an excited planet, not ready for hard work → not auspicious for working hard and overcoming obstacles
  • If the 10H itself is strong, that person may still achieve a lot because the 10th lord is exalted — but the achievements come without much effort or obstacle-overcoming
  • Debilitated planet in the 6H = conducive to working hard and overcoming obstacles
